My original trade was as a machinist. I did a lot better later in life than David Buick, although I ran his company for a while, too.
I was the last American to successfully put, and keep, his name on a car. I made a lot of money but I never forgot where I came from---in fact, I kept my old tools right there in my office until I retired.
There will probably never be another giant like me in the auto industry.
My posters adorned the walls of every teen In my time I was a fast machine My cheesegrater friend was also quite fast My "devilish" descendant replaced me at last What became of my once timeless looks? I ended up in replicar kit car books
That one must be a Lamborghini Countach; is it not? Although I was not a teen yet at the time, I did actually have a poster of one of these. I never put it up, though.

It really helps if you give your riddle a very descriptive title, (like I just did to this post) which will show up in bold in the header and which tells everyone else who is responding to which riddle. I think about 4 at once is close to the limit.
Also when someone gets it right, you should declare a winner so the others can drop out and do another one.
Oh we have talked about those All aluminum Buick V8s many times Craig.
Those engines were first used in 1961 in the Buick Special.
Rover Group in the UK bought the rights and used them in everything from Triumphs to Range Rovers and just about everything in between. It was the small block of the United Kingdom and finally went out of production in 2004 when it was put in the last 2004 Discoveries.
I was produced by an American company as the answer to another American vehicle that would go on to become and icon. I was produced fron 1961-80 and initially came in 3 configurations. I was available with a variety of engines, even a few that were produced by Nissan. I'm getting harder to find in good shape as the people who had me, really used me and wore me out.

One of the three guys who started UPS (In Seattle) was Charles Soderstrom who for many years owned the Ford Dealership where I grew up in San Pedro California.
I upset the purists with my unveiling But the numbers prove that I'm very well selling I have a cousin who's slower than me But offroad we're great, as great as can be Now in my family a brother was born That ticked off the purists cause he's a sedan!
that's right...Ford's mid-year switch to alternators gave us the mythical "1964 & /12" Mustang designation that you see sometimes in magazines---which of course does not actually exist. All first year Mustangs are 1965.
If no one guesses your riddle after a few unsuccessful attempts, I wouldn't let it go too long. If people stop guessing, that probably means they're frustrated and want to go on to the next one.
I'm the biggest there ever was in my clan I sold in small numbers, well I still am I even had an option to save The environment with how my powertrain behaves I have a cousin who's as big as me But our competition smokes us with glee They're bigger and nicer and faster than us They're more popular among the rapper crowds My name is one you can find on a map But you won't find me referenced in any rap

Some felt my unique engines were troublesome while others thought they were pretty good.
An overseas company picked up the rights to these engines years later and used them for many years in some very expensive vehicles they produced.
What am I?
For bonus points can you guess what the cheesegrater friend was?

But that is a good example of a great engine that gets a lot of bad press.
I've owned three RX-7's and they are fast, fantastic cars unless you don't follow a few rules.
1. NEVER, EVER get one overheated or it's toast immediatly.
2. These use some oil by design. Change it often and don't EVER let one run low on oil.
These are not for people who are careless or skimp.
Anyone else?
Bonus question...Year that they first appeared on Chevrolets? Be careful and tell us which Chevy model equipped in which way?
My looks were a huge departure from previous years of my make. I was a good seller but some people hated my looks as being over the top.
From the rear, some said I looked like an "Oriental Teahouse"
This really should be an easy one.
Not sure about your teahouse thing. Still trying to figure out your engine. :confuse:

I was going to say either Farrah Fawcett or Catherine Bach. :P
OK, a hint on my last one...
I'm a half century old now.
Also, Shifty recommends not to have too many riddles in play at the same time -- makes them too hard to follow.

It's amazing how long that little engine was around!
It's also amazing hiw that little 215 cubic inch engine could move a Land Rover!
I think if they remain unanswered too long they'll get lost in the shuffle.
Few people bought me
Engine said 1.8
With 6 cylinders I ate
From another land
People just didn't understand
It was produced through most of the 90s and had a funky 1.8 liter V6 that was very thirsty.

1962 Chevys with factory air conditioning came with alternators. By 1963 All GM cars had them.
Ford was last to switch from generators in 1965.
