    Chloe!
If you're sold on the two tone (Not trying to be mean, I just can't say that I am), $24,800 for that level of equipment is a very good deal, and I'm sure you'll be happy with the Camry, regardless of model designation, for a long time to come...

But still... there's just so few concrete details about the 2002 model.... Either way, best of luck!

    Have a great holiday/weekend,

    Hi There,
Is the the Lexus ,and Camry the same

body? Is there any new changes for the 2002

Camrys that would include a body change? I'd like

a 2002 Camry, and was wondering if there was any

new changes cause I like the way it is now... I

    have a 94 Camry ,and love it, I haven't had a bit

of trouble with it.... I heard that the Camrys

are now being made cheaply ,and I went to the

dealership to go look at the Camrys & Avalons, and

it doesn't seem to be made cheaply cause of the

outside mirrors, and inside mirrors being glued

on ,and doors being glued on,and it doesn't look

like anyting is glued on.. Looked at The Rav 4,

Four Runner,e.t.c,and all the mirrors seem to

look the same. I dont know much about cars, but

the mirrors looked fine to me... Thanks in

advance.. Happy Forth Of July weekend

    everybody...

sboers... I feel that is definitely the next Camry. It is the second time that I am seeing that same exact picture, which looks very similar to artist's renderings I have seen in a kinda cheesy 2002 model preview guide by Consumer Guides, as well as Vince Burlapp's controversial (shall we say?) website.

Ok, folks. I never said the 2002 Camry was the MARK II in Japan. What I said was that the interior of the Mark ii is almost identical to the interior of the 2002 Camry US production model. Also I said the cars' bodies look almost identical, which is not to say they are the same. The pictures on the www.mag-x.com site are authentic. Don't believe me. Wait till August 15th.

    Hi!

Well, I decided to go with the 2001 Camry Collector Edition, even if I still think it's pretty ridiculous to call it a "Collector Edition." When the 2002s come out, I'll probably wish I'd waited, but if I wait for the 2002s, then I'll wish I'd bought the 2001...

Thanks for everyone's help, and good luck with all of your cars!

    Regards,
    Chloe

There is a 50/50 chance that it may be the new

Camry, but doubt it... I just looked in the

Consumer Guide Cars 2001 Magazine ,and it says

nothing about remodeling the body of the Camrys..

I do think that if the body is gonna be changed

that it would of been in the magazine... I wish

that these people would stop placing pics on

websites and saying that that's the new 2002 Camry

,and let the Toyota website do it instead if

there's gonna be any body change or let the

Toyota company report it to the papers or what

have you. I find this very frustrating ,and I'm

sure everyone does that is car shopping...

Looking for a car to buy is a very big investment,

and I dont think it's nice of these people to be

placing pics of the supposedly new Camry.... In my

opinion the pics do look fake, and find it

frustrating that people just place pics on

websites ,and not think about other buyers being

frustrated and confused...I'm hoping that by next

month or late next month that I have my new car

whatever it may be.... I would really like another

Camry cause I've been happy with my 94 Camry.

The Camry has been the #1 car for so many

years, and their reliablity still stands great, and

I'd rather stick with what I know which is that

Camrys are great, and reliable ,and safe ,and

they're nice looking too... I didn't mean to

offend anybody ,and if I did ;then, I

appologize,it's just that I wish people would stop

placing photos of the Camry when a body change

hasn't been offically announced. Have a great

4th of July weekend everybody.... :)

The new Camry's can't compare with the old Camry's. Your 94 was better built. I had a 93 and 97 Camry. The 93 gave me no headaches compared to the sludged-up 97. Research some more before jumping into a new camry. And there is a new body change for the 2002 Camry. Everyone knows that. I knew that way back in January when I was shopping around for a new camry. The dealer said wait till the new Camry comes out in the Fall. He told me about the lights being different and so on. I myself opted for the Jetta. a pleasure to drive!
Good Luck on your future purchase.

of course the body is going to change in the 2002 camry -- forget what consumer reports says, in this instance... come on. this isn't calculus.... every 5 years, the camry body changes.

Any words on offering a navigation system on the new Camry or ES300?
  • edwardh5edwardh5 Member Posts: 130
I don't understand - the worst of both worlds - computers that need updates and have bugs, to be serviced by auto techs????????????

Do people really have trouble getting lost?
  • bdesaibdesai Member Posts: 24
Hey, I don't understand you. If you are going to come to a internet chat group about a particular car than you might expect people to talk about a new upcoming model and pictures of it. If you don't like it than you can depend on the dealer and magazines for all your "official" information. I do think the last link to the pictures of the new Camry are very believable. And yes, the camry changes to a new model every five years!!! This is not rocket science. Please try not to be offended so easily. Thats it.
  • s852s852 Member Posts: 1,051
Navigation is going to at least be in the ES300.
  • s852s852 Member Posts: 1,051
It is extremely unlikely that you won't have a choice to still get a leftover 2001 when complete details of the 2002s come out, so there is nothing to lose by waiting a little while longer.

If price is the most important thing, then get a 2001 since the 2002s are certainly not going to be cheaper to buy.

If I came off today nasty ;then, I appologize, I

didn't mean to sound like that.. It just seems to

me that the Camry was just remodeled is all,and I

can't believe that they're remodeling it again...

    I've decided on the Camry,and I guess if they're

gonna be remodeled ;then, I'll get a 2001 Camry

because I dont like the looks of the new one....

You know what? I did come off nasty, and I'm sorry

I'm just frustrated with this car shopping, and

looking forward to the day that I pruchase the car

because then the stress of looking for a car will

be over.. I'm presenting job hunting ,and with

car shopping on top of it I'm just stressed out..

    Sorry again for the attitude....

P.S. Wish the pics that people are showing are

on here show more of the car, what I mean by

that, is that I wish it showed the whole car not

just the front ,and back because how do people

know if they're gonna like the looks of it when

the 2002's come out in mid or late August or

September.. I live in Michigan, and I went to

Mount Clemens to look at the Toyota's and the

saleman said that they're gonna get their 2002's

    mid to late August..
    Thanks bdesai! :)

I had no idea that the Camry was gonna be remodeled at all... I didn't hear anything, but I guess that's because I wasn't into the swing of car shopping until now.... Thanks. :)

the last time the camry was remodeled was 1997-- you are sadly confused, sunshine... changing tailights by making them a bit wider in the middle is not remodeling-- it's a minor change to tell the 99's from the 2000's.... where you got the impression that the camry was just recently "remodeled" is beyond me-- but that's ok, you're all right.

I was just on the Deawoo Leganza site and since I didn't have any kind words to say about their product I was informed that the V-6 in Toyota Camry's has a history of head gasket problems. I own a 2001 Avalon and was wondering if any Camry owners have heard about or experienced any problems with the head gaskets in the V-6. Supposedly this was a problem in the 1998 and prior model Camry's according to our astute friend at the Daewoo Leganza site and according to him Hyundais are more relaible than Toyotas. He also mentioned that if I had done my homework I would have never purchased a Toyota. If any of you disagree with him as much as I do, please feel free to go on the Daewoo Leganza site and set him straight.

i dont think you came off nasty at all...bdesai on the other hand...

a lot of people were fed up with all the fake pix that were posted on hte maxima/freshalloy/maxima.org boards so i guess i might understand what ur saying better. people were waiting to see how the next gen maxima would turn out so they could go out and buy current gen maxima if they didnt like the new one. then our "buddy" (hehe jk) vinceburlapp got pix of the "new maxima" and a lot of people were ready to plunk down 20-30 large because they didnt like the styling of hte new maxima. luckily it was proven that the pix were fake so some people are still waiting. if it wasnt proven the people that waited probably would have bought the max and regretted the purchase (well maybe not...its a great car! hehe ; P )when the new model came out. ack sorry if this all was confusing!
  • 3pointstar3pointstar Member Posts: 45
Hyundais are more reliable than Toyotas?!! You are being fed a line of bull!!!

Hyundais have a bad quality image because they made a lot of junk for a lot of years. Most people have no confidence in Korean cars, that's why they have to give the farm away by offering 10 year powertrain warranties on their new cars.
  • sunshine60105sunshine60105 Member Posts: 129
    Hi Justin,
It is confusing because the people that

are set to get the Maxima or the Camry ,and then

all of a sudden they see these pics, and then they

have to rethink their decision because a car is a

huge purchase, and if your not happy with it once

you take it off the lot ;then, that's gonna be the

owners problem cause the car is theirs once they

drive it off the lot.... I dont want to black ball

myself from any message board forum, but I think

that I'm entitled to my opinion, and shouldn't be

attacked because what I call remodeling some else

doesn't... To me,the Camry is being remodeled...

If you look at the pic of the Camry in Edmunds

and click on the photo section, and print it,and

you go to one of the websites listed in here that

shows the 2002 Camry ;then, you'd see that it's

being remodeled... People are entitled to their

opinion on what they consider remodeling, and

that's my opnion... If you'd like to talk further

about Camrys ;then, please feel free to email at

    sunshine60105@hotmail.com,and perhaps we can help

each other with questions that we may have....

    Have a great Sunday..

    ral,
I didn't know that it was 1997 that they last

remodeled the Camry, but ;then, again I had lots

of stuff going on ,and that year is a blur to

    me...Thanks for the information.... :)

based on interior shot of the 2002 camry-- looks like the coinbox is massive! the current camry/solara coinbox is brutal-- very weak.

might as well wait for the 2002 based on the coinbox redesign !!
  • cliffy1cliffy1 Member Posts: 3,581
The only Toyota engine that ever had a head gasket problem was the 3.0 liter V6 in the trucks and 4Runners. Those were not the same engine as the 3 liter Camry engine and production of that model stopped in 95. The fact that both engines are 3.0 liters is probably the source of the confusion.
  • cliffy1cliffy1 Member Posts: 3,581
You're letting this bother you too much. Don't let it stress you out. There will be a totally re designed Camry in dealer's showrooms in mid August and they will be substantially the same as the pictures in x-mag. If you don't like the new style, get a 2001 now while selection is still good and dealers are motivated to move them.

One other note here: Please go easy on the "enter" key. When you are typing your response, you don't need to start a new line. The system adjusts it automatically. Your posts get very hard to read.

    I do think that I am gonna get a 2001,for the 2002
Camrys dont appeal to me. Tomorrow I'm gonna go the Toyota Dealerships, and see if I can find exactly what I want... I like the collectors edition, and the Gallery Edition.I agree with that there shouldn't be a problem making a deal with a saleman ,for they wall want to get rid of the 2001 Camrys..
Yes, your right that I shouldn't let this car shopping stress me out...I think a little of the stress is relieved cause I know that I want a Camry, and now the only thing is finding the color I want, and the goodies that I want in it...
    I'm not hard to please,so I'll compromise,and bend a little,and I'm sure I'll be happy with my 2001 Camry...
Also thank you for tellin me about the enter button, I had no idea that that made my entrys harder to read.....
    Thanks! Happy 4th...

Coming home from work thursday in a rain storm,I was rearended. My beautiful constellation blue Camry is a victim of a seventeen year old kid speeding in his friends 1996 Pathfinder. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
  • edwardh5edwardh5 Member Posts: 130
Both Toy dealers in Chas SC have been running big ads for a month or so:
Camry LE (and they list most of the options included) for $16,888 and say 45 in stock.
Is this some sort of regional sales event to clear out the 2001s?
  • cliffy1cliffy1 Member Posts: 3,581
That $16888 is "net of rebate" which means the real price is $17888. Then, I am sure they add freight ($455) and probably some sort of documentation fee. It also probably says something like "Starting at" which means that car is a demo and others with similar equipment will be more.

This is called a "screamer ad" and are only meant to drag you into the showroom. Once there, they try to work you for whatever they can above the ad price.

iontrap: that REALLY sucks. the damage wasnt extensive was it? ur right, at least no one was seriously injured. did u get an estimate on the repair cost?

sunshine: i hope my post didtn sound like i was attacking u. i was actually i was supporting ur side of the story because fake pix were causing confusion at the maxima boards too. good luck on ur camry purchase! ; )

Today I go to the Toyota Dealerships to see if I can find the color I want ,and e.t.c. I'm aiming for the collectors edition if I can find one,but if I can't then I'll settle for the Gallery Edition... I like the wood interor in there, and I like the two tone exteror, but If I can't find exactly what I want at this late date ;then, I'll bend and compromise because Camry is a great car,and I know that I'll be happy with it...
I wanted to get another Camry from the very beginning, and it sure looks like I'm going in that direction.I'm defintely getting a Camry, and I'm sure I'll get a deal on it too by that all the dealerships wanna get rid of the 2001's.
I'll let you know how it goes today.... :) Chow

Folks, I appreciate what some of you had to say to a poster who was clearly out of line, but your responses were removed also.

The best course of action is to just ignore inappropriate posts knowing that I will take care of it, or email me. You also could use the Online Support link on the left sidebar of the page to report the violation - but always email me as well, I may be able to get to it more quickly.

    Thanks.

I haven't had a chance to take it in for estimates. The kid hit me doing 40 mph, so there is quite a bit of cosmetic damage. At this point I don't know if there is any structural damage. The cop that was dispatched to the accident loved the color of my car. Since I've had the car, I think I've seen less than half a dozen Camry's with the constellation blue.
  • ravvie4meravvie4me Member Posts: 110
Toyota Camry V6 never had problems with the headgaskets. The headgasket problem referred to the 3.0 and early 3.4 liter V6 4Runners, Trucks (pre-tacoma) and early (95.5-97) Tacomas.
  • ludacrisludacris Member Posts: 185
well hope the damage isnt too bad. i found that pretty funny that the cop would say he liked the color of ur car after an accident like that...did he say it completely out of nowhere like "well the damage shouldnt be too bad, everyones fine. hey i like ur Camry's color!" lol. what color is constellation blue? is it that sorta sky blue color?
  • iontrapiontrap Member Posts: 139
He walked over to the car to look at the damage and to get the license # when he said "Man, what do you call that color? That's a sharp looking car." You could probably call it a light sky blue with a silver metallic flake. My wife did an excellent job of picking out the car.

Are Camry's still the #1 selling car? Or did Accord take over?
  • sunshine60105sunshine60105 Member Posts: 129
Yesterday I went to one the Toyota Dealerhips ,and test drive the Camry again cause I haven't test driven it since last summer I think. The Camry test drove great.. Very smooth...
    I defintely want another Camry..
Anyway I test drove it,and went back to the dealership, and asked the saleman if I could get it
the Collectors Edition with Two Tone Diamond White Pearl/Lunar Mist Metallic with oak interor ,or the Antique Sage Pearl/lunar Mist Metallic with sage interor, or either White ,or Cashmere Beige Metallic XLE with oak interor, and he said he'll see if he can locate one.
For the XLE it's listed as 26,216.00 on the sticker, and the consumer Guide Magazine says that the Retail is 24,095.00. Is 24,095.00 good price to present to the salesman? I was thinking 22,000.00,or 21,094.00. Any feedback would be appreciated..

Now the Collectors Edition's sticker price is
28,089.00.... The Collector Edition is a LE loaded. It says LE on the Camry, and then it says below it Collectors Edition.. I think 28,089.00 is way to much for a LE. The LE with Auto transmission retail is 23,185.00 in the consumer guide... is 24,000.00 a good price for the Collectors Edition which so happens to be a LE?
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks..

I read chloe6's post ,and she made out pretty good except I dont think I'd want to $800.00 more to the 24,000.00 she put out ... Can I present a better price for the collectors Edition? Again, thanks, any feedback will be appreciated..

Gonna go back to the dealership and present the salesman with an price, and if he doesn't except then I may just go to another dealership...There are plenty of White XLE's and plenty of two tone Collectors Edition I'm sure. :)
  • cliffy1cliffy1 Member Posts: 3,581
Your offers will depend on the dealer's inventory and the inventory of his competitors. The Collector's Edition only comes in one two tone shade of beige and silver. My dealership got flooded with them. Invoice with freight and TDA fee is somewhere in the $25500 range. If your dealership is like mine and need to be rid of them, they will probably get down to invoice or even slightly below. Then, you have the rebate (varies by region as well) so you aren't too far away from your goal of $24K.

The XLE is a different story. In my region, they are fairly scarce, especially with the 4 cylinder engine. You probably would not be able to get as good a deal on one if your area has a similar inventory to mine.

Again, good luck and keep us updated.
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
i would say cliffy is right-- not that he needs any props from me (jim rome lingo)---

you figure out invoice, then deduct around $1500 cause according to where i live there's a $700 rebate and an $800 dealer incentive.... varies by region they say... no restrictions.

so if a car has a $25,500 invoice-- less 1500 gets you to $24000 approx.

you'll love the camry but hate the coinbox.
  • vnguyen1vnguyen1 Member Posts: 9
If I wrere you, I use fax or phone to offer the price to dealers
  • sunshine60105sunshine60105 Member Posts: 129
    Cliffy,
Thanks for the feedback.I dont think that I am gonna get a Camry from this dealership that I went to because I asked him when I was at the dealership if there was a rebate, and he said"no"
,and then he called yesterday, and said that they're are nine Gallery series but not a 4 cylinder that I want ,and no white camrys except for the one at his dealership that is a 4 cylinder which I dont believe him cause when I went on the internet myself to see about rebates to see if he was truthful I found rebates, which started June 1, and end July 9th,and he failed to mention that, and told me that they're no rebates at this time. I told him that I found rebates ,and he said that it wasn't for this region which is Michigan ,and then he says in another breath that we can include a rebate in the deal, but I wont receive any money back... He tells me that today they're closed cause of the 4th of July holiday, and to give him a call Thursday if I want the car or not... I didn't put money down for him to hold this car,and I'm sure that if someone else can ,and was interested in the car that he'd sell it. This salesman is trying to push the sale, and I wont be pushed.. I'd rather purchase a 2001 Camry else where... This guy has the two most expensive Camrys out in front which is the Collectors Edition, and the XLE,and everybody knows what that means... I agree with what your saying cliffy, and I believe that's what chloe6's is a great deal for the collector's edition. Do you think the price for collectors Edition also stands for the Gallery?

I just dont think that I'm gonna get a Camry from this dealership because he doesn't want to budge.
He said that it would nice if someone paid the sticker price on both which I listed before , so I wont repeat myself... I do agree on 24k goal price, but dont believe that I am gonna get him to agree on that price, and really think that I'm gonna have to go else where.. I'm flexable with what two tone I want,or the color of the XLE,so I'll find someone else that will give me a good deal if this guy wont. I may not even call this guy back if I dont want the car, I didn't put money down, so there's no reason why I should call if I dont want the car. I may call him tomorrow and give him a price, and if he doesn't except ;then, there are plenty of dealerships that will come down on the price on a 2001.. I'll let you know what happens... :) Happy 4th Of July.

    Hi!
That sounds great... I'm sure I'll find a dealership that will give me a rebate if this salesman at the dealership that I went to Monday doesn't.
I'm gonna present my offer to him on the phone ,and if he doesn't take it ;then, I'll go else where. Thanks for your help. I'll let you guys know what happens either way... I love it in this message board forum because everybody is so nice and helpful...
2001 Camry has a coinbox? Where is it exactly? :) I'm sure I will love the 2001 Camry.Love the looks of it ,and the smooth drive.. Once all this is over with finding a 2001 Camry ,and I purchase it ;then, I'll be happy, and I'll still come in here and talk to all of you. :)
    Later Guys & Girls! :)
