what? why is a 19 year old getting a Camry for? Isn't 19 the age for Civics and Corollas?

blue is nice..hmm, i think silver is the best choice..but oh well..red is nice, but you didnt want that kind of red..how 'bout green?

    Hi.

The long black plastic piece(cover) located at the bottom of my Camry windshield on the exterior(between the windshield and the hood) is warping. Is this happening to others? In one spot on the Driver's side, it currently sticks out about 1/3 of an inch from the windshield. The car only has 5500 miles on it, and I think this is unacceptable. Would Toyota fix this or replace it if I complained? I am afraid it will get worse. While taking the car in for service last month, I noticed the same thing has happened on a used Toyota Camry model(97-99) they had for sale, but it was worse! I know this may be minor issue, but I think it shouldn't happen on a newer car this soon.

Thanks for your advice and help.

It shouldn't do that. Your car is still under warranty right? Go have them fix it.

MY 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY V6 HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. WAS THE BLACK THING SAPPOSE TO BE GLUED. MY HAS A SPACE TO. ANT IT SAPPOSE TO BE LIKE THAT?

Gold, tan, champagne, beige, or whatever they call it nowadays has got to be one of the most hideous colors for ANY car. And its REALLY UGLY with the ubiquitous "gold package." Yuck.

Silver, blue, red and green are best, IMHO. Silver Camry with tinted windows, black pearl emblem package, and a nice set of aftermarket rims **drooooooool**

Pardon me, I have to go clean my keyboard now!

You might not like those colors, but those calors are internatinally popular, and it's a matter of opinion. i hate dark colored cars, such as black, green, blue, etc. the only dark color i like in cars is red.
  • ravvie4meravvie4me Member Posts: 110
I don't like black, either. Or white for that matter (too much of a "rent-a-car" look).

best color is the gold, beige, tan, or whatever you call it... doesn';t show the dirt... very nice color.

dark blue i don't like-- plus white and black, which are for those folks who cant decide on a color.

While going over the equipment list at Toyota.com, I happened to notice the Camry XLE has a floor-mounted (or foot-activated) parking brake. Does anybody know why this is? Isn't the foot-activated parking brake more inconvienient? LE and SE come with the regular pull-up lever between the seats.

i think those lightblues that come with the accords.. but dark blue? not that its not a bad color, its just that the dirt shows too much.

i have a black suv, and its VERY dirty..

Thanks a lot for the feedback, and after a lot of thought, I've decided (hopefully I don't change my mind) that I'm going to get the Titanium Metallic (silver). I asked myself how often am I really going to wash my car, and the answer is, not often enough to keep a dark colored car looking sparkling, and that's why silver is probably my best bet.

I noticed that when I first got a one page brochure on the new Camry.

I think it has something to do with the "Luxury" emphasis of the XLE model. I personally don't care for it, but I could live with it.

The V6 Camry's have had foot mounted parking brakes since the 3rd generation Camry.

Hi all. I posted a question a while back about the value of a salvaged 97 camry xle. The car was involved in an accident and we expected the car to be declared as totaled and to receive a low value. However, the insurance company deemed the vehicle fixable and wrote out a check for around $9000. My question is...is it worth it to fix this car? or should we just junk the car?

Remember, this car has a salvaged title already. also, the damage done to the car was on the passenger side, near the front of the car (Thank God, it missed the passenger compartment..there was 5 people in the car...the maniac ran a red light and then ran off on foot after the accident). The car could not be started at the scene of the accident.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...we are leaning toward not fixing the car. any car dealers out there? what price would you give for a trade in of a 97 camry V6 xle with a salvage title?

oh and a last note...we bought the car for 10K and then put in about 6k worth of repairs...very bad decision to buy in the first place.
  • sbell4sbell4 Member Posts: 446
I can't put into words how much I feel you should run to the insurance company and get the check for 9k and then run to the bank and cash it.
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
:-) SO that you don't have to spend 6k on repairs !!
  • jrct9454jrct9454 Member Posts: 2,363
...take the $9000 check and use it as a downpayment on something else. Sell the '97 to a junker for parts salvage, and get some more that way...repairing this car is a waste of time and money.

So far I've not been able to "build my own Toyota" LE V6 in my area using the Web pages at Toyota.com.

The early production schedule (given in percentages) skipped over the LE V6's a few weeks ago. Has anyone seen an LE V6 in their area or has anyone been able to place an order for one? NOT XLE or SE please ... looking for LE V6 production information.

    Thanks

Oh yes, if they ever decide to make them it will be an LE V6, Super White, Oak interior, GI option.
  • ravvie4meravvie4me Member Posts: 110
The Toyota site has some little glitch in it that does not show the Camry V6 LE.
Rest assured, c0ke, there is an LE with the V6. I have seen one at a dealer before the official Camry introduction.

I have noticed this on the SE models where the word "Toyota" "Camry" "SE" and if so equipped "V6" were black, but the back Toyota symbol was left chrome. Was this a goof by Toyota? Is it an SE thing, or is it the same on LE and XLE?

We've decided to just take the check and scrap the car. I checked the trade in value for a 97 camry xle v6 and it was only like 10k something. and since this is salvaged im assuming we'll get only about 1/2 of that. we were actually surprised that the insurance company awarded us 9k.

Now the problem comes down to what car to buy...we're spendng 5500 on a used 96 civic dx (66k miles in good condition) and using the rest on a downpayment for another vehicle (<=20k total)...

any suggestions? need something w/ 4 doors (close to the size of the camry) yet w/ good performance...thinking about the sentra SER spec V...\

I just got a new camry 2002 LE, auto, silver, JBL.. I've got regular 4 cyl 2.4 157hp.
I'd like to 'upgrade' this car a little bit - install a TRD air filter and muffler.
Does anybody know about the difference in hp's after that? If you don't know for 02 - what's for 98-01 camry?
  • jcthom4jcthom4 Member Posts: 24
It is such a quiet/smooth ride I have to turn up the JBL just to keep my sanity :-)
I've had it since Monday and love it.
  • coolguyky7coolguyky7 Member Posts: 932
The Sentra is nowhere near the size of a Camry.

I think it was Mackabee who posted the production schedule mix for the Camry. That early mix didn't allow for LE's with the V6 engine. LE's with I4's, yes but V6's were scheduled only for some XLE's and I guess some SE's.

Rawie4me has seen one LE V6 ... could have been a special order I suppose but I'm wondering if that's going to be the only way to get the LE with a V6. Why do I want the V6 since the new I4 is so peppy? Good question ... but unless they've done something different in the 02's then the only way to get 4-wheel disk brakes w/ABS is on a V6.

Got any insider folks out there? ... Mackabee seems to be tied down in one of those groups ragging about the "inconsiderate salesfolks"(or whatever it's called). Surely there's someone reading this who knows if the Camry V6 production now includes the LE. Else I'm gonna have to track down my salesman and that usually means going to a dealer.

ahh~ i better stop coming here!

i am getting tempted to trade in MY camry!
  • fiery1fiery1 Member Posts: 31
Here in Southern California, we have all models.
LE stick and automatic, SE V6 and 4cyl in sticks and automatics, LE V6 and SE V6 and XLE as well. We have it all. Perhaps Mackabee is in a part of the country that limits their in-flow of certain models they perceive won't sell well.

    GI = 85%
    GI GU SR = 5%
    GI SR = 10%

all other desired equipment (if any is desired) can be installed by the port facility.

GI is the factory code for power driver seat, keyless and prem. AM/FM cass / CD with 6 JBL speakers

GU is the factory code for side curtain airbag, skid control, ABS with brake assist

SR is the code for factory sunroof/moonroof
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
According to Toyota's official press release dated August 23rd, ALL V6 models as well as XLE AND SE 4cylider vehicles have the 4 wheel disc brakes as standard. ABS is standard on ALL V6 models, and the XLE 4cylinder. It is an option on SE and LE 4cylinders.

I had a black Avalon. I really liked the color on that car. However, it is a NIGHTMARE to maintain and I will never buy a black car again.

Every single minor scratch shows 10 times more thant most other colors and the car looks dirty 1/2 hour after you washed it.

Trust me, stay away from black!

Hi, is the Camry XLE V6 $3000 better then the Camry XLE 4 Cylinder version? I believe they are the same car except for the engine difference. And, I have been reading that the 4 cylinder is VERY peppy. So, why spend the extra $3000 on a V6, when the $3000 could be used to trick out the car? Comments please:)

    hello there,

any advice or feedback on a good deal for a base model 2002 Camry LE with PW/PL, CD/Cassette, cruise,... no power seats, no sunroof, etc...

I was given the quote of 19.8K before all the 'fees'. is that a good deal?
  • edwardh5edwardh5 Member Posts: 130
One thing discussed 300 posts above was the tilt wheel. That was one thing we did not like in 3 series 99 BMWs that we test drove - no range of adjustmement - on my 94 Camry you can get the wheel down almost to your legs.

Also why is Toyota mailing these $15 gas vouchers if you go for a test drive in SE Toyota region - is that something new?
  • c0kec0ke Member Posts: 44
I 'll have to drop by my local dealers and see what's on the lots. Since the the I4's come in 4-wheel disk brakes (and a timing chain, no less) then perhaps I could get interested in the LE with either engine.

But thanks to all for responding. I'm not in a hurry to trade but I was hoping to work a deal in the next month or so. This new information gives me a couple more issues to consider.

Guess I'll brave a showroom long enough to pick up a brochure!
  • c0kec0ke Member Posts: 44
are standand on the V6 ... I4's will have rear drum according to Toyota specs.

Hate to followup my own posts but LE specs on Toyota's Web page:

"Brakes Power-assisted ventilated front disc/rear drum (power-assisted ventilated front, solid rear disc on V6 models) "

I am a die-hard Toyota fan but I cannot believe they didn't up the V6 power in the awesome looking new car. With a 255 horsepower Maxima out and a 240 horspower Altima on the way I do not understand why Toyota didn't bump up the power for this new car. Boggles my mind...

    I had a chance to test drive a 2002 Camry V-6.

It's a pretty good car, even if the exterior design was a bit conservative by 2002 standards. But the best thing about the Camry is its interior design--the ergonomics are quite good, and the quality of the interior materials is definitely comparable to the current-generation Honda Accord, the benchmark for use of quality interior materials.

The 1994 seats had the two nice wheels to adjust the bottom cushion.

Edmunds and consumer reports said the 97 up seats were not comfortable for people over 180 ponds -

what are the new seats like?
  • cliffy1cliffy1 Member Posts: 3,581
Toyota corrected the mistake of '97 with the seats. I think they are even better (by a long shot) than the '96.

We have LE V6's scheduled to arrive this week
  • fiery1fiery1 Member Posts: 31
The lion's share of the V6 cars we got are all SE's and XLE's with lots of package configurations, but that is sorta how Toyota does things. They watch travel-rate (how long cars sit from being on ground to selling) and see what sells fastest. The cars that seem scarce here in Southern California are the LE 4cylinder cars.

I have really been taken by surprise by the comfort and quality in the SE V6 models. The ones with the NAV system, leather/sunroof etc (packages with codes "GT HD GU CF") are one of the finest cars I have driven with Toyota. MSRP is a little over $30,000 but whatta car! The seats are top quality for comfort and leather, and the handling is very good as well. Colors are all a better blend this time around, and while the exterioe of the average new Camry seems unremarkable, don't let it fool you. Drive the V6 SE (or even the 4 cyl SE) and you will be pleasantly surprised.

I just returned from the dealership, where I saw the new Camry XLE V6. This is terrible what I saw. I mean the style. The car looks like a hippopotamus, and it is very low to the ground.

The dealer told me the Camry 2002 V6 has the same engine, transmission (automatic), and suspension, as a Camry 2000 V6. I think the style of Camry 2000/2001 was much better.
  • har1bushhar1bush Member Posts: 207
I guess different strokes for different folks.... But I think that most people in here have already agreed that the new Camry looks and drives a whole lot better than the last gen Camry. In my opinion, the last gen Camry had to be one of the dullest looking cars ever! The front looked OK, but the rear just ruined it, as well as the roundish contour of its sides. As for the new Camry, I think it looks very much like the '01 ES300s with a bit more of a flair to its headlights, but once again, the rear looks a bit weird (esp. with the spoiler on the SE). It looks like an extended rear of the Prius.

A while back I test drove the LE, and it was one of the first ones off the truck. I was basically wondering if anyone has driven the SE? The LE has suspension like a boat and I was hoping the SE would be a little sportier. Toyota is not the best at creating sporty suspension and handling, but they can make a really quality car!
Personally, I feel the SE 4-banger is fast enough to meet all my needs. I don't race, not too many hills around here, and its price will be right soon enough.
Also, I did notice a couple of build quality issues when I first saw them. I hope these are isolated events and not a sign of worse things. Overall, it's a nice-looking car that won't offend anyone and won't make you poor with gas, insurance, and repairs.
  • fiery1fiery1 Member Posts: 31
Drive the SE 4cyl.. it's a great car! Handles wonderfully. Remember that it isn't a Porsche -- it's a Camry and the target Toyota tries to hit with this car is more cross-massed. Meaning, it isn't a "performance" car per se. It's a sedan that will perform when it needs to.
  • yankeryanker Member Posts: 156
Since wev own both a 96 and a 97 I'd like to make a comparison. The 96n has the better shape and twp adkjustments. The 97 has a flat cheap feel to it like a poor Nissan Maxima and only one adjustment.

I testdrove the 2002 Camry with a Toyota dealer in town that I am very pleased with. He knows a great deal about the car, and has been honest in answering questions (unlike 2 other dealers I also visited). I would like a red V6 XLE with leather, but without a sunroof (would like the extra headroom in the car). The dealer says I can special order it if I put down a deposit. I am concerned that I will pay a deposit and have no control over when the car arrives. Or perhaps when it arrives, the car could be sold to someone else who might see it on the lot and pay a higher price than I negotiated. Has anyone special-ordered from Toyota before? My boyfriend special-ordered from BMW, and when he put his deposit down, the company immediately gave him the production # for his car, so he could track when it was being made, shipped, etc. Does Toyota have a similar plan for its customers? Thanks!
  • sbell4sbell4 Member Posts: 446
Do you want the leather trim package, power driver and passenger seat, AM/FM/Cassette/CD with 6 disc in dash changer and 6 speakers and just not the sunroof? All of the above plus the sunroof is in the GVAT (package #8). The dealer would have to order the car from the factory in Kentucky and have them not add that package if none of the above equipment is desired and that process could take up to 60-75 days depending on production. If even some of the above equipment is desired and not the sunroof I have a solution to that problem also. Let us know what equipment you want that is in addition to factory standard equipment and I will be happy to give you the information that you need. You are welcome to contact me and I would be happy to tell you what to expect with a special order in the southeast. It isn't complicated and you can get exactly what you want if the dealer stays on top of your situation for you. If the dealer doesn't your special order vehcile can be turned down by the dealer by mistake and end up being wholesaled to another dealer.
