My dealer told me the brake rotors were worn out and he machined them. But the problem persists. Anyone else have similar problems?
Thx.
There's a TSB (technical service bulletin) about "brake judder", the very thing you experienced, for which the dealer should either resurface or replace the brake rotors under warranty. It apparently was caused by overtorquing the rotors at the factory, causing warping of the rotors.
It was posted on the Nissan Maxima board here on May 4, 2001, in post number 1986 (I have it bookmarked, that's why I was able to find it!). You may have to be firm and fight them, but get the dealer to replace the rotors under warranty, since the problem persists after they "turned" them.
I had mine installed in Metro Infiniti. So, if you go there, the service advisor will know what are you referring to. It is because I am the first one to complain this problem to them. So, the dealer records should have all the parts info. you need.
They also dechromed the inside door handles. They have now a brushed titanium finish. I think the chrome looked nicer but I'm sure the designers believe the titanium finish is more "sporty". Back middle seat now has a headrest.
I did think that the wood tone, that was used around the ashtray in the 00 and 01, gave that area a more finished look than in the 02. This area now has a less complete look, like it was forgotten.
Naturally, these are subjective observations. I'll be interested to read what you all think.
Also, does Infiniti offer free maintenance for the warranty period like most of other luxury brands do now ?
Thanks.
The i30 was nice but seemed a bit to soft and had a lot of roll to it. It also lacked a lot of the features I was looking for... I was very impressed with the i30T. It was a very firm and cornered very well. Interior was nice (drove a blk/blk) and exterior looked sporty as well. Overall I was pleased. The i35 had significantly more power! Wow, I was impressed... really felt good; however, I wouldn't recommend buying without the sport package - a must with that much power.
Acura TL was also a very nice drive. I was very comfortable and appreciated not having to worry about whether or not it had all the options the i30T did... They come loaded from the factory.
The TL-S had firmer seats and nice displays. Power was also very noticable.
This will be a tough decision. I think I could be satisfied with the i30T but they will really have to come done quite a bit even from invoice to get my attention. Otherwise I might be trying to get TMV price on a TL-S.
Comments are welcome to help me with my impending decision.
No. I believe only German brands(BMW, Audi, MB, etc) are offering free maintenance for the first 4 years of ownership. The Japanese brands (Acura, Infiniti, and Lexus) are not. You need to pay for your own.
Good Luck.
The I30t is selling $1000 below invoice in S. Cal. I bought mine back in May. I think it is pretty good deal. I test drove the I35, too. The engine is amazing. Nissan did a very good job on this machine. Since the I35 only have the luxury model, you really need to get the sport package to achieve same driving impression as the I30t. Personally, I don't like the wheels on the sport package. The color is too dull.
TL-S had been my daily commute car. It is quick. But the interior finish is no match to the Infiniti. And the sound system in the TL-S is no match to the Infiniti, too. The 200 watt BOSE in the I30t is awesome.
Has anyone ever had this kind of experience? I thought it might be something like a clogged or fouled oxygen sensor, or something like that.
Can it be simply reset? Thanks,
maxima light, i had a 96 maxima and the engine lt came on once or twice a yr, knowing enough about cars to know nothing was really wrong with it, took my time making it to the dealer, by the time i would go for my next service the light would have already gone out, finally sold it with 130k mi on it, nothing wrong with it, about half way thru the ad run, hot day middle of aug, i'm parked with engine runnin for like 30 min waitin for this guy to come out of the building and drive it, of course engine light comes on, anyway took it to dealer, said they replaced the o2 sensor, couple hundred bucks problem gone (between you and me prob a reset somehwere somehow, but i paid the 200 to get it over with and sell my max so I could get the above)

Also, the dealership I'm working with said that Infiniti is running a special program that offers $1000 to anyone who has owned an Infiniti (new or used) to go towards a new i30/i30T.
Neg. your best deal, then if you've owned an Infiniti before, pull that out when you've got the best price you can get. The $1000 doesn't affect the dealership!
Thanks for your help, karz.
Anyway, I'll try to help if I can. My feeling was, I took, the invoice price for the car they had on the lot, that I wanted to buy, subtracted the $1500 dealer cash, subtracted the $1000 infiniti loyalty (even though technically I owned a Max previously, and according to some should not have qualified for it), and then took another 500 off just for the hell of it, figuring I don't know everything the dealer knew, and maybe they have some other money I don't know about, but at the same time, I couldn't really see bidding any lower than I was already, although you could try.
So dlr was throwing numbers at me, 1,000 below inv., 1200 below, 1500 below, etc. I had not yet disclosed any of my thoughts at this point. Basically, this was after I had been back to look at the car for the third time over a couple week period in my comparisons, and said I had to go, but they wanted to see if we could agree on some numbers. At this point I went to my car to get my info, after they were already 1500 below. I pointed out what the invoice was, and said, I appreciate your offer, but in my circumstance a car is a business expense, and that's not where I need to be to do something today. dlr SM: so what are you thinking, I said, well your salesperson said I would qualify for the loyalty, which is 1,000, and I know there's at least 1500 dlr cash in the car, and I don't know everything about your business, there may be a few hundred in expenses, there may be a few hundered in additional money such as holdback, so if I add the 1000, the 1500, and an additional 500 for misc, subtract that from the invoice, that left me at 27k, which is what i had in the back of my mind i would do the car for today. If not, I will have to think about it some more.
GSM left for a few minutes, while the salesperson complimented me on my professionalism and calm behaviour, and said at this point I just get a 'flat' when it's this low, I hope they give it to you. GSM came back and said 'GM said write him up'. To be honest I was a little surprised, I thought they'd try something else, but it was actually quite a pleasant experience, although as I said they TRIED to jack me on the interest
Sorry for the long post, but hope it helps, I don't know what else to tell you, except layout how the deal worked for me. For me I think the key was a motivated seller, and they sensed I was serious and would not move off my set price, but I WOULD do the deal as described if they agreed. I'm just a novice this time around, good luck to you.

Karz10: Congrats on the new purchase and the great deal. Where and which dealer did you buy her from? Your deal was good enough to possible warrant a long drive or special delivery.
anyway, is the cd designed to work in only one particular car?
matt-I forget which model you have, and I don't have Nav in my '01 I30t, but for what it's worth, when I went to drive the '02 I35, asked salesman to show me the Nav,
he said 'ok, let me go get a disc, we don't keep them in the cars, coz they get stolen'....
comes back with a box that has two cd's in it, he says 'yeah I keep a couple in my desk so I have one to show when I need to, one time someone got in there when it wasn't locked, took the discs but put the jackets back in the box, so I thought I still had them, until I went to show them.'
This would lead me to believe that this has been something that he has done for awhile, and indicates there's probably not any connection between a specific car/nav-unit
I think tgif has Nav, maybe he'll check in soon...

Hope this answers your question
STEVE
my problem was that when i put in the cd, i would get a 'cdrom version is incorrect'. none of the local dealers knew what the problem was, they all told me different things.
eventually what happened was that the disc was an updated version and the program (operating system, if you will call it that) in the navi system itself needed to be upgraded to be able to use the new version. so all the dealer had to do was to pop in the programming disc, reprogram the navi, then my cdrom worked fine. hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.
also, i noticed that when the driver's window is about halfway down, it makes a clicking noise over bumps.. anyone else have that problem?
MSRP: 33,710
Invoice: 30,300
My price: 28,500 (out the door!)
Thanks again for all your help. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

Check out the I35 board. Someone had took a delivery for the I35 already.
A guy I officiated basketball with this past Sunday showed me his I35 (silver with black interior). Nice car! According to him, this is the 1st one delivered with navi on the east coast (we are in nothern VA area). He traded in a RX-300 and got a good deal -- can't remember the exact $$$s but he got a pretty good trade-in on his RX300 (he paid cash for the RX). I think it was something like $27,500 trade-in and he put $5,000 with it???? Anyway, he knew I had been interested in a 2000 I-30 (wife ended up buying an ES-300 -- her car), and he just wanted to "rub it in".
I've been looking at the I30's for quite a while, waiting for a good deal. Now that the deals are sweet, I'm torn between the I30 and I35. Sounds like you got a great deal on your I30. Good luck with it.
wildeman-good luck, glad to hear the light went out, again may be an o2 sensor down the road, in the mean time don't fill your gas with the engine running, and make sure you close the cap tight a couple clicks when done filling up, those are a couple things I hear that can cause the light to go on...can't help you on the choice between the i35 and the i30 but sure either would be great
update: so far so good, got 1,000 miles on my blk/blk i30t w/ sport pkg, nothing but compliments so far from others, and i am enjoying the ride, comfort and handling, just can't wait to be a little more liberal on the gas pedal
i don't think i'm getting the best gas mileage yet, only about 300 mi on a tankm but that's mostly city driving last few weeks
met the people that bought my maxima today as my title finally arrived from the CA finance co., got to see my max again to say goodbye, and climb back into my new ride...love the sunshade, the rims/tires, comfortable sporty ride, and above all the less expensive price tag....
i mention the less expensive price tag which equates to a lower pmt because i, and hundreds of others, got laid off Tuesday, so at least $100 or so less per month than other cars i was considering since i got the i30t for 27k, and i got a nice ride to go on interviews with
i'll check in from time to time, have fun!!
karz
I put exaclty 16 gallons in after about 340 mi, if my math serves me, that's about 21.25 mpg. So far seems a little less than my Maxima, I would get that on mostly city driving w/ 130k mi. Guess I'll try to keep an eye on it, make sure I keep track of it correctly, see if any improvement...
Got 1500 mi on the I30t so far, all is well.
