That comparo was flawed. The I30 is not a sports sedan, regardless of what Infiniti says. Therefore, it will not stack up well against the 325is and A4s and IS300s of the world in that regard. But it offers a great ride, smooth and strong engine and a great overall package. It's not a sports sedan, but it does what it's supposed to do quite well.

I purchased my I30t with the same exact options back in May. I paid a few hundred less than that then. You should be able to do much better than that now. There was only a $1000 incentive then. Now I've read there is a $1500 this month on the I30's.
  • tgif888tgif888 Member Posts: 351
While you are going to purchase the I30t, ask your dealer to install the fuel line protector to complete the deal.
  • vtgtvtgt Member Posts: 30
The dealer tries to rip you off badly. I bought I30L last December with everything but NAV (Sunroof, Sun shade, Traction Control, 6-disc CD changer, splash guards) for 28K without any incentive. Now with $1500 incentive and it is August, you should have a much better deal than me. If you need more info, let me know.

Thanks for the message. Two glass repair shops told me that it cannot be repaired. As you have mentioned in your reply, I will talk to the insurance co and insist on Infiniti part only.

    Thanks for your help

Thanks for the reply. I notice your from jersey, can I ask you where you bought your I30 from? I asked the salesman for his best price and that is what he quoted me. I didn't try to haggle the price yet. Wanted to see just how good (or bad) his price was. Appreciate your help.

    Hi All,
I'm been offered 28715 for I30L w/Traction and heated seats. What do you all think? It seems like I should be able to get a better deal based on what I've read. Please advise

    Hi,
I just wanted to reply to tibby's comment regarding the ranking of Infiniti's model. Everything you mention is correct!. I30's built and overall quality is one of the best in it's class. The Acura TL's selling point is the cheaper price and faster car. Yes, the TL is cheaper because the overall quality is very marginal...do people buy luxury cars to race on the highway...is there an autobahn nearby??? The direct competition is the lexus es300. This is a fine automobile but it's 3-5k more expensive for basically the same car. Don't believe all the rankings, Infiniti has built a top notch car with all the luxury amenities and the service is the best in the business!

Any update on your fuel line protector?
  • vtgtvtgt Member Posts: 30
As I mentioned earlier, I bought my '01 I30L with everything but NAV for 28K on last December (Infiniti didn't have any incentive by that time). I bought my car at Ray Catena in Edision from Steve Brening. Good luck.

    Thank you for the information.
  • cpa4ucpa4u Member Posts: 136
I have the parts, but haven't gotten them put on yet. The local Nissan dealer didn't seem too receptive to putting them on for me. Of course, as I've said earlier, my Infiniti dealer has all but refused to put them on. So..........I'll have to find someone else to do it I guess.
  • tgif888tgif888 Member Posts: 351
Your price is kind of high. It is only $35 below invoice. When I bought my I30t back in May. I bought in $500 below invoice plus the dealer throw in the wood kit for free.

Carsdirect.com is selling the I30 $1000 below invoice with S. Cal zip code. You might want to check out that site.

    Good Luck.

Your dealer is a pain in the ***. This is no customer service. Call to Infiniti and complains again this dealer.
  • cpa4ucpa4u Member Posts: 136
Yes, I agree about my dealer. I also call another dealer about an hour and half away, same story. They did not want to put the part on either. I have called Infiniti about my dealer before due to how they handled the payoff on my trade-in and the registration of my new car. The customer service rep just said "I'll note that in a file". I also requested they send me a customer survey to fill out. That was 4 weeks ago and I still haven't received it. I'm calling tomorrow again.
  • BobL242BobL242 Member Posts: 29
Did you have to haggle much to get that price? Catena's only about 35 miles from me. Maybe I'll ride down there and check them out. Thanks for the help.
  • vtgtvtgt Member Posts: 30
I didn't haggle much to get that price. I offered them $27,500 and I walked out. They called me next day and tried to negotiate. I offered them 28K via the phone and they accepted it. If I have to buy my car today, I would offer them 26 - 27K with no incentive (with incentive from Infiniti, I would offer them 25 - 26K). You can call my saleman and talk to him about your offer before you come in. If you buy I30, ask them to install the fuel line protector. Good luck.
  • tgif888tgif888 Member Posts: 351
    That's bad.

After the installation, my sale calls me and ask me how the installation go.

I believe it really had to with the dealer. Did your sales help you on this issue?
  • cpa4ucpa4u Member Posts: 136
I got no help what-so-ever from my dealership (salesman, service manager, parts manager) or from Infiniti Customer Support. I even tried another Infiniti dealer and no luck. Those are the only 2 dealers within 3 hours of me. So, I just ordered the parts from www.nissanparts.cc instead. I'm still trying to find someone to install it though.
  • fencefence Member Posts: 15
I just bought I30L w/Traction and heated seats for $28,465. I think I could have gotten a better deal but I'm happy with my purchase.

I'm not sure if anyone cares but here's the decision process that I went through.

First, I looked at fell in love with the Acura TL-s (power primarly.) Then, I heard that the '02 Maxima would have the power and some additional features. Since I currently have a Maxima I decided to wait until I could test drive it. While waiting for the '02 Maxima to come in, I decided to look at '01 Maxima since I would probably get great deal. Once I looked at it, I decided against it since I really wanted some of the Luxary features (Seat memory, etc.) Then one day I just decided to go check out the I30L. It had all of the features I was looking for except the HP including (Seat memory, better stereo then TL-s, fold down seats, rear shade etc.) So now I was debating between '02 Maxima and '01 I30L. When I drove the Maxima GLE, I liked the power but it was a little rougher ride then what I thought it would be and it didn;t have all of the luxary features of the I30L. When I attemted to deal with the Maxima dealer, I said make the price for a fully loaded '02 GLE 27,500 and I'll buy it. (The amenities that the Infiniti offers was worth about $1000 to me.) They didn't want to do it. They basically said, it's brand new listing at about $30,500 they can't go that low. So I said by and went and bought the I30L.

Based on the hours of reading that I did in making my decision, here's what I found about all the cars I was evaluating:

Lexus ES-300 --- Very Good Car, a more expensive then I30L

Acura TL-s -- Good power, not as refined as it should be. People complain about creeky noice, brake rotors/pad may have some issues, stero stinks (5 speakers vs 7 in I30/max.) but it's a great car to drive. We personally didn;t like it that it didn't have folddown seats, the car clock was by the speedometer, so a passenger couldn't see it, the sunroof controls are of the left side of the driver so the passenger couldn't open it plus I don't think it was one touch. I have heard both positive/negative things about the environment controls. It also did not have a rear shade. We really liked the dealership/sales man experience.

BMW 3-series/Mercedes C -- didn't look at it.. too expenside and too small

Toyota Camery/avalon -- Just don't care for Toyota

Honda Accord -- too small...too many

Infiniti I30L -- Good overall car.. To me it's a souped up Maxima... I know it has more features/functions but essentially it's the '02 Maxima minus the 12% extra power but with more luxary ammenities (Compass, read shade, more sound proofing, slightly bigger) plus the higher level customer service. The customer services is very important to me. It has sufficiant power, and you can get a pretty good deal since the I35 will be coming soon. To us the only thing its missing from a TL-S is the power (I know TL-S has double wishbone suspension versus Multilink, but it wasn' that important to us.) It had the features we needed -- Fold down seats, customer services, better placement for the clock and sunroof controls, better stereo, better price (infiniti dealships are willing to deal), good ride. Some people have had concerns about noise at higher the 75 MPH. Also, people have concerns about the Goodyear RS-A tires.

I hope this long dissertation helps someone... I did hours/days of research and finally my wife said buy a D++n car or I'm going to put a chair through that computer :-)

Now some questions for all my CO-I30L owners :->

    1) My Maxima's remote keyless opens the front windows when I hold down the unlock button, does anyone know why they got rid of that feature?

    2) What's the best way to break in the car and for how long should I break it in (the book says 1000 miles...)

    3) what are some Mods I should make and where should I get the parts from...

    4) Here's a really dumb question, what is the purpose of the Fuel line protector.... I know I should know the answer to this -- I'm a man, and I know I'm letter my gender down by asking :-)

    Congratulation on your purchase.

I own an Acura TL-S and I30t. The I30t sure is a pleasure to drive. It is quiet and the sound system rocks. The reason I got the TL-S is because of the HP.

    First answer your question:

1.) The feature had been deleted.

2.) Follow the manual. 1000 miles.

3.) The mod-I am not sure about that one.

4.) The fuel line protectot is used to locate at the left rear wheel. It is available in 2000 model and wan't on the 2001 model. It is a cover to protect the fuel line. Some people is having trouble to have the dealer installed. Since, you just buy your car, have your salesman do it for free.

Congrats on your new I30t! I have been driving my '01 Maxima GLE for 8800 miles, and find it to be just wonderful (and essentially the same car as the I30). The Nissan dealer I approached was willing to install the fuel line protector as a warrantee item, left off my car, but I understand the Infinity dealers aren't being that cooperative about it.

Concerning modifications: there are two which will make the suspension astonishingly better: a FSTB (Front Stabilizer Tower Bar) and RSB (Rear Sway Bar). You can find out everything you need to know about them at www.maxima.org. Several companies make them, but the FSTB from Courtesy Nissan (about $90) and from Stillen (about $180) are comparable in performance, differing in appearance (I think Stillen wins on style points, so it's the one I have). The best RSB appears to be from Stillen (list $264, but you should be able to find it for less).

I did a little bit research and I confused about the parts. Here is the list of parts that I collected:
    76749-40U00 Proctector 5.43ea
    17290-2Y000 Proctector 9.94 ea
    01553-09321 Clip .53 ea

    63848-35f00 2.34 ea clip
    768820m000 2.83 ea clip

Can you tell me the quatity of these parts? Thanks
  • tgif888tgif888 Member Posts: 351
    This is what you need:

    1.) Protector-Filler Tub-17290-2Y000
    2.) Protector-Rear Wheel-76749-40U00
    3.) Clip-01553-09321

Items 1 and 2, you only need 1/ea. Item 3 you need 6 of those.

I have had my I30t for about 9 months now. Ever since I took delivery I have noticed a vibration in the steering wheel and seat at 40 MPH and above. It is not extremely bad but definitely noticeable. The dealership has re-balanced and rotated the tires twice and still the same problem. Now I am being told that I am just "feeling" the road. That this is normal for 17" low profile tires. I don't buy it. Is anyone else having the same problem?
  • jfb7jfb7 Member Posts: 11
I am a self-confessed "car junkie" who really loves cars - too much I must admit! Anyway, the reason I'm here is because of a startling discovery I just made: For about the same price of my fully loaded Galant LS, I could be driving a gently used I30t. It was a rude awakening to be sure, but one that got me thinking: "Why am I driving a Galant?" With that in mind, I scoped out the local Infiniti dealership and saw a beautiful 2000 t with all the options in a beautiful shade of light beige with beige leather. OMIGOD! I almost hyperventilated! So I'm hoping that some of you wonderful people will help me sift through the many thoughts that are going through my mind. I have a feeling that this dealership (Prestige in Englewood, NJ) will be looking for about $27K. I am waiting to hear back from the dealership concerning their asking price as well as the mileage. Since the car is nearly 2 years old, what is your idea of a fair price? Also, I know that the I30 is soon to become the I35, so does that mean that it might cause a problem for the dealers to deplete the "old" models at year end once the more powerful one arrives? (Bad for them, good for me?)Although I haven't test driven the car yet, I think the t in its current form is an excellent car. Also, I was wondering about the car's reliability, the service, the traction control system on the t (is it low speed or all-speed?), driving impressions concerning quietness, comfort, handling, brakes, performance (I do mostly highway driving), does it really give you the feeling that you're driving a true luxury car ( it certainly looks like one!!), etc. I really appreciate this website - it's great! And thanks for reading my post and for any feedback you can offer. John
  • tgif888tgif888 Member Posts: 351
Hmm, did you have the dealer change the tires? Sometimes the tires are causing this problem.

jfb7-To answer your question, first need to find out how much the dealer is charging. It is because right now you can buy a new 2001 I30l for around the same price that you mention (27k). It is because Infinit is offering $1500 rebate on the I30 now. The build qualtiy is very solid in the I30t. I own a 2001 I30t. The layout and the equipment that Infiniti use is top class. It is very quiet compare to my TL-S. =) So, it is a good buy if the dealer is asking the right price.

    Hope this help.

    Hi All,
I just bought a '01 I30L. As I was looking at the owners manual, based on the description of when to use Schedule 1 or 2 it seems I should be following Schedule 2, but the dealer's service pricelist brochure talks only about schedule 1 only. Does anyone have any thoughts as to which should be followed. I'm assuming the dealer would want me to follow schedule 1 since that means more money for them, but will following schedule 1 make my car go further. Also, should I use synthetic or not?

    --- tia
  • tgif888tgif888 Member Posts: 351
When I bought my I30t, my salesperson asked me how my driving habit is and how far I commute. After he knew all that, he recommended me to follow the Schedule 2, which is the one doing the first oil change at 7500 miles or 6 months. I am in L.A. so it really depends on your driving habit.

I believe the usr of synthetic oil is not good for the brand new engine. I might be wrong?
  • exlegendexlegend Member Posts: 22
This will open up the ongoing emotional debate about using synthetic versus conventional motor oil, but I'm a huge believer in synthetics, especially Mobil 1. I've used synthetics in all of my cars since 1978 and have enjoyed very satisfying results (230,000+ miles on Toyotas and Acuras). Yeah, I know you'll shortly hear from several people who've changed their oil with Pennzoil, Castrol, etc., every 3,000 miles and have reached 200,000 miles as well. Or they'll say it was the car maker quality that got me there (partially true).

It's YOUR choice as to how you want to spend your money and maintain your ride, no one else's. I changed my '01 I30L oil at 1,000 miles, then at 3,000 miles (Pennzoil both times). Then at 5,000 miles, when I believed the engine was broken in and the rings had seated on the pistons, I switched to Mobil 1 5W30. I can't seen using a synthetic oil if the filter you install is low quality. I'll change the oil every six months, regardless of miles (ususally 6,000-8,500), and use either a Mobil 1 filter or an Amsoil or Hastings oil filter.

Here in the Midwest where the wind chill in the winter can easily see 20 degrees below zero, I like the faster flow of the synthetic oil and quicker oil pressure and lubrication.

Let your engine break-in before you switch. I'd recommend at least 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
(Though I wonder about the "Vettes that show up new from the factory with Mobil 1 synthetic already in the crankcase).

I am also in the market for an I30L. I am eligible for infiniti's VPP plan through my company. I am getting a quote for 27400 with everything except the NAVI for an I30L. Since the new model is going to be out soon, I think, I can get a better deal. please let me know if I am off base.

Also, I see that infiniti provides an option for the I30 to have the HID lights as an option. but none of the dealers seems to have an I30L with this option. If I buy a car without HID lights, is it possible to change the lights later, and how easy will it be?
  • tgif888tgif888 Member Posts: 351
It'll cost you quiet a lot if you want to change to TRUE HID lights. Not those white one and pretend to be HID lights.

I assume on your I30L, you have heated seats, traction control system, and maybe painted splash guards? Invoice of this vehicle is $28750, so $27400 is pretty good. S. Cal is selling $27750.

    Jfb7:

Bought the car yet?? I just joined the happy INFINITI family 1 month ago. I bought a REALLY NICE 1999 I30t - WITH A 5-SPEED!!! '99 was the last year for the standard option. Infiniti made fewer than 250 of them!!! The car has 15000 miles and rides like a dream! I paid $22,000. and feel I got a tremendous deal.

The I30's changed in 2000 but except for the new/antique-looking clock & the rear air vents, I like the styling of the '00 better (rear lights are MUCH better).

Good luck with your purchase. Whatever INFINITI you get, you won't regret it!!

I can also participate in VPP through my company (Nissan Supplier)

For an 2001 I30L with splash guards, heated seats, and trac control, I paid 26660. This is BEFORE tax, title, etc. This did include a $200 marketing/advertising charge and a $50 doc. fee.

Worked out to be ~1700 below invoice.

I bought the car in February, at that time the VPP incentive was $1400. Now it is $1500 (see the What's new section at www.insidenissan.com). So, you should be able to beat me by $100.

    Happy hunting.

Hello everybody. I have decided to buy a 1998 I30. I saw this car at a local infinity dealer and I really liked it. It is a black I30 STD w/leather interior, moonroof, bose system/cd player. It is certified and has only 25k miles. what is the reasonable price for this car. Is 21k
max or too much. I would really appreciate any pice suggestions. thanks a bunch.. jkr

Hmm, the KBB said private party sale of this vehicle worth $18415 for good condition.
  • jkrjkr Member Posts: 4
Since it is a dealer and certified, is it reasonable to say 20k, take it or leave it.

Traded in my 2000 I-30L for a 2001 I-30L. Had 28K miles. Got 19K for the trade. Bet I could have sold it on the private market for more. Who knows, didn't have the time. Car was in great
condition and was the Titanium color. I really like the 2001 better,(like the compass, got 6 disc
changer and the mud guards.) The power windows seem less jerky, and the steering wheel
radio controls are great. I could have waited for the 02, but got a great price and the bigger
engine I can live without. I'll wait to see what the 04 offers.......
  • jaygavrickjaygavrick Member Posts: 5
Sure. Offer him $20,000. If it looks like you'll lose the sale, though you may want to come up a little. I bought my I30t 1999 5-speed from a dealer and paid a little more. I think it was worth it. I really like the 99 (and the 98) better than the 2000 and 2001 I30's. Either way they're great cars! Don't lose this one.

I recently purchased a 2001 I30L. The salesman told me that some cars have an In-Dash CD changer and some don't, but the car that I was purchasing did. Is there some trick to using it? Don't you just feed all CD right into it without pushing any buttons. I think it must not really have the changer.
  • umpopaumpopa Member Posts: 37
I wasn't aware that the in-dash multi-disc CD changer was available AT ALL in the 2001, although 2002 should be different. Try the owner's manual; it should discuss all the various options on your car. If that's not enough, contact the Infiniti people on thir toll-free number, and they should be more forthcoming.
  • asherhusainasherhusain Member Posts: 3
I'm from Midwest... bought mine from Infiniti of Lisle in IL.

Location shouldn't matter, VPP pricing is a formula. Have you received the form from Nissan yet? It shows the calculation right on it.

The only variable from dealer to dealer or region to region should be marketing/advert fees and any fees your dealership charges for document processing. And of course sales tax, license plate, and title fees.

The dealer IS REQUIRED to show you his invoice as part of the VPP Program. You can take the numbers right off of it and plug them into the form to come up with the pricing yourself.
  • tgif888tgif888 Member Posts: 351
6 disc CD-changer is not available in the 2001 model. Unless your dealer installed an after market one. It is available in the 2002 I35.

If it comes with the in dash 6 disc CD-changer. There is a button to rotate to different tracks for you to insert the CD.
  • yortzyortz Member Posts: 4
Just my opinion, but I think that you should change your oil every 3/4K or 3 months. It doesn't matter about your driving habits or location, regular oil & filter changes are the best preventive maintenance items you can do for your car. Changing fluids are much cheaper then replacing parts! You should also only use OEM Nissan oil filters, they are the best. I have a 2000 I30t & have changed the oil & filter every 3K, been using Mobil 1 syn. since 6K.

I'm ready to buy a 2001 I30L. A dealer has found a car with the color and options I want (including Xenon HID lights) except it also has the 6 disc CD changer. I currently have a trunk mounted changer in my Accord and would prefer simply the single in-dash player. The dealer tells me that the single in-dash player is still useable in addition to the changer in the trunk. Can anyone on here confirm this ASAP?

    Thanks!
  • vtgtvtgt Member Posts: 30
Your saleman is right. You still can use the single in-dash player when having CD changer in trunk. My car has both and I use both.
