So is there a wood piece for the plastic cup-holder that extends out from the passenger-side air vent? It looks like it, but I can't tell for sure from your pic.
Wood kit looks sharp and is classy. What does it cost?
Also in regards to a message on 6/16 - if Infiniti dealers hold tight on the I-30 pricing, and the I-35 hits in October, will the I-35 cost appreciably more? If so how much? Or if it (I-35) is comparably priced I imagine the value of the I-30 will decrease when it comes to resell or trade.
If dealers laughed when you mentioned under invoice - make it a real laugh - walk out and go somewhere else!
I have the '01 - I-30, with the GoodYear Eagles - no road noise and a very quiet ride. Only 2000 miles on it so far and it has been problem free - so far.
I am new to Infiniti.I am doing pricing on Acura TL-S.It seems there are a lot of complaints on the TL-S,the quality of paint is one of them and so on the big positive is the engine. So should I wait for the I35.Is Infiniti better quality?
waynewes and laheat-The wood kit is come from the dealer, when I bought the I30, the dealer throw this in for free. The bra is from www.autoanything.com It cost around $85 plus $8 on shipping. Yes, I did get additional tint on the window.
1519-I own both the I30 and Acura TL Type S. IMHO, Infiniti is a better build car than the TL Type S. Since the TL Type S is new this year, you may experience some little problems here and there. It is O.K. for the first year production car. If you want the I35, I bet the dealer is going to sell those at MSRP for a while. If you can wait, you can wait till the price on I35 to drop down. However, the price of the I30 dropped quite a lot in S. Cal. I got my $600 under invoice and the dealer throw in the wood kit for free. I believe someone had said some dealer is selling at $2500 below invoice on I30 in S. Cal. You can read previous post to find out. You can find more I35 info. on www.nissannews.com
You are probably not aware of this, as I wasn't until coming across it on www.maxima.org website. Nissan/Infiniti decided to leave off a part on the 2001 models as compared to the 2000 models. This part is a protector or also called a splashguard that should be in front of the fuel line in the drivers side rear wheelwell. It was on the 2000 models but Nissan decided it wasn't needed on the '01 model cars. What this piece does is to protect the fuel line going from the filler door to the gas tank. Without this part, all road debris, water, mud, rocks, sand, etc that is thrown up by the tire directly hits the fuel line.
Numerous Maxima owners have had their dealers install this part on their cars. SOme dealers are doing this under warranty while others are charging about $20 for the parts and $20 for the labor (it takes about 15 mins to install). I contacted Infiniti customer support on Friday and they called me back today. She said that the Nissan engineers didn't think the part was necessary because the fuel line could protect itself. Then why was it there on the '00 models????
Just wanted to pass that along to everyone. You can easily tell if the part is missing. Look in the rear wheelwell behind the tire and if you see 4 mounting brackets with nothing attached, it is missing!! You can see the fuel line exposed there too.
Your car looks sharp! How can I get in touch with your dealership. I would really like to know who the manufacturer of the wood dash kit was. Did you tint the rear window as well? I have been concerned that it might affect the defrost if I tinted mine.
I'm not sure which splashguard you were referring to. These are NOT the ones that are installed on the outside of the opening. This piece would not be visable from the outside.
Thanks for the info. I have contacted your dealership and am waiting on an answer. Can you tell a difference between the installed pieces and the ones the original pieces. I purchased a kit from a company and wasn't satisfied with the wood grain. Did you have a new radio installed? Mine looks different than the one in the picture.
It looks very good. I would like to know that the wood trim that you installed is made of wood or some other material (plastic or synthetic). Also, how long did it take you to install it? Thanks
I look at my car already, I did see what you described in the previous message. Is there a part number or name of the parts that suppose to go on there?
I have talked to my dealer (whom I am not pleased with for other reasons) and they were no help. I called Infiniti Consumer Affairs and they tell me that we don't need that part, but if we want it, the parts department at dealer can order. It is called "fuel line protector". It is a plastic piece and 4 connector clips that fit the mounting brackets that you seen when you looked there.
The Nissan forum at www.maxima.org has photos of it under the "5th generation" forum and the topic of "Manufacture flaw-must read". They saw the parts are about $20 and labor should be about the same. Some have put them on themselves by jacking up car and talking off wheel.
Just a quick question: If the manufacturer doesn't think the piece is needed, and the dealer doesn't think the piece is needed, why are folks taking the time to find one? If this is a 5th Generation problem, that means that every car produced after 6/99 was built/shipped without this piece. If it was a problem, wouldn't there have been a mass-recall or something?
Well, the 2000 models all have this piece. Even some of the first run 2001 models have them. Nissan decided that this piece wasn't necessary and deleted it from the production line in order to save money. At least that is what someone posted at the Maxima forum that Nissan North America hold told them.
The fuss is that without this piece, every piece of road debris that is slung up by the rear tire directly hits the fuel line going from the filler opening to the fuel tank. OVer time, that can't be good. Then there is the problem with sand and dirt accumulating in the filler door area.
my dealer tells me that the license plate bolts on the rear, issued by the mfgr., will not fit properly in all 2001 I30. The plate is loose. Has anyone encounter a fix for this problem
I just spent several hours dealing with the infiniti folks trying to cut a deal on the I30. They got down to 500 OVER invoice. Everything- including TTL= 30,600. FYI, the most basic I30 is what I am trying to get, and I was hoping for, under invoice. I am in the New Orleans area. Am I missing something?
I think that 500 over invoice is as good as you will get on the price. You can also try to get good interest rates for the loan. I am picking up a 2000 36 month lease today. They cut tax, offered 2.5% APR. They are trying to move them for the new model.
I am about to purchase my first Infiniti, a 2001 I30 certified pre-own with 14k miles for $26,600 plus TTL. The car is coming out of a lease program and I want to know if I should purchase for $850 the extended warranty beyond the basic 4 years coverage. I do typically keep a vehicle 5-7 years or so. Is there any financing out there better than 5.9% at the dealership? Please let me have any thoughts any of you could share on the above. Thanks.
Is the car you are looking at an "L" or a "T"? If this is an "L" with 14k miles, I would not pay 26,600 for it unless it has all the options avaiable including navigation. I purchased a "T" with heated seats, sport pkg, and traction control about a month and half ago that was new for $30,200. I had offers from dealers on a brand new "L" for just a touch over $27,000. So, I would really think about buying a 2001 with 14k miles for only a few hundred under that unless it is full loaded.
Just my 2 cents........These are great cars, by the way. You will really enjoy it!
It basically comes down to supply and demand. I think your area have a higher price than S. California. I try www.carsdirect.com, it quoted $358 over inovice. You can print out the inovice from carsdirect and have your dealer match it.
I beleive S. Cal had the best price so far. Someone in this forum quote a S. Cal dealer sold at $2500 under inovice. Good Luck.
I totally agreed with cpa4u. The price is kind of high for a I30 with 14K miles at $26,600. Well, unless it is a "T" model, otherwise you can buy a new "L" model at this price.
While there is no more 2002 I30, I35 is quite a great car from the preview. From the 260 hp engine and the new front design. However, the I35 will come around October, and I bet the dealer will sell the I35 at MSRP for a while. And now it is a good time for you to strick a deal on I30. May I ask where are you located?
If you are going to buy the Extended Warranty, I advise you get the one from Infiniti not the 3rd party one. And how long is the extended warranty? And how much is the deductible and what is the coverage? This things are very important, too.
Thanks everyone for you thoughts on the I30 price. I walked on saturday. The deal is good, but I know it can be better. I was first told that they could do no lower than 3% over invoice, then 500 over. They must not be feeling the heat quite yet here in NOLA. I will continue shopping for 2-300 below invoice- that's a significant saving and well worth the time for a car that I like, but am not in love with.
Thanks to all for your comments. They are very helpful. In reply, the I30 is a "L", but having never owned and Infiniti before, I consider it otherwise loaded enough for me. I don't quite have all the details on the extended warranty yet to give an answer. I am located in Baton Rouge, LA and if $26.6K is a little high to pay, maybe I'll keep looking. Anyway, thanks again and let me know if you guys think of anything else.
has anyone priced an i30L in jersey recently? i'm in central jersey and get a price of $200 below invoice on carsdirect.com. any info would be appreciated. thanks!
Just purchased a T in the chicagoland area for $300 Under invoice. They called it $500 under but included the goofy $200 ad fee as invoice. I almost killed the deal because of this but nobody else in the area could beat the price. Put about 300 miles on it this weekend and it was wonderful to drive. Buyers should focus on the end of month to get best deals. Call around, deals are can be had!
We are looking at (probably) a new AWD Passat or Audi, primarily because we live at 8500 ft., in the shade, with a long sloped gravel driveway that is essentially snowpacked ice from Nov. to April, with periodic Colorado powder on top of that. However, the I30t is a wonderful car, and we would reconsider our "AWD only" position, if we were comfortable that traction control would get us up the hill, without the running start I've had to do for the last 8 years in the Integra. The smart thing to do, of course, would be to wait and try one in Nov., but time might not permit that. Does anyone have experience on icy hills, from a standing start, in an I30t?
Just bought a 2001 i30t this Saturday. The touring model came with Sports Package and CD Changer. I bought the most popular color (according to the dealer) and paid 29,100.00 for the car not including taxes, license, and doc fee's.
Titanium Exterior Charcoal interior (Graphite)
Did i pay too much? I am in the SF bay area if that changes the pricing at all??
I bought my I30L with heated seats, traction control, CD changer, and splash guards for 28K even last December. I think you can buy the same car at 27K - 27.5K. I bought at Catera in Edison.
Okay, fellow I30 owners, I need a sympathetic ear and hopefully some good advice! My recently purchased '96 I30T (bought from a private party) has been in the shop for 2 days to fix the non-functioning a/c, and I just received disturbing news that the car had obviously been in a collision because the bumper (under the bumper cover) is bowed in and has damaged the condenser. They said they couldn't replace it without my having some body work done to fix the bumper. To further add to my misery, they said they couldn't guarantee the compressor wasn't shot also.
So I can choose to live without the a/c (not a happy option with my 2 little kids and a hot summer looming) or get it all fixed for major bucks. The previous owner, natch, never disclosed anything about a collision, just acknowledged that he never used the a/c and wasn't sure it worked anyway. I'm wondering if the dealer he bought it from knew, and never disclosed it to him, and if I have any recourse in that event. I live in Mass. and from what I gather, the lemon law won't help me, as the car DID pass inspection despite this. Perhaps I have some recourse if the seller deliberately withheld collision information. Does anyone know? My Carfax title check, by the way, revealed nothing amiss, but I'm told that it would only show up as a title issue if the car was totaled.
I'm totally bummed about this...I love this car, but am heartsick at having to spend a significant amount of money to get this taken care of. Thanks for any advice.
I would call up the prior owner and ask him/her about the accident. Also, did you ask about accidents? You may have some recourse, but I wouldn't count on it.
I plan to install a dash trim on my 01 I30. I searched some web sites and learned that there are two different kinds of dash trim, one is real wood and another is plastic/synthetic material. I don't know the existing wood trim in I30 is real wood or fake one?? Which product is better? If you know any info about this, please let me know. Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion, mmcbride. The owner claimed he hadn't done it, must have been that way when he bought it from the dealer. Oh well...caveat emptor, right?
That is a real shame about your car. You should go back to the dealer that sold the car to the person you bought it from. They may be able to tell you what happened and if they had disclosed the information. If you ran Carfax, it should be able to tell you how long the previous owner had the car. If he only had it a short period of time, he may have known about the problem. Then, you may have some recourse. Good luck.
This is a trivial question I know but I bellied up and bought the 2001 I30 this weekend. I am trying to think of the best way to protect the light tan carpet/floor mats from the wear and tear that I am going to put on them. I work outside alot and getting in and out of the car will no doubt track in dirt, grass, oil/grease, etc. from time to time. Should I just go and get a rubber floor mat for the drivers and perhaps passenger side. Those seem to diminish the "luxury" of the interior, but as a practical matter, I really don't know what to do. Any ideas?
I've always had the clear rubber floor mats over my carpets in all of my cars. Especially during raining days, it just keeps the mud, water off the carpet directly. Had few accidental spillage of drinks in my car too, and was saved by the plastic mats!
So, I would recommend getting some clear plastic mats at your local target, pep boys stores for ~$20, much cheaper then buying new carpets or constantly cleaning them!
Has anyone put any type of after market wheels on your I30 (If so what size)? I am thinking of changing the look of my 01 I30 a bit and was wondering if anyone had any experience with other wheels. Thanks.
You may as well just pick up dark colored mats. I have the clear mats in my car (with tan interior) and when it does in fact get dirty (rainy summer or during winter) you can see the mud nicely contrast with the light interior and looks worse than just having beefy dark colored mats in (I havent found nice beefy clear mats).
Jaki30, I plan on doing just that, thank you. Good thing I'm so crazy about the car, or this just wouldn't be worth the hassle.
As far as floor mats go, I agree with mhammy. My tan mats don't stand a chance with my 2 kids, so I bought some black rubber mats for $10 to cover them, which has significantly reduced my stress! The mats do slip and slide a bit, but I can live with that. And they don't look half bad, either.
Edmunds.com includes the I30T in its just published Entry Level Luxury Sport Sedans Comparison Test. Check it out by following the link in the Additional Resources box on the left sidebar of this page.
