No it is not normal for the car (I-30 or otherwise) to pull right or left. You may want to take it to a mechanic that specilizes in automobile frame work and get an expert opinion. You may have a bent frame and if the dealer did not disclose that to you (or whomever you bought it from) you have a cause of action. Even if bought new, it may have been in an accident and been fixed. If your car pulls in any direction you will go through a lot of tires!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck!
I looked at both the I30t and the Maxima SE before I bought the Maxima. I liked the looks of the I30t better and the handling/suspension I think is the same. Reason I went with the Max was I decided I wanted a 5-speed manual and the closest (to me) Infiniti dealer is about 90 miles and 1.5 hours away. The Nissan dealer I purchased from fortunately provides exceptional service and takes good care of their customers. If I wanted an automatic and had Infiniti dealer close by I would probably go with the I30t, but like humble rex says they are both great cars and either is a good choice. Incidently, I am looking forward to seeing 2002 or 3 Infiniti XVL.
I posted this in the Maxima area and will post it here too: On 94 - 99 Maximas/Infiniti there is no caster or camber adjustment front or rear. Probably an example of Nissan saving money. So when you pay for a dealer wheel alignment all you really get is a toe adjustment. After 3 dealer unsuccessful tries to correct a slight right pull on my car (purchased new, never wrecked), I took my 99 to a private mechanic who's computer machine said that the rear wheels were in spec, the right front was in spec, but the left front wheel, even though in factory spec (which is a very wide range) varied from the right tire so much that that was causing the problem of right pull. How to adjust? His solution which worked, was to grind a very small slot on the strut bolt hole, allowing the needed adjustment. That fixed it. Car tracks great. Dealer would not do this and wanted me to put up with the right pull (their thought was: if its inside the spec range you should put up with the pull). He said they are trained not to grind on any car part. Course, if they owned the car they would not put up with the pull for 2 hours, but would fix it quick. Another person in my office has had the same problem with Ford twin I beam, and Nissan trucks, where the dealer said its "in spec", and it was balanced better/later by an independant.
I had an I30t Midnight Blue/Biege with nav. and sport package. Now is the good time to buy an I30, most of the people can buy the can between $500 to $1000 below invoice. The new I35 will have a 260 hp versus the 227 hp in I30. I was going to wait for the I35, too. But I figure out when the I35 comes out it is going to sell for MSRP for a while. And now I can get the I30 below invoice.
And in the above link, Nissan said it will offers the I35 in numerous option. I was immediately turn off by that. Numberous option??? Well, the I30 is never a performance car, I don't think I need a 260 hp I35.
Hi, I want to buy an I30t with sport package, no NAV, within the next few days, and I have some questions hopefully some of you have answers.
I went to 2 infiniti dealers today, and both claimed the it's difficult to find an I30t with heated seats here in Southern CA. Both dealers told me that they don't have that option available here because of the warm climate. I wanted to know if this is true.
One of the dealer mentioned that there is a 1000 rebate from manufacture, but they dont' know when it ends, I am wondering if anyone has any ideas? also, during the negotiation, they used that as a discount! But, shouldn't I settled on the final price before even talking about the rebate?
one more question, what is the best infiniti dealership in SoCal from your experiences!
Heated seats most likely are rather difficult to find in SoCal. The main reason they are not standard eq. is that dealers in SoCal and FL did not want to pay for them in the invoice price.
I believe that there may be $1,000 back from mfg. since this is not a customer rebate the dealer does not have to discuss it at all, but if you are aware that the tissue is $1,000 lower you can factor that in to your negotiations.
Agreed with mvagro1, it is hard to find the heated seat option in S. California. I bought mine like one month ago, I30t with nav. and sport package. This is a hard one to come by either. Infiniti didn't put enough nav. in the I30t.
I bought mine from Metro Infiniti, my sales name is Fred. He is the fleet manager. He is a very nice guy and he works hard with you. Try to avoid Glendale Infiniti, the sales over there didn't know the products. When I tried to buy mine, I need to show them how to identify which car had nav. or not. I file a complain about acout Glendale Infiniti to Infiniti already.
I was wondering in terms of negotiation, I see that people are getting 500-1000 below invoice on the I30t here in SoCal, shouldn't the 1000 rebate come AFTER we settle on a final price of the car, instead of being discussed in the negotiation?
It really depends on your dealership. Some dealerships might just avoid or the sales told you there are no $1000 incentive. You might want to try to call couple dealerships and ask for a quotation over the phone.
When I bought mine, the sale had been honest about the $1000 rebate. He just told me, "We have the $1000 rebate and this is the price". But when I bought mine, it was in May. I don't know about do the rebate carry through June.
When I bought my I30t last month (in Kentucky), I had a dealer in Nashville and one in Louisville swear up and down that there was NO $1000 incentive. I had found it via this web site. Finally, the dealer in Lexington that I spoke with confirmed the $1000 and made me a deal that ended up being approximately $300 under invoice. You should be able to do better in So Cal though.
I'm interested in the I30 but I can't seem to find any info on the net regarding this $1,000 dealer incentive that is mentioned in several of the posts above. Please post the link that references this incentive. I was able to find the Maxima incentive ($500), nothing on the infiniti. Thanks in advance!!
Go to the "Incentives and Rebates" forum under the "Finance Warranty and Insurance" section. Ask the question there if the $1000 incentive is still in effect. The moderator there always has the inside info about all the incentives and rebates. Thats how I found out for sure that the $1000 was there. Even after 2 Infiniti dealers swore up and down there wasn't. Finally, I found an honest dealership that confirmed there was and made me a deal.
I am very serious about buying an I30. Thanks to all the positive comments in these columns (and driving it ofcourse), I am convinced that this will be a good buy.
However, neither of the two delaers I spoke to here in Georgia, were willing to discuss any discount below the Invoice price.
Infact one dealer said that this $1000 discount applies only to previous Infiniti owners.
Can anyone confirm or disagree with the above? It will be great, if someone who has received this discount can comment on the above.
I talked with Roswell in Atlanta and couldn't get anything under invoice. Not sure what part of GA you are in, but if close to Tennessee, try the Infiniti dealer in Knoxville. I got them to $200 under invoice. Ended up buying the car up here in Kentucky where I am from though. But, they seemed good to deal with (at least on the phone).
Their is an additional $1,000 incentive for current Infiniti owners.
Just because their is $1,000 coming back from mfg. does not mean that in every part of the country you will be able to buy the car for a huge amount under invoice. For some dealers making less than $1,000 above cost is not worth the time and effort involved. a 3% profit margin just does not pay the bills and if there are enough people in an area still paying a fair price for the vehicle there is no need to give the car away.
Try this website, punch in your zip code and see what is the price the website quoting. For putting in S. Cal zip code. I can already got $500 under invoice. For fun, I try the Lexus ES300, I was able to get $1100 under invoice.
Anyone have troubles with the CD changer under the front seat stopping on a cut on the CD, or displaying "no disc" even tho the changer is loaded with CDs.???? we have cleaned it.
I just sold one of our cars yesterday, and I'm shopping arond for a 98 I30, witch is the quieter one from the all series I30 until now (that is what I read regard, I never own any). I drove both models, Touring and Standard, and I prefer Standard. I found it pretty quiet and powerful, I guess is going to be good for me.
Can anybody tell me how much will be a fair price for a 35.000miles, 98 I 30(srandard), perf. condition, still in Infiniti warranty? (what I saw, is the dealer after negociation, was almost ready to sell it for $17.500 +tax, but I left).
The I30 has a smoother ride so it may be better for commute purposes. And the side sill extension on the t looks kinda goofy on this type of sedan. I like the 17" wheels on the t though.
When I bought my I30, personally I didn't like the wheel in the Luxury model. The wheel in the I30t is much better. And also, in the I30t the Xenon headlights are standard and you get a sport tune suspension in the I30t. That's why I end up buying the I30t. The sport package (side grills and the spoiler) also made the I30 looks a whole lot better.
May I ask what is the $249 (processing fee) for? I remembered when I bought mine, I got the car with (selling price+tax+$45 doc fee) and that's it.
We bought our cars about the same time. Have you received the survey from Infiniti yet? I have not and it is almost 1 month after purchase. I want to let Infiniti know about a few problems with my dealer!!
First to: edwardh5 - the 2001 model has the CD changer in the trunk: there is NO room under the seats like in earlier models.
Next for: psriniv - your price is in the ballpark, (I got mine for 30K out the door, including tax, plates etc., and that was my final offer) BUT I suspect they are going to come down in price because the I-35 should be out in October and I bet Infiniti will be blowing out the I-30s - so DON'T GET HOT and DEAL HARD w/these guys - you can always WALK out of the dealer and come back another day!!! They will probably follow you to the door and plead w/you to come back and sit down. [Always check prices on Edmunds, CarsDirect.com and others - they are right on]
For cpa4u: I got my survey in 1 week - the phone number for Infiniti Consumer Affairs on my survey is: 1-800-662-6200
Bought our 2001 I30L in April. I really don't think that Infiniti is going to blow out the I30 prices. I suspect that the I30s ordered by the dealers decreased in amount when the dealers found out about the I35. Why would they stock up when they know a hotter model is coming? I really believe that Infiniti will hang tough on the price of the I35 and sell the rest of the I30s at about the price range they are at now. Then they will be in the same position as Acura with the 3.2TL vs. the 3.2TLS. IMHO
Went to Beverly Hills Infiniti this past weekend here in So. Cal with a friend to buy an I30t. He had been speaking with the fleet manager Howard throughout the week, seems pleasant and professional over the phone and agreed on a final price of 29k+tax+lic, with sports package, 6CD, no chrome wheels, no nav. So, he went ahead and made an appointment to go into the dealership and pick up the car.
Upon arriving at the dealership 5 min early for our 9am appointment, Howard was 15 min late, we waited. Once he arrived, being the manager in charge of the day (my own guess), phone calls, other demands kept him busy for another 10 min, we waited, giving him benefits of the doubt, and also we wanted to remain professional and maintaining a good buying experience. Then we were told that his porter will be coming in late, thus will not have the car cleaned and ready for pick up until ~noon. We asked to at least see the car first, and have a test drive to make sure there is no problem with the car. He proceeded to 'find' the car key, or someone to get the car from the lot.
10 min later, we then learned that Beverly Hills Infiniti has 2 different lots where they store their autos, and due to the fact that they have to physically and manually track each car, so there is no way of knowing which lot the car may be at. But it should be no problem of seeing the car because the lots are 2 blocks away from the dealership. Howard drove us to the first lot, it wasn't there, we then proceeded to the second lot, it wasn't there. Then we learned it can be at a third lot across the street from the dealership, thus we drive back to the dealership, walked across the street on our quest to find the car. Third try, no car, THEN, we learned again the car had to be at the remaining 2 lots. We got back into the car, drove over to check out these 2 remaining lots. 4th and 5th try, car is not there! Went back to the dealership, then was told there is one final place that the car can be at, the underground service shop. For the 6th time? we followed Howard, walked around the building down 2 flights of stairs to the underground service, and big surprise, car is NOT there!
Howard sweared they have the car at the dealership, because he's holding on to the key, and also the computer shows the car is in. After an hour and a half of searching, hiking, driving around Beverly hills, waiting, being patient, Howard's only reply was "gentlemen, I don't know what to you tell ya."
Is it just me? Or isn't the job of the fleet manager to KEEP TRACK OF INVENTORY? Knowing how many cars he has, and maybe even knowing where the cars are?
We left the dealership while Howard continues his search! He called back 2 hours later, and told us the car was sold the previous day and is being worked on at the dealership. Thus, the key is there, however the car was in the service shop, which I thought we visited (another lot??) He offers to add spoiler/side sills to another I30t to match our original specs, and claimed he has the car on the lot and agreed to sell at 28K even. It is a very good deal in my opinion, however, with our earlier experience, we decided we did not have enough energy for another treasure hunt.
I got my survey like 3 weeks ago and turn it in already.
lex430, sorry to hear about your purchasing experience. maybe just one bad apple. Well, 28k even is a very good deal. Beverly Hills Infiniti and Glendale Infiniti were the only two didn't response to my purchase request when I bought my I30t. I e-mail to Infiniti and complain these dealerships. Infiniti had replied to me and open a customer complain file on this dealership then the dealership call me. This is where I told them, "you guys are too late, I already bought my car."
Hi folks! Just found reference to the upcoming G45 at the following site: www.automotivenews.com
It's a VERY short article and only one snapshot. From what I can see, the car is a looker. Does anyone else have information regarding the car that they could point me to?
Sounds like just a bad day at the dealership. Howard was my salesman on both the I30s I've had, and I had no problems. He was at Santa Monica Infiniti, but just moved to the Beverly Hills dealership and told me that they just don't have enough room to store cars in that area.
While my LS is getting a power steering hose, I got an '01 I30 as a loaner. It's a fine car, however doesn't inspire the driver at all, IMHO. It seems like something the Town Car, Avalon, ES300 crowd would purchase. I miss the balance and sheer driving pleasure my LS gives. I'm not sure how pricing compares as I didn't look at this car when I purchased. For those considering this car why not give the Lincoln a try?
I did compare the I30 to a guy at work who bought a Maxima 20th Anniversary edition. They were virtually the same. The clock is different and his Max didn't have the memory seats. I don't know if that is available on the Max. If you're set on getting this car, I would recommend checking out the Maxima as a less expensive alternative. Just my humble opinion.
The Anni. Max. costs just as much as an I30 for a car without as much warrenty, worse customer service, and uglier tail lights.
The Linclon is a Rear Wheel Drive (not really a bad thing just not as practical here in the Northeast), much smaller inside, and the reliability is not even close to an Infiniti.
I wouldn't say the Lincoln is "much smaller inside". Remember, I have both! And as to reliability, according to whom? I understand that the Infiniti is a rental, however, the steering wheel should not be cocked to the left like it is. Define reliability. I've had Ford's exclusively for the last 15 years. The only time I was stuck was when my Sable with 150k had the water pump sieze. I was close to home and did make it. Cars are just mass produced machines and ALL marques have problems. If they didn't, dealers wouldn't need a service department! Also MOST manufacturers these days contract out most of the sub-systems on their cars. I know my Lincoln has 7 different radios available, from the factory. That is the problem with my power steering hose. It seems the dealer has to get it from some vendor. I think all this contracting out leads to quality issues. I've put over 450k on 5 cars over the last 15 years. I still have 2 of them. I'm not knocking the car, it is fine for what it is.
I didn't know about the prices. Like I said, I didn't check. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think the styling on the Max is much better than the, IMHO, Plain Jane Infiniti. Again, styling preferences are totally subjective.
I'll leave now as I won't have this car much longer (yippie!). Again, I'm not putting down anybodies decision to purchase this car. If we all liked the same thing we could all be driving around in Yugo's (BLAAAAAHH!!)!
I've been driving my 96 I30t for a few days now and adore it, but can't seem to figure out the temp controls.
The lowest the temp will register is 65 degrees, and the a/c is not kicking in no matter what I try(in fact, it blows out warm air at that temperature). The previous owner tells me it never went below 65, which I find hard to believe. He said he didn't care for a/c and never used it.
I've fiddled with the switches and read the manual, and still no a/c. I have a service appt. scheduled in a week, but am I just hitting the wrong button? Or does this sound like I'm in for a major repair job? I know freon (or whatever they use) doesn't last indefinitely. It's getting hot here in New England and I'd appreciate the a/c! Thanks for any advice you can offer.
just hit "auto" and set the temp to 65. it doesnt go lower than 65. when you start the car on a warm day, and hit "auto" you should hear the compressor kick on (keep your door open and listen for it). allow it to run for a few mins and if its still blowing warm air after 10 mins, that means the compressor may be blown. if the previous owner never used the a/c, that is theoretically a bad sign since the compressor is supposed to engaged at least once a month year-round so that the parts do not stiffen up.
Has anyone purchased in the last couple weeks?? would love to hear some pricing (talk about your deal from invoice). Based on several previous posts, it seems you can find cars under invoice. Looking hard at the I30T. Anyone purchase in Chicagoland?? Want as much data as possible b4 I start to deal. Thanks in advance!
a friend of mine bought it last week here in CA, we got 2k under invoice on i30T, no NAV, no Chrome wheels, with sports package, spoiler (included i believe), side sills, and 6CD, and tehre is no heated seats nor traction control here in CA, and one of the dealer is willing to go 2500 under invoice.
$2,500 under invoice?? Sounds to good to be true? I would think there would need to be significant dealer incentives above and beyond the $1,000 incentive mentioned on this board. Anyone else seeing these types of discounts???
Has anyone out there ever experienced wind/road noise while driving your I30. I just purchased an 2001 I30T abut a month ago, and I keep hearing a considerable amount of wind road/noise for a car in this class and price. Also, I have had a problem with some buzzing/humming noise coming from the rear panel where the sub woofer is located. I do not think my sub woofer is blown but something is causing a buzzing/humming sound in my sound system. I notice it more when there is bass or low frequency sounds coming from the sub woofer. Does anyone have any answers out there? Thanks.
I've got an I30 as a rental. I noticed the wind/road noise also. I blame the tires for the noise. They are what are not too affectionately known as Badyears. I also noticed the noise was much worse on concrete freeways. The wind noise was more than I expected, but not unbearable below about 85mph.
Compare to my Acura TL Type S, the I30t is so much quieter. Of course it won't be like Lexus 430's quiet. I don't think I had excessive wind/road noise.
About your sound system, I'll definitely bring to the dealer and have it check. I didn't experience this problem at all. I also bought mine last month.
we found that you can get 2k under invoice here in So. Cal right now, and we dealt with one of the dealer and got him to agree to 2.5k under, but we ended up buying from another dealer because of service, attitude, and the overall buying experience.
So, if you try hard enough and w/ a little luck, you can get them to lower the price. Few of the dealers we went to laughed in my face when i mentioned the word "under invoice".
My I30 is now almost 2 months old. Took it for my first short trip of about 500 miles. Handling was excellent. The only problem I have noticed with the car is an annoying clink type of noise when I take my foot off the brake pedal when I am stopped at a light. This happens probably 4 out of 5 times I take my foot off. The noise is on the inside by the pedal. Anyone have similar noise. Is your brake pedal quiet? Is this normal. I will mention to the dealer when I take it in for normal service but I just wanted to know ahead of time if this is a problem or normal with the car.

I bought I30 last year and was considering Maxima and I 30.
Both cars are good and you cannot go wrong with either. I30 comes with better warranty, service, and name.
The cost of I30 was about 2000 dollars more then maxima SE. However cost of insurance for SE (in phoenix, for us) was 200/per six month more then I30.
So in five years I will break even with maxima So we went with Infiniti.
Hope this helps

I have taken it back twice and they claim that it's normal. Anyone else with this problem. I can see the front tires are cupped.

Planning to buy a 01 I30.
I got a quote of $26,995 + $249 (proc fee) + $545 (freight) from rosenthal infiniti at tysons corner in northern virginia.
I30 or I30t- which should i go for. The car is primarily for commute purposes.
BTW, has anyone had any experience with priceline.coms car buying feature.
Would appreciate any kind of advice/ input regarding these aspects.
Thanks

Is it just me? Or isn't the job of the fleet manager to KEEP TRACK OF INVENTORY? Knowing how many cars he has, and maybe even knowing where the cars are?
We left the dealership while Howard continues his search! He called back 2 hours later, and told us the car was sold the previous day and is being worked on at the dealership. Thus, the key is there, however the car was in the service shop, which I thought we visited (another lot??) He offers to add spoiler/side sills to another I30t to match our original specs, and claimed he has the car on the lot and agreed to sell at 28K even. It is a very good deal in my opinion, however, with our earlier experience, we decided we did not have enough energy for another treasure hunt.
lex430, sorry to hear about your purchasing experience. maybe just one bad apple.
It's a VERY short article and only one snapshot. From what I can see, the car is a looker. Does anyone else have information regarding the car that they could point me to?
I did compare the I30 to a guy at work who bought a Maxima 20th Anniversary edition. They were virtually the same. The clock is different and his Max didn't have the memory seats. I don't know if that is available on the Max. If you're set on getting this car, I would recommend checking out the Maxima as a less expensive alternative. Just my humble opinion.
The Linclon is a Rear Wheel Drive (not really a bad thing just not as practical here in the Northeast), much smaller inside, and the reliability is not even close to an Infiniti.
They really follow BMW by making the coupe looking more like a 2 door sedan.

Hope this helps.
About your sound system, I'll definitely bring to the dealer and have it check. I didn't experience this problem at all. I also bought mine last month.
Good Luck.
What do you guys think?
So, if you try hard enough and w/ a little luck, you can get them to lower the price. Few of the dealers we went to laughed in my face when i mentioned the word "under invoice".
HA! HA!
