I used Carsdirect.com. The only extras on my $300 over invoice deal was $84 for plates and $187 for documents. No TDA. Easiest deal since I bought my Saturn...but I did work edmunds and the internet for 4 months.

I am not sure what Toyota's policy is with regard to non US vehicles. But, here in the Baltimore/DC area a local Honda dealer was bringing in Canadian Odysseys last year. They had to change the speedometers out. There were some minor differences (heated side mirrors, daytime running lights, celsius temp readings). But the major difference was NO Honda of America warranty. The dealership provided the buyer with an aftermarket warranty (added to their price, of course). They recouped their costs to do this with a premium over the US MSRP amount, and found willing buyers due to the demand.

Back to Siennas: Has anyone heard the Toyota new incentives for this quarter? It seems like the pricing got more agressive at the end of March.

I'm in the market for a Sienna LE with upgrade packages UN and UR (Best price I've found so far is 25,500 plus tags and tax). Any good deals in Maryland? I visited a dealer in Bowie, MD and noticed some of the Sienna's were made in Canada. Any problems with that - are the parts, service the same?

I had a good buying experience with Fitzgerald Toytota in Gaithersburg, MD. Their prices are posted on the web; (www.fitzmall.com). I purchased mine there a month ago and had a good buying experience.

What can you tell about a car by the VIN. i.e. can you tell the style of the car and its options? How is this done? Anyone?
  • afriend99afriend99 Member Posts: 2
What I can tell you about IN is that one time I gave my IN# to Geico insurance. They can pull out all info about my senna '01 and the options too, such as front and side air bag, day-light head lights. I hope this will give you some ideas about IN.

    try www.vinpower.com.

Download program and insert vin number. It will then decode it for you.

Best price i'll got for a toyota sienna le with the following options fe,to,be,un,ur,ef,sk was $26065. They charged $480. for dest. and $410. for tda. They said that the dest. and the TDA are included with the car.Tried talking them out of the tda charge but no can do. Are those charges made up or not can someone help.
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
No, the TDA charge is real. Edmunds and a number of websites choose to miss it rather than be wrong since it varies regionally.

    Hello everyone,
We have our van! It arrived from factory order last week. I must now repay this forum by posting my deal and hope this helps someone out there.

2001 SIENNA XLE Sailfin Blue/Gray Leather with the following options: LL, RB, EM, UF, BE, VD, SD, 9E, and 4 michelin tires upgrade. This last option I believe is only offered in Florida for an invoice price of $355. Tire upgrade invoice price obtained from cars-direct.com.

    Edmunds Invoice: $31,200
    Edmunds Invoice with Tires: $31,555
    Edmunds TMV: $32,554

    My sell price: $31,074
My Out the door price: $33,565

Purchased from Stadium Toyota in Tampa. I will highly recommend Gettel Toyota in Bradenton.

Based on Edmunds invoice numbers I purchased at $481 under invoice. Note that this van was special order, not from any dealer's inventory.

The van is great and since I shopped thru the internet the whole sale process took less than 2 hours. I only met the sales person the day of the pickup.

To Karengill, My van has the VCP system and the moonroof no problems. My kid loves to watch his videos. Our next trip to Atlanta will be a wonderfull experience.

I hope you and everyone else the best of lucks on your deals. If anyone wants to drop me an e-mail for additional info is econtre1@tampabay.rr.com

    Hi all,

Well, it ends up we are getting a van sooner than we thought. We are moving to TX in June and were planning to buy/order from there. We went to Jimmy Bran Toyota in Orlando yesterday just to see a van with a VEs and found out that we could go ahead and buy it here and register it in TX. After much thought we decided to go ahead and go for it. We're getting our van from North Carolina, so it will take about 2 weeks. The only thing it doesn't have that I wanted is the heated seats. We decided that was something we could live without. It does have the VSC, side air bags, towing package, electrochromic mirror, XLE package, XLE Luxury package, 50 state emissions, maple wood, travel package and, of course, the VES. It sure will make the move a lot nicer. Instead of two adults, two kids and a dog in a Mazda Protege we can spread out a little. Thank you all for your help and advice. It's a good feeling to know you're not getting taken by these people!!!

  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
You can usually do better. Try taking that price to your local dealer.
  • ssoto1ssoto1 Member Posts: 66
Do you think that priceline can do better than cardirect.com If priceline can beat that price then I will use priceline help I live in Queens Thank you for your input..

lol, check his profile. I doubt that raybear is gonna send you to carsdirect anymore than I'm gonna send you to Kelley's for a number :-). Come to think of it, you can also get a quote from an Edmunds partner through the new cars pages.

But my first suggestion is to try locally, then expand the search. Check Edmunds TMV as a benchmark, use Carsdirect for pricing info and try to beat whatever they quote. Both Carsdirect and Priceline have to get the car from the dealers. Cars is a direct seller/broker, Priceline is more of a mediator.

Whatever you choose, make sure the options you search for or request are readily available, so give your local dealer a chance. They will have the best idea of what's available.

And to see who's winning the the ongoing battle between dealerships and third-party online sales brokers in the war for American consumers, check this link out. (Hint--the dealers seem to be winning).

Having survived the first round is good enough for me. Lucky for guys like us there are still consumers looking for information and third-party intervention on their behalf.
  • pbl1pbl1 Member Posts: 3
Well we have our Sienna. If it might help someone, here are the numbers. After much homework and searching it came down to two options. 1)LE with TO, extra val pack, upgrade 2, side air bags, auto-dim mirror and rear bump protect. from cars direct for $25,347 ($27,549 OTD). 2)Cert. used LE (10kmiles) with only extra val pack from local dealer for $22,410 or $24,250 OTD. I went for No. 2 since I didn't want all the additional options. A new equivalent to No. 2 was not available. As for carsdirect I found that a ZIP 45 miles away was $1500 cheaper than my ZIP.
  • cmkrishcmkrish Member Posts: 1
We have ordered a 2001 LE, Sailfin Pearl Blue with Grey interior and the following options, UN, UP, TO, EF, BE, VD and V5.

    Invoice $25,272.00
    TDA $300.00
    Dealer Profit(over invoice) $400.00
    Doc. Prep fee $49.00
    ------------
    Total $26,030.00
    ------------

The $9.00 difference is for EF, for which dealer's invoice shows as $45.00 not $36.00.

He also threw in a Cargo Net (GN - $30.00) and the first oil change for free.

Thanks everyone for all the contributions to these forums.

We bought a used Previa about 3 years ago, and we've been very happy with it. For a variety of reasons, we're looking to get a new van. I'd like to get an XLE with the A, ID and BE options. Has anyone had a good experience with a Toyota dealer in the Boston area? Thanks.
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
Those sound like the wrong option codes for Boston. Check your information. What are A and ID?

In case this helps anyone, just got a quote on an LE that has every option available (as listed in the color glossy brochure--the two option packages, side air bags, etc.). Price was $26088 plus the usual taxes, license, registration, and dealer document fee. This price came from Mark Miller Toyota in Salt Lake City. They have 8 or 9 Sienna's in stock and seem ready to deal.

Having read every message on this board to prepare for my big day at the Toyota dealership, I thought I should return the favor and share my buying experience with the readers of this board.

Yesterday (4/28) I purchased a Stratosphere Blue Sienna XLE from Leith Toyota in Raleigh, NC. The vehicle came with the towing option, leather seats, video entertainment system and the five tire Michelin upgrade. The color is stunning and was the reason we ditched another local dealer in favor of Leith.

I got the vehicle at invoice BUT my estimate of invoice (from Edmunds) was around $400 less than the invoice number shown to me at the dealership. The difference was largely the SouthEast Toyota Distributor's Admin fee (AKA dealer profit). The other nasty shock was the Documentation Fee, which was added at the last minute. It was $299! I figured that at least $200 of this was profit so overall I paid $600 over 'true invoice'. Overall, I was happy with the deal, $600 profit on a $30k vehicle equates to 2%

The details of the pricing are as follows; MRSP = $32625 (exc. del), dealer invoice = $29567 (incl admin and delivery), title = $61, doc fee = $299, NC tax = $887. Bottom line, $30814

The salesman was Glen Finkel. He was happy to work with me on price and treated me with respect and honesty throughout the transaction. I believe he represented me well when working with his sales manager and would recommend him to future buyers. Buying on the last weekend of the month also meant that Glen was particularly keen to win my business to secure a bonus.

It appears that the industry's defense against the informed buyer is to introduce 'non-negotiable' fees. If I did this all again, I'd spend a little more time understanding these fees because I suspect if you really tried hard you could negotiate some, or all, of these fees away.

    Happy Shopping,

    AdWest

For all interested, I got a Sienna CE with the above for 25000 OTD even. I set a price of 24800 OTD spent 20 minutes waiting and then took offers of 25859, 25357 and 25127. No haggling on my part since I stuck to my original price, almost. What do you think.

I bought a Sienna LE on 4/28 at Tansky Toyota in Dublin, OH. Options: TO, UN, N1, GN, EF
Price: $24,100 including destination, excluding tax, tag, title. Finally went for Toyota over Honda due to Consumer Reports predicted reliability. Toyota is smoother and quieter.

    Just brought home the following:
    LE in Desert Sand:
    Base: 22922
    TO 128
    UN 272
    UR 1004
    EF 36
    VD 440
    BE 215
    WL 31
    Dest 480
Subt 25528 (agrees with Edmunds inv)
+TDA 410 (hated to pay but unavoidable in CT)
+profit 550 (they called 250 of this Doc fee)
Total 26488 ... plus CT tax (6%) and tags ($100)

Thanks to all on this board for their insight.
  • aaronhoaaronho Member Posts: 6
Did you have any problem getting the VD at all? How long did you have to wait before your van came in?
I can't get it on the LE in IL. All the dealers that I talked to said that I had to wait 90 to 120 days if I want it on the LE. I can get it faster if I order an XLE with luxury packages!!! It is not just one dealer, all the dealers said that in the Chicago area!!!

So, I ordered a Desert Sand with SK, UN, UR and EF for $25261 plus tax(6.75%) and ~$180 doc fee.

is it true that a dealer can save more money if you order you car from them rather than buy the car that's been sitting in the lot for a while?
  • thewolverinethewolverine Member Posts: 111
    Marc;
    Which dealership in CT?
  • marc36marc36 Member Posts: 8
To Aaron..LE was on lot. In Dec. when I started looking, no LE's had VD. In April '01, many of them did. The VD almost always was combined with BE. Didn't really want the BE but had to take it.
To Sam..this was Stamford Toyota..they had quite good inventory in stock. Looked like Toyota Westport would give similar price, but their inventory was slimmer...features in stock too far from my needs.
  • thewolverinethewolverine Member Posts: 111
    Marc;

Thanks for the reply - interesting as when I quoted these Stamford and Westport last fall I got a much higher price for the LE with BE/VD and it was a special order.

Eventually, like Aaron, I couldn't get the VD option special order or not - just BE (I wanted both). I ended up getting an XLE with all options except VD and the VCR setup for $29,500 - not bad but I like Marc's deal better - good work Marc!

Of course I knew I was in trouble buying in the fall when the new models just came out.

    UN Package
    EF
    $23,860 including TDA of $250

With our first baby on the way and my '86 Chevy Celebrity just not looking safe enough for baby (and no a/c) we had to look for used. I couldn't stand the thought of buying a Chrysler or Ford knowing I'd probably put a tranny or head gasket in within a year or two.

Several of my friends have the new Odyssey. They're nice but way too expensive for us right now. I researched and wanted the Sienna for the safety and reliability and size. I was lucky to find a used one at Middletown Toyota in Middletown, Connecticut. Not sure exactly what option packages it has.

    1998 Sienna LE
    77,000 miles
    Power windows
    Power locks
    Captain's chairs
    Running boards
    Roof rack
    Wheel upgrade
    Dual A/C
    Privacy glass
    Light Green

    $15,250

I got them to include four new Yokohama Aegis tires to replace the worn Firestone Affinitys, a complete brake job all around, and all the fluids changed. We felt pretty good driving out past the new Siennas. If they are as reliable as people say they are (250,000mi no problem)then I think we got a pretty good deal.

Just got LE with UN, TO and EF, for $24,315.

    Dessert Sand.

I saw in this Sunday's Chicago Tribune section on Transportation a brand new Sienna LE with UN Package and FE advertised by a local dealer for $23,000. Am looking for a Sienna for my wife and was wondering if this is a great price, or just one of those bait-n-switch gimmicks. The price is the lowest I've seen for an LE. It's seems lower even than the invoice. Does this mean a CE with upgrade pkg can be had for under $22K? What are your thoughts?
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
That's about $1000 below invoice! Are there rebates in your area? Helluva deal.

Got 1998 LE used in March - 19K miles - for $18K. Still under New car 36K mi Warranty for a few mor months.. CD/Tape - Running Boards, Roof Rack, 5 Door, cloth. Owned by Mechanic at Dealer - All Records.. New price was $24.5K per records supplied Did Good?
  • carczarcarczar Member Posts: 23
I'm not sure what kind of rebates they have, but the aforementioned Siennal LE was advertised by Schaumburgh Toyota located in Schaumburgh IL, the northern suburbs of Chicago. I've got to go check it out sometime this week. $1,000 under invoice sounds too good to pass up.
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
It's too good to pass up only if you need a car!

Got my XLE Silver Shadow last Sunday, mother's day, after a week of phone calls to 8 dealerships. Options are UF, BE, EM, LL, and EF for 29,000 destination charge included. MSRP is 32,811. No hidden charges like advertising fee and I was not charged for the gas like some dealers do. Got it from Toyota of El Cajon. Absolutely no haggle.

I am having a difficult time learning what all these abbreviations for the various options are. I have found some of them on Edmunds web site, but it does not appear to be complete. Can someone tell me where I can find them all?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Not to mention that our spell checker "adjusts" some of the option abbreviations when members post what they purchased.

Anyone else think that Edmunds missed some option packages on the Options and Colors Tab when you search on New Cars? ( example for the CE 4dr)
