Just read all the posts, but haven't seen anything regarding this: Have been told by dealer that you can't get a 2001 XLE without whopping LL package - says they just coming in that way. Absolutely do not want leather seats, let alone entire option package. Just want basic XLE in attractive color. The only colors on the lots in our area are the gold silver or white - yawn - thats probably not an accident either! What's our next move? We have to order what we want? How do you work that into your deal without giving them the upper hand. Can anyone advise?

kirclay#451, We're not anywhere near Chicago, but purchased the Extended Warranty with our new 2001 LE a few weeks ago and paid $948. Toyota has a plan that you can pay out the amount over a period of 12 months without any finance charge as long as you set it up with an automatic withdrawl. We're not in a metro area so we thought it would be good to get the extended warranty since it can be used at any auto repair in our area starting now instead of later. I didn't ask, but was curious if it would have cost more if we had waited until the manufacture warranty ran out and then purchased the extended. Does anyone know? Like I said this works best for us anyway since we are so far away from the nearest Toyota dealership.

If you are on good terms w/ a particular dealer/salesperson then ask them to show you the current factory allocation print-out. This will tell you exactly how the factory is building all the Sienna models, incl. options and colors for your area and what % they are making that way. Last year my sister was looking for an Avalon with specific options, ext. color, and int. color. Found out factory wasn't making them that way-so she made a different selection based on that info. So your best bet is to first see how the XLE's are being built and then go from there. Hope this helps.

My wife and I were looking for a Sienna XLE with side airbags as an option. Couldn't find anyone in the Philadelphia area who had it in stock. Our local dealer said he could order one for $2200 over invoice, and that it would take three months. Thorugh this site, I saw a post for Steve Belford of Newark Toyota, Phone 302-283-5107, e-mail steveb@newarktoyotaworld.com. He offered to order us a vehicle at $600 over invoice (no haggling) and that he could get it within a month. I promised I'd put a post here if he came through as promised.

The van, which is beautiful, came as promised within the month. The price was what he said. The closing of the deal and pick-up took us about 45 minutes. It was well worth the drive from Philadelphia to Newark.

Thanks mcgregor - Unfortunately for us it's been a good ten years since we last bought a car, so we don't have a relationship with anyone to speak of. I'll give (asking for the printout) a shot, though. My husband and I just don't want to be raked over the coals just because we want to buy a Sienna. I guess we'll just have to be prepared to walk out the door if we don't like deal - just as surfer7 said in post #441.

From posts in the Highlander forum, I came across a post for a large dealer that lists inventory on hand along with PRICES!!! It is www.fitzgeraldautomall.com. They list the MSRP, Invoice, No Haggle Price, and an Internet No Haggle Price. The internet price is about $300 lower than the No Haggle Price because it does not include the free oil changes and free loaner vehicle for all service work. I found this sight to be very informative.

This site has provided such good feedback on purchasing advice, I just wanted to pass along last weeks buying experience. Purchased Sienna LE ($22,922) with: Towing pk ($128), UN and UP upgrade ($272 + $624), Hitch ($239), Bump protect ($36), 4 mich tire upgrade ($355), SE adv fee ($550), SE delivery surchg ($15), Dest chg ($480) for $24,874 (+tag, tax)...According to my invoice calc from KBB.com invoice prices, thats $747 UNDER sum of invoice parts noted... CarsDirect.com added up to $25,621 in comparison... Hope I didn't miss anything here, but appears to be good deal...
Used invoicedealers.com, got referral from Marietta Toyota 'Internet Sales Mgr', and told him wanted best price to close deal 'today'...Glad I didn't offer my sum-of-parts invoice, cause even w/o SE adv fee of $550 if he didn't put that in his offer, , it's still under invoice

There were over 36 LEs on lot and we have at least 8 dealerships in Atlanta area...so fairly competitive mkt now.
So Don't even Settle for Invoice!

First, XLE is definitely available w/o LL package.
I have seen several. They are rare since it is not much different than the LE loaded up. I have the LL package and really like the extras.

I've been reading this forum way back in anticipation of buying an LE by springtime. Seems like prices have slid from inv+$1000 (at least in parts of US) during much of 2000, to invoice flat recently (but I'm sure CT dealers near me still looking to get $500 over if they can!). Is my perception of the market pricing consistent with what others are seeing? Do you think demand is down, supply is up, or is this just a slow time of year? (in which case maybe I should buy now rather than April/May?). Readers thoughts?

me $599. This is Toyota's Platinum with $0 deductible. My aunt know's the owner of the dealership I bought from and they told me they were giving me the extended warranty at cost. It seemed pretty reasonable. It's a 6yr./75,000 mile warranty. I look at it this way though, the factory warranty is 3yr. bumper to bumper, so the extended warranty is basically good for 3yrs. after that. I drive less than 12k per year so the mileage isn't an issue.

I like to keep my cars clean and this is the first one I've bought for $30k. I went to Home Depot and bought a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet that was a dark beige in color. I took all the seats out and cut the carpet to fit the interior floor of the van, cutting out around the seat anchors and so forth. This will keep the original carpet new and the indoor carpet is sturdier than the factory carpet. At less than $30 I can replace this carpet anytime I like and it looks totally perfect!

The base price was 28,000 in my previous posting ...

After 3 months wait I picked up my Startosphere Mica XLE on Saturday from Rice Toyota, Greensboro, NC.

The color is absolutely stunning. I wonder why this color is not generally available and why do people have to special order for this color ?

Anyways, here is what ptions I have and what I have and what I paid.

    Factory Installed:
    1. XLE Upgrade PKG # 1 HF (leather + CD changer)
    2. Vehicle skid control (VD)
    3. Side air bags (BE)
    4. Power passenger sliding door.
    5. Towing package (UF)

    Southeast Toyota Distributor Installed:
    1. Rear bumber protector (BP1)
    2. Center console box (CA1)

    Price: 28,000.00(base) +
    480.00 (destination) +
    854.40 (NC tax) +
    56.00 (Title) +
    75.00 (Doc)
= 29,465.40 (out of the door).

I delat with Paul Cullinan and he was good to work with.

    2) Why does SE distributor NOT seem to allocate this color??

These are not genuine Toyota parts. Hence the problem with finding them. Gulf States dealers and some other dealers have them as distributor parts. They match and fit perfectly. I priced rear ones for $57 at local dealer. Too much for piece of painted plastic (XLE). Be aware that the 2001 Sienna XLE has two color choices on the bottom cladding. One is "cool" the other is "warm". Oyster was last years cladding color but may be the same as the "cool". My 2001 is Sand MIca and has the "warm".

    Inky;

Regarding the 2 colors for 2001 XLE - can I assume the cool is the darker of the 2 choices? I'm getting ready to purchase these from Texas Toyota ($50) as I'm tired of all the mud on the back of my van so the $50 is worth it to me.

I have Denim Blue/ w Silver gray cladding which probably means cool.

Also, I was under the inmpression the mudguards were Toyota Canada parts as I'd seen a picture on E-Bay with English/French instructions.
  • inkyinky Member Posts: 370
Please give me www. for Texas Toyota. They should know the difference is you give them the car color. I ordered the warm ones for my sand mica a month ago and not in. The cool onces (silver) came but were the wrong color. I believe yours to be the cool. The mudguards are in their Gulf STates distributor book. Let us know when you get them. I will pay 40-45 for them. The van really needs the rear muds.

    The site address is http://www.toyota-parts.com/.

You are correct - these are aftermarket and not Genuine Toyota parts (this site has plenty of both). Under aftermarket parts they have Sienna muduards for 98 - 2000 ($45 for XLE and $17 for LE) - when I last called them (6 weeks ago) they said they expected the guards for 2001 would be available eventually.

BTW I did order a genuine Toyota 2001 front end mask - saved some $, got it promptly and had no problems - they are on the up-and-up.

I was hoping to purchase the item I'd seen on E-Bay which looked like a Genuine Toyota part (with part # C0060-08981) which I think is a Canadian part . I'll send a picture - tell me what you think.

If I can't find this part then I'll order From Texas Toyota shortly.

Agreed we really need the rear guards.

  • srivnavasrivnava Member Posts: 13
My van is an XLE with warm gray. I do not know what cool gray looks like, but mine is sort of dark silver gray.

I called the texas toyota's 800 number (800.514.9007) and ordered the mudguards on Tuesday. He charged me 17.50 for rear pair and 17.50 for front pair and about 10.00 for shipping (total of ~45.00). I called this morning again to check if he had sent me the right stuff, and he swears that what he sent was gray in color and not black (for LE or CE). I should be getting them before this weekend and I will let you know what I got and if they match my van's body cladding color.

I am extremely pleased with my special order XLE that I picked up last week from Smart Toyota, Malison, WI. Wanted side air bags, VSC, White with grey leather and was willing to wait. (It took almost 4 months) Options included UF,BE,VD,HD,EM,LL,GN,EF and DH. List including destination was $34,185. Paid $30,266. Sales rep Cal Kerr (877.397.6278)was a pleasure to work with. Very professional and honest.

In the Atlanta area, one of the dealers tells me that there is some $495 of delivery and $290 of document processing, and some $700 of some kind of distributor charges (I don't remember the exact name). Now, all these amounts are added on top of the base invoice price plus destination charges, before taxes and title+tag, etc. ($41) are added. And they seem to want a "profit" on top of all this (to m NOT paid all this for a Sienna in the Atlanta area? Thanks.

Having done our "homework" and with post cards in hand, my husband amd I went to our local dealership - Bob Ciasulli Auto Group in Eatontown, NJ (www.bcautogroup.com) or phone(732)544-1000 and purchased a 2001 Silver Shadow Pearl Sienna LE off the lot (FE, TO, BE, UN, UR, EF, GN, RB, SK, and WL).First we went to a Toyota dealership in Freehold, NJ back in October of last year to see the inventory on hand and test drive. The sales rep was arrogant - kept us waiting alone in the cubicle for a long time - (that's when I noticed he had a picture of himself on the wall - who does that?) before returning with the keys (maybe he left the intercom mike on?) and attempted to first pump us for information so he could fill out his 4-square (read "10 steps to Buying a New Car" in the "Car Buying Tutorial" under "Advice" on the home page.) We just gave vague answers until he finally let us test drive the van. As the tutorial states, test driving lets you assess the rep and the dealership as well as the car. We decided we would not go back.
This past summer my husband had gone with his mom to the Eatontown dealership to help her buy a Camry (which she loves but thats another discussion!)He liked the sales rep's style - he wasn't sleazy, arrogant, or pushy, nor did he waer any of the tell tale gold jewelry or excessive hair products - defintitely a bad sign!
I was hesitant to go there because my neighbor had a bad experience at this dealership - I think they looked up her credit without permission at which she got angry and promptly went out to the Freehold place and bought her Sienna there.
Anyway, since we didn't like our experience at Feehold, we would try local.
When we were ready to buy we asked for the sales rep my mother-in-law had dealth with (Darren Sirota) and worked out a pretty good deal. I must say we weren't happy with the already dealer-installed security etching thing on the window you have to buy, but he came down on the cost of that and it wasn't extravagant - just unecessary. The price of the van, which he quoted well under TMV included the $80 del. fee and no adv. fee.
We got him to come up on his offer for our trade-in as well. In the F&I Room, all we were asked was if we wanted to know more about the extended warranty (no) and that was all.
Bottom line was that working with someone who isn't a sleaze and was willing to negotiate in a profesional manner was as important as all the prep work we did. You can do all the homework you want, but if you sit down with a sales rep who will try to dispute your fact-gathering efforts, it won't matter. Do not spend your time defending your information. If that starts to happen, be prepared to get up and leave - always and at any time. Lucky for us we didn't have to, but we had done it in the past. It was pretty funny. The rep came running out of dealership after us. We couldn't believe it! Sorry if my post is long, but hopefully what I've said will be of service to others in the market to buy a car as I have found the posts in Town Hall to be (with the exception of cblake's posts - but we won't go there!)

As someone suggested, I email to list of toyota dealer in St. Louis area and let them bid my business. I got my best deal at Seeger Toyota on Jan. 6th, 2001, the internet sales manager is Joe Pullaro, his mobile phone is: 314 518 5414, his office number is 314 434 5000.

      My deal is as follows:

Toyota Sienna LE with UN, TO, EF option, ( I also got an N1 option free because I didn't ask for it)

Total Price: $23900.00 (it's almost invoice price)

I traded in my 94 Mitsubishi Mirage S sedan for $2500.00, ( which is the best trade in price among all the dealers)

     so the subtotal is: $21400.00

plus the documentation fee of $65.00

    I finally paid $21465.00

Joe asked me to put a link to his website at:

    http://www.seegertoyota.com

at that time, I could also get a close deal with

Yates Harrison of straatmann toyota at(636)239-4775

    atoyota@usmo.com

    www.straatmanntoyota.com

The third place in the bidding is:

Joshua Hayden, Sales Consultant from Feld Toyota

    314-849-3700 or e-mail back at info@feldtoyota.com

From my experience, you can get best deal from Seeger and Straatmann Toyota, you can also get a very close deal with Feld Toyota in St. Louis area.

"He paid $22,600 out the door BUT that included his trade-in a 93 Previa with 100000 mi.What do you guys think? ..."

Why don't you figure this one out ? Go to www.kellybluebook.com , enter the requested information, and get a price. Then, I would
say, subtract about 30% of it to get closer to reality. Add the result to the $22600 your brother paid. Compare that to the MSRP. If the difference is 10% or more, he did just fine.

I know it was early in the am when you posted, grplavloff, but remember that you have 30 minutes to make any changes or fixes after you post a message.

vaffanculo, a good source for a trade-in value is Edmunds' True Market Value which may be closer to that "reality" number you are looking for.

Hello everyone, there is one thing that is for certain about car dealers, that if you let your guard down they will pull a blanket over your head so that you can't see what they are really doing! Do not trust them. Do not become friends with them. Do not fall for the I'm only making $100 in this deal. Above all, do not let your guard down for one second until the deal is done, and you're out of the dealership with your new vehicle. The deal I posted on 487 did not come through. Deland Toyota, promised the vehicle based on those numbers, but when I asked for the buyer's order they added $1095 to it. Making the sale price $32,111.00. Therefore, I would not recommend you dealing with this dealership. Anyway I got a better deal from Stadium Toyota. I sent them the email I got from Gettel Toyota and asked them to beat it. They did! my sell price now is better than before $31,074.00. I must make mention that Gettel Toyota had the best internet sales manager, and she was honest from the beginning. She gave me the lowest price, and I shopped that against everybody else. I felt a little sad, because the other dealers I had to go back and forth. I will highly recommend you to drop your email requests with Angela Shrimplin at Gettel Toyota in Bradenton, FL. I placed my order with Stadium Toyota because they beat Angela's quote by nearly $600. Quite frankly, I would had ignore it for $200, but $600 is a substantial difference. Now all I have to do is wait. I will continue to post from time to time. When the deal is done I will post the final numbers in detail.

One last word of advice when shopping through the internet. Once you get the three best quotes, ask the dealerships to fax you a Buyer's Order spelling out every option added with the respective option code. If there buyer's order is incomplete, DO NOT AGREE UNTIL THEY FIX IT! if you agree you will get a lesser equipped vehicle and they will say that you agreed to it, and that the missing option was never listed on the buyer's order. Additionally, that email quote is nothing without the buyer's order to back it up. Once you have an accurate buyer's order they have to deliver. Good luck!

We bought at ATL Toyota and got the LE with convenience package (keyless entry, heated mirrors, etc), rear bumper "thing", and the magical Toyo guard paint package for 23.9K. We also traded in a vehicle, so our out the door cost after trade including tax, title, etc was 22.5.

We definitely enjoyed our purchasing experience there (ask for Natasha), but the interest rates for financing are laughable. Get your own!

I've had my 2001 LE two weeks now. Purchased through carsdirect.com. Didn't know what to expect, but in the end the experience was not too bad. carsdirect's price for a LE with convenience pkg#2, VSC, side air bags, tow package was appproximately $25,800 or about $450 over invoice. The paper work and pricing was prearranged by the carsdirect agent but in the end, the final deal was handled by a representative of the dealer who will try to sell you things. In my case, I overpaid for a dealer installed alarm system. By the way, don't believe the dealer when they tell you that the VSC only comes in the XLE. They build lots of LEs with VSC.

Toyota is much more committed to advertising VSC than they are putting it into the cars they build.

We are wanting to get an XLE in early June. We'd like it with the luxury package, video entertainment system, heated seats, auto-dimming electrochromic rear view mirror with compass. We'd like it in either the Sail fin Blue or the Denim Blue Mica. Another question is can you have both the VES and the moon roof? I did the TMV calculation on Edmunds and figure that about 32,000 would be a good price to pay. Does having to order a van make it difficult to get a good price? And finally, does anyone know a good dealership in east Texas, Dallas/FW or Shreveport LA? Thank you very much.

Well, my husband has decided we might as well get the towing package and the side airbags too. Do any vans come to the lots fully loaded? I'm thinking we're going to have to special order. How early should I start contacting dealerships? I will have to be doing this over e-mail since we will not be moving to TX (where we will be buying the van) until the end of May. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This board has been such a big help.

Just purchased a 2001 LE with UN, TO, & EF for $23,652 from Walnut Creek Toyota. This was $3,100 off MSRP. Was the easiest car purchase I ever made. I was in and out in just over an hour and that included getting financing as well. They also gave me a full tank of gas. The salesman that I dealt with was Jerry Campbell and he can be reached at (925)381-8043.

The car dealers in my city don't seem to have any XLEs with the VSC. Is it better to go to a different region to find it? Is it more common in states which get severe winter weather? What is the reason that Toyota is advertising it as an option in their brochure for LEs and XLEs if you can't find it? It is really frustrating as I think that it is an important option. Also, some dealers are taking $2000 off of MSRP. Is this typical or should I be looking for a better deal than that? Thanks!!!!

The van you want is very similar to the one I just ordered. I ordered a Sailfin Blue with gray leather. Options included: LL luxury package, VES, VSC, side airbags, electrochomic mirror, tow, wind deflector, running boards, and I had the tires upgraded to michelin's. I do not trust the firestone's. In the southeast, there were no vans like that. Most likely your van will have to be special ordered. the key options are the side airbags and the VSC. If you're willing to do away with these safety features, then your chances of finding a van are very good. Otherwise, you are looking at 90 - 120 days for delivery. You should consider the worst case of 120 days wait and start you purchase process accordingly. I wanted mine prior to the end of May, thus I ordered in Feb. I'm paying $31,074 for it, which is below edmunds invoice. Here is how I did it. Go to carsdirect.com and go through the motions like if you were going to order your van through them. That will get you the initial price to beat. In other words, whomever you deal with will have to beat that, because you can always order it through carsdirect. Then, send your e-mail requests for out the door sale price. I requested out the door because I wanted to avoid getting a great sale price from a dealer and then having them tag on tons of fees. Get the three best out the door quotes and email them again. Tell them that in order to continue negotiations you need their offer brokendown in detailed (price of van with options, tax, tags, fees, etc). Let them know that without that there will be no further negotiations. Finnaly, get the best offer fax to you in the form of a Buyer's Order. the Buyer's order must list all the options line by line. Basically, you want the buyer's order to look exactly like you want it. Make sure that they list the XLE luxury package (LL), because they may try to list leather, moon roof, and not list the dual power sliding doors. Be carefull, and do not trust them until you drive away with your van. I should warn you, I sent 50 emails, and I only got about 15 responses. From which only 5 were truthful and honest. I believe you can order the van and still get a good price; I did! Dealers will always try to get you to buy from their inventory. My wife and decided to wait, because for this much money we might as well get exactly what we want. I hope this information helps you.
