The car comes with FE, TO, UN, V5, and EF. The color is Stratosphere Mica with Gray interior and Gray bumper. It has a pretty nice looking. I ask the dealer to give me a center console box and cargo net for free. I also get a free lifetime oil change for every 3750 miles. The dealer gives me a full tank of gas, and I drive the new car home with $25178 out of my pocket with no trade-in and no loan.
The MSRP is $28896 including dealer Markup. It is about $3700 off from the MSRP. I feel that this price is not to bad. At least, I am happy and the salesmen are happy. The most important thing is that my 3-year-old is very happy after sitting on my old corolla for 3 years.
The #407 deal could be good depending on the taxes etc. that went with the deal. My calculations show the net cost at invoice, including freight but not TDA is $23614. This leaves $1564 unaccounted for. Are taxes about 6% in OR?
I am searching for a particular LE configuration in Southern California that I have been unable to locate.
I emailed 49 dealers in Southern California. 3 email addresses from the www.toyota.com site were wrong. 10 responded. The range in quotes were from $380 to $1220 (which included Dealer TDA)over cost as indicated by Edmund's. They typically avoided quoting a cost over invoice, although a few did.
They quoted vans as close to what I wanted as they had in inventory. 3 dealers offered to order the van for me. The process was great and painless, but have not found a van yet to make a deal on.
If and when I make a deal, I'll post it. This board has been very helpful in making the process painless.
I too thought of other vans. The one thing that did it for me was the low depreciation of this van Vs. the others. Here we are one year after the sale and my van is worth just a little more that what I paid for it! Not too bad for a car. Honda will hold the value that way as well. The Chrysler? Not even close.
Do your research and know the dealers price. Make the best deal you can. Be willing to spend some time and have a budget for everything. If the deal falls in your budget, you got a good deal. Enjoy.
If I say you had paid way too much for the LE, will you be able to get the money back or return the van to the dealer ?
Why do you want to torment yourself after you have bought a good vehicle ? Enjoy the ride. In the long run, the amount you paid extra (if at all) will be a wash ... (JMHO)
By the way, my target price is $24,900 (invoice+$400 dealer+$400 TDA) for a 2001 LE with UN, UP, TO, EF. I've got a couple of dealers very close to this price. Any comments? It seems that at least in Northern California, no dealer is willing to drop the $400 TDA.
new invoice as 11-1-200 witch was up $375.00.
did i get a good deal?
I live in Connecticut and priced Westerchester as well as CT.
I been getting about 1000 to 1200 0ver 9invoice whic is still to high.
If you think the sienna is high try the Honda Odyssey they want 2000 over MSRP>
Try westchester you might do alittle better.
If you go to the site: www.kingtoyota.com
e-mail the sales department, ask for Marty or Larry to give you a quote...I'm sure you will not be disappointed...my friend was able to buy his at invoice + $300 without any of the typical dealer hassles or BS.

After some long and hard nose negotiations (and getting serious with some other dealers) he agreed to sell us a new Sienna Le with options UN,UR,TO,FE and EF for dealer invoice $24,825.
This is a brand new 2001 Sienna LE minivan with 34 miles and absolutely nothing wrong with it. Perfect condition inside and out.
On top of this he gave me $1200 trade for my 1990 Plymouth Voyager which I found on the private market was worth less than $1000 on average.
My 'out the door' cost was $23,625 after trade + $114 doc fee plus $1181.25 sales tax and $65 for title & registration.
My wife and I are very please with the deal we were able to get. How did we do it you ask?
One of the owners of our local family run Toyota dealership told us he wanted to sell us a car more than any other dealer and build a good relationship/trust with us.
He told us he hopes we will refer others to him and bring both of our toyota vehicles to him for service/etc which we do plan to do. This is how he plans to make up for any loss in initial profit from the sale of the vehicle.
With a little luck and a lot of hard work you should be able to get a similar deal for yourself esp. now when sales are down for many dealers.
PS You have got to be thrilled to get out of that Plymouth.
Base Invoice 24,895
Dest 480
TDA 612
XL,FE,XE,DJ,AC
AJ,BE,EM,VD,EF,
GS 2153
Profit 800
TOTAL 28,940
(Excludes tax)
How did I do?
My wife and I are very please with the deal we made and absolutely love our new Sienna.
And yes... we are equally pleased to no longer but burdened by that 10 year old Plymouth!
Perhaps the Toyota folks requested this as they're tired of arguing over TDA? Perhaps they made a successful case that TDA really is part of inventory? Anyone at Edmunds care to respond?
Anyway if you have written contract at 28,940 I can't see how the price would legally change.
Hope you enjoy your XLE!
I'd be curious to see how you like EM (Electrochromatic Mirror) as that's a new 2001 option that sounds pretty cool.
I resorted to the Internet when we got WAY TOO MUCH PRESSURE at the dealer here in Corpus Christi. It was a classic Edmunds senerio. Well, they've lost our business and we're going to drive to San Antonio for a vacation and pick up a new Sienna!
Burgundy / oak, 36,xxx miles in excellent condition.
Options: towing package (cooling), running boards, burlwood dash, center console, cargo net.
Purchased new in September 1998. Clear title.
We plan to buy a full-size van now that we have two more children.
Looking for offers closest to $20,900. Located in Urbana, IL.
If interested, please contact me at: bigjohn2@iname.com
the Washington state and around area. It seems the BE always comes with every XLE here. So does VD(Vehicle Skid Control).
still am waiver between the odyssey and the sienna...
thanks
Smithtown Toyota, Sunrise Toyota in Oakdale and Competition Toyota in Middle Island. Personally I would try Sunrise first before going to any others. Competition was very poor in returning phone calls when we were trying to find out if they could get us a van from another dealer without waiting for 3 weeks for their own to show up. When Sunrise called with a follow up phone call and I told them I was a little annoyed with Competition, he found me a van in Conn. that he could deliver in 3 days. I then asked Competition how come they couldn't deliver. After a much heated discussion, the GM called me back and said he had a van for us and with an extra option at no charge.
The main thing here is that I heard Competition likes to play games. They'll agree to a great price and then try to get you to buy a vehicle with more options in it. And if that doesn't work they just won't deliver the vehicle by saying it never came in or the wrong one came in, etc. Don't know if this is all true but they did try to get us to buy a van with more options to which I said no.
If you do go to Sunrise, talk to David Burns. He was very nice to us and he's the one that was able to find us a van right away but they just wouldn't come down the extra few dollars.
However,by staying with Competition, and this isn't Competition's fault, we have an arbitration hearing on 11/28 to try and get a new van. Check out my 2 postings in Toyota van problems II to see why.
I'm sure prices have come down a bit. We bought ours not long after they started hitting the dealers. I do believe the good financing deals were on the 2000's to try to move them out. It's a little discouraging to pay what we paid and then see some much cheaper prices around the country. The price of living in NY.
We too wanted to check out the Odyssey but when we were looking, none were around to look at except ones that were already sold and the salesman wouldn't even let us sit in it. And at the time there was a 3 month wait on them and we didn't want to wait that long. Good luck in whatever you decide to get.
Just out of curiousity, who was the salesman at Competition that you spoke to? We had Joe Riccio.
Thanks. _ Alex
Our first reply was from the Lexington Toyota dealership. Mr. George Grey's response was:
"Your offer doesn't even deserve a quote."
Thankfully, some of the other dealers don't feel that way. My personal recommendation to anyone looking for a Toyota is to steer clear of Lexington Toyota.
I'll be posting the results of our bid solicitations on Wednesday, December 6th.
I live/work in the Hartford area and just bought an XLE (29,600 with LL,BE,HD,EF,UF - all available major options except video and VD - about $850 over invoice).
Got it at Branch in Watertown.
First I'd also get a quote from Chris Dowling at Dowling Toyota in Litchfield - he could not deliver exactly what I wanted when I wanted it. But he's quite reasonably priced - he's also the AutoByTel dealer for CT.
Also worth calling are Lorensen (Old Saybrook), and Balise in Springfield but I got my lowest prices from Branch and Dowling (and I called them ALL!)
Avoid the SuperStores in Hartford/Milford/Bristol, any of the dealers in Fairfield County and Wallingford. High hype/High prices.
All other dealers are pretty much in the middle tier price-wise - some will haggle for a little extra (Middletown) - others won't (A1 in New Haven). Expect about $1,000 above invoice at best.
Lastly, just because you buy somewhere doesn't mean you're tied to that dealer for service. I've been pretty happy with Hoffman in Avon for service. When it comes to service stick to the manual - a lot of dealers in CT will try to accelerate the service schedule without need.
Good Luck!
Base model, destination, UN package, upgrage to UP package, rear bumper protector (EF), center console box (SK), doc fee, advertising fee, dealer profit, sales tax (6.75%), and new plates. Has anyone done better? Is this price a pipe dream? Let me know what I can expect?
I just got mine in Silver Shadow with Extra Valued Package, Towing Package, Alloy wheels, Center Console Box, Rear Bumper Protector, Cargo net, and a full tank of gasoline for a total price of $25,400 plus tax, title, and fees.
I highly recommended this dealer. Star Toyota in Bayside, Queens. The salesman is nice and honest.
He told me the best price in the area is $1200 over invoice. I finally got the car about $1000 over invoice. The most important thing is no hassle. Please give it a visit if you are considered buying a Sienna.
(or so they say) at 3% over invoice. So an LE
listing for around $26,800 was going for $24,867.
I like the Sienna, but the local Chrysler dealer
offers a much more aggressive deal on a Town
& Country LX. It's list is $26,900. His price
is 1% over invoice. Then a $500 rebate off of
that. Then a 0.9% financing option for 36 months.
By the time I priced it all out, including tax,
the Toyota had started out at $100 less on list,
but ended up costing me $4400 more over a 36 month
period.
You've really got to be sold on the Sienna in
order to be willing to pay over $4000 more than an equivalent Chrysler.

Steve - Drew - Thanks for checking on this discussion for me - As of today I do see this forum in a search but wasn't before - But it does look like everyone has taken a Christmas break - of course if you time it right this is probably a great time to buy a car - I can't see the showrooms being too busy.

I called a couple of the dealerships in Columbus, OH and told each one that I only wanted to pay invoice for a Sienna LE. At first, they balked and said "no way". But I said, "I know new car prices are soft even for Toyotas." Most dealers will agree that the new and used car market is very weak because of the over supply of new and used cars. Two dealers said it was no problem for me to buy at invoice as long as they had the car I wanted on their lot. I ended up buying my Sienna LE at invoice. I paid invoice($25,072) and the sticker was about $28,200. The price I paid was 88.9% of the MSRP, sticker price. If you don't want to haggle with the dealer, I would recommend you call the dealership first, ask to speak with the salesman or sales manager. Tell them what you are willing to pay, i.e. invoice. Then if he tells you to come in first, I would say that you don't want to waste anyone's time because all you want to pay is invoice and you know the new car market is soft so it shouldn't be unrealistic. Also, you might want to add that you don't want to buy a Toyota Sienna unless you can get it at invoice. Good luck....even if the dealer rejects your offer, at least you didn't have to go there and haggle with them in person.
