Would like to know which KOONS in MD message #401 went to. Just visted the Westminster KOONS. Offered to sell me an LE with entertainment center for 27691. Not in a rush, and not particularly interested in the entertainment center unless I can get a deal.

After visiting edmunds.com, carsdirect.com, getting bids from liquidprice.com, visiting 1 dealer showroom, talking to another one on the phone, and e-mailing back and forth with a third dealer in the Central Jersey area, I went to yet a fourth dealer with my price in mind and went right to the business with the salesman. I already knew the price I could get from the other dealers (in writing too), so I backed off another $200 and basically said this is the price I'm going to pay for, right now. He couldn't believe my other prices, but since I had written proof and the dealer did not have any other customer at the moment, he went with it. The sales manager tried to raise me $500 and I said no way and I'll walk, so the dealer agreed to my price and I got done in 30 minutes.

This is what I got: Silver Shadow XLE with Luxury Package, Towing Package, Side Airbags, Skid Control, Heated Seats, Moonroof Wind Deflector, Rear Bumper Protector, Cargo Net, and Wheel Locks. I got it for $32,200. I had the dealer work this price backwards to get the vehicle price. With a sales tax of 6% in NJ and a title "fee" of $155, this gets the vehicle price to $30,231. The invoice on this from edmunds.com is $29,673 and the "advertising" fee is $458. The supposed profit over invoice is then $100.

Since I'm in no hurry to get the van and the dealer did not have one on the lot, I agreed to let him order this vehicle and wait for delivery, which would be in 4 - 6 weeks.

Overall, it's not too bad once all the researches have been done.

Just worked a deal for my in-laws for a 2001 LE for $25,052, plus a $119 title/doc fee. Options were: EF/SK/TO/UN/UR in Red Vintage w/Oak interior for $24,935 invoice & $28,187 MSRP. Bottom line, Grappone was $117 over invoice, and offered the best trade on their 95 Corolla DX Wagon.

Here in NH, they were all willing to deal and it came down to the best offer for the trade. For the same options, Berlin City was at $193 over invoice, Autofair at $132 over, and Irwin at $0 over.

There was some discrepancy between Sienna's built prior to or after Nov 1st...those manufactured after Nov 1st supposedly having a $350 price increase.

Other than that, all were cordial and trying hard to "squeeze" another $100 here and there. Once they knew I hard facts from Edmunds for invoice figures and KBB for the trade, they all stopped talking sticker and started dealing! The process lasted only 2 weeks and ultimately saved $1,600 over the 1st offer!

Do your homework, don't give in and pit them against one another!

    Thank you Edmunds!

Have a dealer telling me invoice for a 2001 LE is 25124 with the extra value and LE upgrade package 1 with tow package and theft system. This is does not agree with the invoice figures I've gotten from Edmunds and Consumer reports. Dealer says those sources often get invoice wrong.
Dealer willing to unload an LE with the two above mentioned packages plus an entertainment center and tow pack for 26500.

Thanks to the info in postings #413,
I purchased a Sienna LE from Jerry Campbell
(925-381-8043)of Toyota Walnut Creek this afternoon.
They are having a special sale of 23,998 (with UN,TO,EF options) for LE
In addition, there is a special toyota finance with 3.9%/3yr to 5.9%/5yr
available until Jan 2, 2001. Jerry was very professional, and pleasant to talk with.
The price excludes tax, license and document fee (document fee is $45).
Jerry told me that he still has several LEs on the lot, but the sales together
with the special finance will end on next Tuesday (Jan 2, 2001).

On 12/27/00 I purchased a new 2001 XLE Sienna. The price I paid was $25,800 that included freight. The dealership is located in Tysons Corner, Virginia (Koons Toyota). The starting price was 30K + fees and freight. After some negotiating and many complements to the dealership, I got the price I wanted.

Although the Sienna is smaller than I thought, I think I have made the right decision. I'll be glad to share with you my battle "plan" to get a good price.

I am shopping for an 2001 XLE - found a demo with 4000 miles - sticker is 32,000 - I got them down to their invoice of 28,800. I was pushing to get below invoice.. sounds like you did. I walked out when I couldnt get them below invoice - maybe that was unrealistic.
this van had package #3 plus leather, bumper guard. .

    any suggestions?

I'am looking for the best deal on a 2001 Sienna LE. Does anyone know if the dealers are offering the 5.9%-5year financing on the Siennas too? I had a dealer tell me today that it was only on the camrys. I'm really looking to buy tommorow before the deal is up. If I can't get it on the Sienna then I might buy a 2001 Camry LE V6. If anyone has any good info on where to get the best deal from their own experience I would appreciate it.
    Thanks
  • mrsigmamrsigma Member Posts: 3
The XLE packaged I bought does not have leather seats, sunroof,6 disk CD, power side doors or the entertainment system. If the demo you looked at has all that for closed to $29K, it may be well worth it.

My advise for you is that you pay a visit to another Toyota dealer in your town and get a best price for the same vehicle you looked before. You will be surprised on the price diference which could go either way. Make sure you mention the "other" vehicle when negotiating a price. I have found out that for most of the time a dealer will much rather give you a "good deal" with one of their vehicles than letting you go to their competition. They need to know that you are doing your homework and that you consider yourself dealing within a buyers market rather than the way around. I did it many times and always being succesfull.

I read the newsgroup - and checked
    the TMV for 12/28
and finally broke down and bought a 2001
CE drive out for $25,500. i had called
another dealuer ship and wanted to pay 25K
driveout they did not call me back. although
they were advertising for 23K in houston without
mentionng the model. taxes were around $1700.
the ven had CE extra value pkg and S1 security
    package.

    1) i know that i paid 5% approx for the dealership,
in houston toyota dealerships are obnoxious.
some of the sales guys dont even want to talk
properly once the find out that you are buying
    on price or informed.

    2) they offered me extended warranty from Toyota for $1150 for 5 yr/75K? whether this is worth it?

    3) where can i find cheap financing below 5% ?
the dealership offered me 8.5 % APR.
has anyone in houston got a better deal - its
too late now, just to inform others around me
if they want to go for it. thanks, happy new year

Last night we purchased the Sienna LE for 26484, price includes the UN,UP and TOW package(couldn't seem to get one without it). Also includes the video entertainment system, and cargo net. Tried to get the dealer down to 26200 but he wouldn't take it. Said he was getting only $24 profit, I'm sure this doesn't include his hold back. Also we got $500 free gas coupons over a year; not much but every little bit counts. Got financing of .684 from E-Loan which I discovered from one of Town Hall's postings. A little wary of dealing with an internet bank, but am pre-qualified with my credit union for .725. Did notice a little mark on the passenger side door when I got it home. Will speak to the dealer on Tue. Oh, yeah, purchase was from KOONS Westminster. Very nice sales lady "Jennifer". Deal took about 1 week complete. Sticker "Toyotathon" price was $29,397 down from 30,397. Took one week to get from 29397 to 26484. Car drives like a dream and the kids love it. Hope it lasts like my Corolla's. Just two weeks ago I was sure we'd get an Odyssey. Good Luck to all you deal hunters.

    Quickdeal,
I live in central NJ and am looking for a Sienna XLE. Can you tell me which dealer you went? I'm not in hurry. Thanks.
  • quickdealquickdeal Member Posts: 2
I went to Freehold Toyota for the test drive, James Toyota Outlet in Flemington was negotiating by e-mail with me (person's name is Jeremiah). Lawrence Toyota was the one I had phone conversations with (salesman's name is Joe Trany). Dayton Toyota was the one I ultimately bought from and the salesman's name is Joe Fiorino. The prices from James, Lawrence, and Dayton were all pretty close to each other. I was also going to visit Brunswick Toyota if I couldn't reach a deal with Dayton Toyota, but it turned out that I did...

Hope this helps. Good luck with your purchase.

Went today to view and test drive the selection of Sienna's. Found an LE with Rear Bumper Protector, Cargo Net, Towing Package, and the LE Extra Value Package. It seemed to have a sticker base that was way too high, and the Extra Value Package was priced somewhere around $1300, while Edmuinds lists it at 300-400. Dealer did have a 1000 deduction at the bottom, maybe this was the difference. Still stickered at around $27,727 or so. I'm planning on going in with a hard and fast target of $25,000, to see what he'll do. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Purchased a 2001 XLE with Tow package (UF), side airbags (BE), rear mirror w/compass (EM) XLE luxury package #4 which includes moonroof, dual power sliding doors, premium souind system (LL), and rear bumper protector (EF) with an invoice price of $32,811 for $29,820, or $3,000 off sticker. Got it on New Year's eve at 8:00 p.m., when everyone wanted to go home, and they were tired of negotiating, and wanted to make their last sale of the year.

I bought a 2001 LE SIENNA , with towing pack , keyless entry , roof rack , pwr heated mirrors upgraded cloth captain seats , cargo mats , upgraded JBL speakers , pwr sliding door , 5 upgraded michelin tires , rear bumber guard , with retail upward to $29,000 , I only paid $25,200 , I figure about $700 over dealers cost. Anyone can get a good buy , if you hold your bid , and get a dealer who is willing NOT to rip you off. All new cars are too high already , remember dealers are of service to you , not you to them
  • mrsigmamrsigma Member Posts: 3
What exactly is the Towing Package (UF)? Is it more power to tow or the towing hardware? Does anyone know?
  • thewolverinethewolverine Member Posts: 111
Per www.toyota.com 'UF' is a transmission oil cooler and revised cooling fan control logic.
From what I could tell looking to buy my 20001 XLE, ALL Sienna's (at least here in Southern New England) were built with this 'option'.

That said it's not too expensive (160 MSRP, 128 invoice) and probably does more good than harm especially if you're tough on your vehicle in the summer.

But whether it's worth 128 to 160 is a mystery - I have my doubts but its on my vehicle whether I like it or not. I made sure I paid nothing extra for it - ended up about $500 over invoice.
  • tgreen3tgreen3 Member Posts: 2
Hi, since I've used the input from everyone else I thought I'd add mine. I got an LE with TO, VD, UN, UR, EF, N1 as well as aftermarket leather and an entertainment system for 29,500. Thats just under 2% over their invoice and about 3,000 for the aftermarket stuff. It was about $400 under their "fixed" internet price.

The hard part was getting what I wanted for the trade-in. Edmunds calculator says my 97 acura was worth 10,546; NADA (which the dealer used) said 12,000; and Kelly blue book said 13,000. I settled for 12,500 and feel pretty good since the car had a couple cosmetic problems that might have made the 13,000 figure unrealistic.
  • bbeach3bbeach3 Member Posts: 1
I have been unable to locate a Sienna with Vehicle Skid Control without getting top of the line XLE with leather, etc. Why is that? Same story, dealer trys to tell me it is not a necessary option. How is VSC different from Traction Control and why wouldnt it be more popular?
  • tgreen3tgreen3 Member Posts: 2
I had a hard time getting vehicle skid control too. I ended up with an LE that had a couple things I didn't want - had to get UR instead of the UP I wanted, and I got stuck with N1.

Another dealer said the only way I could get VD (vehicle skid control) was if I got everything above plus running boards.

Anyway, you can find it but the dealer is always going to want to try and sell you what's on their lot.
  • 2muchmoney12muchmoney1 Member Posts: 4
dealers rely on US for their income , they service us , people PAY TOO MUCH AND , dealers tac on TOOO MUCH PROFIT , research cost , dealers are still getting holdbacks and volume rebates , the cost will surprise you , ITS LOW

I just special ordered my XLE and wanted to share with the forum the deal they offered me.
We ordered the Stratosheric Mica XLE with the following packages: BE, HD, LL, XL, VD, EF, and UF for $30,899.00. The only way we could get the side airbags and the vehicle stability control system was to special order. I called several dealers and no one had a sienna on lot with those two safety features on stock. Everyone said I would have to special order and so thats what we did. Apparently asking 3% over invoice is not a big deal to the dealers. Thats what were paying and I guess we could have done better, but oh well...the best part is that my husband and I are both in the military and were exempt from paying sales tax in KY and TN and so we saved $1400.
  • edwardh5edwardh5 Member Posts: 130
It would help if everyone puts the actual price they paid in $$$, not a reference to invoice, as there are many invoices, thanks.

Here is a strange one. I have 2001 XLE with moonroof with Toyota wind deflector. IT does a great job at reducing noice when roof is open. However, when roof is closed it make a racket with whistle wind noise that is non-existent without the deflector. So, I have messed with roof rack brace position and the deflector is anchored properly.
Any ideas or experiences out there? Would like to here from other XLE owners with this set up. Stranger is I had a 98 XLE with same configuation and no noise? I am ready to give up and remove this thing that cost me $60
    Thanks!

I am surprised that more Sienna LE's are not ordered with side air bags and Vehicle Skid Control. Salesmen I have spoken to have differing opinions. One criticized the air bags as not perfected and said there had been occurrences of them breaking women's ribs; one criticized the VSC as dangerous if you need to change lanes quickly. Others had no complaints about the features, and my internet research has not yet turned up much substantive on the features. Also, I thought, according to Edmunds, VSC only came with package HV, but others posting have said otherwise. Advice, please?

    Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping to find some CDN. advice here? I'd like to buy a Sienna LE (no extra options) and I'm wondering, what the CDN. invoice price is on this particular vehicle. Are there any dealers in Hamilton or St. Catharines, that are worth going to? Has anyone used carcostcanada.com?

    Thanks for your help!!
    Todd
  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
Since the Canadian market is completely different from the US, you cannot use the US invoice prices to accurately gauge the Canadian prices. For that, you will need to go to http://www.apa.ca (Automobile Protection Agency of Canada) and request the invoice prices. There will be a small fee ($20 or so for a non-member, I think), but if you're serious about the vehicle it may be helpful to you to know the dealer's cost of the vehicle and the options when bargaining.

    Best of luck!

I checked out the APA site. You get 2 invoice quotes for a membership fee of $54.00. 1 quote will set you back $20.00.

I'm going to go with Carcostcanada.com, it's $30.00 for 3 quotes. All prices are in CDN. funds

Thanks Again, and I'll let you know how I make out

    Cheers

I want a 2000 or 2001 CE or LE 5-door. I want information from anyone who financed thru Toyota. It looks as though a favorable financing rate will decide if I go Toyota or purchase Dodge. Because of the tremendous financing offered by Dodge we may have to do that unless I can get favorable rate elsewhere for a Sienna.

What types of rates are offered by Toyota or does anyone have any suggestions from other lenders?

    Thanks in advance!!
  • drockdrock Member Posts: 1
FYI.. Just bought a 2001 Sienna LE with only the Extra Value package and Towing package in the Charlotte NC area. I paid $24,000 even. Just about $100 over the invoice price listed on Edmunds. The dealer tried to tack on a $500 administrative fee to their invoice price. I told them no way. A big pet peeve of mine since they already charge a $300+ document prep fee.

It was a great experience though. They met our price quickly and got us through the whole thing including a good finance rate painlessly.
  • jacey1jacey1 Member Posts: 2
WHAT DEALER IN THE CHARLOTTE AREA? WHAT WAS YOUR FINANCING RATE AND WAS THAT PRICE AN OUT THE DOOR PRICE?

i NEED TO KNOW WHERE THE BEST PLACE TO FIND THE LOWEST INTEREST RATE. i'VE GOT A GOOD CREDIT REPORT

    THANKS

Marketers decide which options become more commonly available based on sales trends. It has little to do with the options themselves. Do you think Toyota would install side airbags if they broke women's ribs, and leave themselves open to a class action lawsuit? Well, check that - look at what Ford/Firestone did!

Anyway, here's my point: salesmen are the last people you should believe! Why wouldn't he bad-mouth side ABs and VSC when he doesn't have any on the lot? It's not like the dealer can install them, and he really wants you to buy from HIS inventory!! Your options are to wait for one equipped the way you like it to show up, special order (IF Toyota still does that/you'll pay more), shop other dealers, or insist he locate and retrieve the vehicle you want from another dealer (you should not pay for this service other that an earnest deposit that applies to the cost and is refundable at your request). Oh, and don't sign anything until your vehicle has been identified.

We bought our 2000 Senna EL last year and I do not remember what the rate was then. I shopped around at more than a dozen local lenders and on-line lenders and got the best rate.

When we were closing on the deal, they asked about financing and I mentioned my find. I told them they could have it if they matched. A few call later, they accepted.

You might want to try and just call around so you know what is available out there.

Last week we purchased our new 2001 Sienna LE in Long Beach, CA for $23,708 ($28,602 sticker).
    Includes the following options:
    Towing Package (TO)
    Side Air Bags (BE)
    LE Extra Value Package (UN)
    LE Upgrade Package (UR)
    Auto-Dimming Mirror (N1)
    Cargo Net (GN)
    Bumper Protector (EF)

As Honda devotees, we were leaning towards the Oddy. However, a test drive in the Sienna along with the split 3rd row seat, variety of options and the extra $1000 from Toyota there was just no comparison. Great Van. Our family loves it!

"Last week we purchased our new 2001 Sienna LE in Long Beach, CA for $23,708 ($28,602 sticker)."

The price you paid appears to be well below invoice and dealer withholding. Do you know why it was that cheap ?

Thanks for any insights into this !

ALSO: is it possible to order a Sienna with a very specific set of options ?

Purchased a 2001 Toyota Sienna LE this month equipped only with TO towing package, UN extra value package, UP upgrade package and PV permavin glass VIN etch. MSRP, destination fee, and all optional equipment was $27,716 bottom line sticker. This deal was inked for exact dealer invoice at $24,712 for a dealer mark-down of $3,004 or 10.84% off MSRP (dealer exhibited the invoice upon request) plus TT&L. A new 2001 Toyota Sienna can be purchased at a bargain (in this case, at actual dealer invoice) if one is willing to spend time researching cost, preparing for a negotiation, and walking away from the table if the terms do not suit one's needs. This was a good deal for both Toyota and this buyer.

One more point: If one is interested in a Video Entertainment System for the Sienna (Toyota's list is ~$1,399), a better deal can be had from a local Best Buy or a van conversion shop for ~$999 installed. Suggest purchasing an extended warranty for the equipment.

Check next post concerning a purchase decision for the Toyota Sienna v Honda Odyssey.
  • surfer7surfer7 Member Posts: 2
Check message #441 before reading this assessment.

The local Honda dealer wanted $24,340 (bottom line sticker price including destination fee) and an 8-week wait for the distinction of owning a 2001 Odyssey LX with no optional equipment. They were wholly unwilling to negotiate a brass farthing on the deal -- and many buyers pay full sticker price under the mistaken notion that Odysseys are in limited supply. The Odyssey LX is a nice van, true, but it has few valuable options that are otherwise available for a like amount on the Sienna. For example, the Odyssey LX is equipped with no CD player, no power door, no roof rack, no keyless entry, no daytime running lights, no audio controls on the steering wheel, no auto-off headlamps, and only a bare-bones limited warranty (3YR/36K miles). For a like amount, the Sienna is equipped with these features plus a 5YR/60K powertrain warranty. The Sienna's interior is more plush -- and the ride is smooth, quiet, nimble and responsive. There's just one minor drawback about the Sienna: it requires mid-grade or premium unleaded fuel whereas the Odyssey runs on regular unleaded fuel. Since the cost of premium unleaded in this locale is only $0.10 higher than regular unleaded, the additional fuel cost is ~$68 if one drives 15K miles (15,000 miles divided by 22 average miles per gallon equals 681 gallons of premium unleaded fuel multiplied by $0.10 equals ~$68 net additional fuel cost per year) -- a small amount for premium, cleaner-burning fuel which both improves engine performace and cleans fuel injectors. So why are so many van buyers yielding to Honda's arrogant price gouging for a van with fewer options and a shorter warranty than one can purchase for a like amount on the Sienna?

We have a '99 XLE, and have really loved it. We take frequent trips with two kids (3 1/2 and 2) and are seriously thinking about trading for a 2001 XLE with leather, heated seats, the dual zone auto climate control and the entertainment center (the kids are getting quite rambunctious)! Has anyone scored a great deal on a loaded XLE? My '99's worth around $21K, and I'd like to get close to invoice on the new one. I realize this isn't a sound financial move, but we just love the new toys!!
  • thewolverinethewolverine Member Posts: 111
I bought a 2001 XLE in the late fall with most of what you're looking for: LL(Luxury package including Leather), UF (Tow), EF, HD (Heated Seats), and BE - pretty much every major item except VD and the entertainment center. I paid $29,600 - $460 over the invoice posted here on Edwards. Of course that invoice is a bit more now than early this model year and last year.
I bought at Branch Toyota, Watertown CT - they also threw in a year's worth of free oil changes and a full tank of gas.

So far 2 minor complaints -
    1) Occasional Bass feedback from the stereo - I'm not the first to have noticed this on the otherwise excellent JBL stereo.
    2) Road dirt seems to be getting caught in the gears of the sliding doors - doesn't happen on my 98 LE - but that had running boards. Not sure if there's a difference in the side body cladding or what but I'll be discussing it with my dealer next oil change.

Otherwise looks great, drives great in sun, snow, freezing rain and gives me 23 - 24 mpg on Super Unleaded with max speed 65 to 70. Speeds above will definitely reduce gas mileage.

    Good luck!

Sell you van privately. I had a 98 XLE with leather and roof. The 01 is nicer overall with auto climate control, dual power doors, JBL sound, updated non sludge producing VVTI engine of 210 HP, new front end, tail lights, dash and nice 6 in dash CD player. WE also got running boards, and VES (video entertainment system). We really like the van and believe it is smoothest out there. The Odyssey was just too hard overall.
Ours listed for $35,600. Paid $32,000. It was absolutely loaded up.

Just took the plunge, my first minivan ever!

Bought a 2001 XLE with Towing package, Side air bags, Vehicle skid control, Heated seats, Electro chromatic rear mirror, XLE luxury package, and Rear bumper protector.

Sticker was $33801 and I paid $30326. I was very happy with the price and what helped seal the deal at this particular dealership was the trade allowance. First 2 dealerships offered me $8000 and not a penny more, plus vehicle price was $200 higher, ended up getting $9225 for the trade!

The only thing I can see the van doesn't have is the sunroof deflector, running boards and the video ent. system. We're going to check out the Rosen system. Anybody have a Rosen and care to give their opinion? Or should I go with the dealer installed system?
  • fischdafischda Member Posts: 272
wolverine, inky, meffaman sounds like you got excellent deals (better than I did on my '99 when they claimed the low supply demanded a higher price). Maybe I'll take the plunge, but I hope I can sell my '99 without difficulty.

inky/meffaman - what state did you buy in? I'm in Southwest Ohio.

I saw the rosen system in Best Buy - $1500 installed - but the 6.4" scren looked a little dinky. Probably okay since second row viewers would be close to it anyway.

has been great-picked it up late last year and have been very pleased with our selection. Honda Odyssey was also a consideration but: 1)Didn't like the hard/slab-like seats;Sienna seats are more supportive and comfortable. 2)Didn't like having to be on a waiting list or pay MSRP for any vehicle. 3)Didn't care for limited color selections or painted bumpers. 4)Overpriced options-like $800 to install towing pkg. vs. $160 retail option on Sienna. Plus I thought the Sienna handles and rides better than the Odyssey. I didn't have any problem finding dealers who would price out a Sienna at 3 or 4% over invoice-I think the Odyseey demand has them feeling a little price competiveness when someone comes looking for a Sienna. As for the video system, I wasn't too impressed with the quality of VCR or the console it was housed in; besides you know the next video system is going to be DVD players anyways. Plus $1800 for it on the sticker was a bit steep, so I bought a portable Steel Horse unit, which consists of a VCR, 6" monitor, remote control, etc. for $400. It is self-contained in a cordura nylon bag and easily mounts between the front two seats with velcro straps. Plus its portable; you can take it out of the van, use the AC adapter and you still have video at the campsite. I think for cost effectiveness and convenience, plus the fact that if you do after-market they probably have to tear out your headliner and some panels to install the overhead video monitor, makes the portable unit an easy choice.

We got a good deal (we think) on a 2001 XLE and enjoyed shopping at Fred Haas Toyota on the far north side (Spring).
We live in Pasadena and looked high and low for a dealer who would treat us with respect and who were professionals. Fred Haas was the place; it was worth the 35 mile drive for us!
