We used the 3% SAM'S CLUB discount at Planet Toyota, outside Chicago. They also were fair with my trade. The car should be here within 2 weeks -- it was in their incoming inventory.

The lesson here is find a big dealer, one who gets lots of cars and one who wants to sell a lot of cars. The smaller dealers don't sell as much volume, but they want to max out their profits.

Why do people continually spout this incorrect line of thinking? The most popular color of car in America is...WHITE. It is not harder to keep clean. Most vehicles look dirty because they show dust. Dust is not dark...it is very lightly colored. Black and other dark vehicles show this dust and look dirty very quickly. Despite what commercials show you, mud does not wind up on cars (or trucks) that frequently or easily.

White colored cars are not the same as white colored clothing or carpeting.

Shhhhh!!!! I'm going to be shopping for one of those "really, really hard to keep clean and nobody else should want one" white 8 passenger LEs very soon. It won't hurt if the dealers feel stuck with 'em!

I about fell out of my chair this morning while reading one dealers ad in "The Virginian-Pilot" newspaper which covers Virginia Beach, Norfolk, etc.

The ad gave the number of each Toyota model available and claimed "42 Siennas AVAILABLE"

Has the supply situation suddenly changed?

We owned a white Rover 3500. We kept it garaged. Washed & waxed often (got my father to loan me the car for dates if I'd wash&wax it - useful thing to keep in mind, as I'm within 6 years of my kids wanting to use the car). It always showed dirt. Maybe your white paint was different than ours. :-)

BTW, yes, there are others that show dirt/dust rapidly as well. My metallic green VW Passat also routinely looks dirty (parked in a city lot during the week or a parking garage). Even one day after wash & wax.

Wife's volvo wagon (and now Sienna) are both gold and look clean all the time (washed maybe once a month, waxed about twice per year) except during winter (salt & sand season). My understanding is silver is also good at looking clean routinely.

No, not a scientific study as to the cleanliness of car colors, but I've driven a lot of miles / different colored cars and IN MY EXPERIENCE, white was the worst. My metallic green (current car) is also not so great (got a good deal on the "on the lot" vehicle).

Did know one person who had white furniture & carpeting (no kids, pastic covers on furniture - yes PLASTIC - iccckkkk!). That was a while ago (mid 70's?).

I believe that some dealers use the word available somewhat loosely. That probably counts their entire known allocation, and quite possibly vans at other dealers (that they theoretically could trade for). I doubt they have 42 just sitting around on the lot waiting for you to take them home.

I thought I had negotiated a good deal at the local Toyota dealer...an LE with leather, option #4, a hitch and mats... out the door for 30,000. Now an out of town dealer offered 29,482, out the door with free delivery!! Luckily I have not signed anything yet. Do you think if I wait even longer they will give it to me for free? Deciding to upgrade from my Volvo 240 wagon which is pushing 300,000 miles was tough. NO MAJOR REPAIRS on the old gal...It kills me to give her up but she has been making some "odd" noises. Luckily I have the luxury of being patient as she still works fine.

We got our 2004 Sienna back in May. It is an LE with package #7 (VSC, Trackion, Passenger side sliding door, 3-row side curtain airbag, day-time running light, 4-wheel disc break, etc) plus wireless headsets, carpet, cargo net, first aid kit, sill protector, etc. Our out the door price including sale tax was $29K. We purchased it in San Francisco.

Do not magically appear on dealers lots. They are allocated to them, so these dealers that are telling you they received an "unexpected" shipment of them are full of baloney. Stores that advertise "42 available" don't necessarily have them on the lot either. Advertising could mean they have "access" to 42 (which in reality every dealer has "access" to all the regions vehicle pool).

I have been dealing with one local dealer for LE-7 with LE package #7. They offered me $1500 off MSRP. And I responsed them $1800 to see what's happen. I still have no idea how they can do it while others are asking for MSRP. Also, anything that I should know because I have trade it my '00 Odyssey? I haven't done any trade it before. Thanks for the inputs.

Dealers can take off whatever they want or do not want to from the price. Basically, where we bought ours from they were taking orders only and had no Sienna's on the lot. They had 42 on order that were already sold. Dealers that are merely brokering the deal are more apt to drop prices than those that carry inventory. I heard a salesperson telling a customer they were taking 1k off a CE, 1500 off a LE and 1800 off of the XLE.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
My dealer just emailed me with only $1500 off on the LE-7 with LE pk #7. I think this is very good deal in MA. And if I order it now, the delivery time will be around Thanksgiving. Is it too good to be true?
  • kmeadkmead Member Posts: 232
My own deal is for 1200 off and I am pretty satisfied. Go for it.
  • racewalkerracewalker Member Posts: 20
I have had 2 dealerships make me the following offers for a XLE AWD with package 17 (MSRP $34,875.00):

Charles Baker in VA Beach, VA - $33,660., and
    Wellesley, in MA - $33,200.00.
    Both were out-the-door prices.
After several weeks of negotiating and working out the details of the purchase, I contacted Charles Baker to accept their offer and they informed me they had made a typographical error and the real price is MSRP. I was very upset!

So, then I contacted Wellesely, to accept their offer, and the salesperson informed me that they could no longer offer $33,200., instead they wanted MSRP. I was even more upset!

    What is happening?
Do I have any recourse against these dealerships? I feel that they offered a price and then realized they had other customers willing to pay more, so they withdrew their offer.

What should I do differently, if I find another dealership willing to give me something off MSRP?

Feeling frustrated and decieved in VA...
  • vaeagles1vaeagles1 Member Posts: 28
Well - as a fellow virginian, I feel your pain. As a lawyer (who is not licensed in virginia), I can tell you a contract requires both an offer and acceptance. They made an offer and you did not accept, instead you shopped around. Though you did not technically say no to their offer, you did not accept it either. This is treated as a rejection and the offer is basically revoked.

Try Bobby Murray Toyota in Rocky Mount, NC, they will work a good deal for you.

    Sorry and good luck.

Any great dealers for the Sienna on Long Island. Millenium Toyota in Hempstead Long Island has the worst reputation.
  • rodc1rodc1 Member Posts: 36
You may not realize it but you created your own problem as vaeagles1 stated. First problem is you weren't sure of what price or what product you wanted before shopping. If you were prepared the time to make an offer and complete the deal on a product in very short supply is NOW while you have an acceptable offer on the table. None of this 2-3 week negotiation(ie. shopping). The moment you show up a few weeks later wanting a good price on a highly sought after product it's pretty easy to deduce you couldn't get a better price. Now that you know what you want and at what price do the deal immediately then you will find out if the dealer is honest or not. Unfortunately a hard lesson to learn-do things faster next time.

My dealer got back to me and said they will consider a further discount. It is now $26061 for LE, FWD, 7-seater, LE pk #7 and floormats & door sill protectors. The delivery time will be in December. I am still wondering the deal while others are insist MSRP. And I will be the dealer this weekend.

Also, is anything that I should know about the trade in? I plan to trade it my 00 Odyssey. I have the estimate used car value (the lowest) from Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book. Will they change the deal on the Sienna even I have everything in writing (emails)? Or lower the value on the Odyssey? I haven't done any trade in before. Thanks for any inputs.

The price can be "locked in" so to speak. All you need to do is before you order the vehicle MAKE SURE you get a copy of the worksheet with all the options on the van, and the run down of the figures(selling price, tax, title, dealer fees.. the whole 9 yds) signed by the salesperson and the sales mgr. Your trade WILL depreciate a few dollars between now and december. Thats to be expected, but not several thousand $$. Here we have to agree fully on the figures and the variables before we will even place an order, or take a deposit to make sure there are no unexpected "deal breakers"!!
  • impact01impact01 Member Posts: 95
Try to sell your Ody yourself once your Sienna is allocated by advertising in Autotrader or the local newspaper. I am sure you'll be able to get a much better price. I also think, you will get your LE real soon. In the mid-atlantic the supply of LEs and XLEs are now "Good" according to buyatoyota website. One dealer seems to have more than 10 LEs on the lot as seen in their inventory.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
Thanks all. I probably trade it to the same dealer. I need to transfer the same plate and I have no time for people who want to test drive my car. So I guess it doesn't matter if I mention trade it after signing the paper works or until the allocation.

    Hello to everyone.

I am negotiating a deal on a Sienna LE and want to get some assurance that I'm not getting raked over the coals.

LE with option package #1, floor mats and window tint.
Total cost of $25K before tax, tag and title.

I was having such a difficult time getting any money off MSRP at all that I just picked a price and told them it had to include all of their fees.

Anyway, that's the offer as it now stands....

What do you think? Please give me your feedback.

    Thanks,
    Jackie

I ordered my XLE front wheel drive on 9/6/03 and it came in two days ago. Ordered package #14 with tow hitch and a few other accessories and paid $3,200 off of MSRP. Thank you Menlove Toyota in Bountiful!!!
  • impact01impact01 Member Posts: 95
It looks like your pricing is about $700 below MSRP and it may be a good deal depending on other factors (where you are located, how soon you want the van etc. - Only you can prioritize those).

    Hi,
Right now we are minivan shopping and no way can we afford a 2004. Anyone know if dealers (or anyone else) has leftover 2003's that they want to move? What would be a good negotiation on price for those? thanks!

On an LE with leather, tow hitch, option #4 and (of course) mats...out the door and delivered to my door for 29,480. Thank you Gettel Toyota in Bradenton. The local dealer wouldn't budge..Gettels is 2 hours away...very professional and courteous so far...and delivered to boot. Delivery is on Nov.25....hopefully.

How are you guys getting so much off the MSRP? I am in NJ and most dealers say "no way" to any discounts. They say that they have more buyers than cars.

I have offered to be in within an hour and pay cash. It doesn't help.

I have called 6 local dealers and told them I want an XLE. Most have said I have to pay MSRP. 2 have agreed to take 500$ off if I either buy one they have (Of course they only have "1 that a deposit was cancelled on." Yet each day they find another.) Or I agree to wait 4 to 8 weeks (to get the color I want) and give a $2000 non refundable deposit.

Lastly, do you recommend the rearview mirror that dims for $199 or not?

Thanks for any help you can give.

I put $1000 deposit for a XLE limited with pkg#6 ( Nav and DVD...)CF, and Artic Frost Pearl color on early September. The price is $37,016 without tax and license fee. The dealer (Palo Alto Toyota) will split half of the registeration fee (since California tripled the car registration fee on 10/01/03)which is roughly $1100.00. I was told the car's build date is 10/9/03 and I probably will get the car by the end of October or early November. Is this a good price? I did not shop around too much.

Jerryc8 ...I do not know the invoice of your van but try Valley Toyota and Modesto Toyota both are doing around 1500 above invoice. Worth a try and I have heard good things about both. E-mail me for more info.
Jcarroll4....that is too much, in my opinion. Try Rice Toyota they can get you a better price. E-mail me contact person info.

IMO, supply is fast catching up in the mid-atlantic. (e.g) Darcars have ~40 Siennas in their three dealerships, Fitz has about ~17 mostly in Gaithersburg, carmax has about 7 etc. The numbers are comparable to thier highlander/ 4 runner stocks so I would expect the dealers to come down from their high horses soon!.
  • kklotzkklotz Member Posts: 19
I ordered my XLE with Option Package 16 on June 24. It finally came in October 14. I got caught up in the fuel tank recall, but the dealer told me the wait was still long if ordered today. Out the door the van was slightly over $34k; the MSRP was $35.5k. Purchased from Stevinson Toyota's internet sales department in Aurora, CO.
  • vaeagles1vaeagles1 Member Posts: 28
impact01 - I believe you are right, the supply in the DC area is definately increasing. Last month I was told by a CSR at United Buyer's Service that they beleived the supply would be greatly increasing in October and November. Also, if you check the buyatoyota.com site, and click on the LE's, it shows the supply is excellent.

I was chatting a salesman the other day and he grudgingly admitted that the supply should also continue to increase over the next month.

So, I still believe the dealers locally are not willing to budge, but that should change in the near future.

Just took delivery of an XLE Limited. I found this board quite helpful, so here are my suggestions for those still looking to buy.

After calling and e-mailing a lot of dealers in the LA area, most were asking for full MSRP, a few Internet managers were offering $500 of MSRP. I finally got $600 off MSRP. Finding the vehicle I wanted was the hardest issue.

If you know the model and packages you want, and Sienna's are hard to find in your area, my advice is to call up as many dealers as you can, and ask them to check their allocation lists (Toyota calls it A-status) for anything they have coming in that has the trim/packages you want, ask what the production date on it is, and when they expect it in -- then put down the refundable deposit.

It took about 3 weeks for my car to come in. A bunch of Sienna’s came in at the same time at different dealers, so by playing one off the other I got it down to the $600 off MSPR.

Wanted to get your thoughts on an offer from a dealer I just got. They said $28,500 plus TTL as only additional costs for an 04 Sienna FWD XLE with package #3 and carpet mats. What do you think?

If you have done your homework, you would see that $28.5k for XLE with pack #3 in the current market is a good deal.

According to Edmunds, the invoice is about $27.1k and the TMV is $30.6k. In the D.C. area, the dealers are now just beginning to come off of MSRP. But, there are not alot of XLE's around. You could wait a month or two for the supply to increase, but that is an uncertain bet.

Don't fall in the trap of an earlier poster, you get a good offer, you shop it around and then you go back and the offer is off the table. When good offers come by on high demand vehicles, you need to move quick.

p.s. does anybody know what it means when a vehicle you ordered is in F status?
  • impact01impact01 Member Posts: 95
F stands for Freight I believe, so it is in transit (or ready to be loaded on to a truck).

well that is funny. hey, i bet the person that brings it to their attention gets treated really well..

something caught my eye: i noted std (details page) are (2)115V power outlets. Can someone explain. Does this model come with a built-in invertor or something like that?
  • impact01impact01 Member Posts: 95
The 115V Power Outlets comes standard with the factory installed DVD that must be part of a LE package I think.

CLE Limited with limited pkg 3 (GW) -- sticker is 35,466 with floor mats.

My other advice is to print out all those Toyota option codes from Edmunds so that when you call the dealer and ask what's on the allocation list and they say, "a limited with GW -- but I don't know what that is" you'll know the answer.

It always amazes me how little the salepeople know about the cars they sell.
  • jerryc8jerryc8 Member Posts: 6
    Hi:
Thanks for your info. I did call Modesto Toyota, and their price is $1500 over the invoice as you said in your post. The person that I talked to was straightforward about the price, no this and that. Looks like the price I got from the dealer where I ordered my Sienna is the best price so far if they keep their promise. There is no signed contract, just a hand-shake and verbal agreement and of course, my $1000 deposit. Happy shopping everyone. jerrc8

Ok, friends(vaeagles and rodcl), I've learned my lesson about taking too long to accept on offer and am trying to jump on my latest offer.

The dealership and I have agreed on a price for my XLE AWD,#17 (5376 with GK), with a spoiler thrown in for "free". I'm pleased with the offer, $1500 off MSRP, out the door (not including TTL). I'm not ecstatic, but I'm tired of spending so much time on getting a car.

I requested an estimate on delivery, and haven't had much luck getting anything concrete. In response to my latest inquiry, the salesperson's latest email stated "This will take a little while. What I have to do is put it close to the top of my preference list. Once I get an XLE AWD , I can put it up for the color and package #17 to get it allocated. I can't tell you a time, but as soon as I can get it."

What do you think? Is this enough info to justify placing an order? What info regarding allocation and build date should I be insisting on? What should I get in writing?

    Thanks in advance.

No bird-dogging for referral fees, even if you ask to do it via email. And if you are a dealer, don't ask people to email you either. Thanks,
