not as silly as this question --
you got your warranty from KC Summers I believe.
was it a genuine Toyota warranty? identical to the one you would have if you bought it through your dealer?

Thanks for all the good information posted.
It was a very exciting few months, learning and searching for a good deal.

Since time is money too, we decided to order one rather than waiting for our lucky day.

We signed a buyer's order on a Desert Sand Mica XLE Ltd AWD with HO, FE, Z1, HP & DK (manuals, free). The cost was $39,314 + 6% PA Tax (on the balance of the purchase after trade-in) + $125.95(T&T transfer). If we decided to not to trade-in then the T&T will be higher (for a new plate).

MSRP $41,453/Invoice $37,175 (includes TDA $512 if the invoice on Z1 is $174 as KBB lists, the dealer told me that the TDA was $412 and the invoice on Z1 was $274)/Purchase Price $39,314 (half way in between)/$500 non-refundable (except as permitted by law?) deposit

The Dual Port Hitch was not added as it does not have 2" type-III receiver port.

It will be 8-12wks for delivery.

The 7yr/100K/$0 ext warranty was offered at $890 but will be negotiated further later.

I had two ext warranties, one for 2000 T&C AWD and the other for 98 Subaru Outback. For T&C, the purchase was the money well spent (fully recovered the cost+ during the 75k coverage) but for Outback, the purchase was at best the even (for the 75k/6yr coverage). Considering the Toyota quality, I am wondering if the ext warranty will be beneficial or not. I will get one though since the vehicle has lots of components that are expensive to fix and since the warranty covers up to 100K.

I saw that too and wondered...

I have it in the car for now, but I don't think I'll need to carry it with me yet? right?

nickles - All indications are it's real Toyota as if i purchased it from my dealer.

ohres - My advice is to get it...
  • petroniopetronio Member Posts: 18
I read it the same way as heywood. My mistake!

Can't opine on the price as I did all my shopping for the XLE AWD, which is harder to find in that trim level.
  • weedshastaweedshasta Member Posts: 85
I of course have not seen the one I would have gotten from my dealer. But the Warranty I received from K. C. Summers says "Toyota Extra Care" at the top left, and "Platinum" at the top right. Below the word Platinum are listed Year, Make, Model, Vehicle ID, Selling Dealer, and Dealer Phone. Since you can buy the extended warranty from any Toyota dealer, it should be the same for all.

Put the deposit on XLE AWD Limited with HE and floor mats. Invoice 34921 . Got for 36000 (3% over invoice). Multiple dealers giving this price. Funny thing is that some dealers in the same area only want to give at retail price.
Next step is to search for extended warranty.
  • lookseelooksee Member Posts: 8
You pay sales tax in the state where it is registered. Doesn't matter where you buy it, only where it is registered. Delaware charges 2.6% (I think) and PA charges 6%. You need a valid DE address and it must stay registered for 1 year to benefit from the lower sales tax. No dodge there, be happy you only have to pay 3% in VA.

What dealer did you decide to go with ?
  • porcaccioporcaccio Member Posts: 18
Well, I just purchased my Phantom Grey XLE FWD with package #19, Carpet Mats, Auto Dimming Mirror, Cargo Net and Rear Spoiler for $33016 +TTL. That was $500 over invoice. The dealer showed me the true Toyota invoice that broke down Advertising, Wholesale Financial Reserve and Holdback (the actual invoice on that vehicle is like $24K before they start adding options and that other crap).

My price was $500 over invoice. For anyone looking to get an XLE LTD FWD with HO, Freeman Toyota in Santa Rosa has one. I was quoted $35342 ($500 over invoice) on Saturday, just after I purchased the non LTD version.

I also want to thanks those who pointed me to KC Summers Toyota. I've bought my warranty and my maintenance plan from them. I also referred a couple of friends!

    Thanks again.

    Davenow,

    Thanks for your advise.
I will get one when I pick up the van.
  • ohresohres Member Posts: 46
The purchase reported in #3868 was from Philadelphia region.
It looks like that it is still sellers' market. Over the past four months, the situation on the availability of the Ltd AWD van was not improving at all.
  • weedshastaweedshasta Member Posts: 85
What did K C Summers charge you for the maintenance plan? Did they give you individual quotes, or did you get a package deal with the extended warranty?
  • michelle1michelle1 Member Posts: 8
Last month I bought a Sienna in Missouri but I live in Texas. Got home, got the taxes paid, titled, etc. Went to put the window sticker on and it said to put it above the inspection sticker. That's when I realized I didn't have an inspection sticker. I assume it's because I bought it in MO and need a TX inspection sticker. Do I have to PAY to go get a brand-new van inspected??? Or do you think I could go to a local Toyota dealer and get one (if they'd even be nice enough to do it for me since I didn't buy it here??)
  • porcaccioporcaccio Member Posts: 18
Weedshasta, I paid $630 for the 4yr/55000 maintenance plan. The prices were separate. We called the local Toyota dealer and the 15K and 30K plan are $249 and $349 respectively, so, when I added up all the oil changes and such, it made sense.

It did NOT make sense at the $1200 that my dealer wanted.

The deal was separate from the extended warranty. There was no "package deal" offered. I am still happy with the prices, though. Hope that helps.
  • porcaccioporcaccio Member Posts: 18
Michelle, when I moved to TX briefly, I had to have my car inspected. Inspection was less than $20 at a Jiffy Lube. I think that you might be stuck with doing it. Hopefully, your Toyota dealer won't charge you.

Using the Toyota website, I located a dealer (internet dept.) in West Springfield, MA quoting a blue mirage metallic XLE LTD AWD with HE package (DVD), rear spoiler, mats for $37,682. MSRP is 40,090. I live in CT and the best I could do before this quote was sticker to about 1000 off sticker. Any other dealers anyone can suggest to do better? Or, is this is good as it gets? I don't think waiting til August (end of model year) will make a difference. Thanks!

    Hi,

We are looking to purchase an XLE Package 12 or 14 ASAP. Wondering if anyone could recommend a dealership in Southeastern PA or NJ.

Looks like from Edmunds based on my zip code the TMV is not much off the MSRP. We are hoping to do much better than that.

    Thanks.

Anderson Toyota in Rockford, IL. 1000 over invoice from Edmunds invoice. For some reason the invoice KC Summers was quoting was 500 more.
    Thanks for the advice
  • farazfaraz Member Posts: 9
Anderson Toyota in Rockford IL had a blue XLE AWD Limited with DVD till a few days ago. I booked a similar vehicle from them for 36000.

Just ordered CE7 with package #2 (AGAT). The price is $22,300 + tax + doc fee + tag fee. Will have to wait for a couple of weeks. The buying experience is pleasant. Walked into the dealership, offered the price, waited, insisted that it was the final price, and deal. Can't wait to see this new baby!

We bought our Sienna from Central City Toyota in Philadelphia. It was a great purchase experience - found car on their web site and was given a e-mail quote almost instantly. They gave very fair price for our trade. The purchase transaction went off without hitch - car was super clean and paperwork ready when I arrived - sign and drive - out in less then hour!!!
The location and age of their showroom may not be greatest - but they were wonderful to deal with.

Thanks for the info, porcaccio #3880. I checked under Maintenance on Edmunds. It looks like the larger service milestones are at 30,000, 60,000, and 90,000. The rest at 5,000 mile intervals are under $100 each - mostly just oil changes and labor for inspection of other areas. Edmunds estimated cost for through 15,000 miles is $290 and the plan you quote is $249. Edmunds estimated cost for through 30,000 miles is $661 and the plan you quote is $349. Edmunds estimated cost for through 55,000 miles is $1122 and the plan you quote is $630. So it looks like the longer the plan you get the better deal you are getting. Does anyone have any comments about these maintenance plans? I know you could get the oil changes at quick lube places and then have the 30,000/60,000/90,000 check ups at the dealer and save some money. But I guess the advantage of going to the dealer while you are under warranty is that they can take care of any potential problems they may spot. Also with a maintenance plan you are locking in the price today. And I am assuming that no matter where you buy a maintenance plan, it is honored at every Toyota dealship?
Another thing is that I only drive about 10,000mi/yr. So if the 55,000 mile plan is capped at 4 years, in that time I will have only gone about 40,000 miles. My cost would have been $840 so not quite as good a deal but still OK. Any thoughts?

Make the drive up the PA Turnpike to Motorworld in Wilkes Barre, PA. I just bout an LE7 with BW, N1, RB and WH from them last week. I contacted every dealer in the Philly area and Motorworld beat the best price I got by about $1000.
  • porcaccioporcaccio Member Posts: 18
Weedshatta, I misspoke. In looking at recommended service intervals, there are oil changes at every 5K miles. However, there is a first intermediate inspection at 15K miles which costs $249 (confirmed with the service department). There is also a major inspection at 30K miles which costs $349. That is where my costs broke down. Then, if I include 9 oil changes (11 in 55K minus the 2 that fall during the inspections), even at 30 bucks a pop, we are looking at another $270. That easily puts us over the $630 that we paid for full maintenance.

It is the Toyota Maintenance plan, and is honored at all dealerships can't wait to use it at the dealership that sold me our Sienna.
  • farazfaraz Member Posts: 9
Can you tell the dealership and city where you got the service plan.
    Thank you

I just ordered an LE w/ Pkg #7 (curtain airbags, VSC+TRAC, rear disc brakes,de-icer,daytime running lights) and pref accessory (cargo nets, mats) for $26,328, basically $750> invoice - this includes the $850 "TDA", which the salesman broke down as roughly $519 destination + $330 Toyota dealer marketing (or something like that). If I add the extra TDA charge the Edmunds TMV would be $28,200 (just a few hundred $ under MSRP). CarDirect guaranteed price was $26,342 which I used in the nego - basically they gave me the CarsDirect price.
The board was helpful, especially linking me to CarsDirect and having seen an explanation of Toyota's "TDA" or addl. destination charge.
Dealership was Butler Toyota in Indianapolis.
      Thanks!

I'm wondering if an extended warranty is warranted in our case. We typically drive 25,000 miles or more in one year. This means that within less than 18 months, our basic warranty will be up. I've looked at the extended warranties that Toyota offers, but the max milleage caps out at 100K miles, which would be about 3 to 4 years in our case.

Given the amount of miles we drive, I suppose I should be less focused on how many years of protection we get, especially since it's the milleage that's important, not so much the years.

I'm also tempted to get the pre-paid maintenance plan as well, but it's kinda hard to swallow the up-front cost right now.

We've had the car 5 weeks now, and have put over 6,000 miles on it. I had it in last week for it's first oil change and tire-rotation.

In the news (again) today was this article:

    Are Extended Warranties Warranted? (SmartMoney)

    and from our site:

    Prepaid Maintenance Plans

Steve, you may want to consider removing the link to the Smart Money article on extended warranties. Readers are directed to check out Warranty Gold as a potential source of extended warranties. While the author speaks favorably and unfavorably of Warranty Gold they did not mention that Warranty Gold is in liquidation nor did they indicate that bankruptcies are a pitfall to consider when considering a provider. With the amount of traffic on Edmunds' warranty town hall regarding Warranty Gold I am surprised you did not catch this.
I got burned by Warranty Gold and don't want anyone else to get burned as well.
The link for the maintenance plans is good, thanks.

I have a standing search for news that mentions Edmunds and this one flopped up again. I like the article because it mentions some Edmunds people and points out the pitfalls of warranties.

We should tell the author about the problems with Warranty Gold though; that'd make a good update.

    For those wondering, see:

    "Warranty Gold" Claims

    and
    Warranty Gold Customer Now Happy!!

If I were in the market, I'd try to get one backed by the manufacturer.

Edmunds used to partner with 1Source, the other warranty company mentioned in the SmartMoney article. Then we partnered with Warranty Gold. Now we partner with Warranty Direct.

    From the FAQ:

"Edmunds.com has accepted advertising from a number of providers of extended vehicle warranties. Our advice is to look at a number of providers and compare." link

    Did you check AutoFair, NH?
They had a Ltd AWD/HE at about $2300 below MSRP about 10days ago.
  • ohresohres Member Posts: 46
    You may check Conicelli (Conshohocken).
I cannot say whether they are good or not since I did not check their reputation or service record but their offer on a Ltd AWD was better than others in SE PA region.
You may check all the others in the region since the dealer response will be quite different depending on which model you are looking for. Good Luck!

Weedshasta, I have the same issue. I drive less than 10K miles per year, so I'm not going to save nearly as much with a prepaid plan as someone who drives more miles and goes in for service more frequently. It actually is going to be a main negotiating point when I see what I can get it for from my local dealer. I figure if I have to pay much more than $600 for the 4yr/55K plan, given that I'll have gone about 32K in that time, it won't be worth it. I suppose I can always fall back on the IL dealer mentioned on this site to get it, but I also don't know for sure if a local dealer would honor it and it might be better in the long run to pay as I go. I'm actually researching that now and finding that service prices for dealers in my area vary widely.

Whether I use a prepaid plan or not though, I do plan to have all regular maintenance done at a dealer, more to protect the warranty than anything else. In the past I've had a dealer refuse to cover something that should have been covered under warranty because he claimed that non-dealer work had caused the problem.
  • hotch41hotch41 Member Posts: 61
Ohres, thank you for the suggestion. I'm going to call them to see if it's still in stock. If not, at least I'm confident that there are legitimate discounts out there! The dealer you suggested is only a 2 hr. drive from Hartford. If you or anyone else come across dealers that post their best prices on their websites, please let me know! Thanks!!

I am looking for a Red XLE w/ #14 package in the Washington DC area.

I was wondering what people paid in the DC area.

I have checked a couple of dealerships and the best deal I have found so far is Fitzgerald. Any one in DC doing better? They tend to be $1,350 OTD over invoice.

I was someone who praised 1SourceAutoWarranty.com as a affordable choose of extended warranty ($1,079), but there is no way they could touch the 7yr/100,000mile/0deductble at KC for $795. Thanks for those of you who have helped me save $284......

    Sienna36:
FYI: I am a very price-sensitive shopper, and not dealer-loyal. I've probably purchased a dozen Toyotas in the last ten years, and no more than two from the same dealer. I only buy from dealers who will do business over the phone, and I also prefer to buy from dealer inventory.

Here are my most recent impressions & places you might try:

Diehl Toyota in Butler- Small dealership where I bought my new XLE-AWD. I've had good experience there and my deal was very fair for a high-demand vehicle like the Sienna. They're not a really high-volume dealer, so they're not always the lowest price. But my van was on the lot and was EXACTLY what I was looking for, including being my first color choice. Also got the 7yr/100K/$zero warranty for $800. If they realize you've done your homework, you'll be treated fairly. I can give you the name of my salesperson. I would especially recommend Diehl if you don't have a trade, as they have a reputation for low-balling.

I had a good experience with Baierl Toyota in Cranberry. I negotiated a new Tacoma for my father over the phone.

I've also purchased from Toyota Youngstown (OH), and whatever the dealer in Erie is now.

I would avoid Airport Toyota. They are VERY high pressure, and I've never been able to get a competitive quote there. Although they have a good website, and usually have good inventory.

I bought my Tundra from Krebbs (now Davis) Toyota on McKnight Road. They had at a fairly large selection of Siennas when I was looking, but none in my preferred color choices, so I didn't get a price.

I have no experience with the dealer in Monroeville, but I know it's large.

I've noticed several Siennas on the lot at Mel Grata Toyota in Hermitage (Sharon), PA, but have never purchased anything there.

A friend of my bought a Sienna from Rohrich in downtown Pittsburgh, but I think he paid close to MSRP (to be fair, it was June of '03).

There's a dealer in Morgantown, WV (I can't remember the name, but you can see it from I-79). They always seem to have a large inventory.

A longshot: Allegheny Toyota in Franklin, PA. I bought a new Landcruiser and two Camrys there in the late 1980's, and a Tacoma in '96, but they haven't been competitive on a quote since. Might try 'em anyway.

Hope this is somewhat helpful. Good luck.

Please check out my post about my parents purchase of a 2004 Sienna in Post 3442. That was at Toyota of Greensburg. The other dealer that impressed me was Washington Toyota. Good luck to you. Both of these dealers were decent to deal with.

    Hi folks,

I've been a long-time, die-hard Honda/Acura loyalist, but the safety features on the Sienna have won me over from my planned Odyssey purchase. (I've already got an '02 TL-S -- I can't bear the thought of having TWO potential transmission timebombs in my driveway!) I have had bad luck price and availability-wise with Austin dealers however. I'm willing to travel anywhere in Texas, OK, ARK, or Louisiana to get an XLE somewhere in the general vacinity of invoice +$500 -- $800. Any suggestions on dealers, maybe in Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio, would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased an XLE with pkg 12, DVD, and carpet mats for $100 over invoice at Bohn Brothers Toyota in the N.O., LA area. The internet sales manager was extremely easy to work with. He mentioned that he has had people from other states come to buy from them. I think he said one guy from Florida bought from their dealership and was not able to pick up the vehicle, but they were able to deliver the car to him for an extra $200-$300. If you can't find anything better in TX, it may be worth a shot. Initially, we thought it might have taken 6 - 8 weeks to get the car once we ordered it, but we got it in about a week.
