    >>>Tires on the XG300L were not Michelin's and had some gaudy looking after market chrome wheels on it. Motor Week's review says alloy rims; wonder if this is some new wheels? Are pictures reference by "yk911" standard equipment in Canada?

no.. i'm saying they might be the 16" wheels soon to show up in show rooms..

the canadian version wheels are different..(korean Xg 2.5 spec wheels) where as the american version gets the korean xg 3.0 Spec wheels..
it sorta resembles the Bentley wheels..

    >>>>Anyone car to explain benefits of 16" vs 15" tires and wheels?
going to 16" wheels = lower aspect ratio... abit more handling and feel for the road...but not much of a difference...16" tires are more expensive...but 16" wheels just look bigger... people are complaining about the 15" wheels b/c they look ugly(in North America) and every other car maker has 16" wheels on their cars..almost.

    yes.. michelins are standard... 205/65/15
the chrome wheels that you saw were probably ones that the dealer slapped on to get more $$..

Like all great things in life (life beautiful women and fine cigars), you have to properly take care of the leather over the life of the car. My '96 Impala SS's leather seats look brand new. I keep her out of direct sunlight, use sun shields, crack windows, wipe of spills, and periodically clean with a recommended cleaner/conditioner. Do things like this and your leather will look like new for nearly ever, except for natural wear from weight/pressure. Leather is easier to clean up after!!! So far no problems in my '00 Sonata GLS w/leather seats!

For what its worth, on Advertising Fees. I purchased my XG from a Dealer, in Ohio, last Thursday. When I checked the Window Sticker I saw the name of another Dealer that was located approx. 40 miles away. I ask the salesperson about this and was told that the other Dealer needed a vehicle that they had in stock and they often make a Trade. While alone in the vehicle, checking it over I found a crumpled up piece of paper under the pass. seat. Checking the paper I found this to be a bill from the other Dealer, for this vehicle. My Dealer paid the other Dealer the invoice price, for the vehicle. This price was $26.00 less than the Invoice price shown on Edmunds. The paper work did not show any Advertising Fee of any kind. I drove two different XGs and noticed a slight difference in Throttle response between the two. The one I bought was a little sluggish. The checked everything on the Computor and everything was set to the correct perameters. Anyone with a similar problem??
  • john0john0 Member Posts: 17
I've noticed the same thing on being a little sluggish but I've narrowed it down to it to this.
It only happens after the wife drives it for a couple of days then I drive it and it's cold. After driving it in a stop and go situation and it warms up then it's fine. Somewhere I read (maybe here or one of the articles on the XG ) that the transmission has some sort of intelligence in it that it learns how you like to drive. Maybe the simple solution is to tell the wife "hands off the new toy" and drive the old car.

Heard back from our distribution manager. The 16"wheels/tires keep getting set back. The earliest we COULD see them is now late June, but I wouldn't look for them now until 2002 model year.Production for 2002, at this point,is due to start in September, meaning they won't arrive in the U.S.until late October. No word on any new colors, options, etc. Bob

after the XG300 becomes a household name..... we'll be seeing this car afterwards...(only with different wheels)

(i see a lexus type of thing coming..)

I too used the Edmunds pricing to make an offer on my XG300L. I called several dealers in three states and they all, EVERY ONE, told me that my offer was actually under their cost. To be fair, I had not accounted for the cargo net in the trunk, the wind deflector, and the floor mats. I believe that I paid as little as is possible in my area yet I paid over the Edmunds TMV. While I strongly object to this fee, the dealer showed me his invoice including a $600 fee for advertising. The ad fee is used instead of just adding to the price of the car outright so that the dealers can deduct the advertising fee from their income tax. I ended up paying $23,7?? which was exactly $200 over the invoice price. This fee does differ from region to region and in some areas without advertising may not exist at all. Again, I held the invoice in my hand and can confirm this fee (like it or not). Having said this I have to conclude that the Edmunds price (as well as the price on similar sites) does not really reflect the actual dealer cost. By the way, other manufacturers (Toyota at least) charge similar fees.

I only have 1250 miles on my L model and each day I seem to discover something new. Today I set my light switch to the auto position. This turns on/off the lights depending on the outside lighting conditions. I'll just leave it on all the time and forget it. Unfortunately, my check engine light came on today. Apparently, despite my best efforts, I did not tighten the gas cap sufficiently. I tightened the cap and the light went out about 50 miles later. The dealer says that this is normal. Still loving the car but am fearful of getting a ticket as the car really moves.
  • yk911yk911 Member Posts: 130
hmmm.. canadian models don't have the auto light switch function... = (

do you guys have day time running lights?
  • john0john0 Member Posts: 17
US Models do not have Day Time Running Lights. Thank GOD !!! I don't know if it's me or what my Jimmy has them and I don't care for them for some reason.
As for the Check Engine Light, I was advised when I took delivery of my XG that when I got gas to make sure that I hear at least 3 clicks when tighting the gas cap or I would get the check engine light.
I have about 1500 miles now and all is well so far
most driving is local stop and go. One of these days I'll have to get onto the PA Turnpike and crank this puppy up just to see what it can do.

Read in another place that they are having financial problems. Tried to look for info over at yahoo finance and saw Hyundai NC. took a 15% hit in the market today. But couldn't find any reports as to their stability. Has anyone heard anything recently?
  • yk911yk911 Member Posts: 130
this car has been in production since 1996 in Korea and other parts of europe and australia.. don't worrying about reliability problems..

Do you still have any of the EF Sonata pics available anywhere? Somebody would like a peek on the Sonata forum but we can't find them at FX since the change.

to yk911 for the new link. And thanks for all the great pics. I really liked the ones with the two new White EF's in the countryside. I'm glad I saw them when I did as I can't find them anywhere now.
    Cheers.

Rmellis, In post #311 you mention Hyundai stock taking a "hit". I have been unable to find any action on Hyundai stock. Have tried HYMLY but it shows no trading for quite some time. Please post the symb. and the exchange it can be followed on. Thank you.
  • john0john0 Member Posts: 17
Yoon, your turning me into a Hyundia nut with all these pictures of the EF. Now I want one of those too to go along with my XG. That EF is a heart grabber just like the XG. Now all we need is a two door hardtop of either the EF or XG. Move over Honda and Toyota there is a new player in town........
  • astrolastrol Member Posts: 312
so much! You are a real friend and obvious Hyundai lover. Can you tell me if the EF's are 2.5 or 2.7? The guy you helped with these pics in the Sonata topic is in disbelief about the looks of this car. What the heck will Honda and the like do to compete? I know the Camry is being restyled as we post.

I'm really psyched for the XG restyle and I just know you will get your hands on a shot of it before anyone else does. Thanks again.
  • yk911yk911 Member Posts: 130
by the look of things... i think 2.5

    http://www.hmc.co.kr/down/data_file/529_New05.jpg

i think hyundai still hasn't realized that everyone in north america wants more power...

who knows.. by the time the EF-B sonata hits our shores we'll get the 2.7 in the engine bay.. lets just cross our fingers..

This is what I've been following. However, I haven't been able to find the symbol for the automobile division.

Rmellis, Thank you for the stock info. If I find the auto symbol I will post it here. I have a "feeling" about this co. Thanks again.

Just wandering if anyone can help. I've had my XG for a couple of weeks now and have previously written about throttle response. I've noticed that under light acceleration,in the Drive mode, the car is in third gear by the time I reach 20 mph. This does not happen in any other cars I've driven. Of course heavier acceleration will delay shifting to a higer speed. This quick shifting causes a stumbling feeling. Is this normal or should I make arrangements to take it back to the Dealer? Any input will help. Thanks
  • yk911yk911 Member Posts: 130
no problems here... how do you know you are in third gear by the time your are in the 20 mph zone?..

your computer must be relearning your driving style?
  • gesgrsgesgrs Member Posts: 5
In answer to your question. I can feel the shifts and to make sure I moved the gear shift over to select drive and can see the (3) positon is lit, on the dash. I just feel that I should be shifting into second at around 20 mph, under light acceleration. As I stated this early shifting gives the feeling of a stumbling or hesitation.
  • sobright1sobright1 Member Posts: 78
I have not noticed the stumbling you described but I will admit that the acceleration takes some getting use to. Perhaps, with the fuzzy logic, the system needs to get use to me too. Though it is a relatively small problem, I am speaking of the tendency to suddenly accelerate after just a bit more gas is applied. I am having a difficult time smoothly accelerating from a standing start. It reminds me of a two stroke motorcycle that has just gotten on its power band. All of a sudden after just a bit more gas the car really goes. I guess to be truthful this is a slight imperfection that does tend to put a smile on my face but I am afraid I am soon to be ticket bound.

I keep finding new features that I did not know I had and grow more fond of my purchase every day. I sat on the fence thinking about this car for several months listening to everyone tell me all the reasons why I should not buy it. I am certainly glad that I chose to do my own research and ended up with such a great automobile.
  • yk911yk911 Member Posts: 130
if you selected Drive.. the light on the dash board should be on D... not 3 as you have mentioned... you have the shift-tronic mode selected (+/-) if the 3 is lighting up.

when shift-tronic(h-matic) mode is selected.. it won't automatically shift up unless redline is reached on your tach, but will shift down automatically 5-4-3-1
    when coming to a stop....
  • gesgrsgesgrs Member Posts: 5
I must have mislead you in my post #328. You had ask how I knew the transmission was in (3) third gear at 20 mph. I was in the drive mode and at 20 mph pushed the shift-tronic to the right and observed the light telling me I was in third gear. Hope that clarifies it. Don't get me wrong I love this car but was curious if what I'm experiencing is normal or if an adjustment was in order. On older cars you can adjust the cable, on the throttle linkage, to the Transmission to adjust shift points, but with all this computor controlled stuff, who knows. Thanks to all for the input.
  • yk911yk911 Member Posts: 130
    i must try that..
  • yk911yk911 Member Posts: 130
yes... you were correct.. it does stay in 3rd...
but i think you'll get used to it... it's not hesitation or anything.. either our cars have a real short 2nd gear due to the TCS.. or something else.. i can't answer..

on the same note.. on the hwy.. if you mash the throttle.. it won't kick down that fast.. i guess that's why the Shift-tronic is there...

Just a word to the wise for all XG owners. Had mine for the past two weeks and today while going over somethings, on the car, I decided to check the Air Pressure, in the Tires. The car has the standard 15" tires and found that each tire had 60 Psi. (cold). After checking the label, on the Drivers side door and confirming that the pressure should be 30 psi made the nec. adj. I'm writing this post because there may be some persons, at the dealerships, that were confused and put the 60 psi that is stated, for the spare. Just letting everyone know in case this happened to you.

Has anyone installed a remote starter to there XG? Had one installed but currently have a problem. The check engine light keeps coming on. There is no set time or weather that makes the light come on. Been to the dealership numberous times but the light is still coming on.The dealer has only had two cars with the remote starter in it and both are causing the check engine light to come on.Today the car goes back to have the remote starter disconntected, would really not like to lose the remote starter but starting to seem like only option. Any help will be great.

Heard from my parents that "Live! with aegis and Kelly " did a "luxury car" segment today relating to the New York City Auto Show, and featured the XG300 in comparison with a Mercedes, Jaguar and other(s)? Anyone see it? Sounds like they said the XG compared pretty well, especially for the price. (wow)

I Now have 1500 miles on my 300L and still love it. What a great car and what a great bargain!
  • john0john0 Member Posts: 17
Sometimes you find out silly things that car makers do. Like the valet key on the XG. This is suppose to keep the guy who parks your car out of your trunk where you have all that extra cash you saved when buying the XG. But the remote trunk release on the door still opens the trunk and he's going to make off with your cash. Got to place this in the category of electric trunk pulldowns.

Well, after a week with the XG300L, I'm liking it more and more. One oddity: there is no real 'dome' light and the nicely focused map lights in the front are all that come on when doors are opened. In particular, the rear reading lights don't come on when opening the rear door - it's quite dark in there! Anyone found a way around this?

I saw a posting reading that we are going to see 16" Wheels. Does any body know when???
That is the only thing holding me back from purchasing this auto. I am waiting for the wheels.
The dealers keep telling me that they know nothing about it, or That I won't see them for about a year.
If any body has any more info on this please let me know. Thanks

the dealer where i bought my car from offers these 16" wheels for 1900 cnd... yes.. expensive.. but it's from a dealer.. so i can't say anything...

    here is the pic..

    http://www.yk911.homestead.com/files/blk_wheel.jpg

sorry about the green tint.. i took this pic inside my car as i spotted this car on the road..

and yes... i'll take a pic at the dealer next time..

    as for 17" wheels..

    Bolt pattern = 5 x114.3 mm

offset = 40-42 will do fine.

    width= 7 or 7.5

as for tires.. if your going for 17" tires..

    235-45-17...

    225-45-17 will work too..

as for my 18" wheels.. here is a pic..

after slapping on some nice wheels.. make sure you get an alignment done. .as putting on larger wheels will throw off alignment( in terms of camber...) even though the car will go straight.. your tires are going to get bald on one side..(tires are expensive..^_^)
