So I talked to my dealer today again. he says my car has been pushed back to week 26 production because of a shortage of the AWD transmissions. Sounds to me like my car will be delivered at the very end of July or early August now.

So I asked my dealer what he's going to do to make it up to me? He laughed and said my deal is as good as he can do. So I ask if he'll throw in wheel locks. He says sure. He was already going to toss in mats, so this isn't a big stretch.

Now that I'm off the phone I think I am going to bug him for a discount on the alarm too. I mean, throw me a bone here, I'm looking at a three month wait for this car.

Man, it had better be worth it.

just spoke to BMW NA today. They said my car is being moved from VPC to South Carolina tomorrow, where it will be put on a truck to Texas that same day. He expected arrival at my dealer as early as this Friday, and not later than next Tuesday!!!

Have you thought about searching for an existing car on a lot that may match or come close to your specifications? Most dealers can do searches for existing vehicles (across different states even) and trade for a car you want. Just an option if that two month wait is just too unappealing. You may need to compromise on a color/option, but it may be worth it.

Hey Man.....I feel ur pain. I ordered on March 28! Its over 2 months already!! Expecting June 20 delivery (11 weeks!!!!) So, hang in there, I am sure it will be worth it. You are not alone in this waiting torture phenomenon!!

Come on, man. You can wait it out. This is YOUR car that YOU ordered to YOUR specifications with the deal that YOU handled. If you have another vehicle, then you shouldn't have a problem until then. My car is leased and I can only put on another 700 miles until sometime in the first week of July...hopefully. If you went through all the effort until now, you can wait an additional 2 weeks to a month. I myself have to stay away from the boards for awhile just to keep my sanity...of course, I have to catch up later all at one time....

I am about to order a 2002 330i BMW for overseas delivery. We will pick up the car in early November (I know a terrible time to see the beauty of Germany) and I'd like to know of your experiences with BMW and the entire process. First, how long and how "enjoyable" is the actual delivery day... drop-off procedure? Any hotel recommendations in Munch? We'll be in country for about ten days, any "do-not-miss" suggestions... hotels etc? What questions or particulars should we address before we finish negotiations... before we leave... while we're there? Any info you're willing to share would be greatly appreciated!

    Than, tan in Houston

I ordered on April 7th and am expecting delivery on June 15th. I thought that my wait was longer than most others I've read on this board since I'm on the West Coast. The wait was absolute torture, but I feel as if I've finally come to the home stretch. BTW, did you negotiate an alarm into your deal? If not, do you intend to?

Hello, my steel gray 325xi is my first new car. I don't know what car care products to buy. Any recommendations on wax, car wash, wash mitt, wheel cleaner, ect. ? Pacific BMW sells BMW car care kit for $49.50. It includes wheel cleaner, car shampoo, sponge, chamois cloth and wheel rim brush, all stored in a sturdy BMW bucke. Anyone here bought it? Tons of thanks in advance!
  • emilykemilyk Member Posts: 49
I just went through an extensive research of car care products myself. I've read that Blitz Wax is pretty good for German finishes because it is made of carnuba wax instead of polymer waxes, which tend to leave a haze on the finish. As for a car wash, the P21S Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo has been highly recommended. For wheels, P21S' Wheel Cleaner Kit was also recommended to me, but most people feel that soap and elbow grease will give the same effect. I haven't heard of the BMW car care kit. What brand of products are included? I think that $49.50 is a bit much to pay for a kit that doesn't include wax, but that's just me. You could piece together a good kit with wax for around the same cost, unless you're really interested in the BMW bucket.

    drstan,

I am also considering Euro delivery - but will probably go with a 530i. I'm surprised in checking out this 3-series board that there aren't more buyers going the Euro route. Especially given some of the long delivery times I am reading about. It's apparantly much more popular for 5-series buyers. Check that board.

The best advice I can give is find a dealer that will negotiate the Euro price. I did. You could potentially get a 330i for $1,000 UNDER U.S. invoice. For example, I could get a 330i 5-speed, sport package, moonrooof, xenon, metallic paint for a total of $33,100, including freight. That's a $37,860 list car ($34,140 invoice). Not bad.

I know of several dealers that will negotiate substantial discounts off the Euro list price (and others that say it is an absolutely non-negotiatble price) Shop around and check out the web site www.eurobuyers.com.

    Good luck.

The products in the BMW car care kit are all BWM-branded. There are a lot of car care products, including those recommended to you, on carcareonline.com. I didn't know what to choose. I just found out the products you mentioned are carcareonline.com's favorites. I think
    I'll try them. Thank you.

yea well, the waiting times have been very unpredictable.
I think in my case the 'sapphire metallic black' exterior caused the delay. Its a very new color, not many people are ordering it and I still havent seen it in flesh: not at any dealer nor on the street; even on Edmunds, if u see the color specs under the 3er, the new colors are N/A...dont know what that means but i am sure my exceptional delay is related to the color choice!
For exterior finish I would go with Zaino only!! The results are dramatic......check out the Trans am (I think) @ www.zainobros.com
No, the alarm is a bit too expensive to be 'thrown in' i think...although in less busy markets it may be a possibility. I have asked my dealer to give me the best price (installed) and then i will take it from there.(alternative could be to buy from circlebmw and get it installed).
i also need a glove mounted Nakamichi 6 disc changer....any idea what/where is the best price.
    cheers!!

I feel your pain, man. I'm still waiting for my car. According to the dealer, my car was due in the US port on Sunday. I should be seeing it on Friday or the following Monday. Argh. The wait is killing me. I ordered back in April. (325iT/SP/heat/xenon/moon/leather)

Oversteer. I remember driving my old Mustang GT. That thing was a wild drive. The fastest way around a corner was usually tail out, heart in your throat driving. Since then I've been in an Integra. While very neutral for a FWD, it understeered at the limit. It'll be nice to step back into a neutral RWD with the option of tightening the corner with oversteer!

Euro delivery: Do it if you can. One of my buddies did it and couldn't stop smiling for a month afterwards, even with the wait for his car in the states. Just realize that the spots tend to fill quickly, although it shouldn't be bad in November. I just came back from France (flew through Frankfurt but was unable to change my car to Euro delivery in time for my vacatiaon). You've GOT to drive your car on those twisty small European roads. Ever see 'Ronin'? Those roads are something else to drive on...a true joy, even in the little Peugot 306 1.6 I drove there!
  • uge123uge123 Member Posts: 100
    Just an addendum about Europe.

Although the Peugot was a great handler for a front wheel drive car and quite peppy even with a 1.6L 4, I kept getting blown away by those BMWs and Audis...especially on the highways where they passed me like I was standing still and I was driving 100mph! Yikes! You should have seen the Bimmer's come around the switchbacks in the Alpilles of Provence like they were straighaways! I was green with envy and wished for my car even more!

I don't think it's the exterior color that delays, shortage of paint sounds weird, shortage of parts are more understandable. I order my Sapphire Black 330i on 2/27, Car was built on 3/13, arrived Southern California on 4/17. Was denied in attempting to modify my order by adding Trunk Pass Thru. feature on 3/02 because the build process has already started.

Rumor has it that glove box mounted CD changer has plenty of problems because it takes CD one by one, so I went for the Trunk mount version. Besides, interior storage room is very valuable for 3 series, I don't want to sacrifice that space for marginal convenience.
  • veekay1veekay1 Member Posts: 180
Hey! How do you like the Sapphire metallic color? What is ur interior color? How hard has it been for you to maintain it?
Also, do you have any pics?
What did you mean by saying that "glove mounted CD changer takes CD one by one"? Dont they all?

I have only 20k and have rotated about umm 3 times and im getting close to the wear bars.

If i read you correctly u have 26k on the original rubber, do you ever balance if u dont rotate ? what tires did u get delivered with ? I had the Turanza ER30 .

I was recomended the Dunlop Sp 8000, and saw the new Yoko Parada today , wow what a wild tread pattern.

Kleen wheels, if you read that annoying sticker on your windshield before you rip it off, it states do not use brake dust covers.....

I'm 13-17 time zones away from your discussion so I may be posting when you're sleeping, and vice versa. Anyway, I can hardly disagree with the comments of macdude, platypus, braveheart, overall. Yet, I think there is something to be said for coupe colors vs. sedan colors. Or. Blue definitely is my pick for sedan, and topaz less so. Black interior in an or. blue? Is that not too dark, and too hot in the Summer? I do like the aluminum trim in the black, however. For a coupe, which I plan on getting, I'm less convinced. Silver over black is good but so many already and distinction is nice. I see Topaz and I envision a blonde behind the wheel, or maybe a guy in his mid-twenties. Steel blue is definitely feminine. For the interior, I would like to see a pigskin (baseball glove)color-- a rich brown-- for seats. I saw and dark green M3 with such seats and it was hard not to admire. Oh, and no one mentioned red interior? Any one for red?

You read correct, I have 26K miles on the original rubber. My car was delivered with Michelin rubber (sorry, I cannot remember which model) from the factory. My best guess is that I have not even worn off half of the tread, as a result, I suspect that I will get well over 50K miles on this set.

As an aside, I remember reading about some new rubber compound that Michelin had developed that had the ability to stick to a dry road like soft racing rubber, allow for good traction in wet/ice/snow conditions AND offer long tread wear. Given that I certainly do not drive like the little old lady in the "405 The Movie" http://www.405themovie.com, it seems that I have such a rubber compound on my car. Indecently, if you have not seen that movie, HIGHLY entertaining.

denright: That is definitely some bad news brother. You know I feel the same pain that you feel. I'm glad we are in this boat together for some moral support. Although, being the messenger of the bad news, you should be killed. But then I would be too lonely. My dealer also promised me with 90% certainty that my car would be delivered by the end of June. I am really bummed about the whole thing. The dealer better throw me not only a big bone but the whole damn cow and the farm it was raised on. Or else my salesperson just may get a poor evaluation from me. Oh, and like the other people on this board, I want a free T-shirt thrown in, and an official BMW chamoise.

jnscheong: You must hate your little brother. Or else how do you explain the fact you are allowing him to consider getting an A4? You know those just aren't as good. I still think you're a double agent working for audi and maybe even for them ruskies.

Hi everyone. I'm looking to get a 325ci coupe with the premium and sport packages, and the Harman Kardan stereo. I have 2 questions:

    1. Does anyone know what lease payment I should expect in the Atlanta area for 36-39 months?
    2. A good stereo is important to me, and i have heard some bad things about the stereos in the 3-series. Are the standard and Harman Kardan stereos really that bad?
  • jnscheongjnscheong Member Posts: 66
Never crossed my mind to stop my younger brother from getting the A4. To each his own I guess. He feels that the A4 gives him more bang for the bucks. Can't argue with that! Besides, I will be able to check out the Quattro performance from time to time. :-)

With the discussions of over and understeer, it sounds like many of you have not attended BMW CCA's driving schools. If you like the handling characteristics of your BMW I can't emphasize enough to get signed up for one of these schools. The combination of learning how to handle your car (in the safe confines of a parking lot and a classroom) to the feeling of pure joy on the racetrack (did I really do that?) cannot be replicated on the street. It's better than sex...ummm, well, at least it lasted longer.

In the car control clinic you get time on a skid pad to induce and practice understeer, oversteer and throttle steering. You can try it with and without DSC and really feel what it does. In our school the instructors were fabulous and were always with you sharing their knowledge. Most important of all, safety is first and foremost.

Originally, I was very apprehensive about putting my $35,000 baby through what I thought was abuse. It really wasn't. And, as many say, it's the best performance mod you can make to your car. I drive better and in more control, even at speed, than I ever have before. And I've been driving for 30 years. If you think driving on the street is fun, just wait. Give it a try, you won't be sorry.

I need a little advise, I have had the worst possible experience with the purchase of my 2000 323i. I purchased on Mar 31,2001 through the Certified Program. After searching for silver I finally located one in Houston,TX at Momentum BMW. Their selection was unbelievable, their service has been less than desirable. From the beginning I should have known I was dealing with a dealership which did not pride themselves on honesty or customer satisfaction. The price they were using too negotiate was higher than the advertised price on the web site (which they quickly dismissed as a competitive price especially for the internet). In addition, I noticed a scratch or two which I was assured by my salesman would be corrected before taking delivery of the vehicle. What I later found out and what has caused me the most dissatisfaction is multiple scratches which are so deep, the only solution is to completely repaint various parts of the car at a cost in excess of $1600. Based on an independent estimate at the request of the dealer, the hood, trunk, bumper, quarter panel and roof all need sanding and re painting. The dealer refuses to make the repairs and at this point, we are in negotiations for a trade. In addition to the problems with the paint, a faulty blower (a/c) has been replaced, a faulty turn signal, license plate bracket, the key less entry is malfunctioning and the Cd player won't eject Cd's. My question, do I have any leverage? What should I ask for? At this point I want out of the deal all together, I want the dealer to pay off the loan, return my down payment and let me walk away, has anyone heard of this? other options? Maybe if they could come through with a comparable or more attractive trade I would be more inclined... Send me your thoughts, I would be very appreciative. Thanks!

veekay1: I too got the sapphire black for my 330i. I wasn't even looking at picked it up. It was Saphhire Black on black leather. I have every option including the Steptronic Auto/HK (free), Xenon, etc. It looks awesome near the evening as it shines. I like the color, but too bad I'm giving it to my girlfriend as I have too many cars.

rrue: You should re-review the contract you signed with them and if they said they would get the scratches out even after you took delivery of the vehicle, then they need to take it out. But, I doubt if it said that in your contract. Did you ever think about checking this vehicle out on carfax.com. It will show you everything about the car including if it was leased, been in a major accident, failed a smog, etc. I used this to get my Rx7 also

Demand total reimbursement for the car, and if they won't do that then settle for the downpayment if it was less than $500. I would not trust that dealership at this point and further business with them appears to be only painful. If they won't go for that than you can always mention the damage to their reputation which will occur once you broadcast on the message boards your problems with that dealership! Talk to the manager, president, whatever they call him there, if that does not work. Beyond that, perhaps get a lawyer, which may be cheaper than the repair costs it appears you likely will incur if you keep the vehicle. Good luck!

    Rrue:

Hey man! Feel bad for you. I would get out of this deal ASAP, take a minor loss if I have to, but get out fast!! No point dealing with them anymore. One point: If this is a certified car, all repairs should be covered, right? Or am I missing anything?
    Good luck!

I asked this yesterday but didn't get any response, but do chrome tailpipes come with the base 325i? If not, would they be readily available at the dealership? Otherwise, can I get an opinion on any other dealer options that may be worthwhile, ie trunk mat. Thanks.
  • veekay1veekay1 Member Posts: 180
    jason:

No, the chrome tail pipes are only reserved for the 325i (as is the chrome shadow trim, around the windows). However, the dealer has them, just let them know in advance, so they can have it ready for you. You can also get the chrome 'shadow trim' installed for about $800, but the pipe is better velue for money.

I found a round piece of rubber and plastic on the driver's side mat last night when I was getting out of the car. It seems that it was a piece that goes behind the clutch on the wall to bounce off it or mark the end of clutch travel. Well, that and the coin holder all one day - hmmm, I don't know. My Mexican-built Jetta did not have problems like this for at least 50-60K miles but my German-built car has had two at 1,800 miles. Of course, I'm at a point when I'm so hooked on the driving dynamics of this car that I would not trade it for anything else even if all the plastic and rubber pieces fell off. Just as long as the suspension, steering wheel, pedals, shifter and seat are still there :o) Oh, and it seems that I missed a lethal bomb from an F-16 that must have been sitting there for a few days on the trunk. It ate right through he clearcoat and into the paint.

On the fun side, I smoked an MB S430 into my favorite S-curve this morning. He was in the fast lane entering the curve when he saw me coming from behind. He punched it and tried to run with me but Shtroumpf Muscle took the outside gracefully and exited the corner about 10-15 mph faster. The MB driver tried to catch up but never came close and then traffic swallowed him up. You'd think anyone should know by now not to try this against a 3-series...

denright - Sorry to hear about your long wait. On the plus side, they must be selling the XI's very well if they cannot schedule them for production immediately.

Alp - your Kleen Wheels megaphone stuff got me into listening to the Wall again - I have plenty of time during my daily commute, as I spend about two hours in the car. I must be very biased because this is one of my all-time favorite albums but I thought it sounded very good on the H-K system. The subwoofers are good for something at least.

    By all means, do it!

See my posts #2424 and #2425 for an extensive write-up and pictures of my Euro Delivery experience.

drstan - You will probably spend between 1-2 hours at the delivery center. The drop-off process was about 30 minutes. I don't know where you're located, but I have an excellent sales contact in the DC area, if you're interested. I purchased from him even though I'm out-of-state (Texas).

For a hotel in Munich, my recommendation would depend upon how long you're going to stay there and if it will be before or after delivery of your car. We arrived a day prior to delivery and stayed in the town center (Marienplatz). Town centers in general are a good idea because you can usually just walk to all the sites/restaurants/cafes. If you don't plan to explore the center of Munich, then the hotel Jedermann is an excellent choice. (about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station)

Does the MB C320 have much in the torque department? Would it give you a run for your money? I don't think it has an option for a manual, right? I've seen quite a few of them on the road lately in Dallas.
  • platypusplatypus Member Posts: 192
Tanin red is great, but belongs in a roadster. I considered it for my sedan until I saw one in person. It looks great when you're in the front seats, but when you turn around and look at the back seats (this would apply to coupes as well), there's just too much red IMHO. I know that I would quickly tire of such a "loud" interior color. For a roadster though - different story.

I share your taste for a rich tan color, such as that found in Ferraris. I believe the E46 M3 offers such a color called "Cinnamon." Maybe it will be offered for the rest of the 3er lineup in '02...
  • brave1heartbrave1heart Member Posts: 2,698
"Black interior in an Orient blue? " - You are right - it does get very hot and you should consider this if you think it would bother you. If it is 70's and above, sometimes I roll down all the windows and the moonroof before I drive off - you know that's a useful key feature, right? As far as black being too dark - no, I personally am perfectly happy sitting there in a black hole. The black 'ette matches the door inserts and dash very well and I've only heard praises about my interior. BTW, I do not have the aluminum trim (not an option on black 'ette) - I have the high-gloss black trim which someone thought looks too 80's. While I can't argue with that statement either, I still like it a lot. And I'm the kind of guy that rarely wears black clothes... One more thing about aluminum trim - finger prints and stains are a lot more readily visible on it as compared to black trim. As far as the other interior colors, here's my take for what it's worth. Sand is too yellowish for my taste - I like it more beige-ish as in the A4. Our A4 is black ext./beige 'ette int. and it looks great IMO. I can also see how that sand interior would fade unevenly over time and it would not be a pretty picture. Red is intriguing but simply too risqué for my taste and out of place in a sedan (roadster would be much better). The gray interior is a shade too light and it looks too cold for my taste. It would still be my second choice, though. Another nice thing about black, BTW, is that it is much closer to charcoal gray than black and it also has an interesting bluish shade to it - it may be a weird reflection from my Orient Blue exterior, not sure. To each their own. I personally am perfectly happy with my color combinations and would not change a thing.

Oh, there was a steel blue 330ci that caught up with me yesterday. The driver was (should I say of course?) a blonde around 40 and she was making her way through traffic gracefully. I had the feeling the 330ci would easily pull away from me and I noticed she was driving a manual. I was going to try and run with her but she took an exit and I never had that chance. I think I was better off that way because she had the car and the determination of a driver that would not let me get away with a checkered flag.

People actually pay this for shiny chrome? That's some seriously nuovoriche waste of money. It's fine if it comes standard but I can't believe the dealer would offer it at that price and people would buy it.
  • brave1heartbrave1heart Member Posts: 2,698
The C320 is rated at 7 secs flat (auto only), just like the 3-series manual. It's 200 lbs heavier but has 215 HP and 225 torque so it would probably come out ahead. Unlike the IS300, I think the C320 would be transferring HP to the wheels a lot more efficiently and would be faster than the 325i manual at speed. Handling-wise it doesn't come close, though, although it is almost 10 grand more than my 31.5K 325i.
  • veekay1veekay1 Member Posts: 180

What's this "shadow trim" I keep hearing about? Where, exactly is it? My 330i has chrome trim around the outside of the side window silhouette, but I thought all 3ers had this? Or does the "shadow trim" refer to something else?

burrsr - the 325i does not have chrome trim anywhere around the side windows.

I recall some brief posts about the new Subaru WRX w/ 227 hp. My co-worker just bought the wagon. It looks sporty in a "Hot-Wheel"esque way. Not too bad, but the hood scoop, a-la-Hoover, looks out of place rather than aggressive. To boot, the interior is pretty sparse, and I hear that the shifter is ropy and far from smooth, unlike the E46's butter-like gearshift. If I was 23 years old, the WRX would be something I might consider. I'm sure it's fun to drive (will find out soon, if I can convince him to let me take it for a spin).

It's most likely faster than my pending 325Ci, but as we talked about before, there's so much more to a vehicle than 0-60 times. Maybe it's unfair to compare the WRX with the 3 b/c of price. You get SO much more from the 325, even if it may be slower. The real question is, "How do you feel when you drive your E46?"

Just called BMWNA and they said that the finished production today (Status 155). I asked him for estimates on expected arrival dates cos I'm trying to arrange financing and he said late June maybe. Btw, AAA is offering 5.99% rates. Since our cars are in the same production line I bet they're both sitting in the finished area awaiting shipment to bremerhaven! That made my day.

My neighbor just bought a dark red WRX sedan, its butt ugly, but that scooby doo gives it a fearsome stance. I keep hoping to bump into him in the evenings when he gets back so that I can ask him if he'll take me for a ride.
