This is the only kit I've seen for the Intrigue
Razzi Intrigue Kit
me enought to have it looked at, but might next time, as it seems to been corrected
in several cases here. Only other problem has been two visits, once each to fix a
rattle in both rear doors.
Replaced intermediate steering shaft
Battery died, replaced
Replaced crankshaft sensor because of engine hesitation / almost stalling
Fixed the migrating trim along the tops of the front doors (twice)
Tightened the shifter handle
I'm at 15.5K on my 2000 GL now. No warranty work at all yet, (although I have the headlight-flicker alternator problem. I'm just keeping an eye on it for now.)
Had the flicker once when it was about 30 below zero in January. Never saw it again but I will monitor it again this winter. I hate going to the dealer so I will put it off unless it becomes a problem.
I was here last Jan, but got a great close out deal on a new leftover 2000 max Se 5speed. So far we have had 1 problem, the engine 5 speed throttle mapping which was fixed with a computer program update.
My question on this board I've read a lot of posts but wondering if
1. the alternator problem was finally addressed and fixed
2. has anyone heard if the 3.5 will be in the Gran Prix or other GM car?
3. any resolution to the front end issues, or do folks just lube the jounce bumpers and live with it?
Neither the Maxima or the Intrigue are perfect cars for us, but we enjoy the size and build quality of the Max. Yes, it could be prettier but it grows on you. I'd like to see GM put that 3.5 in some other cars. I could not belive they put that wheezing 3.4l in the new buick SUV. Gm is really struggling - no wonder they are thinking of getting 3.0 honda motors. A buick van thing woudl be nice with that 3.5 - I'd have to consider that to add to my ugly car collection (g).

Unfortunately, this engine will be phased out in a couple of years when GM finishes developing the new series of 90° V6 engines. At least that's what I read somewhere...
I liked its styling in pictures, but liked most its 240HP 3.5 V6. I'll surely check it out then!
;^)
3.5L production ends in 2002. If you want the engine, buy an Intrigue soon.
GM is not thinking of buying 3.0s from Honda. Where did you hear that? Honda will be supplying an unspecified Saturn with engines in 2004, but I doubt it's the 3.0.
Oh, the shame of GM... The shortstar surely could have been tweaked up to 240. A higher compression ratio, and a little more valve lift might be all that was needed.
Maybe this could be some benefit to other owners..I drive fast but my brake useage is mininial and my driving habits are the same..
I began to realize that the tightening of lugs was the cause when I had new tires put on the 96 Caddy about 5k miles after a very expensive brake job in Fla.. Cadillac replaced the original chrome wheels; so at 48K I had the Michelins replaced; the Caddy dealer had the local tire shop mount the new tires and new wheels. I took the car in and all they did was install he new setup..Within a couple months I drove the car back to Fla and noticed the steering wheel wobble; way to early for that..The dealer is screwing up the rotors and they admit--no torquing tools..
The give-back every year is a ball, and one of my last contracts I got involved in was 5%/yr each of the 4 years, selling Canadian product priced in US $ with no exchange protection..Present time it is a money maker but it can flip/flop quick..
Any steel castings used in rotor material??? Carbon or alloy???
The auto business is becoming a brutal game, and I am baling out soon..It's not fun like the old days..
How has your Intrigue treated you????
Article
Somebody on this forum bought a Maxima recently and was asking if us Intriguers were still a jolly bunch..I don't have any complains; but maybe tommorrow I will change my mind..Front end is still noisy--but at 49k of rough housing who cares!!!
My deal with Olds was I pay for the first one, and the second one is free!!! If you do it enough, one gets it right...
I've got 18,800 miles on my 2000 GLS with few complaints to register. I still get the rumbling sound from the driver's side wheel well area when turning, and the steering looseness problem hasn't been solved, but neither affects the over all performance of the car.
My biggest problem right now is that I don't know what I'll do to replace the Intrigue in a year and a half or so. I read in one of the car mags recently that Pontiac is dropping sedans in favor of more crossover vehicles. The pics I've seen of the next Regal aren't very inspiring. It looks like a Century. The CTS looks very promising but I don't know that I'll be able to afford the $35k to buy one. May have to wait for the next Maxima to come along.
In the meantime, I'll keep dropping by here from time to time to see what's up. Hope everyone is doing well.

You face the same problem I will. GM has nothing similar to the Intrigue for me to come back to. My only hope is that the 2003 Grand Prix has a better interior than the current model. It's about the only GM midsize car I can afford and like. CTS would be great but I haven't got the money. Maybe in a few years I will though.
As long as Pontiac makes a decent Grand Prix, they will keep me. A nice interior with quality build and I will be there with bells on. If they screw it up, I will be at a Nissan dealer.
And Buick.... I'll just say you'd better get a Regal now if you don't want to get stuck with that ugly mobile they plan on producing.
From GM, I got turned off by the unacceptable finish in the Grand Prix. The only Pontiac I'd consider would be the Bonneville.
I was eyeing an Intrigue, but after the only Olds dealer in town closed, I'm afraid it would be a risky choice.
I even checked out the Regal, but I quickly dismissed it.
If only Chevy had dropped the booze when they designed the Impala's tail lights...
In the meantime, I've considered a couple of cars whose brands had never made into my car buying list: the Accord and the new Altima.
With the fad of transvestite cars, I'm afraid that GM has just lost a customer. Am I alone? Sigh...
Maybe I'll find a lonely stretch of road and drive my Intrigue into the sunset.... :-(
I like the current Grand Prix body, just don't like the interior much, especially after the Intrigue.

Ford and DCX? Quality woes galore, sour management/workers/dealership relationships, safety related scandals.....
GM Management is making waves in the news lately...
I hear GM dealers are pretty upset with the company too, just as are their counterparts at Ford. In fact, did I not read that a group of Olds dealers are suing the company for the decision to pull the plug?

GM has already turned the corner with trucks, raising market share nicely this year with almost no incentives. Cars are a bigger problem of course, but all this signs are there that GM is really trying. New outside people (unheard of at GM before) and a slew of new models in the coming 3-4 years.
I know you are pesemistic, and there is certainly reason to be given GMs history. That said, things have never looked so good. It's a long process to achieve change. I think the piece are slowly coming together thanks to Mr. Wagnor.
>It's been a while since I last saw so few enticing
>choices...
I agree. My wife and I are shopping for a replacement for her daily driver (a '96 Lumina LS). We didn't have much in the way of choices when we bought that 5 years ago, either (the Grand Prix, Regal, and Cutlass Supreme were all being replaced shortly, and neither of us wanted a 1st-year GM model. We buy GM because we've both had good luck with with them mechanically, and also because her mom works there, so we get the GMS or GMO discount). Combine that with the $2000-$2500 cash back, or 0.9-3.9% financing offers available now...
>From GM, I got turned off by the unacceptable finish

Agree on the interior of the GP - did they get that plastic from model kits? I wonder if that'd hold together for 40k miles. The car is still on our list, but kind of the lesser of many evils...
We actually drove a Bonnevile SLE, and hated it. The interior was just wayyyy too "busy" - too many buttons, etc.
>I was eyeing an Intrigue, but after the only Olds
>dealer in town closed, I'm afraid it would be a risky
>choice.
When I bought my (used) '98 Aurora back in March, I test-drove a base Intrigue and hated it. Last night we drove a black/graphite GLS w/Bose, and loved it. It's currently our favorite. My wife wants a white one, though, and there are few 2001 GLSes remaining in the Milwaukee/Chicago area.
We could order a 2002 and get the GMO pricing (as opposed to GLS), but there's only a $1k rebate on the 2002's (does anyone think that they won't up that to $2k like the 2001's, come October 1?)
Has anyone here purchased a GL or GLS at GMS or GMO pricing (which is typically $1000-$1500 under the dealer invoice)? Usually with that, you just get the price, with no negotiation, but, given the close-out/blow-out deals, does the dealer have room to move at all (I think, as part of the end of Olds, don't they get $1500-$3000 per car as a buyout)?
>I even checked out the Regal, but I quickly dismissed

I've had this as a rental, and it's "OK", but don't think my wife would like it. Still, we're going to drive one soon...
>If only Chevy had dropped the booze when they
>designed the Impala's tail lights...
No doubt! The Impala is so ugly it makes our Lumina's look like a Corvette (sorry Teo)! My wife and I have both ruled it out on looks alone. OTOH, she still wants to test-drive a Monte Carlo...
>With the fad of transvestite cars, I'm afraid that GM >has just lost a customer. Am I alone? Sigh...
I think more and more people love their trucks, vans, and crossovers. GM sees this as the "new thing", but they're ignoring those people who still like to drive a car (I have yet to drive an SUV that I would feel comfortable cornering, or doing emergency maneuvering in like I can with my Aurora).
I sure hope Bob Lutz can wake 'em up before it's too late. Ford is battered from the Firestone issue, while DC is still messed up from the merger....

After reading the labels, I couldn't tell if I should use the conditioner or cleaner. Is the cleaner for dirty seats while the conditioner is to keep them from cracking and getting dirty?
Help!
Oh, yeah. I passed on the Zaino. I'm a Meguiar's man now. Tonight I'm going to hit it with a coat of "Gold Class". I like their tag line: "Sunset by God, reflection by Meguiar." We'll, see.
The 3.8 was very competent, as usual, but the 3.5 would be much nicer. I know that there's a supercharged version, but it's beyond my budget.
The only problem is finding one here in Texas' truck land...
:^)
Check it out
Best wishes on your seach

Taste is highly subjective. I like the Impala due to its 'Love it or hate it' nature and looks. At least I won't see 10 of them lined up in the next intersection!
Don't rule the Impala out just on looks. I highly suggest for you and your wife to take out an Impala LS for a spin...you might be delightfully surprised! The LS has the 3800 V6 engine, sport suspension, alloys, 4-wheel disc ABS and all speeds traction control standard. The quality of the interior is much better than the one found in the Grand Prix. I really like the GP but the interior quality is a big turn off...a shame for it is a very nice looking car.
The Montecarlo is the same exact car as the Impala. You might like its looks and dashboard design better than the Impala, but both have the same exact underpinnings and are built along side the same plant in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada (Where your Lumina was made by the way). The Monte is the 2 door version of the Impala. I like the SS version, however, make sure that you can live with the shortcomings of two door cars and the rather long and heavy doors (Tight parking spots).
The Intrigue is a nice looking car but I can't stomach the Saturn inspired front end.
Have you checked the safety ratings for these W body cars?
The Impala comes at the top. 5 star front end rating and 4/5 stars side rating (Without/with side airbag). Also the Impala is the only W Body sedan that already meets 2003 government safety standards. The 'older' W body cars (Regal, GP, Intrigue) only meet 1997 safety standards, hence, the lower safety scores.
The Intrigue has the worst side crash rating of the W body family....only 2 stars something to consider if you care about safety.
The Regal and GP are a bit better but not significantly...3 to 4 stars.
It is up to you. For some safety is not important or a moot point. For others it plays a significant part in the decision making for purchasing a new car....
The Bonneville is a fantastic car in SE trim. It is extremely safe too. Don't write it off just yet until you give it a second look.

Have fun shopping!
Don't know a thing about aftermarket rotors. We do recommend OEM linings when those need replacing. No telling what formulation is in an aftermarket pad and the lining is one of the most sensitive parts of a brake system.
I bought my Intrigue in April. It was a 2000 GX with 22K miles and had been a Avis rental in Texas. I love it but thank goodness for the factory warranty because I had to have the trans rebuilt. The OD clutch burned out. The only way I knew is that the revs were way too high at 70 mph. I saw this problem in the TSB list that someone had a link to recently. They replaced the intermediate steering shaft at the same time. I had noticed it click loudly just once so I don't know if the mechanic heard it or if it's a known problem.
I agree with you on the auto business. Bosch will never quit but we have suppliers pulling out all the time. The latest was Acushnet who supplies us with a lot of seals. I guess there's a lot more money and fewer headaches with golf balls. No chance of a recall there.
If anyone has anything further to say, please feel free to email me.
Thanks.

i'm looking into getting one to avoid overtightening of my rotors too.... thanks!
I'm going to look into getting an '02 Intrigue GLS with all the fixin..how much should i expect to pay in relations to the invoice price?
