Do you have any pics of Obsidian black MBs, any model will do. Miki and I want a good look at the color.

I park inside an attached garage with a steel door and rolling code opener so I have never thought of locking the car when parked inside. It has always been unlocked when I am ready to go. The car will re-lock its self automatically if, after being unlocked, one of the doors has not been opened by a number of seconds (I forget just how many). I do have the auto-locking feature set so that all the doors lock at 9 MPH.

If I have missed a feature here would someone straighten me out? We bubbas have a reputation of not being the brightest bulbs on the string you know.

Since someone posted a link to this site previously, I wonder what group member think about this article there:

Just wanted to raise the flag of Ireland in honor of St. Pattys Day folks. I've been enjoying the all of the postings. Just making it harder for me to wait for my new C. Still have another 5 weeks at least! Sounds like I need a little "luck of the Irish"

You're still flying the stars and stripes, Old Glory. Is my German flag still flying? I wonder if the German flag has a name? I'll have to ask tarik.

tarik, do you know if the German flag has a name?

I just got a lease quote on a 2001 C240. The quote is $474/month (exclusive of taxes), 15k miles/yr, 36 months, 2800 out of pocket (inclusive of license and title fees). The only options are the moonroof package, the bose stereo system and the cd changer. Does this sound like a good deal to those currently leasing this car? Thanks for the input.
  • djasonwdjasonw Member Posts: 624
James: If you'd like me to figure out if you got a good deal, please let me know what the ending residual is. I also need to know the money factor. Most probably the dealer is charging MSRP.. but these are the other factors you should know to determine if the deal is good. Also, how much of the $2,800 is for cap cost reduction?
  • diwc240diwc240 Member Posts: 172
James, see slide #12 of 33 in Photo Gallery (Post #2). Select View Photo Full Size. Those lease numbers are with no money down. So for each $1000 down it reduces your monthly payment by approx. $30. My MSRP on C 240 6MT with C1,2,3,4, Bose was $35,580. CD changer included at dealer cost. I also went with 15 K mi/yr. but 39 months.
Are you going with Auto TX ?
  • jamesa4jamesa4 Member Posts: 22
diwc240 - where do i access the photo gallery? (i went to the second post in this thread, but that wasn't right.)

djasonw - the msrp is 35255. 1000 of the 2800 is the cap reduction. don't know the money factor or the residual. i know this is probably a very stupid question, but does it matter what the residual is if i'm just going to turn the car over to the dealer at the end of the lease?
  • michhalamichhala Member Posts: 375
  • jamesa4jamesa4 Member Posts: 22
diwc240 - found it. now i'm trying to interpret it. not sure if i can figure it out if i don't know the residual.
  • zmeenowzmeenow Member Posts: 341
    MAY I SEE YOUR PASSPORT.....PLEASE??????
  • diwc240diwc240 Member Posts: 172
The residual in early Feb. was 70 % on 36 months,
68 % on 39 months. So I don't think it would have dropped below 68 % yet. Money Factor may drop some more after next Tuesday. But if Fed cuts .50 basis pts. MF won't drop by that same amount as I found out in Feb. MF = Interest Rate divide by 2400.
    9.0 % / 2400 = 0.00375
MB has some of the highest residuals in the industry. A high Lease end residual helps you get lower monthly payments in the lease as you can see by doing the math.
I think your lease numbers look pretty good.
    35255 MSRP; 70% RES; MF=.00375; 36 months; NJ Tax = 6 % for example.
    A=$293 B=$224 A+B=517x.06=$31 Total=$548 less $2800 = $464 by my calcs.

There are various methods to work this out. This example/method I think I got from Edmunds. Another good site is www.leaseguide.com and they have a "Lease Kit" for $20 or so to download. It really gets into all the details of leasing.

My C320, C2,C3,C4 with the shifting front seat has been fixed! For those of you new to the group, I had a shifting front drivers seat cushion which also popped on turns. It took a meeting with the MB Zone mgr to get it done however.(I might add that the zone mgr for Northern Illinois was a consumate pro in every respect, it made me feel like MB was the right choice) The fix for this involved a new seat bottom frame which contains the springs and a memory control module to correct the erratic memory settings. He also advised me that the fix for the early builds for the satellite unlocking is still in the works, so I'm hoping all of you affected will keep up the inquiries as to when this will happen.

On an operational note, I'm averaging 22.5 Mpg for nearly 2900 miles of mixed driving and around 26-29 Mpg on the road. I haven't used any oil but was going to have the oil changed early until I learned that the dealer wants $68 for the change using Mobil 1 synthetic oil. I'm gonna wait since I'll have traded within the 2 to 3 year window.

I agree with the earlier contributors about the leather interior (I have the leather interior) but after sitting in the MB tex version, I'm thinking that it is a waste to have upgraded.

On another note, I wish the outside rear view mirrors were bigger to compensate for the blind spots of the reinforced roof, and would also like a little more room for the back seat.

So far I have had 4 trips for various repairs since Dec delivery. I also bought another new car in Nov 00 that has not gone in for anything.
What I really enjoy is the power, handling, and the controls, though I am going to update the wheels/tires to an 18" 235/40 size to eliminate that up on its toes look. If any of you have already done this, what was your wheel tire choice?

    Keep the news coming

    Regards

  • djasonwdjasonw Member Posts: 624
I hate to beat a dead horse but how many people are prematurely changing their oil before FSS says ok? Since I am leasing, would it be a waste for me to change once on my own between intervals? I'm concerned that an oil change facility such as Jiffy Lube will not even know where to put the oil!! Heck... how they gonna check the level without a dipstick!! BTW... I STILL have not looked at the engine compartment. Maybe I'll do it later when I get home from work. My buddy tells me there's VERY little extra space (I have the C320).
  • tclawtclaw Member Posts: 23
Yes the mirrors are small, but for those, like me, for whom turning the head very far is becoming a burden, I strongly recommend the small, suction cup mirror that you place low on the driver's side of the windshield. It gives a great view out the side of the car, just as passing cars enter the blindspot. It's available in some of the better car accessory catalogs, and at Restoration Hardware. About $20.

    Willkommen!

The German flag is usually referred to as the "Schwarz, Rot, Gold", pertaining to the three colors black, red and gold (yellow).

Have you proven that you are worthy... ...oh yes, you own a (master)piece of German engineering, way to go!

i changed my oil at prestige in paramus at 3,500 miles..they charged $45..takes about 1 1/2 hrs.. i wouldn't take it to a jiffy lube..trust them with my c ??!!NO WAY!cost would probably be comparable..and if it take that amount of time for a mb dealer to do it..imagine what a jiffy lube might be?
engine compartment.. as well as underside of car(saw that this past week when i did my 1st"a" service and they rotated wheels) are well covered...yes little room!(c240)
  • djasonwdjasonw Member Posts: 624
Do you know if Prestige ever has weekend service hours? I agree in not wanting to have those little teenagers at Jiffy Lube to get their paws on my C. :)

Glad to know that. Sounds like a really nice dealer. I am not sure if any of the dealers here on the island have hours on Saturday. i suppose I can check. But it would be convenient for me as Prestige is minutes from my sister's house in Ridgewood. Thanks again!!

Someone posted about the Wedgewood blue a couple of days ago.. I saw it in the showroom a while back on an E. VERY classy looking with a tan interior. It's a color I don't think you're going to see much of on the street though compared to the red's blacks and silver because it's not a safe choice for most folk.

I spoke with my mechanic on this subject today. His recommendations were if you lease or plan on giving the car up in a few years go with the MB policy/warrenty. If you plan on keeping the car for 7-10 plus years then he insists going with the 3000 - 4000 mile oil change. He feels it will make that car last and run that much better. He says thee is no reason why you can't get 200,000 miles plus on that engine. I actually believe in his logic. This guy has supported me and my Volkswagens for years.

Senor Donut... I agree.... I am not sure what I will be doing in 3 yrs (buying my leased vehicle?). I will probably change the oil at 3000 or 4000. Even though the residual is etched in stone with MB... I may just give it back to the dealer and then buy it at a reduced price. Since they couldn't sell my car new (amethyst) then maybe I can get another good deal on it used. Anyway... who knows...

Oh Zeemee... good idea... I'll go to Cheesecake Factory when they're working on my car!!! LOL

Anybody here make the change to these bulbs? I've heard they're much brighter than stock low beams. I'm thinking of making the switch.

Miki, are you back in the country yet?

Leaving the country violated my parole! Please don't turn me in! They will lock me up and who will take care of the baby (Benz)?

Wonder when dennet is returning from Germany?

I went to the dealer yesterday to see a C320 with COMMAND that
came in for another customer. While I was there I found out that
my C320 (Desert Silver, Java Leather, C2, C4, COMMAND
and K2a) was assigned a VIN and was on the production line. If all
goes well, I should have it be the end of next month.

I sent my sales person an email outlining the common problems
reported with the C class. I have included it below with the
reply from the service manager. Does anyone have suggestions
that I should follow when picking up my C?

    Thanks.

    Robert
    ---------
    PROBLEM LIST:

    A) Paint chipping. The feedback is that there is "excessive" paint
    chips from normal driving.

REPLY: Paint chips are an unfortunate condition that is present
with any vehicle manufacturer, not just Mercedes C-class.

    B) Squealing brakes. I guess the good news on this one is that after a
few visits to MB service, must people report that the problem was
    fixed.

REPLY: Some brake squeel is normal, if brake squeel is excessive
there are parts being phased in to address this concern.

    C) Problems with the drivers seat:

    - Seat memory not working correctly (i.e. it does not return to
the correct position. A "workaround" for this is to disable
the "exit mode". I'm concerned as I want both features.

    - The seat "rocks".

REPLY: I am not aware of any outstanding conditions with
the C-class seats at this time.

    D) Problems opening the doors with the electronic key (locking/unlocking
and trunk operation). One post claimed that this is an acknowledged
MB issue, and they will be delivering a fix to resolve the problem.

REPLY: Mercedes is aware of this condition and is working on a
repair, there is a temporary work around if the keys should
happen to lose their synchronization. (software issue)

    E) Ticking sound from engine when idling.

REPLY: I am not aware of any abnormal noises from the engine
compartment, there are however many items under the
hood that produce a clicking noise as part of their operation.
    (ie: injectors, purge valve, etc.)

Dennett, I put the H-7 Philips Vision Plus Bulbs in the low beams in my CLK and the H-1 Philips Premium Bulbs (no H-1 Vision Plus made) in the high beams of my ML. I liked them so much that I ordered another two sets of the H-7 Vision Plus Bulbs from WWW.Fosmo.Com, one set for the high beams in the CLK, also H-7s, as well as the low beams in the ML. Ture they are not Zenon, but for the money, a very noticeable improvement. These bulbs were rated the best by an independent comparison in "Auto Express", a UK magazine
  • dennettdennett Member Posts: 332
How much were the H7s, including shipping, from Fosmo? How long did it take to get them? I was thinking of upgrading the low beams only, do you think it would be worth doing the high beams as well? Which bulbs would fit the high beams of the C class? Thanks
  • kenyeekenyee Member Posts: 738
    dennett:
A pair of H7 replacements were $32.77 for me. Just got them yesterday, though they had gotten loose inside the Philips package and look like they were bounced around pretty well :-P
I'll plug them in this weekend to give them a try...maybe just one side to see how much "brighter" it is :-)
  • dennettdennett Member Posts: 332
Is this a C class you're putting them in? I'll be very interested to hear how difficult the install is. Were yours from Fosmo? Did the $32.77 include shipping? If so, that is way cheap. Are you swapping high beams as well?
  • kenyeekenyee Member Posts: 738
I'm putting them into my ML320. MB uses the same H7 bulbs across the line (but not on Xenons obviously). I don't use the high beams enough to make an upgrade worth it. Yes, that Fosmo price includes shipping; it seemed like a worthy upgrade if it is really that much brighter :-)

I am looking at a 95 C36 with 48K miles. Any special areas of concern? Any opinions of a fair price range? The car supposedly has every option available that model year. Thanks in advance.
  • dennettdennett Member Posts: 332
If I were you I'd go to the 2000 and older C thread, you'd probably find more info there, this thread is primarily about the new Cs. You might also find more info on the C36 at MBWorld.com, go to the older C section of their forums, I know for a fact that there are several C36 and C43 owners there who could give you a bunch of advice. Good luck, awesome car, but I know nothing about them other than I wouldn't mind having one!!
  • diwc240diwc240 Member Posts: 172
    Bill I just ordered the PVPH-7's. $32.27
Drew thinks they take about a week to arrive from U.K.
  • zmeenowzmeenow Member Posts: 341
will dealer be able to install these bulbs?
  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
Yes, but you'll have to pay for the labour, of course. The instructions are in the owner's manual and they're not really too difficult to install. Just don't touch the glass on the bulb since the oil from your fingers will drastically shorten bulb life. If you do inadvertantly touch the glass, clean it off with some rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth. Start with the passenger side headlamp first since there is more room to maneuver/practice at that corner. If you have a pair of disposable surgical gloves, you may want to put them on to keep your hands clean, and to minimise any accidental scratches :-)

We must go to the same dealer!

My personal experience and that of several others:
The C320 has three memory settings. This means you should have the capability to set the seat, steering wheel, outside mirrors, with "exit" enabled (and I keep it enabled) with three settings of your choice. When I valet park or car wash, they always push the driver seat back. I ask them not to touch, but my seat is too close for most of these people. This interferes with the seat programming. If working correctly, you should be able to hold down a memory button and the seat will return to proper setting after it has been manually pushed back. Mine does not. I have to reprogram and hold up people behind me waiting to depart because I cannot reach the pedal to move the car to another place while reprogramming. I would like to program one of the three settings for a bigger and taller person than I am, so that when dealing with valet or car wash I can switch to that setting when giving them the car, and they will have no need to touch any seat adjustment buttons.

Different shoes also require other settings. If men or women wear shoes (cowboy boots) with different heel heights, you might want to have a setting to accommodate. I wear platform shoes sometimes which bring me closer to the pedal than regular shoes. I hear you all laughing, but, Yes, some men, too, wear platform shoes and different heel heights. :)

To summarize -- when you checkout your new car at delivery, program three settings vastly different from each other, with "exit" enabled and make sure all the settings work as they should.

Re remote key locking/unlocking. In a post I referred to this, also. When you lock your keys in the car or in the trunk (when you pick up your car you will understand that it is easier to lock keys in trunk) you are supposed to be able to call the TeleAid service and they can unlock your car for you from their location. This is promised in the C manual. This feature is not on cars with lower VIN numbers (somehwere below 55xxxxxxxx-59xxxxxx methinks), and I do not know if it is on later ones yet. When you pick up your car, or if you have the VIN already, you can call 1-800-Mercedes and ask them. I was told by someone that there is a fix for this, but I also mentioned I did not know if the info was reliable.

    >The seat "rocks".

    With or without music? :)

I'm getting ready to order some Zaino products for the long awaited C240 and also thought I could experiment on my 2000 Ford Explorer. Here is what I plan on ordering. What do you "professionals" think? Should I consider their leather conditioner or tire gloss?

    Z1 - Polish Loc
Z2 - Show Car Polish (clear coat)
    Z6 - Gloss Enhancer
    Z7 - Car Wash

The color of my c240 is going to be Bordeaux Red. This is a clear coat finish, right?

    Thanks All ....

Can you special order colors that are not listed in the C-class brouchure? I figure if you're going to spend the extra 1,000 bucks to do this, you should have more choices open to you. There are some colors in the E class that I really like. Are the C and E made in the same factory, and if so, would this make it easier for MB to give me the paint options available on the E, for my soon to be C???
