I got my bike racks from a "Super Walmart" here in Winston-Salem, NC. I'll check to see if they have any and try to get an address for the company.

Where does the 12 disk sit in the truck? I am interested in a changer for my 1999. Is it accessible while driving? or does it tuck neatly away in a compartment somewhere?

Has anyone put a TV/VCR/DVD in their SUV? I have seen so many Minivans with them now on the streets plus seem some really nice custom work in cars and SUVs.
Also, what CB does everyone use? I thought the new Family Radios (FRS) would just kill the CB market but I have a couple of them and the performance is not really good. I have noticed some really nice handhelds and wondering what everyone has. Thanks.

I just ordered one. This is the "old" model that is generally accepted to be nicer than the new. These things don't go on sale that often. Shipping was only $6.99.

How much does it cost to put in single(roof) or double(headrest)screens? Is everybody doing doing DVD or VCR? Recomendations? Brands? size of screens? Share your experience!

SBCOOKE - The 12-disc changer in my 95 is mounted in the cargo area over the left wheel well. It doesn't interfere much when carrying stuff in the back, and disappears under the cargo cover when extended. It is not accessible while driving, but that's never been an issue for me.

I'm not sure what changer types were offered by Isuzu on later model years. Most later models seem to have either single-disc or 6-disc in dash units, and these seem to be prone to skipping if not mounted just right.

If you buy an aftermarket head unit and compatible changer then you could mount the changer either in the cargo area or under one of the front seats.

The biggest drawback for me with the original 12-disc changer is that I can't upgrade the head unit with aftermarket and continue to use the changer. The changer works really well (never skips) and I don't want to toss it just so I can replace it with a matching HU/Changer bundle.

Does anyone currently have this size tire on their second generation Trooper. If so please let me know. I want to see a pic of them on the Trooper. I have a 2000 S and am considering a 265 75R 16.

Look in the Owner's Gallery on http://isuzu-suvs.com I believe that John Warren's has those tires on it. http://isuzu-suvs.com/gallery/jw.html

Did you ever get your Lund bug guard? Also, did you get the Smoked or Clear. Could you please post a pic if you got it? I got a little crazy with the drying towel this past weekend. I stuffed too much into the gap to dry it, and pop! it cracked. Time for a new one, Thanks in advance.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
That's exactly what I did. Conman won't be posting on here cause he read through the user agreement and didn't agree with some of the parts of it. I'm sure he'll be monitoring here and I'll post up a link to pics when he get's em to me.

Too bad about CON, he was very enthusiastic and had alot to add here. By the way, I checked out your site recently, lots of good stuff. I still think Isuzu should give you something for your effort to keep us all informed, maybe a commercial with Joe Isuzu....hehe. I'm still waiting for a response from Isuzu on the bighorn stuff....lol!
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I'm waiting for Isuzu to send me a sieze and desist order for using the Isuzu name in my website. Hopefully they won't do that though.

I cruise through different topics on here and see the plugs you give Isuzu. BTW it's entertaining to read the "I DON'T LIKE SUV's, WHY DO YOU?" keep up the good work.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
That is a funny topic. I love to see the psycho enviro guys over there get all upset at SUVs.

Can anyone help me with this? I think I got a notice from Photopoint a week or two ago about not being able to host pictures anymore for free??? Maybe that's it. Can I email them to you directly? Or can anyone act as an intermediary?

    Thanks,

I was hanging out on the IDC (Isuzu Dark Side) last night and we got to talking about tires. I think I'm gonna go with the Pirelli Scorpion AT LTs in the 275-70-16 size. Tire rack is carrying them for $99/each. It won't give me as much lift as the 265-75s, but it will give me more rubber on the road and my speedo will only be 5.6% lower.

Many thanks to Paisan for his help. BTW, keepontroopin, those are Wrangler RTS's. They were a great deal and I have greatly reduced my offroading lately, otherwise I'd still have Mickey Thompson's like I had on my Jeep. Paisan, you bring up a good point, when I first started looking for replacement tires, I wanted to get 265/50/16's in order to keep the aspect ratio the same, but, there is no such thing, so I went with the best deal I could find to test the treadlife. At $99 each, I think you'll be very happy with what you get. If I wanted the outside edge of the tire to be flush with the outside edge of the fender flare, I think I would need at least 285/75/16's, or equivalent, but I'm happy.

The 275s didn't hit me til I started looking at the Pirelli page on them. Originally I was gonna do the 265-75s as well. But wider is better, right? :)

Most likely get the new ones sometime this winter or next spring. I only have 25K miles on the current ones, with 2 or 3 offroad trips planned for this summer/fall. I'll definitely get the new ones before Moab next year.

On a 2000 LS, can 15 inch wheels be put on? Anybody?? The only reason I can think it would not work is becouse of the brake rotors size. 15 inch rims are cheaper and so are the tires.
  • raydahsraydahs Member Posts: 449
I've seen them on a 98. This person had 15x7 with 31-10.5-15 on it, so i guess you need to see if the brake rotor diameter is the same on the 98 as the 2000.

Will the hard cover fit over a 265/75 size spare tire? I still would like to know if someone has replaced front or rear with two new tires (same brand) and not had any TOD problems. One of my front 684s is in bad shape, and instead of getting 5 new tires I'm thinking of using the spare (new) and another new tire.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
so long as they are less than 1/2" different you should be ok. really less than 1/4" is best.

My hard tire cover will not fit my 265/75 tires. The closest I have been to your situation is that I put 2 new tires on the front but at the time the rears only had about 15k-mis. I have had no problems but then again I only use 4wd under very slippery conditions.

Just guessing here but if the bad tire is the passenger side front make sure you get a good alignment or you will similarly prematurely wear out the new tire. It also wouldn't hurt to check the ride height in the front to make sure both sides are even before any alignment work. It seems that typically the passenger side needs about 1 turn on the torsion bar to even things out.

If you need a tire you have to do something. My suggestion is to try to find a very good tire shop. Explain the situation to them. See if they will work with you to try just putting the spare somewhere on the front (just to make sure you don't trick the rear limited slip into engaging with 2 different size tires). If you hear funky noises then you could try buying one new tire and running it and the new spare on the front (again less likely to fool the rear limited slip and TOD). If that too produces noises ask them if they will take back the barely used tire and give you credit towards the purchase of a set of new 265/75 tires.

Good luck and remember to do those tire rotations.
  • gpm5gpm5 Member Posts: 785
thanks for the info. The fronts are both showing uneven tread blocks and cracks in between the tread blocks at 22k miles. The passenger side has fine cracks about an inch wide around the rim (stress cracks they call them). The passenger side is about 1/2 inch or so higher than the drivers side of the truck. Overall, tire places say they are fine to run on, but I'm not happy with them. The tires are what keeps you on the road. I'm contemplating going with a new set vs the two at a time replacement idea.

GPM, I'm planning on doing all 4 rubbers (maybe 5) on the trooper with pirelli 275-70-16 Scorpion ATs when the time comes. I think they are $99 at Tire-rack right now. Also you might want to e-mail crunchy. She is selling her 245-70-16s stock OEM tires cause she got some really big tires for hers.

My thoughts as well. I think that going with new tires all around and doing rotations on time is the best idea. Are you thinking of not replacing your spare tire? That would save a $100 bucks. How bad an idea is it to have a different brand spare but the same size. If it just gets you to a tire shop, would it cause any problems running on it at a different size for a few days?

I looked at another trooper--I think a '99, in the parking lot here today. I noticed the front tires on that one showing similar cracks between tread blocks, although not as bad as my one front one.

I looked at the Scorpions--one thing I noticed was they are made in Brazil. I was considering Dunlops in the stock size.
  • jimmyp1jimmyp1 Member Posts: 640
Do you still have your hard spare tire cover? If so, do you want to sell it, and what color is it? Anybody else want to sell theirs? My trooper is the one shown above, silverygold, I call the color. I just refuse to pay the dealer the price they ask for those things, but my wife likes them.

    Jim

P.S. Note to self, regarding Paisan's post (earlier today, but can't remember where) about speeds attained in his trooper, never, NEVER ride with him!

I still have one rim left for sale for a 2001 LS Trooper. Paisan and Conman, yours should be on the way next week - my centercaps are finally on their way. Anyway the last one is $150 plus shipping for anyone interested drop me an email.
  • breakorbreakor Member Posts: 398
I would go with the 5 tire option. You can no doubt drive around town in 2wd and the odd size spare on the front for a long time. However, with my luck the flat would happen upteen miles down a 4wd road or hundreds of miles from home on a snowy evening or both. I'd rather not take the chance of getting caught in such a situation and ruining something. Besides if I keep up with my rotations I should get my money's worth by getting 5 tires worth of wear. The other thing to think about is where will you be if you get an unfixable flat with and have an odd size spare (forced into buying a new set of tires again?)? I had that once on a used car.

FWIW we are also very happy with the ride and handling improvement the 265/75 Michelin LTX/ATs have given us. Paisan's 275/70 Pirelli option also sounds good but was not a typically stocked size, at least in the local shops I checked.

As for the cover, sorry, it is not for sale.
  • gpm5gpm5 Member Posts: 785
I guess I would be most worried about ruining something with an oddball tire as a spare, if it got heavy use in 4WD as you say. I have a aluminum/steel rim so won't be doing a 5 tire rotation. A little off in size due to wear is different than a oddball tire. And if the tire is out of stock or something like that in a year, and you get a unfixable flat, you're right, the result is 3 good tires without a spare that matches for a questionable period of time.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Is very sensitive to tire circumference. 1/4" difference in circ. will result in a whine and eventually wear out your t-case. Just an FYI.

Any word from CONMAN on that lund bug guard yet? In the gallery section on your site, who is BIO GEEK? Do they go by a different name on this board? I gotta know, what the heck size tires are on that thing! looks cool.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Bio-geek is on the 4x4wire I know he ordered a lot of stuff from the Ice-land based company that does trooper mods.

Conman's lund guard is still on backorder. As soon as he gets it installed I'll post pics.
