I have started contacting dealers via email asking for best price and then counter-offering my price. One dealer in RI has given me a price of $32,500. Still waiting to hear from other dealers as they have to check with the sales manager first. Bedards said they could do something but delivery won't be until March, trying to call them back.
Anyway has anyone when purchasing the car also had a car to trade, we have the Odyssey 2001 and we're little concerned that we will get a low price for it. How did everyone else fair? Should we consider selling it ourselves?
Thanks as always.
Are there any recent Bay Area buyers of an EX - Leather, Nav & RES? If so, can you please post your experience, price and dealership information. I would appreciate any info.
Thanks in advance.

After a month of research, I picked up an Ody EXL today for $29,310.
I began my search by contacting dealers through Edmunds and Cars.com. Nearly half wanted $30,510, with most of the rest quoting substantially above invoice. Mike Harvey and Grace Honda did, however, reply with a more reasonable $29,810. (I later spoke with Serramonte Honda, which offered to match the deal.)
Interestingly, dealerships on the outskirts of the Bay Area did not offer better deals.
Most aggravating was visiting San Francisco Honda, where the sales manager lectured me on how unreasonable I was being for wanting to pay below $29,810. This was especially galling given that the invoice on the EXL is only $27,548.
Only an hour later I got a call from a saleswoman at Capitol Honda offering me a brand new, off-the- truck EXL for $29,310. In a previous conversation she too had said she could not do better than $29,710, but I told her the deal would have to be better if I was going to make the drive from San Francisco to San Jose.
Anyway, she delivered on her promise, and I just drove the car home. Send me a message for her name. She said she would offer others the same deal, but in December only. Maybe she has a sales goal she wants to meet. It does seems like she has Odysseys coming often, so you probably won’t have to wait for a trade.
One last tip: don't just show up at Capital Honda. When I drove up there were literally ten salesmen ready to pounce; definitely do all your negotiating by email or over the phone.
Site like this have been invaluable. Thanks to everyone for your info and insight.
Thank you for the informative post. Although, I am looking for EXL with Nav and RES your post is very useful. Good luck with your new Odyssey. BTW, did you explore the Nav and RES options? Do you have any info. on these?
Thanks,
sfbayman.
Serramonte Honda told me that the demand for EXL with Nav and Res is high, and they would stick to MSRP for these models.
Here's me reasoning for not buying these features.
First, I do need Nav, but the portable models are only about $600 these days, and some are OK. I also bought a protable DVD player last year, and will mount it on the back of the van's seat.
There portables are undoubtedly less convenient. They are however, substantially cheaper, and I can take them with me on vacation.
Anyway, glad to help.
It's always the MARKET that determines pricing.
Any thoughts? This is in soCal and there are ABSOLUTELy no vehicles in TOURING NAV&RES until early Jan '05.
Good Luck.
Honda was more willing to negotiate than Toyota, though we were there for about 4 hours of intense negotiation over trade value. Ultimately, we started at $11K, and ended at $12,680, which is about $450 more than KBB "excellent cond" trade price for our 2001 Sienna.
I keep reading about Odyssey shortages and paying MSRP. Don't do it! Dobbs had more than 15 Odysseys in stock, and was dealing hard to unload them. Go in with a price of about $300 over invoice, and stick to it. Selling a car at a $300-600 over cost (not to mention the $800 holdback from Honda the dealer gets) beats not selling a car and getting no holdback.
Keep in mind that the dealer said such deals weren't available on the leather or Nav-equipped models. Seems reasonable to me, but his inventory seemed 50/50 between cloth and leather. My wife loves her new Christmas Ody! Dec seems a great time to buy -- good luck!
For some reason demand has soared on the Navi Odysseys that were slow sellers before. I guess people want EVERYTHING these days.
This may vary by location but the cloth EX's don't sell nearly as well. LX's get very little demand. I believe Honda is scrambling to increase production of Navi's.
The advise you have given may not apply in all marketplaces.
But it probably would apply to anyone who wants to fly into Memphis, get some BBQ and visit Elvis, then drive home in a cloth EX on the cheap!
Cost: $26,000 + $515 (destincation) + tax/fees.
I am in the stage of buying one in the coming week.
Thanks
Van was 1K over invoice and including cargo tray, cargo mat, all-season mats and leather steering wheel installed total was $32,064 plus additional $299 dealer fee. Van had 11 miles on it and was the color we wanted.
Also benefited from superior financing. And driving the van home for 2 hours was actually a nice test drive. Only thing I noticed so far (and it was dark, so I was hearing more than seeing) was above my head and a little behind it would occasionally be a kind of crinkling sound. When I pushed up on that area of the ceiling, it stopped. Might be sound proofing. It was intermittant so hopefully it will be no big deal.
The guys I dealt with at Team Honda were straight-forward and helpful. I contacted them after birddog posted at Edmunds of his deal there. I called TH, worked out a quote, and thought about it. I had received an earlier quote from a Denver-area dealer close to me that was almost $1.5K higher to start with (plus they wanted $400 more for those accessories and had added a theft protection package that I didn't know if I wanted for almost $600), and had a refundable deposit in with them to hold my place. So I called that dealer and told them of the new deal. Their response: They can't touch that price and had people in line after me for the van they were scheduled to receive and 30-plus people on Ody waiting lists. They wouldn't even split the difference. When you are dealing with dealers a couple hours away it isn't a huge distance but it makes you pause. But after that response, off to Colo. Springs I went.
If anyone lives within a reasonable drive of CS, I'd urge you to check out their Web site and contact CJ or JW. It has not even been a day yet for me, but right now I'm pretty happy.
do you think it would be better to wait until January to get a better price than before Christmas? I am also thinking that if they close down the factory for Christmas, that Honda will address some of the wind noise issues on the Odyssey. If so, how long would it be before the post-Christmas Odysseys start showing up in the dealers? Thanks.
As I understand it, that wind noise issue affects very few cars and is easy to fix. I've ridden in quite a few Odysseys and so far I haven't heard it. Like a lot of things that tend to get overblown in these forums.
The week after Christmas is always very busy for us. A lot of companies give their employees that week off, schools are closed and (some)people get Christmas bonuses etc.
Or should we just bite the bullet and get 3rd gen now. Anyone have experience with this sitation?
Does anybody know what tire fees mean when buying a new Odyssey? Is this a genuine pricing sheet item or one of those bogus make up the numbers item? Have any of the new Odyssey buyers seen this? If so, how much does it run typically?
Thanks in advance for any info. on this.
Check the CA DMV.
At least if you buy a touring, you save $1.50. Of sourse, the F&I guy didn't even know that, so I'm pretty sure some touring owners were overcharged!

It was a surpirse to find the exact color combo available. The slate seems to be pretty uncommon, but gets a lot of attention when it appears.
Superb buying experience at Turnersville Honda (in NJ). Very upfront too, without the added junkola that some of the other local dealers like to pad on.
Ended up with 4.14% financing through AHFC, so tht wasn't too bad.
If you stop there, tell them John and Martha sent you (we're probably the only recent slate EX-L buyers anyway!)
The wife wasn't willing to wait for a deal from the north anymore (she really wanted this before we went travelling), and this was the exact config she wanted, so we just pulled the trigger.

Glad you decided to give Team Honda a chance. They are terrific. It's nice to see them giving the Denver area dealerships some competition!
Sure is satisfying to get a great van and a great deal, isn't it?

What can I say about the car? The NAV is awesome and the kids love the DVD.
This dealer provided the best price after I sent an e-mail blitz to over a dozen So Cal dealers.

No email or phone quotes on that, but if you want to take a drive, it might be worthwhile. If not, call and see what they say. From what I can tell, they have a very efficient internet department, and do a big volume that way.

I ended up not getting an Odyssey, but a Toyota Land Cruiser. It's used, but in excellent shape. My uncle has a Land Cruiser, and he's had no major issues and still running at 260K miles.
I paid for a 2000 Land Cruiser:
$24,700 + TTL
It has 65K miles which, in my opinion, is low mileage for this car.
Plus, I paid $1,900 for an extended warranty of 36K miles or 3 years (bumper-to-bumper).
The car is fully loaded.
Thanks again.
Last Saturday picked up my 05 Ody EX with cloth.
Paid 25,900 including doc fees, TT&L excluded. No accessories added.
Bought from Bob Howard Honda in Edmond, OK.
Sent out about 40 price requests to ds in DFW, Tulsa, OKC, Wichita, Little Rock, KC, and Memphis areas. The next best deal was from some Honda ds in Enid, OK - 26,000 with doc fees.
Would strongly recommend getting a quote from Bob Howard Honda. I was really surprised how many Odys they had on their lot. I estimated there were about 25 Odys waiting for buyers. Transaction went very smoothly and the saleman was very professional , no BS , no crossselling or something. Thanks to all for sharing your experienses. This forum helped me a lot. MC and HNY to everyone.
I thought I got a good deal.......b/c I thought I knew the dealer pretty well b/c having bought 2 cars from him over the last 10 years.
So what's your secret??
What color did you get?
I was initially searching for an LX, but after checking a few local dealers and finding that they do not like to order LX but instead like to pile up EX in their lots. I wonder why EX is perceived as more in demand than LX. Could you guys share why EX is a more popular choice?
Many thanks.
Wave
Is $1500 off MSRP a good price, especially for EX-L NAV/RES/DVD which is my choice ?
I have had a hard time even finding any in N. Carolina where I am or in VA where also looking.
If this is a good price and OTD is ok would grab it in a heartbeat.
Let me know what y'all think. If it works out will post the Dealership so all will know.

After check the Edmund board, I notice most of you get 7/100/0 coverage ... pay between $900 and $1800. So I complain with dealer and dealer agree to match the coverage.
What kind of fees are people paying when they get their new tags for the van? I know it varies, but I was seeking a range. Thanks.
