The 2.9 exists. I was offered it.

Actually Wolf, you were going to Team Honda in Colorado Springs, weren't you? Did you go? What happened? I have had two posts removed (though I only understand the reason why for the first one, and that was due to a rule, not what I actually did) when I tried to provide more detail on my experience there.

I haven't looked to see what the invoice figure is on an '04 but that number would be a better guide than Edmunds' TMV.

In some (or all) areas of the country Honda was (is?) offering $500 dealer cash on these units.

Last point - some have recently posted about buying '05 EXs for just a tad more than your $25,300 quote.

hmd1, what dealer (in which city) did you get $2K under sticker? I'd love to get the name of the person you dealt with, drop me a line via email (it's in my profile).

    Thanks!

    Thanks,

I'm going to call Bedard tomorrow and see if I can do the same. I would feel a whole lot better about the whole transaction if I could do it the same way.

I will let you know if they allow me to do the same.

    Hello Guys,

Got an Excellent Deal on my NEW, I repeat Brand New( Arrived on 12/21/04 in dealer lot) on SAGE BRUSH pearl EX Odyssey with Ivory Interior.

I Got 2.9% APR( Though the finance manager initially said, he may offer me 3.9% deal as my FICA score is just short of required for 2.9%. he showed me proof of HMM letter When i said , i will not take anything less than 2.9%, he asked me to wait, and ran an online request with HMM and it got approved for 2.9%). But overall he is good. I got 4 year extended service (total 7 years/75K miles)for around 800 $ . is this okay???? I can cancel anytime?( Finance guy said, this deal is only when i am taking extended warranty at closing of the sale, If i close and come tomorrow, the rate is 1000)

MY purchase experience was Excellent. I tell you , Continental is the BEST in Chicago. Their price is right as do their customer service.

I got my EX for $ 29000 on ROAD.( There is a free car wash bonus too, anytime you visit them). I haven't paid a penny. Fully financed. Guys, how do you rate this deal.

I can refer to the individual sales guy & managers name( I got their permission) if you send me a personal email to my address. No dealer in chicago area could match that rate except one dealer who was close to that deal.

Thanks for Edmunds and all the participants on the forum for excellent support in car buying experiences.

    Regards

    Answering my own post here.

    SHP 1206 1206 1208 KS 1217

OK, that's what the American Honda Motor Co, Inc. shipping and receiving dump had on it for my car. (I had the dealer fax it to me just after the car was assembled and then again in transit since the ship date doesn't show up until 1-2 days after assemble date.)

    Translation is:

    Assemble date: 12/06

    Ship date: 12/08

    Scheduled arrival date: 12/17

    Present location: Kansas

So in short, it takes 9 days from the day it is shipped from Alabama for the van to get the the dealer's lot in Colorado. Actually, mine came in the night before (12/16).

Thanks for your reply...I spoke with the GM. (He has been the utmost professional and no pressure sales). He assured me that they have already processed my paperwork for that rate - 2.9%. So, I am thinking about picking up tomorrow rather than Sunday. If all goes as planned -- it will be a great Christmas present. :-) I will post the specifics after I return. Thanks again.

As previously posted, tough vehicle to negotiate on in South Florida. Verified my deal through several dealers, none of which called me back, so Braman Honda in Lake Worth got my business. Did $500 below MSRP, no dealer fee ($489), and above average book on my trade (99 Passat wagon 80k miles). They were very good to deal with, located the color I wanted (Redrock Pearl) and didn't try to pull anything on me. Also got the 2.9% for 60 months through American Honda. Looked into the extended warranty, but too expensive at $1,800 (!!!). Will put the money in a savings account instead and just contribute $50 a month for out of warranty repairs.Good experience and my wife and I are thrilled with this vehicle.

I need to move quickly on this and would appreciate feedback from the forum.

    $33,110.00 for 2005 Odyssey EX-L w/ Nav/DVD/Res

     before Taxes, Tags etc.

Essentially MSRP minus $1500 plus $515 Destination.

    $289.00 Processing Fee

If I get positve feedback on this and get the vehicle without probs I will post the Dealership and Website.

PS: Re the HFS 2.9% financing. More than one dealer has told me that it ONLY applies to Accords etc, etc which I know to be UNTRUE because I have pre-applied and received approval (link is here: http://automobiles.honda.com/info/financial_overview.asp)

I get the impression that they are mis-reading the 'applies to ALL Honda ' line on the web, but maybe they are trying to keep all the financing in the local 'family' if you get my meaning if you catch my drift :)

Before you move on this deal call Crown Honda in Greensboro, NC. Their website is hondagso.crownauto.com. They will give you a better deal even over the phone and they are true to their word. We had a wonderful buying experience.

Yesterday, I bought Honda Odyssey EX, Silver Exterior for the OTD

price of 28,400 (Taxes at 7% and 143 for T&L). This was the

best Internet price quote I got from the Chicago Honda dealers.

I got 3 other quotes which were within $300 of this quote.

I was offered 7year/75000miles extended warranty at $1100 which I

declined. And yes I did finance with them at 2.9 APR for 60 months

    (credit score of >720).

That's a TERRIBLE deal! You're paying only $700 under MSRP! I live in Northern VA as well and called about 15 dealerships within 3-4 hour drive yesterday and the day before yesterday. I got a couple that offered me $2,000 (that's $2,252 off MSRP) over invoice and couple that offered $1,500 (that's $2,752 off MSRP) over invoice on the most hard to find model: Touring with NAV/RES in Slate Green/Black.

One of the dealerships that offered $2,252 off MSRP also offered to deliver the car to me for free. The other ones I'd have to go to, but I don't mind driving 3-4 hours to save thousands of dollars!
  • dulnevdulnev Member Posts: 652
Correction: the dealerships are within 2-4 hours drive. The one that's willing to deliver is only 2 hours away.

    LX ...... $23800

    EX ...... $26220

    EX-L/RES ....... $29780

Prices excludes tax. Processing fee is additional $96. Dealer did not have the color I wanted. he is asking for $300 additional to go get the car from another dealer. 2.9% until Jan. 5.

    Are these reasonable prices?

The best quote I received so far is $28,590 before taxes and fees on an '05 Odyssey EX-Leather w/ an MSRP of $30,810(including destination charge). That's $2,220 of MSRP. I'm also trading in my '04 Accord EX (4 dr. 4 cyl. 5 speed manual 19,500 miles)My best offer is $15,000 (which is Edmunds value. The car is in immaculate condition and I really want $16,000 for it on trade. American Honda Finance @ 2.9% up to 60 months on the loan balance. I put a $500 credit card deposit down and I'm scheduled to take delivery on Monday 12/27. Another dealer has since called me and says he could do even better on the van but needs to see my trade-in to assess it's value. I'm thinking of going on Sunday to see if he can beat the quote on both. He may do better on the van and less on the trade. That's my suspicion anyway.

1)Do you all think I have a good deal and should leave well enough alone? In other words, don't even bother seeing the second dealer who is not too far away?

2)If I do decide to go....If the second dealer offers me a significantly better deal, should I give the original dealer with the deposit the chance to match or beat the deal?

I think these dealers are very hungry to make their quotas for the end of the month and year (I find the end of month the best time to shop). I almost feel bad pitting one against the other, however, I don't want to leave money on the table. Better in my pocket than theirs. Also, I figure they are still making good money on the deal. At the current quotes they'll probably list my trade for $18,500 profiting at least $3K even after scheduled 20K mile service and make $1,041 on the van. Dealer profit at least $4,000 give or take a few hundred.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
    Are these "reasonable" prices?

Yes, these are good numbers. However, without knowing where you are located it is impossible to say just how "reasonable" they are.

$300 extra for a dealer trade is, IMHO, out of line. The most I ever paid was $50.00 (for the cost of a driver to go 200 plus miles each way).
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
If the second dealer has not given you a firm price on the new unit but only said they will do "better," I would stick with the original deal as I sense they will jerk you around.

I've found that when someone truly wants to do business, hard numbers are offered very quickly.
  • inky4inky4 Member Posts: 238
Dude $15k is not enough from a dealer. I would pay you that in cash immediately if color is right and no damage history. New one is about 22k so sell privately. I would give $16k easily.

By the way go to mark roberts motors website--google will get you there. That is my dealer. I am amazed that they have up to $3300 of instock units of Odyssey.
  • inky4inky4 Member Posts: 238
Check out Mark Roberts Motors website in NE Oklhahoma. Discounts are huge on 8 in stock units. I bought there and directing you as a public service. Prices all on their website for every honda in stock.

    Kengaroo,

Would you please email me so that I can get more info about the salesman you worked with at Hillside Honda?

I live in Philly and am looking for dealer within a few hours drive which would be willing to sell for a reasonable amount above invoice for an 05 Odyssey Touring w/ or w/o DVD&Nav.

I saw some people talking about $950 above invoice from Berdard Bros in MA... wondering if there's any dealers closer who would be willing to offer something similar.

    Thanks!
  • dulnevdulnev Member Posts: 652
Either you're really bad at math, or you're misstating the figures. You wrote "MSRP minus $1,500 plus $515 destination plus $289 processing fee". According to my math that's about $700 under MSRP, because MSRP in my definition includes destination charge.
  • szeeszee Member Posts: 2
    Hi,

I BigGeo. I also live in NJ and am picking up my van next week from Bedard. Do you have any idea what the legal consequences might be if you get stopped with plates that were transferred from another car before you've had time to go to DMV and properly register the car. I'm contemplating doing the same thing as you did by bringing my plates from other car with me, but am concerned what might happen if I get stopped for some reason. I know it's not technically legit, but wonder would it be a big fine, or something worse?? Did you check this out before going that route?
  • rashdirrashdir Member Posts: 29
I was in the market for an EXL-RES and e-mailed all the dealers listed through www.hondacars.com .

Although I didn't buy anything, I think it's ok to post my opinion. If you are paying more than $1K over invoice on this vehichle I think you are paying too much.

Mentionable (low internet quotes to begin with) dealers are:

    Huggins Honda

    Star Honda

    Riverside Honda

Quintana (wasn't the lowest but eventually became one of the lowest).

Some dealers are so ridiculuous they are quoting MSRP and then say that they will match or beat any price. I refuse to deal with these folks.

Anyway your experience may differ depending on current inventory.

I postponed my purchase by about 2 months so I will update on my actual purchase experience then.

Here's an update on warranty costs and Honda financing. I got a quote from CurryHondacare.com for the 7 year, 100,000 warranty - $0 deductible (this one makes sense for my situation) for my EXL Nav/Res. This is the most expensive warranty. It came in at $1,235 NET after the Curry email with $90 discount. My dealer came in at $2,423 (7% or MSRP as Honda Finance goes up to 107% of vehicle value - others go as high as 110% so the F&I guy would probably ask for more). I threw out the Curry quote expecting it to be rejected. The F&I proceeded to take if without flinching. He later showed me his pricing from Honda - $1,050 for this warranty as noted above. I felt that it was fair to let the guy make the $185 and get some commission because that was all he was going to get from add-ons. As for financing, 2.9% for up to 60 months based on your credit worthiness through 1/3/05 on ALL models. They offered to do a no money down loan on this deal if I so desired.
  • algernonalgernon Member Posts: 21
And therein lies the problem - MSRP by definition ('Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price ') does NOT include destination).

For proof check out Edumunds Build / Research page or Consumer Reports where you will find that destination is considered an 'option' and added on to the MSRP (even though getting a dealer to remove it is near impossible). Destination 'cost' also varies from State to State which is another reason it is NOT included in MSRP, which does NOT vary from State to State.
  • vbnutvbnut Member Posts: 1
Purchased from Honda of Concord, CA via Internet Manager EX-L with no add-ons this past weekend.

    MSRP: $30,810; Invoice: $27,549; TMV: $30,810(Prices from Edmunds.com)

Actual Purchase Price: $28,200 + TTL

    $2610 below MSRP

    $651 above Invoice

Vehicle purchase only, no trade involved.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
No, the destination charge does NOT vary by state. It is the same across the country and is a fee charged to the dealer who, naturally, will not "remove" it from the ultimate purchase price.

Frankly, it does readers here little good to post an all inclusive "out the door" price or a price without including the destination charge.

Dealer "documentation" or "processing" fees vary by state (limited to $100 in Ohio) and/or dealer.

The most helpful way to post here is to break down the transaction as follows:

    1) Price of vehicle (including destination fee) plus

    2) Any dealer installed options (including an extended warranty) plus

    3) Any dealer doc or processing charge and then

    STOP.

Tax and license fees vary by state and do not need to be included as they are the same for anyone getting a title in a particular state/county. If a poster wants to include tax and license information, by all means do so but clearly indicate the numbers to be such and include state (or county, if applicable as it is in Ohio where the tax varies) information.

Just got a phone quote From Hillside Honda in Queens, NY $28,033 + TTL on an '05 Odyssey EXL

I'm now thinking I should consider selling my '04 Accord Privately. If I trade it in ($15,000 Trade-in)I save on $1237.50 on sales tax (8.25% where I live) If I sell it privately, I would have to do at least $16,237.50 just to break even with a trade. Edmunds TMV private party pricing lists it at $16,162 and KBB.com lists Private Party at $17,540. I think this time of year would be hard to sell a used car privately. I keep changing my mind. Help please? Any other thoughts or comments out there?

Hi, I'm about to contact dealers for quotes for EXL with DVD & Navi in the northern california bay area. I've read several posts here where people have contacted 20 or 30 dealers via email.

My question is, did you go via hondacars.com using there "form" where you fill out your personal info OR did you get the _actual_ email addresses from some other source ? It would be great to not have to fill that form 30 times and instead just email all of them directly (in Bcc: ) in one shot.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi All,

When looking at trim levels for EXL available on the Odyssey on Honda's website (http://automobiles.honda.com/models/specifications_descriptions.- asp?ModelName=Odyssey&Category=2), I noticed that they qualify the EXL w/ DVD and Nav. by saying "Available DVD Entertainment...." The listing for EXL w/ DVD trim level does not qualify the DVD entertainment system with the word "Available." Does this mean that the DVD RES is optional even when choosing the EXL w/ DVD and Nav. ? Also, what about XM satellite radio? I thought both DVD RES and XM sat. radio options are included at the EXL w/ DVD & Nav. trim level.

    Can someone clarify?

    Thank you.

I don’t know the specifics. Don’t forget that you have to drive through NJ, NY and MA to get to Bedard and they may all have different rules.

    Here is the dilemma:

    1) You can’t register the car in NJ without the title.

    2) Bedard won’t provide the title until the van is paid for.

I went to NJ DMV and explained this situation to them and I also explained it to my salesman at Bedard.

NJ DMV’s response: That’s their rules but they were sympathetic to my situation. Off the record, they told me that people do it all the time but if you ran into the wrong officer you could be fined.

Bedard’s Response: People do it all the time. In addition to the sales receipt, they provided me a printed document that stated that I traded in the Dodge so I could prove that the plates I was using on the van were transferred from the Dodge and were basically temporary. Of course, I also had proof of insurance coverage.

It was a calculated risk but there we no other viable options.

    Regards,

    George

It gets even better. Today I visited another dealer in person. $27,600 on a '05 Odyssey EX-L for vehicle in stock. They also upped my trade in $200 to $15,200 ('04 Accord EX Manual 19.5K miles). Tomorrow, if the original dealer can match, it's a done deal. If not I'll go with the second dealer who I met with today. Fees are similar for both dealers...about $100 including document, registration, inspection & NYS tire waste.

Wow, jeffs3, you're right at $50.00 (ok, $51.05) over invoice - the best price (relative to invoice) posted here on an '05.

This seems significant given your East Coast location.

Please let us know how this turns out.

I have a Maryland Honda internet quote on an EX-L RES: $29,895 which DOES NOT INCLUDE freight, dealer options (which I can decline if I choose to on an incoming unit; otherwise they add mudflaps and wheel locks on existing on the lot stock), a $99 proc fee and applicable VA taxes.

Let me know if I did not make myself clear. I will try to better unravel my above jumble.
  • denver5357denver5357 Member Posts: 319
Clarification: The best price on an '05 EX-L, with no RES or NAVI. Just trying to pin it down as RES and NAVI will add at least $2500 and likely more to the EX-L price, and then it is a different deal.
