Friendly Honda in Michigan is also excellent. They were willing to deal from the get go.
Good Luck
taste
We just picked up our new 2003 midnight blue EX-L that was delivered to the Twin Cities from Jay Honda in Ohio. Dennis Jenkins was excellent to work with and was very responsive using e-mail. Insured delivery added to the total, but it was still $1100 under MSRP. I'd highly recommend Dennis Jenkins at Jay Honda. We are very happy with our purchase!!
The best I could find locally was at Bloomington Honda for $250 under MSRP, but they didn't have the blue in stock.
Previously we'd purchased a 2002 evergreen pearl EX cloth from Burnsivlle Honda for $28,700 because they added dealer options to the van. We gave it back within a day because the driver side door wouldn't work correctly. I've read too much about problems with those doors to accept a van that had problems from the factory. Bottom line, we weren't happy with the customer service or price at Burnsville Honda! As it turns out, we got a much better deal by checking with other dealers.
Hopefully everyone can take their time, shop around, and walk away if you don't think you are getting a fair deal. I know where I'm going when we need another car/van!!
Yes robr2 I realize that Honda Motor Company's profit's are not the dealers profit's. Honda Motor Company has many divisions. Any idea on what the Odyssey really cost Honda to make vs. what they charge the dealer? However, Odyssey is making Honda and their dealers a good profit. We all know this already from the price they are charging for the Odyssey. By the way, Honda Motor Company will see their net income rise 13% to $3.3 BILLION for year end 3/03. Not sure what portion of this is from their "auto" division. Lots of luck to all that are still searching!!
Overall, I liked Goodson Honda. The entire process, which included financing through PeopleFirst and then dealing with Goodson's internet department, was very easy. Only two caveats about this dealership: 1) They do the $250 "VIN etching" deal. I luckily avoided this because they had to get the vehicle in my color from another dealership (hence no etching). 2) Some of their Odysseys have aftermarket leather and DVD. This will be plain from the window sticker, so be sure to look.
I wouldn't be suprised to hear that gross profit on an Odyssey is around $7500. At one time, Ford was grossing around $10K on Expeditions and GM was in the same ballpark for Suburbans/Yukons. And as an aside, in every industry I've worked the further down the distribution chain you are, the less your gross profit is.
But remember, it takes lots of $7500 gross profits to payback the $1 billion plus they just spent building the Alabama Ody plant.
As for their net income, remember Honda is a huge corporation with global interests and a diverse product line. $3.3 billion is not an outrageous amount amount anymore. ExxonMobil's net profit was $15.3 billion in 2001. As a shareholder, I'm happy for Honda.
Rick Case Honda in Euclid, OH offered $500 under MSRP for all models.
Grand Honda in Elmhurst, IL has a current ad for an EX at $24.995 on a $27,360 MSRP. I have found them difficult to deal with on previous visits. They are big on ad-ons and not having their advertised deals available.
For everyone else, what kind of lead time is required...not sure about the supply/demand balance. I need one end of March/early April.
Thanks.
Obviously none took my offer. Best I got was 23416 from Jay Honda, and 23917 from Waikem Honda (+ttl, no additional fees). Not too bad, $1444 and 943 under MSRP(dest included). A couple others replied with additional questions and a couple others haven't responded.
Since I'm a bottom feeder and not willing to pay even these prices (I want the best deal that I've seen posted here), I'll continue to drive my 93 DGC with 150K miles. I'll look again either in the spring, or maybe when the DGC finaly dies, whichever comes last
I just wanted to post my findings here on the board. I've found the information here very useful.
Thanks for all the great info.
I have a very general question for all of you you purchased your Ody thru the Internet sales rep of your local(?) dealer. How did you get the email address of the internet sales rep of the dealers?
I used the "find a dealer" search tool on Honda's web page, and it gives the name of the sales rep, but not the email address.
Did you go to each dealers web page, or is there some way I can find these all faster?
Also, I am looking for a new EX-RES. In general, should I expect to pay MSRP? Over? Under? I'm in Delaware, so I will probably be shopping in the DE/PA/MD/NJ area.
Thanks in advance.
Mike
as far as getting the internet sales rep email address, i used the honda site and then visited each dealers web page.
good hunting.
Don't know if this is the easiest way, but that's how I did it.
Happy E-shopping
Contact BURNS HONDA, MARLTON, NJ.
JOE MITCHEOLITTI
and he should EASILY take off $ 1800 off MSRP.
Good luck.
Thanks
Tom
I hope this is helpful. For anyone in the area, I suggest contacting Thomason.com.
Thanks all for your info, it really helped me in my negotiations.
The dealer is Jacobs Twins Honda. I worked with Donna.
drive an odyssey, get published....

Anyway, I started out local and was actually willing to pay MSRP (before I saw this site). I went to Pacific because they said that they had the one that I wanted in stock because someone didn't claim it. So I asked them to have it ready so that I can drive it off and go during my lunch hour with my 3yr old and 8 month pregnant wife. We see the Ody and start signing papers (we were paying cash). They say that it won't be ready to take because they want to do a safety inspection and detail it for us. Fine, so we'll pick it up the next work day. So we paid for it and he said he will deliver it. The next day comes and he says that it still isn't ready. I speak to another guy who claims to be my salesman's boss and says that I must have misunderstood: the car we saw was already sold to another customer. I did not misunderstand when he looked at my daughter and asked if she liked her new car! I was fuming now but what can I do? We already paid for the car. The next day comes (after a sleepless night - I was so mad) and instead of talking to my salesman, I talked to the GM and he comes clean. He says that he will look into the matter but that is not the way they normally do business. He says that the Ody is still not in and he does not know when it will be as it is still in transit. He then says that I can cancel the contract and get my money refunded or wait for the car to come in. I opted to get my money back.
Anyway, it turns out that a friend started working for another Honda dealer in town and I was able to get $500 below through him (even through him that was the best I could do). So I should join you happy owners in a few days... Thanks for listening to my pitiful story. It has a good ending, right?
You may think about filing a complaint with the local chamber or better business bureau or Consumer Protection department to help discourage this kind of activity.
Check out our Advice page for lots of buying advice, and good luck closing this time around.

My wife wants only the Havasu Blue color. Because we were in no hurry to get the car, and because my salesperson told me the Havasu Blue is tough to get, we agreed to give him until the end of January.
He called a few days ago and said that the factory stopped making the Havasu Blue for a while and would resume later this month.
Have any of you heard the same story? By January 31, the dealer would have had 11 weeks to get the car (with a $500 deposit) and we don't want to wait any longer.
I'd appreciate any info you have on this issue. Thanks.
http://www.toyota.com/sienna/minisite/ That's Why!
Well, that's what I'm doing.... I need a Mini by April. I like the Ody, but see no reason why I or anyone should pay MSRP? Use the power you have like I have for months.... just walk away. I told the local Honda dealership here in Arlington, TX to give ME a call once they get hungry. No calls yet and I still have no car note.
I want the 2003 Honda Odyssey
EX 4dr Minivan w/Entertainment and Leather for Invoice 27,300 not 27,500 or higher.
Happy New Years
1) Toyota will not be able to produce enough Sienna's in the first 3-6 months to meet demand as I expect it to be a very popular vehicle
2) On paper it looks superior to the Ody but only marginally so I believe the Ody will remain quite popular.
3) Pricing will be a big factor. A fully loaded 2004 Sienna I would expect will be more pricy than a fully loaded Ody (given that it will include AWD, Skid Control, Prem Sound, etc...) which will complete more with the T&C Limited for the bells and whistles crowd (not the Ody's strongpoint -imho).
4) First Year Vehicle - As a new release it will take a year to see the reliability and quality shake out though I would expect Toyota reputation should ensure a good vehicle
5) Honda (still) does not sell to Rental Fleets.
6) New Sienna's will go for MSRP or more. This should benefit the Ody
All in all I do expect that you will see more willingness to negotiate on Ody's (though this already the case now) but I think you will find that in the hot areas where pricing remains high it will remain so as the Sienna's are no doubt going to at list or higher as well; which ironically may make the Ody more attractive. It will be good to see many of these arrogant Honda dealers lose their perceived status as selling the best product on the market likewise there are some good Honda dealers who will remain good Honda dealers.
My two cents
New to the Honda Boards. Live in the SF Bay Area looking to buy a 2003 Odyssey EX-L. Went back as far as 400 prior postings to see what everyone's experience has been. As previously mentioned, there are no deep below MSRP discounts around here. Most are at MSRP, couple above, couple below. Certainly not like the $2K below MSRP like some of you got. Very envious.
Since Jay Honda in Ohio got such high praises with others, I emailed them and they first came back with $860 below MSRP. When I followed up with them asking about the deals I saw here on this board, they dropped it down by another $300 to make it $1160 below. While it's better than anything here, the cost of shipping it to the west coast is $800, effectively wiping out any savings.
If the price is $27K for the EX-L, like the ones quoted couple weeks ago, then even with the additional shipping charge, there is still savings to be had. Not any more.
When I asked about the increased pricing, they said the super deals were for year-end sales. Now the sale is over and the price is going back up. Oh, well, dollar short and 3 weeks too late.
So now I wait for the 2004 Sienna to come out in 2 months to see if the bay area dealers are willing to negotiate on the Odyssey now that they have new competition. Right now the 2003 Siennas are selling $5500 below MSRP out here ($3500 dealer discounts and $2000 rebate), making it a bargain compared to the Odyssey. So we'll see what we finally end up buying. Thanks.

I have an '02 SBP EX-L I bought in December from a local NC dealership (sticker was $28,860--I still have it). I've also added mud-flaps, cargo tray, and the leather-wrap steering wheel cover.
It's got 2,500 miles on it and it's been flawless, but I'm SERIOUSLY considering trading it in for an Expedition instead, although I'd prefer to sell private party.

This new van seems to be a very strong competition to Odyssey (and probably a better choice considering the 4WD/roll-down rear windows, etc). This should benefits us consumers. I'm quite sure by the end of this year we'll start to see 2-3k "discount" on Ody's. Then again I may decide to buy a Sienna by then.
Thanks for the feedback.
Good luck!
Here's the details (she agreed to $1500 off MSRP over the phone)- she's very nice and no nonsense.
MSRP - 28860 (including destination)
Outright Price (no trade) $27360
Doc fee 52.50
sales tax 7% (I don't live in Chicago and you get taxed at the county rate in which you live) 1919
license fee (orig)143
county tax 15
total cash due 29489.50
I put $500 down since I have to wait ~3 weeks for the Black XL with leather (no options) comes in. I'll let you know if I have any hassles.
I haven't financed yet (I'll wait until the car comes in) so I'll let you know what rate I get (3.49% was a Honda deal and that has expired. Any advice?
Heard from Autoland consultant and was quoted a "credit union member price" for Odyssey EX (Package A5) for $27,660 plus tax and license. MSRP subtotal includes freight = $27,360
Runner up:
Toyota Sienna LE (A4)
Autoland/credit union member price of $25,797 plus tax and license, less $2,000 rebate = $23,797. MSRP including freight charge of $510 = $28,283.00.
Last time I posted, I reported that I have put a 500$ deposit at Jacobs Twin Honda in Chicago for EXL at 26860 to be delivered in 4 weeks.
Well, after just a bit more research and a couple emails I found another dealer with the car on their lot for 500$ less.
So I have got my financing through PeopleFirst and went to the dealer. (Fletcher Jones Imports, internet sales Michael Frakes). The salesperson was very easy to work with. They have offered me a better rate then 4.89% PeopleFirst's.
Did not waste any time, from start to finish 2 hours, which included test drive, vehicle presentation, all insurance and finance stuff. (And a short break to grab a sandwich - my wife went there straight from work)
The price for my Sandstone Metallic Odyssey EXL is 26360$ (2500$ off MSRP) plus ttl and standard 52$ doc fee.
Love the car. Great experience! The salesperson was really trying to please us.
Now since I took back my deposit from Jacobs Twin Honda, you might be able to get the van I backed out of in a couple of weeks for the same 2000$ off.
I hope my post will help someone to negotiate a better deal. All previous posts sure helped me.
Thank you.

The loan application fee was $30. The title fee was $13 (Texas). FedEx cost to send the paperwork back to the bank was around $8. So total cost to refinance was $51. I figure this lower interest rate will save me over $600 (after the cost to refinance) over the next 5 years.
Ohio Central Savings is a savings and loan, and they offer loans to anyone in the U.S. You can find them on the net at www.ocsavings.com
That's all I know about them. The 3.99% APR seems like a good rate right now. Good luck.
I mentioned people are paying 1000-2000 off in other states and some of them asked me to go out of state and buy.
I decided I will wait for the Sienna to come out and then get the Odyssey..
yesterday one sales person from philly honda called me and offered 750 off msrp. I said no thanks I will wait for Sienna. He later called me and offered $1000 off with 4.9% financing for 60 months. As per the salesperson van has 11 miles as of friday.
I can wait till april/may if needed to get a van.
Should I wait till Sienna Comes out so that I can get better price or get the Van on MOnday?
I know I'm second thoughtin' it, and haven't budged yet. I'm not in a hurry. That's the best stance in purchasing a new vehicle, NEVER be in a hurry no matter how great it looks
There will always be more...eventually!
Good luck.
