If I had money coming out of my ears, I wouldn't be worried about price, I'm just a working stiff and go where I can get more for my money. I think as a hard worker we all deserve a fair market shake, if there is such a thing in this REAL WORLD.
I believe the previous post answered you question on registering your car in NJ. Yes, it will be more work, but it depends on how much work you're willing to do to get some savings. In theory, if you can get something out of state at $1500 to $2000 off MSRP, paid $500 to ship to NJ, you are still $1000 plus better off than paying your local dealers who's ready to call 911 to haul you away.
As for the 04 Sienna, eventually it'll come below MSRP, but that depends on supply/demand/marketing/reviews on the new van. I have already contacted various dealers and if you look at other Sienna sites, all early indications are it will sell at MSRP initially.
It all depends on your timing. As I'm sure you and I are not the only ones out there waiting for the new Sienna to arrive, there will be an initial rush to buy the "latest/greatest van". If you can wait a little longer, then you might get some price breaks.
You didn't say what trim levels you're looking at in both vans, but I'm comparing the Ody EX-L and Sienna XLE with optional packages so they're closely equipped. On MSRP basis only, Ody EX-L (including destination) is $28,860. The 04 Sienna XLE with options would go for $31,715. So if both sell at MSRP, the gap is $2800 plus. So you'll need to do your own comparison of what you want in both vans.
I noticed you posted on the Toyota board that you have a spreadsheet comparing the two vans, can you send a copy to me as well? My email address is listed under my profile. Thanks.
Harry
If you check the Sienna discussions or SiennaClub.org, you 'll see that there are some dealers who will be selling the new Sienna for $100 over invoice beginning next month. One dealer is Trace Toyota in MS. Also, I contacted Toyota Center in Columbia, SC and they said they would have similar pricing. Not all Toyota dealers will be charging MSRP.

There is no "additional work".
I bought a 90 Mazda 626 GT from Bedford, Ohio dealer in 89; an 95 Dodge GC form St Louis, MO in 84 and a 99 Honda Odyssey from Bartlesville, OK in 99. In each case I had no "extra work or costs". Each dealer prepared vehicle and paper work so I drove of with dealer's state 45 day temp tags, and I drove the vehicle to my home state, Maryland, Dept of Motor Vehicles and registered the vehicle.
Granted when we bought our 03 Pilot in state last year, vehicle registration was handled at the dealer. We still did the paper work but at the dealers instead of DMV. Not what I consider "additional work".
I shop nationwide for autos to avoid monopolistic distributors like appears happening in NJ and elsewhere. I started when I was in Hawaii where they had only one Toyota distributor - ServCo Pacific as I recall, and folks were buying from the West Coast shipping to Hawaii and still saving thousands.
.
In MA, the dealer is required to complete the RMV-1 form (application for title and registration) for you. Dealers in the contiguous states may have the forms and will complete them, but if I buy a car in Florida I don't expect the dealer to have the MA form. As I noted, his insurance agent could probably help him.
You mentioned before they were advertising $2000 and $3000 off. Do you know what ever became of those offers??
I noticed last week at least 3 other MA dealers in the area advertising 1000 off (Honda of Boston, HondaNorth and I believe it was Cambrige), to things are looking better for us consumers!!
I, too, need to clarify my post. When I said "more work to get some savings", I wasn't necessarily talking DMV paper work. I was referring the time/effort to contact various out of state dealers and getting quotes and coordinating delivery of the van. I'm from CA and I got quotes from as far as Ohio on phone/email 2 months ago, so it's not as simple as just walk into my local dealer and writing a check.
In addition, as I'm not willing to drive 2500 miles from Ohio to CA to bring back the new van, then I would have to arrange for a flatbed transportation on my own as some dealers I got quotes for, doesn't want to handle shipping to CA. To me that seems "extra work" to coordinate all this, but I would save $1200 if I choose this route.
I hope I didn't confuse anyone with my previous statements.
I told him I would rather pay full price for the 2004 Sienna with Side Curtain Airbags, which the 2003 Odyssey does not even offer.
We just purchased a 2003 Honda Odyssey this past Friday from White-Allen Honda in Dayton, OH. $2,000 off MSRP, no haggling, and they made it super easy to buy the van. They are located in Dayton, which is about an hour's drive for me. Total time at the dealership was 20 min to sign and drive. They also have 3.74% financing.
Feel free to email me and I'll give you all the details, including our great experience there and our unpleasant experiences at other dealerships.
ps. was this ok Steve?
We are 3 over here thinking of getting an Ody. We keep holding off because everyone's BEST price over here in NJ is MSRP. If possible, if we can make it 5, maybe we can all get a great bargain. Tell me what you think? We have been shopping in NY and PA the past 2 weeks. Still haven't seen anything like the prices we hear people are getting on this forum. Dealers keep calling us, but they keep telling us MSRP, even after we tell them that if that is the case we will wait for the 04 Sienna.
Brunna, a little humor, is it only people in OH, IL, FL, WI, and MA that get a deal on the Ody's. Way the go.
Hope someone can help. TXS.
After 3 months of research, I am finally getting closer and closer to that one magical deal. Wish me luck.
Anyone else...........................
They are selling them with no adds, straight off the truck from Honda, no advertising adds, no crap. You want it on there, you get dealer cost, not RETAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posting email addresses in the messages is discouraged since spammers will have easy access to it - burying it in your profile offers a bit more protection, but usual disclaimers.

Sorry.
Getting ready to finally get an Odyssey (after witnessing the Pilot first hand). Anyway, we're in Southern Cal and I've noticed most of the (very good) prices have been coming from the midwest or east coast.
We've got a quote of $27060 ($300 below MSRP) on an EX and it seems the best we can do. (Going through Costco and another similar buying service.) Anyone in the area know if it's beatable? I'd love to be getting some of those $1300 off MSRP!
Thanks!
Sean
The dealer will also tell you “The resale value is so good” Have He/She put it in writing what they will give you for it in 3,4 and 5 years. It won't happen, they only tell you what you want to hear. Good Luck be Strong
Good luck and Happy Odyssey hunting!
The dealership was Hillside Honda, over at Jamaica Queens NY. You may contact me for the names of the people I dealt with.
Unfortunately for me, we ended on a hold status because my wife's position was not too secure as of this week. Dealer could not promise the same deal, but would try if anything changes in the near future.
After browsing through a few earlier pages' worth of posts, I noticed someone mentioned Long Beach Honda selling/advertising them for $1k below MSRP. Definitely the best deal in SoCal.
So... I go to their website to get a quote which arrived in my email box w/in minutes and true enough, all their Ody prices were $1k below sticker. The kicker was that the price didn't include any already installed dealer options. That was a red flag for me, so I went down to the dealership to figure out what the options were that I was sure every car on the lot would have.
Well, it turns out Long Beach Honda puts a clear coat (essentially a $50 wax job) and a fabric coating on all of their cars and adds $1k into their cost for this. Needless to say, I wasn't about to even spend the time haggling over it. I have to say though, luckily for me, 2 silver Odys were pulled off the truck right before I got there (one EX, the other EX-L Navi) that were still wrapped in plastic with none of that clear coat junk on them. I told the internet sales guy that if he honored the internet price and didn't put the clear coat on, he had a deal.
To that end, we got the deal we wanted (best I've heard of west of Ohio) and a better rate than the credit union could offer: 4.49%! While I'm glad I didn't have to deal with haggling over the clear coat, I do have to say that my entire experience was extremely pleasing at Long Beach Honda. The sales guy was nothing but info and no pressure in finance. Very good all around.
Thanks for your imput.
Canadian market Odys do not carry any warranty in the US if resold as a gray market vehicle. There have been discussions ad nauseum about it. You may want to search on "gray market" and "Canada" here at Edmunds.
Also, Canadian market units have some features not found in US market units:
heated mirrors - there is a switch to operate them in the power mirror switch
the odo/speedo will be in km as opposed to mph
on the EX and higher, the temp display on the HVAC is in celius - the highest adjustment should be 80 F
lastly is the warranty offered "even better than the normal Honda warranty"? There's the biggest hint.
Good Luck in your quest.
The VIN will indicate country of manufacture, but I don't think it shows what country it was built for....

I wasn’t impressed with one of the vehicle service reps. I had a question/ concern and he a chip on his shoulder as if I was bothering him. I don’t think the rest are like him. I do plan to express this with Honda when they call.
Several things will play in your favor, depending as when your current lease is up. First is that the 04 Sienna will be coming out in a matter of days. It is predicted to take over the #1 spot. I have heard of rumors of people placing orders already. People are anticipating that the new Sienna will bring the Ody. pricing down. Honda will also be re-designing the Ody. for 2004. So if you are shopping towards the 3rd quarter of the year, you pricing the van now will be very over-estimated. In my near experience, dealers in the midwest have already fullfilled all their Ody. orders, where in the NY-NJ area they are still placing customers on a waiting list.
If you want a detailed listing of which dealers gave me what in our area, email me and I will send you the list.
WOW, I can't believe I am getting so excited. I can't wait. The last time I felt like this was the first time I bought a brand new car. I guess this makes me a full fledge family man. Or do I still need the dog?
With the 04 Sienna hitting the showroom today, now is the time to buy that new 03 Ody. I hate having the old looking model but if I'm right it won't be old looking in 6 months but rather 18.
