Cannon4: Did you get buy it from Honda East in Columbus. Can you explain what was $28,150 included. Did the dealer throw in any extra items like floor mat, cargo net...free of charge? What was your out of door price?

I will definitely keep you posted, as of now the 3 of us are on hold mode until the 04 Sienna comes out. Though the 04 Sienna will probably sell for MSRP, we still hope and pray that 2 things will happened. Honda will want to keep us, that they will give us a bargain. Or Toyota will want to steal some business away from Honda that they will at least make some fair attempt to do so.
If I had money coming out of my ears, I wouldn't be worried about price, I'm just a working stiff and go where I can get more for my money. I think as a hard worker we all deserve a fair market shake, if there is such a thing in this REAL WORLD. :)

    lapvn,

I believe the previous post answered you question on registering your car in NJ. Yes, it will be more work, but it depends on how much work you're willing to do to get some savings. In theory, if you can get something out of state at $1500 to $2000 off MSRP, paid $500 to ship to NJ, you are still $1000 plus better off than paying your local dealers who's ready to call 911 to haul you away.

As for the 04 Sienna, eventually it'll come below MSRP, but that depends on supply/demand/marketing/reviews on the new van. I have already contacted various dealers and if you look at other Sienna sites, all early indications are it will sell at MSRP initially.

It all depends on your timing. As I'm sure you and I are not the only ones out there waiting for the new Sienna to arrive, there will be an initial rush to buy the "latest/greatest van". If you can wait a little longer, then you might get some price breaks.

You didn't say what trim levels you're looking at in both vans, but I'm comparing the Ody EX-L and Sienna XLE with optional packages so they're closely equipped. On MSRP basis only, Ody EX-L (including destination) is $28,860. The 04 Sienna XLE with options would go for $31,715. So if both sell at MSRP, the gap is $2800 plus. So you'll need to do your own comparison of what you want in both vans.

I noticed you posted on the Toyota board that you have a spreadsheet comparing the two vans, can you send a copy to me as well? My email address is listed under my profile. Thanks.

The total price I paid for EXL RES with cd changer was 28635. Price included cargo net and floor mats. The only additional charges were documentation fees(50 dollars), title fees and taxes.

Dealers in the Rochester, NY area are discounting the Odyssey between $1000 and $1500. I expect that to get better.

If you check the Sienna discussions or SiennaClub.org, you 'll see that there are some dealers who will be selling the new Sienna for $100 over invoice beginning next month. One dealer is Trace Toyota in MS. Also, I contacted Toyota Center in Columbia, SC and they said they would have similar pricing. Not all Toyota dealers will be charging MSRP.

Just purchased an EX from Commonwealth Honda in Lawrence MA for $1800 off MSRP. I've seen postings about some shady practices there, but this was the most professional, easy car buying experience we've ever had. No scams, no lowballing. We called 5 other local dealers, none could touch their price. Most of the dealings were done over the phone. We were going to hold out for the Sienna 04' but if you look at what Honda gives you compared to Toyota (traction control is in a $1700 option package), the Odyssey is a great price. Good luck to all. We held out for 6 months on a purchase and it paid off!!!

    harryfat & robr2:
    There is no "additional work".
I bought a 90 Mazda 626 GT from Bedford, Ohio dealer in 89; an 95 Dodge GC form St Louis, MO in 84 and a 99 Honda Odyssey from Bartlesville, OK in 99. In each case I had no "extra work or costs". Each dealer prepared vehicle and paper work so I drove of with dealer's state 45 day temp tags, and I drove the vehicle to my home state, Maryland, Dept of Motor Vehicles and registered the vehicle.

Granted when we bought our 03 Pilot in state last year, vehicle registration was handled at the dealer. We still did the paper work but at the dealers instead of DMV. Not what I consider "additional work".

I shop nationwide for autos to avoid monopolistic distributors like appears happening in NJ and elsewhere. I started when I was in Hawaii where they had only one Toyota distributor - ServCo Pacific as I recall, and folks were buying from the West Coast shipping to Hawaii and still saving thousands.

...all I said is that he would probably have to take care of the paperwork himself. For some people, those forms could be considered work. No mention of additional costs or major work.

In MA, the dealer is required to complete the RMV-1 form (application for title and registration) for you. Dealers in the contiguous states may have the forms and will complete them, but if I buy a car in Florida I don't expect the dealer to have the MA form. As I noted, his insurance agent could probably help him.

Cannon4: Thanks for your reply. It is really nice to know Columbus' Odyssey price from someone who just bought one. I guess you shopped around before you deal with Honda East. Did other dealers offer you price closed to Honda East's offer? I haven't seen a Black Odyssey yet in Columbus. Do you know if they are hard to get?
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
...good for you in getting a something off MSRP at Commonwealth. My limited dealings left me with a bad feeling. I was given the AAA preferred price of MSRP plus required $3000 worth of add-ons with a 12 week wait. I was able to do an 8 week wait at MSRP when I bought at another dealer.

You mentioned before they were advertising $2000 and $3000 off. Do you know what ever became of those offers??
  • elainecurreri1elainecurreri1 Member Posts: 6
They periodically run ads and I believe they are legitimate. This past weekend when we bought, their ad just advertised 'on sale'. We weren't sure what we'd encounter with that. Perhaps it was the nasty weather! But someone else posted once on this board, they bought one when they had a '2003' dollars off. We may have lucked out because of Presidents Day, or maybe the 'climate' is changing due to new Sienna or the state of the economy. There were no extras added, they did have others on the lot, so maybe they need to move them.

I noticed last week at least 3 other MA dealers in the area advertising 1000 off (Honda of Boston, HondaNorth and I believe it was Cambrige), to things are looking better for us consumers!!

    moonkat,

I, too, need to clarify my post. When I said "more work to get some savings", I wasn't necessarily talking DMV paper work. I was referring the time/effort to contact various out of state dealers and getting quotes and coordinating delivery of the van. I'm from CA and I got quotes from as far as Ohio on phone/email 2 months ago, so it's not as simple as just walk into my local dealer and writing a check.

In addition, as I'm not willing to drive 2500 miles from Ohio to CA to bring back the new van, then I would have to arrange for a flatbed transportation on my own as some dealers I got quotes for, doesn't want to handle shipping to CA. To me that seems "extra work" to coordinate all this, but I would save $1200 if I choose this route.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone with my previous statements.

Superior honda in cincinnati also matched that price. The best deal that I got in Indy (where I live) was 28360 for EXL and dealer installed dvd. The finish and quality was not even close to the factory installed dvd. Internet sales person at Honda east made the experience as painless as possible.

I got an offer from a local Honda dealer for $1,300 off MSRP for an EX-Leather+Navigation. I told him I wanted $2,000 off MSRP, but he could not.
I told him I would rather pay full price for the 2004 Sienna with Side Curtain Airbags, which the 2003 Odyssey does not even offer.

Expecting Kid #3 in August. With 3 kids under 4, we can't fit all into the Camry anymore. Time to get an Odyssey. We are willing to fly just about anywhere for the lowest price. What are your suggestions?
  • thinkamericathinkamerica Member Posts: 2
My situation is similar to jackfam. Kid #3 on the way soon.

We just purchased a 2003 Honda Odyssey this past Friday from White-Allen Honda in Dayton, OH. $2,000 off MSRP, no haggling, and they made it super easy to buy the van. They are located in Dayton, which is about an hour's drive for me. Total time at the dealership was 20 min to sign and drive. They also have 3.74% financing.

Feel free to email me and I'll give you all the details, including our great experience there and our unpleasant experiences at other dealerships.

You should call the internet sales manager at Jay Honda in Bedford, OH. I ended up getting my EXL-RES for MSRP minus $1,800 delivered to my door for an additional $350. Although airfare from BWI to CLE was only $110, after adding food, parking at the airport and my travel time, it wasn't worth more than $350. Depends on the deals in your area what you might consider a "savings". The only additional "work" as a few people have put it, is to actually have to go to the MVA to register the new car when purchased out of state. It was worth it to me to save $500 and 8 weeks of waiting compared to the deal at the dealership near me in MD. I wanted to give it to my wife for Valentine's Day - it all worked out beautifully.

    ps. was this ok Steve?

    Jack & Think,
We are 3 over here thinking of getting an Ody. We keep holding off because everyone's BEST price over here in NJ is MSRP. If possible, if we can make it 5, maybe we can all get a great bargain. Tell me what you think? We have been shopping in NY and PA the past 2 weeks. Still haven't seen anything like the prices we hear people are getting on this forum. Dealers keep calling us, but they keep telling us MSRP, even after we tell them that if that is the case we will wait for the 04 Sienna.

Brunna, a little humor, is it only people in OH, IL, FL, WI, and MA that get a deal on the Ody's. Way the go.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Mis-read your statement. Way the go, but then again your still in OH. It seems like that is the state to go for deals.
  • bexcellbexcell Member Posts: 7
AutoFair.com is offering $1500 off MSRP on the Odyssey. They're located in Rhode Island. Also, good prices on Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, and Ford. I'm waiting to see what they offer on the new 2004 Toyota Sienna.
  • sbpceapsbpceap Member Posts: 67
When shopping for best deal, I suggest you go to dealership in person on last few days of the month, especially if you see they have some Ody's sitting on lot. Make your offer of one or two thousand off MSRP, taking hints from recent puchases posted here. If they decline, leave your name & number, tell salesperson to call you when (and ONLY when) they will meet your price. No haggling, no arguing. Then politely wish them a good night. If you can't wait a day or more to purchase your vehicle, then you lose significant negotiation power. Good luck. This worked nicely for me in purchasing an Ody in New York.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Does anyone know what fees are charge in NY & NJ. Tax is easy, 6% for NJ and 8.25% for NYC. We all know about the destination charges. What other fees are there that dealers feel they can charge, or rather what should I look out for. Also what fees should I look for that are bogus, on their financing dept.
    Hope someone can help. TXS.
After 3 months of research, I am finally getting closer and closer to that one magical deal. Wish me luck.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
We all know that Honda and Acura are DEALER options and not FACTORY options. Can some of you tell us what were some of the options you got when you purchased your Ody and how much did you pay for. PLEASE do not count those options that the dealer threw in because you might have paid MSRP on the van. Dealers over here who are still stuck on MSRP, always try to get me by saying, oh but I will give this to you for free. And it's nothing major either, it's something like a mudguard. Thank you.
  • bearpamplinbearpamplin Member Posts: 25
I have seen Ex cloth models for $25,990. Nothing added. EXL $27,750-27,500. Nothing added. $1000 off EXL RES. Nothing added. That is in Indiana. About the same or higher elsewhere.

    Anyone else...........................

They are selling them with no adds, straight off the truck from Honda, no advertising adds, no crap. You want it on there, you get dealer cost, not RETAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • ddccssddccss Member Posts: 1
We just bought an Sagebrush Pearl LX. We added the single CD Player, keyless entry, roof rack & rails, and cargo tray. We paid $24,500 for all of this. I think it works out to about $1500 under MSRP.

If someone wants to share their email address, they'll mark it "public" in their profile. You can see someone's profile by clicking on their name.

Posting email addresses in the messages is discouraged since spammers will have easy access to it - burying it in your profile offers a bit more protection, but usual disclaimers.

    Sorry.

did you get any quotes less than MSRP?
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Yes I did actually. Just the same as everyone has posted, most of the better quotes came from Ohio. Worst quotes still came out of NJ. I spoke to some of the dealers who called me to quote a price and said I was crazy to think anything below MSRP, even after I said the 04 Sienna was coming out in a matter of days. The best quote I received locally was not bad, however I haven't verified their pricing since I am on hold. If you read some of the past postings on prices quoted from OH dealers they are pretty much correct. JayHonda and also Airway were pretty good, however I would need to shell out another $300 - $700 to ship the vehicle here. I will keep everyone posted on what we finally decide after all this.

    Hey All-
Getting ready to finally get an Odyssey (after witnessing the Pilot first hand). Anyway, we're in Southern Cal and I've noticed most of the (very good) prices have been coming from the midwest or east coast.
We've got a quote of $27060 ($300 below MSRP) on an EX and it seems the best we can do. (Going through Costco and another similar buying service.) Anyone in the area know if it's beatable? I'd love to be getting some of those $1300 off MSRP!
    Thanks!
    Sean

We are in the Midwest. They are selling EX cloth Odysseys for $25,990 here in Southern Indiana. Sticker is $27,360. No adds to the vehicle, straight from Honda (Alabama).
  • mike386mike386 Member Posts: 4
My latest quotes for Ody Leather/DVD most 28,360 and one or 28,260. Still not good enough! The price has been dropping consistently for the last 4 -6 weeks. I do my entire price quote via email no phone calls and wasting my time at dealerships. If a dealer doesn’t want to converse via email move on. I see that as a bad start and more to come. My best advise to all just wait we have time on our sides. With the economy down the tubes, unemployment at a high, homes up for foreclosure, gas prices and war Iraq and North Korea it’s a buyers market so sit back and relax. Let not forget about the 04 Sienna (Side Curtain Airbags).

The dealer will also tell you “The resale value is so good” Have He/She put it in writing what they will give you for it in 3,4 and 5 years. It won't happen, they only tell you what you want to hear. Good Luck be Strong

Everyone has read all these postings of best pricing as MSRP. Even with the 04 Sienna coming out. Here is what was offered to me. EX cloth, $25590 ($25130+$460). If you looked at invoice ($24,663) this deal was $927 above it. If you look at MSRP (27,360) this deal was $1770 below it. The only thing they threw in with the van were the cross bars, but I should not get greedy. After all I've read of positngs here where they were quoted $2k off of MSRP, however in my case I would have to fly out to Ohio or pay to have it shipped here, which would bring the the discounted price up higher than what I received. The way I see it is that any discount that I could get was still better than any of the NJ offers I was getting. To get the discount at where it is was even a bonus. To get something free was just a double bonus. I hope this is not my ship coming in, because I would have preferred for my ship to be a Powerball ticket.
The dealership was Hillside Honda, over at Jamaica Queens NY. You may contact me for the names of the people I dealt with.
Unfortunately for me, we ended on a hold status because my wife's position was not too secure as of this week. Dealer could not promise the same deal, but would try if anything changes in the near future.
  • orangehborangehb Member Posts: 8
We ended up with an Ody this evening! Yeah!
After browsing through a few earlier pages' worth of posts, I noticed someone mentioned Long Beach Honda selling/advertising them for $1k below MSRP. Definitely the best deal in SoCal.
So... I go to their website to get a quote which arrived in my email box w/in minutes and true enough, all their Ody prices were $1k below sticker. The kicker was that the price didn't include any already installed dealer options. That was a red flag for me, so I went down to the dealership to figure out what the options were that I was sure every car on the lot would have.
Well, it turns out Long Beach Honda puts a clear coat (essentially a $50 wax job) and a fabric coating on all of their cars and adds $1k into their cost for this. Needless to say, I wasn't about to even spend the time haggling over it. I have to say though, luckily for me, 2 silver Odys were pulled off the truck right before I got there (one EX, the other EX-L Navi) that were still wrapped in plastic with none of that clear coat junk on them. I told the internet sales guy that if he honored the internet price and didn't put the clear coat on, he had a deal.
To that end, we got the deal we wanted (best I've heard of west of Ohio) and a better rate than the credit union could offer: 4.49%! While I'm glad I didn't have to deal with haggling over the clear coat, I do have to say that my entire experience was extremely pleasing at Long Beach Honda. The sales guy was nothing but info and no pressure in finance. Very good all around.

Does anyone here have any experience/advice on buying/owning a Canadian manufactured Odyssey?
    Thanks for your imput.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Are you asking about a Canadian made for the US market unit or a unit made for the Canadian market? Up until last year, all Odys were made in Canada for both markets. Now there is a plant in Alabama as well.

Canadian market Odys do not carry any warranty in the US if resold as a gray market vehicle. There have been discussions ad nauseum about it. You may want to search on "gray market" and "Canada" here at Edmunds.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Since you mentioned that purchasing a Canadian Marketed Ody for use in USA will void the warranty. We as consumers TRUST that the dealers are selling us vehicles that they did not purchase from the guy on the corner. Is there anything that we can do to verify that the vehicle we are getting was made for US use?
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
There is something in the VIN number that indicates Canadian market. I don't recall the specifics.

Also, Canadian market units have some features not found in US market units:

heated mirrors - there is a switch to operate them in the power mirror switch

the odo/speedo will be in km as opposed to mph

on the EX and higher, the temp display on the HVAC is in celius - the highest adjustment should be 80 F

lastly is the warranty offered "even better than the normal Honda warranty"? There's the biggest hint.

    Good Luck in your quest.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
CarFax should report "Honda of USA" or similar in various spots on their report; esp. under the "recalls" section. There's also a "Built to Non U.S. Standards Record" paragraph on a CarFax report, but most Canadian cars meet US standards anyway I think.

The VIN will indicate country of manufacture, but I don't think it shows what country it was built for....

I gave my word I would not go into details on my deal. I will say, I’m very happy with the price. If your not getting the deal you want don’t buy it. No guarantees but if your getting the run around email the Internet department at Vandergriff Honda in Arlington, TX.

I wasn’t impressed with one of the vehicle service reps. I had a question/ concern and he a chip on his shoulder as if I was bothering him. I don’t think the rest are like him. I do plan to express this with Honda when they call.

I am looking into prices now but am far from getting one. I have to wait out a lease on a 2002 Trailblazer first . I am really researching this now because I HATE the truck I am in now and am counting the days till I can really shop for something new. I like the honda mini van with the leather and DVD player. I was just wondering if anyone had a round about price in this area of what you are paying . I will put at least 2,000.00 down as a down payment. I only lease because we love to travel with it and 3 years is enough for one car. I am paying well over $400.00 a month now so any info is helpful. Thanks
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
I am not to0 keen on leasing, however I can fill you in on my research as far as pricing is concerned. If you are looking for pricing now, for closing the deal in the 3rd or 4th quarter of the year, I believe your pricing will be very over-estimated. Dealers from the NY-NJ area are for the most part still selling this van at MSRP.
Several things will play in your favor, depending as when your current lease is up. First is that the 04 Sienna will be coming out in a matter of days. It is predicted to take over the #1 spot. I have heard of rumors of people placing orders already. People are anticipating that the new Sienna will bring the Ody. pricing down. Honda will also be re-designing the Ody. for 2004. So if you are shopping towards the 3rd quarter of the year, you pricing the van now will be very over-estimated. In my near experience, dealers in the midwest have already fullfilled all their Ody. orders, where in the NY-NJ area they are still placing customers on a waiting list.
If you want a detailed listing of which dealers gave me what in our area, email me and I will send you the list.

As per my posting #3425, we talked it over, and there was only so much we can do, and wait as long as we can. The more my wife spoke about it, the more we realized that the purchase was more of a necessity than a luxury (if you can call it that). So we did it, we jump in full heartedly. They honored the pricing that the salesman and I had hammered out. PLUS yesterday (Saturday) the dealership was running a special on anyone walking in that day and taking it home would receive a new Huffy mountain bike. I would doubt that these were anything of spectacular models, but as we all know, anything we can get, $$ or gifts, for buying this van, makes the deal more sweeter. I did not receive the bike yet, they were still talking it over since the color we wanted, Midnight Blue, would not be in for a few weeks. I argued that, that was night my fault. Anyway, they said if they couldn't get me the bike, they would just throw in something else. To tell you the truth, I would rather get the cargo mat, and mudguards instead of the bike.
WOW, I can't believe I am getting so excited. I can't wait. The last time I felt like this was the first time I bought a brand new car. I guess this makes me a full fledge family man. Or do I still need the dog?
  • bearpamplinbearpamplin Member Posts: 25
All the dealers in the midwest are selling under MSRP 1000-1500 dollars. Hope this helps. The new Sienna is sticker and there is suppossed to be a new Odyssey out this fall?????????
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Since there has been a few postings lately in regards purchasing / leasing towards the end of the year, I thought it might be an interesting question to ask all of you about this. We all know by that time of the year the 04 Sienna hype will be in full throtle, we also know that there will be a NEW 04 Ody. Some people of recent couldn't resist the deals on the 03 Sienna, I believe they were getting something like $2k below invoice. My question is: from your experience / knowledge, how much of a discount do you think people will be getting towards the end of the year if they were to consider getting a 03 Ody?
  • imhip2imhip2 Member Posts: 30
Point me to the source. My sources say new ody in 05 and since I haven't seen new 04 Ody at any of the car shows (Detroit, Chicago, Toronto). There was the 04 Freestar, 04 Sienna and 04 Villager. I suspect it won't be till 05 that we see the new Ody.

With the 04 Sienna hitting the showroom today, now is the time to buy that new 03 Ody. I hate having the old looking model but if I'm right it won't be old looking in 6 months but rather 18.
  • hondaguy9hondaguy9 Member Posts: 64
depending on where in the area (tax rate) you should expect around 400-415 for that van. I just ran it for you and that is it. 36 months/12k/2k down
