I worked with Rick Moulden at the Superior Honda Dealership in Cincinnati, OH...he could not have made the process any easier. Most of the negotiating was done over the phone!
Hopefully this is the beginning of a trend. I'll probably wait see the new Toyota, but if the price on Ody drops a lot.....
24,800. $1300 savings isnt bad in itself for
a base model, but I also got the dealer installed
keyless entry included in the price (a $300 retail
item). This was at Buckeye Honda in Lancaster
Ohio.
A little tip....there are MANY hungry salesmen
in the Columbus Ohio area (Honda East, Hugh White
Honda, Hinderer Honda). If you're looking for
an Odyssey in this area, I highly suggest you
play these 4 dealers off of eachother. You will
have no problem beating my deal.

I would be very grateful
I'm looking at about 2500 down with 3/36
Thanks for all your help

Just words of advice, I've seen it all happen. Buy here, work here, live here, get favors here.
As for your "purchasing dealer" giving you preferential treatment, as rainbow24 suggests, is largely false. I buy my new Honda's at the dealer that will give me the best price, period. I take that car to my local Honda dealer, and they give me the same level of service for vehicles I have purchased at that dealership.
I have several friends and relatives that own Honda's, and never heard of this type of preferential or discriminatory treatment.
Bottom line - go for the best deal. Car salesmen like to perpetuate this myth that you will only get good service at the dealership if you buy the car there.
I've bought my last 2 Hondas at one dealer near home and service at one near my office. Never have I been given poor service treatment because I bought elsewhere. Rather, the preferential treatment I get from my servicing dealer is due to my being a regular customer with normal expectations. I am courteous to the service writers and ensure them high marks on their surveys (because I can honestly do so). If I am going to miss a service appointment, I call them to reschedule. They always offer me special prices and ensure my vehicles are taken care of or advise me of any delay.
Basically I treat them right, they treat me right.
The couple of times I tried my selling dealer, they acted like they could care less about me. The most offensive part was the express oil change they offer: "Bring it in on Tuesday at 1:45 PM". "I can't bring it at that time, can I leave the car at 8 AM and pick up in the evening?" "No, oil changes are done by appointment only".
In other words, there is a little, tiny, tiny bit better treatment where you buy your car, no discrimination.
From what I've read around Town Hall, often service departments are separate profit centers from the new and used car departments at many dealers and could care less where you bought the car from. They just want your business. And a couple of my best dealer experiences have been on road trips.
This doesn't mean that a doughnut bribe wouldn't hurt either.

I bought my EX-L (Leather) for 26360$ plus ttl (2500$ off MSRP) two weeks ago. You can easily get 2000$ off MSRP in Chicago.
or surrounding areas?
It all good!

2007 Honda Civic EX - Atomic Blue
2013 Honda Civic LX - Crimson Pearl
My husband and I have just gotten serious about finding an Odyssey and have found your message board extremely helpful as far as getting guidance for prices. Hopefully we can find a good deal as well.

When I was at the sales manager's office I saw a board with all salesman statistics and prices for the cars they sold. There were at least 4 Odysseys EXL sold for 26860$ ( 2000$ off MSRP). I guess I just got lucky ( right place, right time ) to get my price ( 2500$ off MSRP)
This board was really helpful in my negotiations, I feel I need to return the favor, by posting my results.
Aloha1973.
Pretty big hassle right now, even if you could find a dealer willing to sell you a new Odyssey.

So far in the WA area, dealers have either quoted MSRP or above. Haven't had any luck yet on getting to drop below MSRP. But I haven't tried very hard. But so far the Canadian deal looks like the way I'll go.
Here's a horror story to chew on for those thinking of an older van - for happier results, try the Nissan Pathfinder discussion up through mid '02 or so (lofquist "Nissan Pathfinder" Jul 18, 2002 4:33pm). Lots of people got Pathys in Toronto and saved thousands. Nissan has since clamped down though.
Please keep us posted Kgnw1 on how things work out with your friend (and you!).

While I was doing the walk around prior to acceptance on Saturday I noticed some dirt under the color coat right next to the passenger side door handle. I look closer and there's more problems all around there and additional issues on other panels. The salesman tells me no problem, they will take care of it and if it takes longer than a day, they will supply the rental. The service man says...oh, you need approval of a rental to the salesman. Make an appointment they say. Foolish me, I drive off with the car. I call them to let them know I am coming in and ask if arrangements been made for a rental. After 9 calls, surprise, no rental. I talk to the sales manager and he tells me they will take me home. Come in at 9 so that he can take care of me he tells me. I can live with that. I take the day off from work. Go in yesterday and after an hour waiting for my ride, no ride home. Now they tell me to bring it in again sometime next week. Whenever its best for me. I ask them to set a date, they won't, phone calls have to be made. Well, I can wait for a phone call. No, its always done with voice mail. Not even a try. So it turns out they will let me know when its best for me. The internet manager ignored my voicemessages and pages two days ago. One salesman told me that he was looking at him and after he took down my phone number, I was transfered to the parts dept. He said that he was sorry for not returning my calls when I walk into his office, leads me outside and turns into my best buddy.
The point is that I seem to get better service at the Toyota dealer where I paid 100 dollars over invoice. They have loaners if you make arrangements. When I drove in without an appointment, they drove me to a rental place and picked up the tab. I don't remember any phone call issues there.
