What do you think???
You posted a question on buying a 03 Ody versus Sienna. I think it'd be hard for anyone to answer that question without knowing your family needs. I, too, is shopping for a minivan and I prefer the 03 Ody because we wanted the fold down seats and we like the size of Ody versus Sienna. But obviously as we all know, there's a premium to be paid if we buy the Ody. If the 03 Sienna fits your needs, then obviously that's a good bargain as Toyota is clearing out inventory for the 04 Sienna that's coming in 2 months with discounts and rebates.
If you're willing to gamble, then you can wait 2 months as they should have even bigger dealer discounts to move the 03 when the 04 arrives. But then you may not get the equipment/color you want. So it all depends on what you want/need.
If you prefer the Odyssey, look back at some earlier posts and you can get $2000 off MSRP at some Ohio dealers. I live in CA where MSRP is the standard for the Odyssey, so that $2000 off remains an option for me. If you can wait 2 months, then maybe your local Honda dealers might have discounts when the 04 Sienna arrives. As I have already seen price concessions on couple local Honda dealers since January after Toyota announced 04 Sienna is coming. Competition is good. So now I'm just waiting to see what happens next few months when the 04 Sienna arrives as we don't need the van until summer.
It all depends on your personal needs and timing.
Contact Joe Mitcheolitti of BURNS HONDA , Marlton , NJ. You should easily get more than $ 1500 of MSRP.
I got mine EX-L in Dec from him.
Good Luck
Was your trade-in included with that? I would definately buy the EX-L for $1500 off MSRP. Can I tell Joe that you sent me and what you paid for yours?
Lastly, dealership pushes a window etching program for security, but they don't etch VIN number, its some 3rd party code. If I'd had advnace warning, I would've researched this and asked my insurance agent. I've only read about etching VIN numbers as AAA has such a program in our area. Makes more sense to me to use a number police can access in real time on their mobile computers tapping into DMV database. I passed on the third party program but I would like to do VIN etching. Any strong advice/opinions on this issue?
I am not in need of car until July and this will take about 3-4 weeks for delivery already...Not sure if I should just wait and renegotiate in June or take it and run?
I'd like to start by saying I worked every dealer within 2 hours of Northern Virgina and ended up buying our new 2003 Ody EX-L w/ RES from Dennis Jenkins at Jay Honda in Bedford, Ohio for $1750 under MSRP. Also, the difference in the "processing fees" was also about $200+ (NoVA $200-$290 vs. $50 for Jay Honda) for a close to $2k savings. All the dealers in the NoVA area are in my opinion still playing up the "mystique" in the Ody to not budge from MSRP (more like have you negotiate down to MSRP) and with only a couple back and forth emails/phone calls to Dennis we settled on the price above. Interesting enough I have to thank Landmark Honda in Alexandria, VA for not budging from $250 over MSRP to MSRP because at first after looking all around here I was almost resolved to pay MSRP. Then, when my deal with Landmark fell through (I walked because they wouldn't come down $250 to MSRP...?!#$!) I did more digging and found out about Jay Honda from this discussion board. Several others posted they had good experiences and I would like to stronly reiterate the same! I had an excellent overall experience including a fair price, getting the model I wanted 2 weeks earlier than expected because he was able to do a dealer trade for the same exact model (plus I got free wheel locks to boot from it), and a good review of all the features, etc. I told him I was going to post on here so if you're reading this post Dennis, thanks man! My guess is that it's possible that he might even be able to go more than $1750 below but honestly I had such a good experience that it was worth giving up $250 or so to say thanks in a way.
So, give get a hold of Dennis if you're looking for a good price. It was worth the $100 plane ticket there! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he also covered my taxi fare from Cleveland Hopkins airport to the dealership. It was only $32 but hey it's small things like that that make for a good buying experience.
Lastly, to all us NoVA folks, let's start spreading the word and getting people to buy them out of state. Not only will they save $$$ but it will send a message to the dealers around here that they need to start wheelin' a little.
Cheers all,
tim
Thanks for the information. That is an excellent deal. I actually live in Southeastern Virginia, specifically Virginia Beach area. I would guess that Bedford, Ohio is over 7 hours away, but I may still email them and ask for Dennis. The best deal I have been offered down here is $650 under MSRP. The other issue with me is I would like to trade in our SUV. If I could get a similiar deal, I would probably try to sell my SUV on my own. Thanks again. RC
Questions - Did it have a CD player? Did it have alloy wheels?
Bottom line, that combination totals an MSRP of $25264. $22893 implies $2371 OFF MSRP (INVOICE is $22417+keyless&install). VERY GOOD DEAL!!!
This is what I was expecting to see after the 04 Sienna was introduced... Then again, I think we are about to go to war...
2004 Honda Accord EX-L Graphite Pearl
2007 Honda Civic EX - Atomic Blue
2013 Honda Civic LX - Crimson Pearl
I just found my notes from the dealership and it looks like I was a little off. The total before tax is $23,291 and not $22893 as I earlier reported ($398 more). I still think, and tell me if you think I am wrong, that this is still a good deal. What makes me so mad is that $1295 of it is the cost for the "performance package" which is garbage to me. They won't take it off. I am going to try and negotiate other dealer added options that have more value to me. I live in Florida, I don't need mud flaps. The door guards and wheel well guards they use are about 1 cm wide.
I am trying to make a smart decision while heading into what could be an even worse economy. I am buying this LX and putting some cash into it so that if I have to sell it I will be in a great equity position and then I can go buy a Huyandi or something...Can you tell I am always thinking of worse case scenario??!!!
Any input appreciated on my deal...I wonder if I should wait since I don't need a car until July??? I am scared to pass this up.
I think I am going to wait until I see the 2004 Sienna before I pull the trigger. I have three kids and having the split 3rd bench is something I find VERY attractive, nonetheless, CASH IS KING! The best "deal" will get my business. For comparison puposes, the 04 BASE Sienna will sticker just under $23000.
If I were sold on the Honda, I would make this deal... As long as I could get the Midnight Blue!
Good Luck!
2004 Honda Accord EX-L Graphite Pearl
2007 Honda Civic EX - Atomic Blue
2013 Honda Civic LX - Crimson Pearl
I just want to make certain before I call Joe. Joe gave you $1,300 off the price $28,860 (MSRP & Destination). Did this include a Trade-in of the Corolla?
What were their document and misc. fees?
Thanks!!
and i bought the warranty from Outside
To nj_oddy_buyer:
Thank you again for the original referral! How much did I waste by accepting the warranty at $982? Did you go to one of the earlier posts on this board to purchase it? [I'll admit to being worn down by the long back and forth over 3rd party etching number and caving because my two four-year-old boys were acting up by this point and husband had to get to work back in North Jersey--that was probably my fault for deviating from my plan to wait to purchase an extended warranty later.]
I paid $ 875 on 12/31/02, But I think that prices went up 1/1/2003. You might have spent may be 70 - 80 $ more , but OVERALL got a good deal.
Check my prev post from whoom I bought (some in CA)
thanks
Oh well looks like we got to find a different dealership.
pricing on Sienna 2004:
CE $22,955 $950 less than 2003
LE (7) $24,260 $1,495 less than 2003
LE (8) $24,410
LE AWD $27,875
XLE FWD $28,260 $248 more than 2003
XLE AWD $31,465
Ltd FWD $34,480
Ltd AWD $36,930
So let me get this straight... I paid $29,318 for my Ody EX-L + NAV (including Dest). A Sienna XLE Ltd FWD is $34,480 so Honda is going to drop their shorts to invoice...Uhhh I don't think so. The XLE FWD at $28,260 is a good price point but it is not loaded like the Ltd...
I will be reviewing new Sienna for purchase (second car). Thanks for the pricing. No thanks for the stupid hyperbole...
Superior Honda (Cincinnati, Ohio). This is where I acquired the vehicle from w/terms as follows: 36 month/45,000 mile lease (through Honda Lease Trust), 0 down, 0 security deposit, $419.99 per month payment (includes Indiana monthly sales tax of 23.27), at signing paid first payment of $419.99 + $9.95 Ohio license plate fee. Total out of pocket for three year lease term is $15,129.59. Lease terms based upon $28,150 initial cap ($2210 off MSRP) + Honda acquisition fee of $550 and 61% residual. My salesmen was Rick Moulden who could not have made the process any easier (see also post # 3273 by molson5). Rick was very responsive to my phone calls and concerns. Overall the best experience I have ever had with a dealership.
Thompsons Honda in Terre Haute, Indiana ($28,150 sales price quote) and Hidy Honda in Beavercreek, Ohio ($27,900 selling price + $50 doc fee, but slightly higher on the back-end of the lease) ended up being very close on price. Joe Mrdja was very friendly at Thompsons Honda. The individuals at Hidy Honda I was working with were extremely pushy and somewhat uncooperative (openly complaining that they each were only making $37.50 on the deal!!!).
Found Tom O'Leary at Cincinnati East Honda to be very helpful. Easily spent 3 + hours working with me ($28,300 selling price quote) before conceading he could not compete w/my other offers. Was willing to FedEx contract, etc. out for my review.
Indianapolis dealers: Best quote was $1,500 off MSRP. Honda West would only go $1,000 off and had exactly what I wanted on their lot!!!
Overall, found best deals being offered in Ohio. For those in the market, probably well worth a plane ticket/gas to pick up one of these vans in Cincinnati as opposed to paying too much.

It gets old trying to keep track of the touts, so we ask that you just mention the dealer.
If you want to know who the best person at a dealer is, just call and ask the receptionist who answers the phone. She/he will know (per former salesperson, Cliffy1).

No I'm not from Florida, I'm from the Cleveland, Ohio area. I acutally had two dealerships offering the same thing, I just keep going back and forth with them thru email and a few phone calls.
The dealership is Park Honda in Akron, Ohio.
While I noticed that they have put several accessories on some of the vans, they do not push them and will sell you a van without all the little add ons. However it was nice to see what a few looked like with some of the touches.
I am happy with the deal and very happy with the dealer. If in the Chicago area, call over to Crystal Lake Honda in Crystal Lake Illinois.
What was your trade and how much did you ask for?
How did you arrive at trade value?
Thanks
John
Let me tell you my position, there are three of us, 2 looking into the EX, 1 looking into the EX-L. We must have contacted 12 dealers throughout NJ, every single one came back with what they called their best price, this was MSRP. All had the little footnotes which said, don't worry come back to me with your best price and I will beat it. There was nothing to beat, everyone was MSRP. We were very upset that buying 3 would not make any salesman push for a great price.
No the 3 of us are waiting for the 04 Sienna, and see who will give us a better offer.
Again, to thos who got a great deal, way the go I congratulate you. Our wives would haved loved to be driving around with it now, but we could not get ourselves to pay MSRP knowing we did most of the dealers selling by us doing our homework.
If you look back couple months on this post, there's someone else from NJ who bought from Ohio at a big discount and had the van shipped to NJ.
I guess NJ Honda dealers still haven't discounted the Ody yet. Here in CA, two months ago I couldn't get a dealer to sneeze on me when I asked for $200 off MSRP. Now after the 04 Sienna has been introduced, I begin to see below MSRP prices around here with some dealers.
I'd think if you can wait for couple more months after the 04 Sienna actually hit the dealers' showrooms (due to show up next month) and the Toyota marketing machine start to crank out the TV commercials/ads for the new Sienna, you should get some price movement on the Odyssey in your area.
But if you look at the Sienna board, you will also see the next few months the new Sienna will sell at MSRP also as it's perceived to be a hot van. So if money is an issue, I'd still think the 03 Ody will be cheaper than the 04 Sienna.
Maybe I am stupid, (you can laugh) but we are hoping to pin the Ody and the Sienna against each other and who ever gives us a better price wins our business.
Another question too is that, when you buy from out of state, aren't you left with the burden of going to the DMV for all the paper works and also to handle the sales tax on your own.
Conecille Honda was 500 below ...
let me know where u got the best deal and may be I will also buy from them:)
As for buying out of state, you would probably have to do the registration paper work yourself. Back in the old days (before processing fees) we always used to do that ourselves. Your insurance agent may be able to help with the forms.
The 04 Sienna will probably be a hot seller as well and will go for MSRP as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see some people settle for Ody's at MSRP in some places.
Good Luck in your decision.
