I am looking to buy in NJ within the next week or so, any good dealers to suggest? I am getting up to $500 off MSRP but am looking for more. Any help would be appreciated.

nj area is not good for getting good prices. look into ohio for your best deals and even with shipping will come out around $1000 better than NJ

For dealers near Atlanta, GA, the best offer I've received for a new 2003 Odyessey EX was about $1,350 off MSRP. Anyone find a better deal than that within about 50 miles of Atlanta or Macon, GA?
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
I can help you. At least I can tell who screwed with me, and who gave a honest but MSRP offer.
Just email me and I can email you my essay about these theives, I mean salesman. :)

This group has been a tremendous help to me. Just thought I would share the price I paid last week. I got a Ody EX-L for $26,400+TTL.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Your pricing works out to be $2460 below MSRP. Some of us in other areas, are just hoping for $1700. Can you tell us which part of the country did you get such an outrageous deal. For you to get that, you did great.
  • chowmaumau1chowmaumau1 Member Posts: 4
I got my car in Texas. I had to negotiate pretty hard to get the deal. Thanks for the compliment.

Hi dtd98, we haven't decided which one to buy yet. We like the 8-p LE sienna if the price is right. We're going to wait for the summer time to see more discounts. (looking for Ody MSRP-$2000 or sienna invoice+2%, hopefully we'll see this price in Bay area.)

Thanks for all the info this board has provided. Jay Honda has given me the best price so far (far better than the dealers in the Twin Cities) and I'm thinking of buying from him and having it shipped. Has anyone bought from JayHonda in Ohio? Good/bad experience? Also, someone had mentioned some great prices in the Chicago area, does anyone know which dealer? that distance is drivable for me, where buying from Ohio would require shipping...thanks
  • dtd98dtd98 Member Posts: 21
    Hi navier ,
It looks like you and I are in the same boat.Right now the best price I can get for the Sienna is 7% over invoice. I want 5% or less. If I know for sure that the all-new Ody comes out this Fall then I will wait for it .Otherwise I think you can get the Sienna for 5% over invoice by this summer. But if you can get it at 2% over invoice in the Bay area , please let me know.

i bought and had the car driven to nj last december from jay honda. best experience i ever had buying. contact me for more details if you wish.

I did not want to mention this until I was certain that the deal would go through. We asked a lot from the dealer, not just in pricing but also to prove that he was serious about his offer. He finally proved it with a form filled out with our information, correct pricing and a VIN #. Final discount $1900 below MSRP for EXL RES for a price of $28460. Several things fell to our favor, end of month and end of quarter. They just happened to have the vehicles getting delivered tomorrow. Deal came directly from the owner. And we are picking up all THREE vans this Saturday.
I know $1900 is nothing to brag like what the others have been getting, but for NY, NJ and PA area this was AMAZING. Farleyk can back me up that we really pushed these guys to prove themselves to us.
Dealership was Yonkers Honda. I can email you the salesman who helped close the deal.
I can tell you first email encounter with the owner was last Friday, another 6 emails during the weekend, and tonight we signed off on the offer. Spent a total of 30 mintues at the dealership.
    PLEASANT PLEASANT PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.

Hey guys, I want to thank you for every little information, useful and not, I receive from everyone here and help made the experience more calm. In the end, I have made some friends, and have made some enemies (dealers), never the less, it was a growing and informative experience.
To those buying in Ohio, I also have to thank you, if not for your discounts, I might have just grabed the first offer, but I had to insist on my discount and persisted and finally got it.
I look forward to picking up the Ody on Sat.

  • harryfatharryfat Member Posts: 132
    Congrats, Norman.

In the 3 months I have been lurking around this board, you are the most persistent person on working a great deal in getting this van. At $1900 off, you came out smelling like a rose as the Ody was at MSRP just 3 months ago before Christmas in many areas, except for the Ohio/Texas regions.

Many of us want to thank you for the spreadsheet you did on comparing the features of Ody versus 04 Sienna. Too bad there's no picture posting capability at these boards or else you can show us your new beauty.

And I had held out hopes that we all would be flying to Boise to meet up with the host Steve to get great Honda deals out there as he says it's big 3 country out there. Oh, well. Maybe next time when you upgrade to the new Lexus RX330 that's coming out April 1.

On your final price you mentioned, did you include the destination charge of $460?
Or were you able to get that waived off?
With excise tax of 6.4% in Texas, your Tag, Title, and Tag will be about $1800?
My fried just bought a Hilander for $28K and her TTT was about $2,000.
I'm glad the excise tax in Oklahoma is only 3.25%, Tag of $90 for new car, and Title of $11.

In January 2003, I started looking for a 2003 Honda Odyssey EX-L RES (rear entertainment system or DVD). The MSRP is $30,360 including destination.

On January 29, 2003 (the last Wednesday of the month), I faxed a request-for-quotes to 26 dealers in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and my home state of Delaware. Whew!!! I did not fax my 2 closest local dealers (Union Park Honda in Wilmington, DE and Martin Honda in Newark, DE). I wanted to give the local dealers a chance to counter the best "long distance" offer in exchange for letting them know that I would be bringing the vehicle in to them for service (and saving myself perhaps a long distance trip to pick up the vehicle)

I received 10 responses to my fax within 3 hours (most responses were by phone). I received a total of 15 responses within 24 hours, 11 didn't respond at all for a response rate of 58%. 6 or 7 dealers were still quoting MSRP+. New Jersey and Maryland dealers seemed to be the worst on price. The best quote I got back was $28,500 ($1,860 below MSRP) from Frederick Honda in Hershey, PA. I relayed this quote to the two local dealers. They did not meet or beat that quote...initially.

I used a credit card to make a deposit with Frederick Honda. Delivery was scheduled for February... then mid March... then late March. I was starting to get worried (I never asked for a VIN#), but in the meantime, I received a phone call Union Park who said they had my exact vehicle on the lot and would sell it for $28,400 ($1,041 over invoice / $1,960 below MSRP) -- beating the best offer by $100. The deal was completed on March 15th 2003. No pressure, and Union Park let me charge $3000 to my credit card to get those bonus miles!

Maybe I was able to score a good deal since I was told after the deal closed that they had 3 Sage Ody's on their lot (somehow due to the recent snows)

Feel free to email me (stinky_bokinky@SPAM.SUXyahoo.com)if you wanna chat -- you can figure out what to remove.

Talk about agressive and smart buying!
    Congratulations on a great buy!
    Enjoy your new Odyssey.
Just out of curiousity, did you consider the '04 Sienna?

If you bought a car this weekend, a national news service wants to hear from you asap. Please send a note with your daytime contact info and some basic details on your new vehicle asap no later than March 27 to jfallon@edmunds.com.

Boise is Big 3 truck country, but I haven't actually priced any minivans here, domestic or otherwise. I'd guess it's more of a buyer's market here than on the coasts though, though I'm just guessing (gotta play w/TMV and the zipcodes).

But I'm in Alaska this week and couldn't have met you for coffee anyway :-)

On 3/25/03 I ordered an Odyssey EX-L NAVI with the following options:
6 disc changer, Roof rack, Cargo cover, Cargo mat, Mudguards from
Honda Carland Roswell, GA. Drive out price $32600.00.
All price negotiations where done through email.
Got my pricing info at consumersreports.org. I was told it would take
6 – 8 weeks to take delivery. My wife wanted Havasu Blue but we were told Honda stopped using that color in March/03. So we opted for Red.
  • chowmaumau1chowmaumau1 Member Posts: 4
The $460 charge was included or waived depending on how you view it. So my walk out price was $26,400 before TTL. The TTL was about $1800.

    IT'S A GREAT VEHICLE!
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
9gikeve5, is there anything you didn't get? Just kidding! Where will the dealer put the CD changer? Will they remove the CD player/AM/FM radio? Did you get the extended warranty? How much discount did you get on the whole deal?
Chowmaumau1, looks like you got the best deal of anyone on your Odyssey! Congrat and enjoy!

2003 Sagebrush EXL in inventory $26,800 plus TT+L. Brian Adams with Goodson Honda North)$2060 below MSRP.

2003 Sagebrush EXL with John Eagle Price at $27,161.00 plus TT&L is only $1700 below MSRP. and they are pretty proud of THAT PRICE.

I am still looking for a local dealer that will go invoice ($24,663 + destination charge) but that sure is not looking likely. tthhbb difficult dealers.
  • 9gikeve59gikeve5 Member Posts: 2
Andrewtran71, the only options I didn't get were the DVD and wheels. I'm not sure where the CD changer is going to go. I'm undecided about the extended warranty. But with the past years transmission problems (99-02) it is probably a good idea. I was negotiating with 6 dealers over email. I stuck with the Consumers Reports new car price list numbers I bought on their web site and found a good deal. Dealers set their own prices for options and I found that they very as much as $300. The CD changer had the biggest price difference. I can't wait to take delivery.

"the only options I didn't get were the DVD and wheels"

damn those honda dealers.. they sold u a van w/o wheels! no wonder you got a good deal:)

Now how do u plan to take ur new odessey home?
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
    You crack me, man!
    Very funny.
The Navigation system is very cool, and I think 9gikeve5 will enjoy that tremendously. It's so cool I leave it turned on all the time when I drive, especially at night.
One other option I got was the chrome license plate frame.
As far as wheels, the EX-L NAV already comes with alluminum alloy wheels, so 9gikeve5 must have upgraded to something fancier.

My family just got 03' Ody EXL-RES from Classic Honda (Streetboro, OH)in Mar. 15. Through the internet quote, the dealer offered me $500 over the invoice with any models. With lots of curiousity, we finally met with her and got the van what we wanted. The location of the dealer is in the east suburbance of Cleveland. I believe they still have lots left and should be willing to make a good quote, similar to what we just got.

My wife and I are looking at an Odyssey ex-L DVD and I am curious if anyone has priced them in western NY. I have gotten offers 1200-1500 below MSRP. Also, has anyone ever used Buyers Edge for product pricing? Thanks in advance.

If that is what you got at first shot, what is there to complain about. That seems to be a very good deal for someone just walking in. I have this odd feeling that this week is the week of deals. Just a gut feeling is that they are trying to push volume for end of month and end of quarter. Are they extending that offer to colors not in inventory?
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
I know I asked a similar question before, but I thought you might have additional input. This message also concerns farleyk. Here is the inside info on our vehicles. As per Honda, vehicles were placed on rail March 14. They were unloaded on the 25th. ETA is April 1.
Dealer is pushing us to closed the deal this weekend. However we can't if there are no vans. We have instructed them that if we can not do it this weekend, it has to be done next weekend. Placing the orders under Aprils numbers and not March.
I am concerned about if we can't meet the deadline what will happened to our offer, but that is another story.
My question is, do you know from experience how good are these eta? Granted it is just that E T A. However, are they likely to come early or late?
    Dealer desitination is Yonkers NY.

Anyone know of any good deals in any of these states. Locals don't seem to want to work with us.
  • blandfordmblandfordm Member Posts: 54
I had asked this before, but got no response, so I'm trying again. Has anyone found a better deal than about $1,350 off MSRP for a new 2003 Odyessey EX within about 50 miles of Atlanta or Macon, GA? If so, please let me know where, so I can try to get a better deal than I've found so far.

I haven't seen any posts by bearpamplin in a while. Bearpamplin seems to be very knowledgable and honest. Where is he? Perhaps the host can help?
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
andrewtran71, maybe bear got lost, he should have gotten a Navi. :) Just kidding around. I thought it was the perfect line for you since you seem to love your navi more than anything else.
  • med28med28 Member Posts: 17
Yes, it was actually for none on the lot. All are due for delivery in April. And I wasn't complaining, just interested in what others had experienced.

    J.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
Yes, bearpamplin decided not to get NAV because his girlfriend recommended that he didn't. I think the Honda Accord EX-V6 with black leather and Navigation system is totally awesome. Perhaps he is regreting that decision a little. My wife recommended not getting the navigation system too, but I told her "If we're buying this Odyssey minivan, I don't care what anybody says, I'm getting the Navigation system even if it's just a $2,000 toy!" I guess I told her. No, just kidding. If I wanted something bad enough, my wife would never even try to stop me from buying it. Hey, I got the Lexus for myself, didn't I?
But yes, the Navigation system rules! I've lived in Oklahoma City for 24 years, and I know just about every corner and street in this metro area, so of course, I don't realy need the NAV. But Damn it, it is the coolest thing out there. I love driving at night and seeing that beautiful thing glow in the dark. It shows the small creek water, ponds, and lakes as I drive by. It shows everything. It even shows the car in front of me----just kidding.
I told my wife that every car we buy in the future must have the NAV.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
med28 (J), relax, I just think you did pretty good for yourself in getting such a deal right off the bat. If you read the past 1 or 2 months posting, you really did not do too shabby. If anything you might want to research for any postings in regards the dealership and find out from BBB.

Andrew, never doubted 1 second that you do love you Navi. And if you have the goods to spend for it, then why not. Like you said it is a $2000 toy, but if it doesn't set you back then why not reward yourself. We all might be grownups, but deep down inside, "I don't want to grow, I just want to be a....." Enjoy

Why does Honda Odyssey's VIN starts with 5FN?
First Character denotes the country and the second character denotes the manufacturer name, right?
Does it mean that FORD makes this van for Honda?Would someone please explain? This is very urgent. I am planning in buying the odyssey in the next 48n hours.
  • med28med28 Member Posts: 17
Sorry...I didn't intend for my post to imply any bad feelings. It is not too often we buy cars, and we are new at this. This forum has been great for me. I did some of my research over the past 2-3 months reading these discussions. It worked out well, I think. After several hours and four dealers, tonight we settled on EX-L DVD for $2160 below MSRP. From what I have read this seems pretty darn good.

    J.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Congratulations. Think about it this way, you yourself got $2160 off. And for the same vehicle, we were only able to get $1900, and that was a purchase of 3 at once. That sort of puts your deal into perspective on how good it is.
Was the vehicle off of the lot? I really think Honda has something going on, every dealer I dealt with in the past is harassing me this week. If not, see if you can get the VIN# assigned to you already. Otherwise, I have to assume that they will be ordering it for you.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
Why are all these dealers contacting me all of a sudden? That is not the worst part.
My last call today was from the very first dealer I had contacted. A cousin of a family friend who said he would take care of us. Back in January, taking care of us meant he offered us MSRP, wow. Anyway, he calls again today, and says the usuall greeting. He then says he can still offer me MSRP and he has the vans. Now why would I jump to his offer for MSRP, when I nearly had a heart attack the first time he offered it. And why bother wasting my time only to offer MSRP. Was he hoping that by now I would have been screwed so many times that I would be willing to pay MSRP. If I got screwed by every Honda dealer, I would have gone to the Sienna or the T&C.
  • rtfirtfi Member Posts: 14
EX Leather, DVD, Dark blue exterior for $1,350 under MSRP last night. Couldn't justify paying ~$5,000 more for a comparable Sienna.
  • med28med28 Member Posts: 17
The van was already ordered and scheduled to be delivered April 6. So I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope it shows up on time.
  • lapvnlapvn Member Posts: 455
bearpamplin made a posting in regards time frame of a vehicle some time back, you should still find it in this forum. So if the vehicle is scheduled to arrive April 6th, according to bear's estimate, they should already have a VIN#.
I began the communications for my deal last friday, and the owner said he could provide us with VIN# for each vehicle, which he did. From there, I called up honda, verified that the VIN# was legitimate and it was for that dealership and the correct type of vehicle. Then they went on to give me a time line of the vehicle. FYI, mine was this, on the rail March 14, UNLOADED March 25, ETA for delivery April 1.
So as you can see from my dates, your dealership should already have a VIN#.
I am not trying to scare you, I am just trying to keep you informed. I hope the above helps you.

NOW, just to give this a twist, there is one dealership I have kept in touch but have always gotten an offer for a lower discount. However we always do have a great conversation. He says that those eta's mean squat. He says he still have vehicles pending with eta as far back as February. Now he could have said this only to scare me, and make me think that these cars will never come in, but come to him instead because he physically has them. I tend to think that he is just a fast talker, and tries to undermine his competition. So I feel fairly good that the van will come in, in a matter of days.

I know this is the wrong place, but is there a forum for such a topic, and also where to get it?
