Does anyone know where i can get a grill insert that is the same color as the truck. i have looked around but cant seem to find any. the one i have now is the chrome and i want it to match my color. i have the dark gray.
Do you happen to have an AT&T or other wireless phone in the car with you when you hear the clicks? I used to have a Mitsubishi that would click under the dash whenever I had my A T & T cell phone in the car with me. It was unnerving at times because if the phone was ringing, the clicking would keep tempo with the phone ringer. I never fiqured out what the clicking did other than cause noise. I sold the Mitsu.
I think he's talking about the clicking noise when in Idle. I have the same issue, can't hear it when in the truck with the windows closed but when outside or with the windows open it sounds like a time bomb.
Thanks for everyone's input. The clicking noise I am hearing sounds like it's coming from the area where the gauges are. It sounds very similar to an electric blanket noise like something is turning on and off. I thought maybe it was the auto climate control but the clicking still occurs even when the climate control is off. It is not a constant clicking but happens about every 30 seconds or so. I LOVE this car but this is driving me insane. Thanks for any additional insight anyone might have!!
It sounds like you're referring to the tachometer noise. It's very common -benign, but annoying. The only fix I've heard of so far is replacing the instrument cluster.
Sounds like what my Nextel causes if I leave it in the front cup-holder. I think the sound comes through the speakers, though. About every 30 seconds, or so, it makes the noise. The same thing happened in my last car.
Does this tachometer noise happen whether or not the vehicle is in motion or stopped at idle? The noise I am experiencing happens in all cases. Thanks.
I have a new '04 Envoy. It seems to be pretty nice. I notice that the A/C compressor clicks on and off, when in normal, non-a/c, non-defrost modes of climate control. I thought that I had read a comment about that somewhere. Is there a mode that I can select where I don't let the compressor cycle needlessly (seems non-sensical if I don't need a/c, nor defrost)?
I have both the clicking outside the vehicle and the grinding noise behind the dash. I only notice the loud clicking when I'm outside the TB. It sounds like it is coming from behind the front grill and it does sound like a ticking time bomb. I have only noticed it this winter when I first start it up and pull it out of the garage. I stop in the driveway and get out to move the garbage can from out of the garage to the curb for pickup. I can't hear it when I'm inside the TB so I don't know if this happens all the time.
The grinding noise from behind the dash is not that noticeable to me and I'm more afraid they would screw up more by sending the dash to be fixed. Has anyone noticed any more squeaks or rattles from sending the the dash tack to be fixed?
While I'm here, I do get a loud thump and squeak from the rear end suspension when the back end hits a large speed bump (I'm going slow)or low sharp dip in the road. I'm also getting squeaky brakes mainly in reverse. I only have 29,000 miles. Maybe this is from 2 feet of snow gunk that is melting?
We had a similar clicking/grinding noise from the front of the Envoy upon start-up especially in cold weather that could really only be heard from the outside. The dealer replaced the fan clutch and that solved the problem.
As far as the electrical clicking I am hearing from the dash, I have noticed that it only occurs when the HVAC is on. Does anyone know if the thermostat is located in the dash near the gauges?? Any help appreciated!!
Yup, just run a bungie or cord from the hood latch loop to the corner brace over the battery, it'll tie it down real secure. Some duct tape would also work on the hood rod and up and over to the top of the hood. I carry both in the storage compartment in back, never know when ya might need it.
"Prices for a rear-wheel drive SRX V6 start at $38,690. All-wheel drive kicks it up to $43,685. The SRX V-8 begins at $46,995 for rear drive, and $48,895 with all-wheel drive. Overall, at the upper end of its competitors."
I installed 18" chrome A.R.E. Torque-Thrusts on our 2002 Trailblazer last summer. I chose Michelin "Cross Terrains" in P275/55/18. The ride is the same, awesome and this really looks good on our truck which is light metallic pewter. If you email me I'll send you some pics of them, you will not be sorry going this route if your looking for something nice, but not "out of place" USMondeo@aol.com

Yes, I have it in my 2002 Envoy SLT, too, and posted a similar question to yours several months ago in this forum. It sounds similar to the sound that the brake pedal sometimes make but it comes from behind the instrument panel. Usually when I notice it is when I'm at a stoplight or stop sign. It will click maybe every 30 seconds while stopped there. I have heard it while driving at freeway speed, too, maybe every 30-60 seconds, so it's not always when the brake is applied. But either I've gotten used to it, or I haven't noticed it as much lately (I probably just don't pay attention to it anymore). I'll start listening again. Your "electric blanket" analogy is a very good one, because I have such a blanket, too, and when it cycles it does make a similar pop/click from the control. It would seem to me to be too intermittent to be the tachometer clicking that others have had. I would think the tach noise would be more constant and a repetitive clicking, rather than this occasional click. Do you notice it more when your vehicle is at a stop when the brake is applied?
Anyone else experiencing a rusty tail pipe and muffler? My 2003 Envoy is about 1 year old and I am noticing a fair amount of rust on the upper part of the muffler and tail pipe. I assume this is covered by warranty? I will be calling my dealer later this week for an appt.
I also need to get a clicking noise checked out. I too have the clicking noise eminating from the front of the car. Only heard it when I rolled my window down at the drive-thru. Since several others posted the same problem, plus a solution (to replace the fan clutch) I want to get mine taken care of too!
Is the A/C compressor on 2004 triplets supposed to cycle in non-A/C, non-Defrost (ie. normal heating/ventilation)modes?? If yes, is there any mode, greater than 40 degF where it won't? Any help would be appreciated.
I notice the clicking noise both at stop and in motion. At least the sound I am hearing does not seem to be connected to braking. It does stop when I turn the auto climate control off and then reappears when I turn it back on. I really wonder if it is a thermostat of some type that is making the noise?
I have an 02 Bravada and also have noticed a problem with the heat. In fact, the dealer installed another heat vent on the floor. Nonetheless, in order to be comfortable I have the auto heat set at 82 degrees with the mode at my feet. Even with this at times my hands are cold. I do not believe these vehicles have a good heating system. I love my vehicle, however, and have 52,000 miles on it.
Tried to start the tb sunday am, lights, heater, radio, everything appeared fine, but no crank, no start! Called 800-chevy line since I'm still under warranty, arranged a tow monday am to the dealer. The dealer called at 430pm, vehicle ready for pickup. The start mode of the pcm had died so they replaced and programmed the pcm(powertrain control module). Also had them fix the heater fan which the lowest setting quit working, a resistor had failed. Problems to date, 2 bad ignition coils, broken hatch strap, bad pcm and bad resistor in heater. Still happy @27k miles but sure am glad pcm failed at home instead of out in the boonies on a fishing or hunting trip!
Is there anything good about these vehicles? Has anyone owned one that hasn't left them stranded? I am considering buying a TrailBlazer later this year, but going by this message board, these appear to be horrible vehicles. None of the other message boards seem to list so many problems for vehicles.
"I am considering buying a TrailBlazer later this year, but going by this message board, these appear to be horrible vehicles."
Did you expect people would log onto these boards to tell everyone how good their Trailblazer, or Envoy is? Kinda goes with the teritory. Take a look at some of the other boards.
I just think that the majority of people come to these boards to vent thier frustrations or look for answers. The satisfied customer isn't going looking for any additional information. Under the consumer reviews sections, there are plenty of praises for these GM trucks. I recently (2 wks ago) bought a 04 Enovy, so far no major problems. Very comfortable and smooth. I am taking it back to the dealer soon for a no charge rim upgrade!
I have a 2002 GMC Envoy ... my lease is up this July, and I'm looking to replace it. Checked out the new Buick Rainier, which rides better than the Envoy (possibly due to the wider tires and the lower body), but wasn't impressed at all with the leasing deals. The Envoy deals weren't much better.
Any idea why GM is now pushing 48 month leases instead of 36? I am not interested in being responsible for the car's troubles after the 3 year warranty wears off - and the 36 month lease price is ridiculous.
I bought my 2002 Envoy in July of 2001. Have driven it almost 33,000 miles. Has it been trouble free? No. Have the problems been major? No. Would I do it again? Absolutely! Until the Cadillac SRX came out, there was nothing on the road that combined the looks, performance, and comfort of the Envoy for even remotely close to the price. The new Cadillac can sticker for over $56,000 fully loaded. For almost $20,000 less, the loaded Envoy is still a great vehicle. The TB is also a great vehicle, albeit with a different look. All things considered, the ownership experience has been positive for me. I say go for it.
This Motor Trend article confirms my concerns about off-road worthiness of the triplets and the location and vulnerability of the oil drain and lack of protection, see message #13051. "We punctured the (Envoy)XUV's oil pan on a rock, pushing its drain plug right into the sump. The area is "protected" by a plastic replica of a skidplate. The sump hemorrhaged, but our driver shut off the engine and saved the Vortec 4200 I-6 from self-destruction."
"Any idea why GM is now pushing 48 month leases instead of 36?"
It's the only way G.M. can make you keep a car for more than 3 years.
"I am considering buying a TrailBlazer later this year, but going by this message board, these appear to be horrible vehicles. None of the other message boards seem to list so many problems for vehicles." Don't say we didn't warn you.
I am about to purchase a Trail Blazer but question the reviews I have read about the skittish handling during cornering and uphill traction in snow. Anyone confirm this
My 2002 Envoy has been the best, most trouble free vehicle I've ever owned. I've owned over 15 in my lifetime, domestic and foreign, most purchased new. I probably sound like a broken record to a few of you here, but I need to offset the ones that constantly bash theirs. The majority of owners don't have the major issues you see some post here. You'll notice that it's usually the same ones complaining. As has been said, people looking to vent find these forums and do so.
I still love mine, would not hesitate to buy again, even considering the few problems I've had, I don't consider them to be out of the ordinary, machines break, occasionally. The dealer has been great and that alone can make ownership pleasant. If I had the same problems and a dealership that didn't fix things promptly and properly, I could feel differently. Great in snow/ice, uphill or otherwise! 26 months and 27k miles.
2002slt and anyone else who thinks only complainers post here. Please visit the following forums on Edmunds: Mitsubishi Diamante, Infiniti G35, Ford Econoline Van, Jeep Cherokee. I recently turned in the Mitsu. after a 4 year lease. I still own the Ford, the Infiniti and the Jeep. There are no complaints there from me for those vehicles. The reason there are complaints posted here is because of the problems, not the people. P.S. None of my other cars sounds like a diesel in the morning, just the TB. In four years of use, the Mitsubishi had only a horn replaced. The Van is 7 yrs. old. 1 problem, fuel pump. The Jeep is 6 yrs old, 1 water pump. The Infiniti is like a rocket on wheels. The TB is 2 yrs old. Engine fell apart at 2061 miles, New engine, wiper motor shorted out because of get this (Rain), numerous recalls, diesel sounding engine, both outside rearview mirrors couldn't remember where to go, rear license bracket that ruined a decent paint job, falling head liner, roaring radiator fan, and a few more minor things. G. M. lacks build quality. PERIOD
Ehaase, I have 44,739 miles on my 2002 envoy slt and I’m a happy camper. Have had a close look recently at other trucks in the same range and at this point I would get another. You get the most truck for the money for sure. I have had some problems worth posting but nothing that was not resolved by the dealer. I guess we all have fun trashing GM on the board (their such a good target) Someone post a happy motoring story quick. I’ll start. I have a chain in the back that ive used to pull three cars out of snowbanks this winter. When you try that one at home make sure there is no chain to bumper contact anywhere. Your average bumper will pull out easier than a tree stump. Saw someone do that a few years ago. Thought I was going to die laughing.
It is interesting to read about the good and bad points about the triplets in this forum. I have a 2003 SLT with 8500 miles. No problems so far. Probably one of the best riding vehicles I have ever owned (too many to list here). After looking at many other SUV's on the market, it was a easy decision to go with the Envoy. I traded in a Toyota Tundra; I could tell you some stories about the not so great Toyota quality. I would not hesitate to buy another Envoy although I do wish I would have waited for the XUV.
I have 17,000+ miles on an 02 TB LT and I too have been happy. I read this forum regularly but don't post much since it's mostly just a place to vent. Sorry for those of you that have had problems.
I have to chime in and give my thumbs up, with 1 year and 19,000 miles under my belt I am very very happy with my 03 TB. Haven't had a single problem, all I do is change the oil and rotate tires. I think that the majority of the problems were with 02's being a first production year, if you look back most of the major problems that were talked about on this board involved 02's. My 2 cents, Mark
Purchase 1/2002 GMC Envoy. Now 32,000+ miles later, I continue to enjoy the vehicle. Still have original tires! Other than MINOR problems that have been fixed, it is has been a dependable, comfortable, comforting vehicle. Looked at VW Touareg -- $46,000 for a 220 HP V6! I had VW/Audi products before the Envoy, and I can't justify the cost of them anymore. I will most likely buy a GMC Yukon for my next vehicle (based on the experience with the Envoy).
Well I was quoted $210 parts and labor to fix it. Not bad in my opinion. Aparently there is a new kit that the 2004 models use and its retrofitable to the 2002, so I'll be getting the new design Just wanted to post the cost in case anyone else needs the job done. of course it might vary slightly by location but its an idea.
ezee1, Your concerns about the handling of the TB are valid. Before I put the Eibach springs and BF Goodrich Comp T/As on my '03 Envoy, it was as nervous as a 10-year old boy walking thru the gates at Neverland. It now handles like a 4,400 lb. go-kart and is much, much better at highway speeds. BTW, saw comments on this forum about guys replacing the Eibachs with some no-name brand because of performance problems(?). Unless they were putting them in sideways, I can't imagine what could've been wrong with them. GMC should have made the thing this way from the beginning. I have pics to share but not sure how to get them onto the forum site. Can somebody help me out with that? Or, e-mail me at: tmarkb2@hotmail.com and I'll get them to you.
Click on the "Town Hall Help" link (near top on left of this page) for instructions on how to post pictures. Basically you have to find a place to "host" your pictures (your ISP should provide you with some space) then apply a tag to the address in your post.
5 people where I work own Triplets. All have had problems. GM bought back my Bravada. A Trailblazer owner is pursuing the Lemon Law for hers. An Envoy owner turned hers back early from her lease, no chance of getting another one. An EXT owner can't put gas in his, and it spits it back out when he can. I haven't been back to the dealer, but I have some small problems and 3 recalls waiting. GM better wake up, Toyota is nipping at their heels!
In mid 2002, I was in need of a new vehicle. My wife's 89 Suburban (250K miles) had thrown a rod. I did however have some time to do some research - and bought a new Envoy (02) primarily because of the engine. One month later, my 96 Grand Cherokee (180K) had come apart at the seams. We live in the Sierra Nevadas (well above snow line) and another Jeep would have been a natural choice - but after the experience with the Envoy I decided to go with a trailblazer (02) because the Envoy is more expensive and I was simply running out of money. She now has 25K miles on the Envoy - I have 66K on the trailblazer. Sure, they've been in the shop occasionally, but they are simply the best automobile value that I have seen anywhere. The Envoy is appointed better and handles more like a sports car - the TB is a little truckier. No major problems on either - and both are a real pleasure to drive.

Neat looking vehicle.
Interior is very nice.
MSRP is about $38,XXX.
Am looking at a base
V6 SRX instead. Equipment is less
and price is the same as the loaded Bravada.
But the SRX drives and handles much better.
