Here are the part numbers from my work order:

    12479231
    12479233

$64.79 each plus labor was $216.00

clunk is gone. I notice also that when I take a sharp curve the truck stays pretty leveled and I dont getthat feeling taht I am going to roll over. It's sturdy and the handling is much better than when I bought it. Hope this helps.

Had these link pins changed three times already before 36K.

THERE IS NO REDESIGNED PART. Those part numbers are original design.

If your dealer is telling you those link pins are " redesigned ", please tell me the name of the dealer.

Mitchell on Demand has listed these part numbers since day 1.

The part number for the 18 gal fuel tank shield kit is 12497685, ~$140 incl shipping http://www.gmpartsdirect.com
It consists of the steel radiator shield, another plastic engine shield(just like the one that came on my LS) and a plastic fuel tank shield. The tank and engine shields ARE plastic, try sticking a magnet to em. You don't need to ask the dealer for part numbers if you know the part name, the site has an option to request part numbers and price, they'll get back to you within hours, sometimes a few minutes, with a response. I've been very happy with their service over the last 2 yrs.
  • quickdtooquickdtoo Member Posts: 266
The cost of the links is ~$34 each plus shipping at gmpartsdirect.com That gives you an idea of how much the dealer charges for their parts, about double what we can get them for. Another example is the pcm, my dealer charges $700 for it, gmpartsdirect cost is $350, plus shipping. I've ordered several things from gmpartsdirect, the savings over the dealer is well worth the shipping charge.

Do these links even have polyurethane bushings?

You can go to a part store and get a set for $20 that has polyurethane bushings.

Also, is it true that the 2004's have a bigger rear sway bar? Anyone have the part number for that?

Does the fuel tank plate cover the entire tank bottom or just the leading edge of the tank?

    Thanks,

    Dean
  • kram18kram18 Member Posts: 45
It covers the whole thing, but beware most TB's have the 22 gallon tank, I got the 18 gallon tank plate twice from the dealer and it defiantly will not fit the 22 gallon tank.

  • cameokidcameokid Member Posts: 31
That might explain why I can sometimes put more than 18 gallons in what I thought was just an 18 gallon gas tank. How do we know if we got the 22 gal or 18 gal? The owner's manual says Trailblazer = 18.7 gal; Trailblazer with RPO NNK = 22 gal. What does RPO NNK mean?
  • n7donn7don Member Posts: 188
Look at the label on the inside glove box door. It will have around 70 3 alpha or alpha-numeric codes. If NNK is one of them, you have the 22 gal tank.

Has anyone ever tried to get the dealer's parts dept. to match the price of a competitor like gmpartsdirect.com? I'm sure they wouldn't match the listed price at gmpartsdirect, since the site lists an artificially lower price and recoups a lot of it in the higher shipping charge (although the total is still less than the dealer). However, I'm wondering if the dealer would match the total price from gmpartsdirect (the item plus the shipping charge). Has anyone tried to get the dealer to match it? If they wouldn't match it, then I'm wondering what would happen if someone ordered parts online then took them to the dealer to be installed. I wonder if they would jack up the labor charge on it...
  • n7donn7don Member Posts: 188
gmpartsdirect tells you up front they make their money on an artifically high s/h charge. I ordered a set of 4 splash guards from them delivered to Arizona for ~$58. A local dealer parts dept. would have given me a discount (don't recall the percent) such the bottom line would have been within a few $ of $58 however they didn't have both sets in stock and I didn't want to wait. I had to ask for discount however.
  • quickdtooquickdtoo Member Posts: 266
Yeah, but they wouldn't do it, even if they did, I would still have sales tax to deal with, plus they would not likely have the parts in stock. Gmpartsdirect deals through Flow Chevrolet in NC, so in effect you are buying from a dealer. The shipping charges sometimes are real high, but not always, just depends on what you're ordering. I ordered a coil pack to keep as a spare since I've had 2 replaced under warranty, the cost was ~$49, $8.20 for shipping which isn't too much higher than what most places charge for shipping. When I ordered the rear deflector and shield kit, the total shipping was $40 for the 2 items shipped separately, the shield kit being shipped freight because of it's size, I guess. So I don't feel the shipping is too much out of line. But as with most online/mail ordering, you must take into consideration the total cost incl shipping before making that decision.
  • pepper50pepper50 Member Posts: 195
I agree you have to consider the total price. I've ordered from gmpartsdirect before, and the total price was indeed less than the dealer. (As an aside, the same parts are cheaper at Chevy dealers than at GMC dealers in this metro area). But I think gmpartsdirect keeps its prices low and recoups some of it in the shipping, much like a restaurant may keep its prices steady longer while raising the iced tea/soft drinks to $1.75 then to $2.00 (many restaurants no longer print the drinks prices on the menu.) But still the total at gmpartsdirect is less than the dealer (and like you said, often a salex tax advantage.) For those of you equipped to install all kinds of parts, that would be a big advantage. I'm just wondering what the dealer would think if I bring him the parts to install, and if he would retaliate by increasing the labor costs or finding additional things to "fix."

    Hello all,
If you have a rear flare paint chipping problem... most do..., GM has a service bulletin detailing what a dealership should do to fix the problem, as a customer service issue.

Ask your local dealer to look for the following document in their "SI2000" service system.

    Document ID# 1412448
Paint Chipping Behind Front Wheels/Front of Rear Wheels, Damaged
Lower Door/Cladding and Rocker Panels (Repaing Damaged Area,
    Install Assist Step) #03-08-111-002 - (12/11/2003)

Hope this helps you all out :)

Outstanding! I have been fighting this problem for 2 yrs on my 02 Bravada. Do you have the details? Is it some sort of running board for rear door only or total length like the Envoy?
  • brian136brian136 Member Posts: 8
I have a new 2004 GMC Envoy with the climate control package. I've noticed that (above 40degF), when I'm in non-A/C, non-dfrost type modes (manual, not auto) the A/C compressor still cycles. It doesn't seem to matter whether the temp. is set at 65 or 75. Is that normal? If it is, won't the compressor recieve a great deal more wear?

I am considering a 2002 Envoy, and wonder if you can help me make a decision.

    1. What sort of mileage should I expect from a 2 wheel drive model around town and on the interstate at 75-80 mph?

    2. Same question on mileage, but with 4WD?

    3. Are there any particular maintenance or defect issues I need to look for?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am very intersted in this TSB to fix the rear flare paint. Maybe someone can post what exactly this procedure is and the effectiveness of the fix.

Pleng... if you can, go with a 2003. Many issues were cleaned up after 2002's first year. As far as mileage, expect 14-16 in city and 17-21 highway, not too bad. We had a Jeep Liberty that was a couple miles/gallon worse.
  • n7donn7don Member Posts: 188
Just had the 'fix' done on an '03 Envoy. Implementation of the service bulletin requires Area/District Service Manager's ok.
I had splash guards at all four corners. The fronts were keeping the front area free of chips but rear flare on the Envoy is more pronounced than the TB. It was getting noticably chipped from pulling our pop-up on gravel roads.
The fix was to repaint the chipped area and install an "assist step". For the Envoy, this step is different than the what's was in the sales pamphlet. In fact the step appears to be a good fit for the TB but not exactly correct for the Envoy's contour.
From bulletin no. 03-08-111-002 (December 2003)
    1. Repaint the lower door/cladding and rocker panel per your GM Approved Refinish Materials Booklet. P/N GM4901M-D-2004. A downloadable PDF of this booklet is also available at www.gmgoodwrench.com under "Paint Shop"
    2. Install the assist step. Refer to SI Document ID#739553
Time will tell if it works.

I have an '02 Envoy XL SLT 4X4 with about 16,000 miles on it (I know those miles are low, my wife does not do a lot of driving). The truck came with the full length factory running boards. While they do help, just as I am sure the assist step solution will help, it is not a cure all. In the winter, especially on the passenger side, I notice that the fender in front of the rear wheel really collects the dirt and grime. If we do highway driving in wet or slushy conditions, you can definitely see the pattern that the splashing from the front wheel makes on the back fender. Keep in mind that the factory boards are flush against the bottom of the body, effectively sealing off the lower rocker panels from the road. Hopefully that is how the assist step will fit. Again, not a perfect solution, but our wheel well looks a lot better than a buddy of mine, without the running boards, at almost the same mileage.

    Just my 2 cents.

I stopped into my GM dealer today to inquire about the bulletin #03-08-111-002. The service mgr said he checked the computer and there is no such number. I have an '02 Bravada. The rear fender flare is more pronounced than the Envoy and really takes a beating. What is the "assist step"? Is this a little step by the back door. Sounds like it would look wierd. Anyone seen the final product? Don't know why their computer doesn't recognize the number????
  • n7donn7don Member Posts: 188
The assist step is full length. Looks very similar to the regular 'running board'.

The horn died on my '03 Envoy. The fuse and relay are OK as the panic button activates the horn. Anyone else have this problem?

Also, anyone have a whining/moaning brake pedal? It sounds like I'm stepping on a puppy!

Anybody out there have information I can review about wandering mirrors? MY 02 Trailblazer mirrors have to be reset almost everytime I put it in reverse.
  • kgbkahnkkgbkahnk Member Posts: 89
Me, too. I will most likely get mine fixed/replace on my next trip to the dealer for an oil change.

Does anybody have any guesses as to whether I'd be able to get the dealer to swap out my black LTZ mirrors with the North Face body-colored mirrors? Suppose there would be some kind of upcharge for this little feature?
  • allenrallenr Member Posts: 89
There is a TSB on the wandering mirrors, don’t have it in front of me. A search of this forum should turn it up.

When we purchased our leather furniture, they recommended some in store brand. $8.00 for 2 ounces, just seemed like Armor All paste to me. I tried all the automotive solutions with the same results, but the Meguiars smells really nice! I did a huge search on all kinds of references and links and the common denominator was Lexol. It physically changes the softness of the material not just the surface. I get it at a True Value Hardware store.

A year ago, I had the "Beauty-Gard" paint protection and undercoating applied to my 2003 Envoy. I'm pretty happy with the results. Unfortunately, the company I used is out of business, and I don't know how to maintain the paint. Should I be polishing and waxing as normal? Its been a year, and water still beads up on the paint. But I don't want to be delinquent and cause damage. By the way, the reason I chose Beauty-Gard was it was free. I've been searching for it on the web, but no listings at all...

Technical bulletin # 02-08-64-021 addresses this issue. It calls for an updated program for the door modules. (reprogram passenger and driver door modules)

If you're referring to the teflon coating, I had that on my '93 Blazer and you're right, it's really good stuff. If that's what it is, you can either continue with wax, or reapply teflon if you can find it. In my case, they gave me an extra bottle of it.
    Good luck.

We live in the sun in Boise and drive up to the snow (the local resort will be open for ~3 more weeks). Much nicer arrangement than my 20 winters in Anchorage were, although I miss cross-country skiing out my door.

Since it's quiet in here, y'all have time to enter to win a new GM truck.

I have a 2002 GMC Envoy SLT and would like to get wider tires. I know I can go with 255/60/17, but has anyone tried to fit 265/60/17 ??

    suvguy
  • quickdtooquickdtoo Member Posts: 266
Yup, got 275/60/17 Toyo Proxes S/T mounted on Alba Impulse wheels. There's ~1/2" between the tire sidewall and the upper control arm knuckle. Wheel offset and backspacing will make a big difference as to whether they will fit or not.
  • suvguysuvguy Member Posts: 2
I failed to mention I wanted to keep the OEM wheels on the SLT. The stock wheels are 17x7, with 245/65/17 michelins.

2002slt. It's just that mudflaps and paint chips don't get me excited.
I'm also looking to buy 2 vans for my business. I'm torn between the trusty Ford Econoline 150 or a newer looking Chevy Express. Perhaps I'l buy one of each and put this quality thing to a test. Same conditions, same drivers etc. I can post the ongoing results.

    2004 Trailblazer EXT LS

    MSRP: 30,345

When we went in to discuss price, he asked for some numbers. I told him I wanted 8,000 off MSRP, I wanted 8,300 for my trade in (2000 Impala LS) and I wanted payments under 250. He came back with 8000 off MSRP, 8,300 for my trade, and payments of 249 for 60 months. I then asked what the interest rate was, and he had to check. It was 5.9% I told him that won't do, and I won't pay over 3.9 He came back with 3.9% with payments of 226...

I think thats a pretty good deal, although I must admit that it was a demo vehicle with 2,000 miles on it. Full factory warranty...

Still, a very good deal from what I can tell...

255's are available on Bravadas and Rainers. Choices are somewhat limited on sizes above that.

BTW, my horn is fixed and the stepping on a puppy sound is gone from the brake pedal thanks to my dealer. I made it a year w/o seeing the dealer. Much better than my '02 Bravada!

Go with 255/60R-17. That's the size BF Goodrich Comp T/A HR4s I put on the stock wheels of my Envoy. Wider, stiffer sidewalls for more precise steering inputs, more of "street tire" tread design and the speedo is dead accurate. I got them from Discount Tire couldn't be happier with them.
  • wxman4wxman4 Member Posts: 53
Do you what they did to fix the "puppy" sound in the brake pedal? Not a bad description of what my sounds like. I am going in to have the fuel fill/spit problem worked on anyway.

    Thanks

We looked long and hard at the GM lines of the Trailblazer and Envoy. We are a GM family and have used the GM family discount in the past. Unfortunately for GM, we went with the Honda Pilot.

    1) Cost
    2) MPG
    3) 5 star crash rating
    4) resale value
    5) reliability
    6) AWD
    7) Seating for 8
  • gam2gam2 Member Posts: 316
They lubricated the shaft the runs thru the firewall. I was told GM is aware of the problem.

Pilot: Cost is similar once you figure in the rebates (you should get $7-8K off list). I'm getting around 19 mpg. I also have AWD as you refer to plus I have low range. The Envoy is the better off-roader. Seat 8 adult friends in your Pilot and they won't be your friends very long.
No question about reliability and resale though.....

    GAM
  • hardhawkhardhawk Member Posts: 702
The Pilot is a fine choice if you don't have to tow anything more than a lawn mower and you prize anonymity. The MDX has more character and features, but admittedly at a price disadvantage (and it still can't tow anything of substance). Hope you enjoy the Pilot and that it turns out to be as joyful of an owner experience as you hope it will be. Just hope it does not have all the transmission problems the MDX's have had.
  • jay_24jay_24 Member Posts: 536
When we looked about a year ago, a pilot LX with no leather and no DVD with a towing package was like $31,000 MSRP and thats also sale price.
Last summer we almost bought a LS Trailblazer XT with roughtly same features for $26K. MSRP was about $31,000. Trailblazers don't sell for MSRP and have hefty rebates. They sell close to invoice if you shop around.

    Now the other points of:
    2) MPG 3) 5 star crash rating 4) resale value
    5) reliability 6) AWD 7) Seating for 8.

That I'll agree with those mostly.

However towing is a bit weak at 4500lbs*. (* if its a boat). Are boat pound less than camper pounds? What a joke. A 4500lb boat is big and has more wind resistance than a flat trailer with patio blocks...

We ended up with a Tahoe...That was less $$$ than the Pilot.
