I have heard of the 80/20 rule, but in the case of this forum (and I'm sure most others), I believe we are more like 95/5 (95% of complaints comes from 5% of the people).
3 zone climate control (versus 2 for Sequoia)
Better towing capacity with V8 (7200 v. 6200)
Memory seats
Lower price by quite a bit
Size - We personally liked the slightly smaller size of the Envoy
Looks - Again, we personally liked the looks of the Envoy better than the Sequoia
We are still owners of a 1995 GMC Sonoma pickup which had an engine replacement at 4000 miles so we've been burned before by GMC.
This board scared me away. Yes, people will vent so you have to look for a middle ground. There are people whining about problems about their Sequoias on that board too, but if you weigh the overall volume of problems on this board versus the Sequoia board, there is no comparison. Take a close look at some of the complaints on the Sequoia board. People complain about pretty mundane things because the expectation of the average Toyota buyer is really high. There are folks on this board who think that an Envoy that's been in the shop three times and left them stranded once is still a fine vehicle (See post 14079).
In the end, for me, I was willing to pay a little more to get something that would last and give us a minimum of problems so we bought the Sequoia. So far, after 10,000 miles, we are VERY happy with our purchase.
Regarding adjustment of the air ride, could the rear be adjusted lower if one were to put in lower springs in the front?
Anybody have any clue what I'm talking about?? Guys...help me out here...I haven't posted in a while but some of you have helped me out before...
I have to admit I love my Envoy..no problems...I used to read this board all the time but I think I am a hypochondriac...and I began looking for problems in my vehicle...I know others have had real problems and I hate that...so far I've been lucky....I had enough problems with my '98 ML320 to last one lifetime...

I have a 2002 Envoy SLT. I have noticed an electrical type clicking sound coming from the area directly in front of the driver that sounds like a switch going on and off not unlike the sound of an electric blanket cycling off and on. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions? The dealer seems clueless. Thanks!
It sounds most definitely like the instrument cluster. One of the only moving parts in the IC is the tach. Gently rev the motor and listen. The noise tends to appear and get slightly louder when the engine revs drop. My mechanic diagnosed in under 5 min. Other GM products have the same problem. Fix is to remove the IC and send it to a jobber who does their magic. I was skeptical of how long this would take as the services writer said if I brought the truck in by noon I would have it by the next evening . . . and they gave me a rental free of charge over nite. Well, that was the day before Xmas eve and then lo and behold they called on Xmas eve at about 3 and guess what the truck was ready to go and its been perfect ever since.
Chris, satisfied '02 Envoy XL SLT owner. Now with about 36K.

I think we are talking about two different types of clicking. I would think the tach noise type of clicking should be a constant repetitive click that varies with rpm. The click that I and jmltrib have described in the past is a single click/pop that may or may not occur again in 30-60 seconds. It is not a constant clicking and is not affected by rpm, and doesn't happen every day. It is a single prominent click/pop like something cycling. Jmltrib's description similar to a switch on an electric blanket cycling every few minutes is a good one. Isn't the tach noise a fast constant series of clickings as opposed to a single click then maybe another one 30 seconds later? I certainly wouldn't let anyone touch my instrument cluster for this occasional single click that I sometimes hear. In fact, I've gotten quite used to it in 2 years. I really don't think it's abnormal, but am mostly curious as to what the occasional sound is; it sounds like some kind of switch or relay. I would bet I could point it out on other vehicles, where the driver probably has not paid attention to it. But I think it's different from the problem you had. If I had the tach noise, I'd probably want that fixed, too.

Looks like the calibration history page design has changed since my last visit. Check it out:

I am weary about the self-sticking tape. The back widow is always dirty. My 91 blazer had the factory deflector and it worked great. Any comments.

Fortunately everyone involved (three people including me in the Envoy, two in the compact) is okay. I'm a little bit concerned, though, that none of the airbags went off. The truck does have side-impact airbags, and this was a fairly substantial impact (I was traveling at 40mph westbound and she hit me at approximately 25mph northbound), so I would have expected the driver's side airbag to go off. I'll ask my dealer, but I'm sure he'll tell me it was normal behavior -- so I'm wondering if anyone here has any insights or explanations with regard to the airbag deployment (or lack thereof)?
Also, if anyone is curious, the repair estimate is $7,148. I'm attempting to include a picture of the damage.
I'm going to wait to see what the dealer has to say about it, and then decide whether to take any action or not. Thanks for your input, guys!
Noticed today that when tuned to a radio station that broadcasts the Info band, that the info continued to scroll continuously. I can not get it to stop.
I have used this feature before and got a single display of song title, and artist and it would return to normal.
Has something changed recently where broadcasters can force the info to continuously scroll??
Perhaps this is a unique malidy??
Found this on another site.....
Alright, finally figured it out. Push the recall (RCL) button on the radio to cycle through the various possible displays. When you find the one you want, hold the button in until the radio beeps. This actually *IS* in the owner's manual, but it's so cryptically written that I went right past it the first time while looking for it. BTW, I'm a software developer, and have written quite a bit of documentation for computer software. I find it disturbing that I can't figure out how to operate a frickin' car radio
Did you ever get the part numbers and specifics for the "2004 kit" to solve your clunking?
Mine's been rattling and clunking a lot more recently and I'm ready to bring it in too.
Thanks,
Dean
I want to go a little bit more than simple dirty road, but definitely not rock-crawler?
I was thinking to buy new one, 2004, with skid plates and off-road tires
I do not know anybody around who has and went off-road on it, and it’s useless to ask salesperson
Thank you for advice
-Mark
If GM, do you have part numbers?
Thanks,
Dean
