For those of you that have been following my initial post to this board last week and read about my horrible service visit, just to let you know.. the dealership has the vehicle today to REPLACE all of the parts that they had damaged. PLEASE Say a prayer for me.. it's 2:58pm on Friday here in Columbus, Ohio and the car is due out of surgery by 5pm today (hopefully.. I am in a rental now). Additionally, I was greeted by several people today in the service department to ensure me that "everything was going to be alright this time around." Hmm.. well, I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.
On the funnier side of things, a young lady entered the service department driving a 01 GMC Denali and she commented on my Envoy and asked me while I am standing at the service podium, "How do you like your Envoy.. it's sooo pretty!" My response, "Well, not a bad vehicle BUT it would be even better IF I could keep it out of the SERVICE DEPARTMENT!" Ha, ha.. The service techs eyes rolled when I said that, but at 3,000 miles no one should have as much initiated damage done by the servicing dealer as I have had.
I response to tlauro, I posted a message (2922) that pinpointed when my mirrors would move. To quote:
"Second, I (sometimes) seem to have a problem with the "wandering mirrors" that I read some place on this board before? I have the "Tilt Passenger Mirror in REVERSE," "Easy Exit Seat ON," "Automatic Seat Recall at KEY IN" options selected and it seems that at random, the mirrors will not go to their correct position? Also, I noticed that IF I exit the vehicle, run into the store and then come back.. place the KEY in the ignition, the mirrors seem to move a little? But they should not move correct?? I was the last person in/out of the car so they should be set to Driver #1 already? Could any of you shed some light on this problem?"
It seems as if my mirrors move with the "Recall Seat at KEY IN" option initiated? I let my mom and dad make a casino visit last week in Michigan using my Envoy, so I turned off the three options listed above. The next day, I noticed that when I drove my SUV, the mirrors seemed to be okay, but then I recalled that these options were still deselected? Maybe this will help you tlauro or anyone else for that matter? Try deselecting these options for a day or two and monitor the mirrors.
Good Luck!

The ouside hood sensor needed replaced. It appeared to be working but upon their constant testing and recalibrating, seems they found an error with it. Once it was replaced and the system calibrated one last time...no problem getting heat now. Turns out the sensor would read one temp and display another, so one the system was recalibrated it appeared to work, however, once the vehicle was driven and the environment changed etc....it would revert to reading one thing for the computer system and displaying another.
Now it's all fixed.
"........Maybe this will help you tlauro or anyone else for that matter? Try deselecting these options for a day or two and monitor the mirrors."
-----
Well, it wasn't so much to do with the positioning, but with sensitivity and the computers. Correct that the mirrors are NOT supposed to move unless they were changed manually, moved manually by hand or the other driver setting was used. Mine did....just as Dennis mentioned his did.
Turns out each mirror has it's own Control Module and some how they are linked to a central Computer. We replaced both control modules and so far, they are fine. Nothing else was changed. Today, no movement at all...for now at least.
Also, we did find that if the mirrors were touched or pushed on even a slight bit, they would move as if they "sensed" movement...even if we just touched them lightly but didn't move them.....go figure. Now they don't do that.
GM has acknowledged the issue and has issued a PI or Problem Investigation...according to Byers Chevrolet in Columbus.
Anyway, at least that's a bit more info for others to use.

I've been experiencing more with my HVAC, and have discovered that it behaves well when I have it set to blow air through the defroster or floor segments. When it blows air through the vent, the air tends to be very cold. Otherwise, the HVAC seems to work OK. I got a message from my dealer inviting me for a free car wash and inspection, so I'll bring it up then and also bring printouts of your posts.
BTW, thanks for the other board info. As Edmund's isn't threaded, it's getting rather cumbersome to use...
Well, after much anticipation Friday (post #2976), I received a call from the dealership stating that the work performed on my vehicle had been completed and that I could pick up my Envoy. Once I arrived at the dealership, I was promptly greeted by several individuals stating that "your vehicle should be a-okay this time.. we monitored the work performed on the vehicle and personally inspected the vehicle for any damage once the technicians were done with it."
I briefly looked over the vehicle but with dusk rapidly approaching, I informed the service manager that I would inspect the vehicle in the privacy of my own garage and if I find anything, to contact them on Saturday. It's A MIRACLE! After 20 minutes of carefully inspecting all the parts that they had to re-install, it appears as if everything is installed correctly! No scraps, cuts, bruises to the interior what so ever! Yippee! Initially I was a little concerned with the dealership having to replace the driver's door panel (fearing any rattles, squeaks, etc.) and after inspecting, it appears to be as solid as the day I bought it. I cranked up the BOSE to see if I could detect a rattle in the door panel, to which I didn't! KUDOS to the dealership! I will write them a "thank you" letter for the effort they put in to resolve the problems that they initially caused with my vehicle!
Question for TLauro: Since you have had your control modules replaced, your mirrors tend to remain in one place now? Is this something that I should take to the dealer at another date and ask them to check? My vehicle was built in October 2001.. I am wondering if there is a time-frame to which some defective control modules were placed on the vehicle? Any ideas? Also, I read some place on this thread that people were having trouble with the electrochromatic mirrors staying blue during daytime operation? Mine seem to stay dark blue quite a bit during the daytime? I noticed that the mirrors on my Regal GS tend to turn blue once the exterior lights would illuminate at dusk?
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Dennis D.

Edit: I just found this link. Although it is for a Miata, the product may be modified to work on the triplets requiring the use of 2 instead of the one unit. The Miata hood is extremely light compared to triplets.

--- Well, much better than before, but still not perfect. We were out all day today and they still moved a bit, but much better.
According to the dealer, there is most likely going to be an update that they can apply via the Tech II tool. No info on when though.
Is this something that I should take to the dealer at another date and ask them to check?
--- My advice is no. I pushed and pushed just because they were being difficult with me on the HVAC problem. IMO, they replaced the control modules to shut me up and make me feel better about the whole thing with both issues.
Haven't heard anything on the chromatic mirrors. My GTP doesn't appear as dark as my Trailblazer, but I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary.
allroy. You asked if anyone had the majestic red. I do and love it. When I show my new truck to people, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, comments on how they like the color. A couple mentioned it as similar to a candy apple red. I notice it on a sunny day, the red really looks good.
I am still trying to get my minor (pedal)vibration, (low resonance) problem resolved. I will be taking it back in January for an oil change and hope they have some info on this by then. Mine happens right around 60 mph. It's not constant, but comes and goes.
Anyone ever put a lock on the spare tire? Does it need one? If so,what do you recommend?
A comment regarding your message to Tlauro about posting the URLs of other 'competing' sites...
While I do understand there may be somewhat of an apparent "rivalry" between this Edmunds forum and other related GM discussion sites, isn't the true purpose of this forum (and other sites like it), to SHARE INFORMATION regarding the GM Triplets? I feel that would also include *ADDITIONAL RESOURCES* of information, which may on occasion involve another website's URL. Those sites may provide information that isn't available here, and I would hope that you would welcome additional resources to the pool.
I don't see it as competition between this forum and another site -- I see it as another person who shares an interest in our vehicles who also wishes to provide an additional place where folks can go to gather information and share ideas. In fact, the posting of THIS forum's URL on another related site (suv.com) is how I found this forum in the first place! Had someone not put YOUR URL there, I wouldn't have found this discussion board.
We're not all going to abandon this site for another -- this forum works, and tho it could be improved by utilizing a better message board format, it's got a great group of people participating. Please don't make statements that sound like you're taking away our freedom of speech on a public forum by not allowing us to share information -- SO WHAT if another URL pops up for a competing site? That site could help the traffic of this one! Set up a mutual agreement with the other webmasters and let's not be so petty about such trivial matters.

Would our host care to comment? Any chance of just getting them combined here? I think it's a waste -- and some folks are posting off topic info in the other forum(s) that would be better served being posted HERE.
And THIS forum is common to all three (TB, Envoy, Bravada), and I think it actually resides in the SUVs Discussion Board.
But honestly, I'm just happy to talk to other triplet owners about their trucks, and can't fault Edmunds for providing the venue.
I pretty much agree with you! These are your boards and information exchange is the reason for the boards' existence.
My desire is to have the boards run smoothly and to interfere as little as possible in your interactions while maintaining an inviting forum for the exchange of views and information.
With respect to tlauro's post, my reply really wasn't intended to squelch any conversation. It was supposed to be a light comment on "promoting" other sites. Obviously, I didn't succeed! (tlauro's presence on these boards is most welcome and I'd never want to disourage him!)
Edmund's Terms of Use does contain a prohibition on "promoting other sites" that contain message boards and chats but I think the word "promotion" in that sense has more to do with clear and unambiguous intent to draw people away from here. I've never seen any evidence of that in tlauro's postings!
I hope that helps!

IMO, this section will be around until a true message board hits. Once that happens, I'll bail out.
I just can't figure why Edmunds doesn't just get the ball rolling and do it first.

My TB's driver seat back "squeaks" when you place any pressure against it. I took it in to get it fixed yesterday and to get an oil change. When I picked up the vehicle it still had the same squeak. Turns out that even though I showed the service manager where the squeak was, and the work order said "seat back", the "mechanic" simply lubed the seat tracks....had nothing to do with the squeak in the padding of the seat, of course. The "mechanic" claims he was not informed it was the seat back (perhaps he can't/didn't read the work order). So, I have to bring it back.
On the oil change they didn't reset the "oil life" message to 100%. When I told them about that they sent a "mechanic" out who didn't know how to reset it. I pulled out the owner's manual and read the procedure to him.
These "mechanics" are ASE certified and trained by GM. You can lead a horse to water....
What kills me is that the dealership's motto is "Expect the Best" and it's on the walls, on their paperwork, on their business cards, etc.
This is minor compared to some experiences I've read here....
I gave up at my dealership, as none of the vehicles on the lot had them, but the metal bracket itself has "wings" designed into it that have slots that look as if they were made to hold a plastic cover.
It just looks unfinished, especially when the seat is slid back to accomodate long-legged drivers or passengers.
I'll even go so far as to bet that the plastic cover is the same one used at all the other three brackets.
I've been too chicken to try to pop off one of the other covers to see if it would fit. I fear that I may break it and WHO KNOWS if I could ever get a replacement.
I'm in the Atlanta area and I purchased my Envoy from Carl Black in Roswell. I have an intermittent problem with my turn signal. When you turn on (only to the right), the hazard lights will come on (sometimes).
I took it in to have that repaired and have my 6000 mile service. Well, late that afternoon, the service rep called me and stated that they would have to keep my Envoy overnight because they weren't finished reassembling the turn signal. She also stated that the courtesy drive would pick me up and take me to Enterprise to get a loaner vehicle overnight.
Well the courtesy driver pick me up and informed me that he was taking me to AutoSave (who????). We turned in and it looked like a body shop (it was located right next to it and run by the same people). They only had economy cars... I ended up getting a Mitsubishi Mirage with bad brakes! I was so disappointed but I was tired and ready to go home so I didn't complain.
The next afternoon I went to pick up my Envoy. I was assured that everything was taken care of. I drive off the lot and on my way back to work. I make a right turn and turn my signal on and guess what... the hazard lights came on again. I also check the Oil Life Monitor and it read 71%. I looked up at the sticker to see if they changed it, and of course they didn't.
This makes me wonder if they even did the oil change or even rotated my tires as they should at 6000 miles!
I sent the dealership an email regarding this 3 business days ago, and I've yet to receive a response.
I definitely wouldn't recommend you take you vehicle to Carl Black GMC in Roswell, GA!!
It is because it is aluminum. Must be a better conductor of the heat. This is good since it reaches operating temp quicker, and gets heat into the cabin faster. My engine temp hits 150 in about a 1/2 mile on a 30 degree day.
Also the new EXT will have same 4200 motor, but in the fall GM will offer a V-8 for the EXT as an option. Of course it will be a few more $$$.

hambone7...have them check into the heated seat system...that's the one feature that I did not get, however, the other TB's that I've been given while my vehicle has been in for service have them and both of the one's I've driven recently have that same issue...and have heated seats.
perhaps there isn't a correlation, but I do not have heated seats and no squeak either. again, I'm sure many with them are fine, but you never know.
Thanks in advance.
I rented a Trailblazer the other day because mine was in the auto body shop, and it didn't do it at all. It is driving me crazy. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet, but have talked to them about it. They say it doesn make sense because it is drive by wire. I said, well, the pedal does attach to a piece of metal that is attached to the car. Can't wait to take it in and get it back with same problem.
Has anybody out there gotten a resolution to this problem.
Mark
Mark
The car is pulling to the right at highway speeds. I have 3000 miles on it. Anybody else have the same problem?
All Problems so far:
Vibration in gas pedal
Car pulling to right
Wandering driver mirror
Leaking water in rear
I just noticed that I can see between the driver rear light and the body. There is a pencil size gap between them - poor fitting!
Tranny recall
Sloppy transmission
Poor gas mph avg 17.4
My foot can never get comfortable on the gas peddle - I think the pedals should be back further
Well, that is all I can think of now. But it does seem to be growing every day.
I love the way the car looks, and the Bose system sounds great, but the little things are adding up!
Going to take it to dealer soon, can't wait to get the 'Cant reproduce problem' explanation.
Mark
I have gone back to the dealer and left my truck for them to checkout the vibration after they did the recall on the transmission. When I came to pick up the truck; of course, they could not find anything. They suggested that I come in between 9AM - 3PM so that one of the Mechanic Managers can come out on a road test with me -difficult to do when one works during the day.
On a different occasion when I came in for an oil change; not in the 9-3 time frame, I spoke to a Mechanic Manager. He informed that he thinks this happens when the transmission goes into a 1-1 gear ratio. Basically, slow acceleration in the range and transmission is hesitating / slowly shifting. He explained if you accelerate a bit quicker this would not happen. He explained this is a 'design feature' and happens in other vehicles as well -nothing can be done if this is the problem. The work around is to change your driving habits, i. e.: accelerate quicker in that speed range. Difficult to do if your on a highway whose speed limit is 55 or 60. I tried it and it is true... simply pushed down a little more on the gas pedal in that range and the vibration goes away immediately.
I still plan on taking the truck in to go for the road test with a Mechanic Manager; I just need to get a half day off work.
If anyone hears anything different, please let me know.
Where can I buy similar mudguards for my
Envoy that you showed mounted on yours?
Will they work with running boards? How
much did they cost?
Please advise! Thanks.
... Pompeyo
I noticed on an occasion last week when I was driving the car hard, in a heavy rain, in 2 Wheel drive, and after the car had a decent amount of rear wheel spin, it shifted itself into Auto 4-Wheel drive mode, and then shifted itself back when I drove less agressive.
This would be a great feature....if GM designed it to do this..... otherwise a trip to the dealer may be needed.
Comments?
tlauro: I don't have the heated seats, so it's not that causing the squeaking. They are ordering a new lumbar support for the seat and will disassemble the seat back and reassemble. I'm scared.
Keep us updated on that plastic cover!
