how much slower is it with the auto tranny?
  • ottosottos Member Posts: 80
By any chance, are you related to Eric Waligora? I am considering selling my red WRX sedan. Would you be interested? It has under 500 miles right now, and if you show interest I will stop driving immediately. I'm selling it because I don't want to make the budget cuts necessary to pay for it. I'm asking 23k for it, compared to a brand-new one which will cost at least 22522 (invoice plus dest. charge) before tax.

I am adhering to break-in rules because if no one buys the car, I guess I will keep it. I am careful about where I drive it, I flick around every pothole. I only use 93 Shell or Mobil 1 gas. I always let the engine warm up fully. I am gentle with the tranny (no quick shifting, launches). I do my shifting slow and easy. I let it idle for a few seconds before shutting it off, although this may not be necessary, because there might be a gate that drains engine oil from the turbo after you turn it off.

I live west of Dearborn, in Westland, MI.

I must respectfully disagree. The manual trans has a couple advantages: It has one more gear (first is lower, fifth higher) and the driver can control the engine speed at launch. Also, manuals are more efficient.

In addition it's easier to use engine braking, the mileage is better, you can "roll start" a manual trans vehicle if necessary, and they have yet to invent the auto that can anticipate the next downshift! Finally, manuals are cheaper and more durable.

haudee... you must work there! (AKA Spy)

Cause everyone who has been there (LOTS of people) have had Stevens Creek laugh in their faces when talking ANYTHING under MSRP... Theyve quoted people OVER $30k on cars with barely any options! They wont even negioate! Not to mention how people have had fights with the salesman there! WORST dealership by far in Northern california! :0

(Dont believe me, go do a search over at www.i-club.com)

Sorry to hear so many people have had bad experiences with Subaru Dealerships. As I mentioned in post #1458, my experience with the Frederick Motor Co. in Frederick, MD, was nothing but positive. If you live in the mid-atlantic area I strongly recommend giving them a try.

Thank you for responding to my posting. I must decline your offer. Even though you respect and maintain your new vehicle the way I would, I had my heart set on the piece of mind that comes with being the original owner. I also want to pick my own options: Black, 5 speed, rear spoiler, security system upgrade, air filtration system, armrest extension, gauge pack and premium sound package. I will contact you if my priorities change.

I am probably related to anyone with the last name Waligora, but there are a lot of them I don't know.

I was equally suprised by the price I got at Stevens Creek. I would like to say that I was good at bargaining, but all I can say after just a little haggling, the sales rep just told me that he would sell me the car for $500 over invoice. I was a little shocked to say the least, and just jumped on the price. Pricing I got with 5 sp sedan, spoiler, armrest, security and sound was $23,303 (corresponded with invoice price i found at edmunds/other sites) + $500 profit for total $23,803. Post tax, title, etc, $26.1K The transaction was initiated over the phone (I live on the east coast), but my cousin who lives in cali went to the dealer to finalize the transaction, put down the deposit, do paperwork, etc. Service was definitely only so-so - the rep was very busy, and it took him hours-days to respond and fax pricing/documents to me. But at the price I bought at, I'm not complaining. I guess the proof will be in the pudding when I get the car.

Take a look also at Dunlop SP5000 in 205 55 WR16. Only $100 each vs $161 for the Michelins. Check this link:

Where did you buy your WRX from? Van Bortel or locally? How much over invoice did you pay? I can be reached at cwaligora@home .com. Thanks.

I got the dreaded check engine light today. Any ideas other than the gas cap being loose? It seems to be running fine other than a little stumble at low RPM (especially when cold).

BTW, the coolest feature of the WRX has to be the auto dimming dome light ;)
  • kostamojen2kostamojen2 Member Posts: 284
Im really surprized... thats the first case ive heard of with Stevens Creek caving in like that. Good to see it can be done though! I hope they dont truck up your car while its there at the dealer though... cross your fingers! :P

Sajohnson, try an ECU reset... IE disconect the battery for awhile then replug it in and let the engine run for a little while, then go driving... Might help with the light.

sajohnson, there's a known glitch that causes the CEL to just switch on. Phone your dealer and report it; they'll probably have you bring the car in so they can foodle with it.

    Been there .. done that.

Were you driving in the rain?

My C.E. light came on a few weeks ago. The car was running fine though. The problem turned out to be a wire running to the fuel canistar (actually a connector) above the wheel well. Apparently, in the rain it can get wet and give false data to the computer. The correction was fast and easy. I've been told that a service bulletin will be forthcoming.

hey can you tell me the dealership that you went to? or phone to?
    appreciated.

I want to get my wrx before june.
anyone with a better dealership? at los angeles ca
  • mikeccmikecc Member Posts: 4
The wrx is just about my dream car come true.
0-60 in 5.7, a decent top speed, and for under 25,000. But the little options on the car start to really add up. I was on their site and i built my own and before i knew it I was up to 30k. I don't have a real problem with the price, but as their top of the line model i think some of the options should come standard. Such as the upgraded stereo, and the alarm system. I'd still buy it in a second though.
  • wonderdudewonderdude Member Posts: 7
If you want a list of Scoob dealers that promise not to charge above MSRP, go to www.new-impreza.com. It worked great for me! Besides, the old trick of going into the show room at the end of the month still holds true: they tend to cut the usual bull to snag one more order and beef up their final totals for the selling month. On a different note, can anyone verify "problems" with the black (midnight blue) paint? I saw a few posts on it earlier, but nobody gave any concrete details...
  • barresa62barresa62 Member Posts: 1,379
Only if you add the ridiculously priced BBS wheels to the deal! All the other options are not than expensive, probably the upgraded stereo and alarm are the next most. I have the wagon w/upgr alarm, center armrest extension, and auto dimming mirror and w/dest.chg barely hit $25k full MSRP!

    Stephen

Ooops...forgot about the auto tranny option...rightfully so as (IMHO)totally transforms the nature of the car to something a little less driving enthusiast friendly.
  • kostamojen2kostamojen2 Member Posts: 284
Did you put everything but the kitchen sink on it? All you really need is the alarm, but even that is cheaper by installing yourself and saving $100 by buying it from www.subaruparts.com ... The upgraded stereo isnt worth it IMO cause I dont want a subwolfer under the seat! (and a small one at that :P)
  • bruticusbruticus Member Posts: 229
I've decided that when I order mine I'll skip the stereo upgrade and have the dealer install a LoJack system. Then I'll upgrade the stereo via aftermarket.

    DjB
  • wonderdudewonderdude Member Posts: 7
The $230 security system option is not a bad deal, considering it is stock, it integrates with the keyless entry, and it includes an engine kill feature. The only thing I would add is blinking LEDs on the driver and passenger door sills. I agree that the stereo upgrade is marginal at best. If you're not seriously into car stereo, it might work for you, though. Yeah, it's a lot more coin, but I'm definitely gonna go aftermarket with the audio - MBQuart, JLAudio, etc. I might have considered a Sube factory upgrade if they offered the McIntosh system that's available on the Outback...

    hey folks,
I have about 550 miles so far on the WRX, getting close to the 1k mark, and then can start to add more power. I have the upgraded speakers/sub and love it, the sub under the seat is nice, does not take up any room in the trunk, and sounds fine to me. As for the folks that price the cars out on the internet, and get all the goodies, remember, that they do have an upgraded suspension package that they will NOT install and when you install it, it negates your warranty!! I guess they figure if you buy the racing setup, you probably are going to drive it like you stole it. I still don't have the short-throw shifter, will probably be installed in about 3 weeks, will let you know how it is.
The car is a treat to drive and I am very glad I bought one. I get lots of stares when driving (well, the car does, not me) and the car is great on the highway, very solid feel.
    So, go get one!!!
  • seamdoggieseamdoggie Member Posts: 5
I lucked out. I had ordered a nicely equpped WRX for MSRP, for which I had to wait 6 weeks, then a couple of days later I found the same car in stock at another dealer. When I went to the original dealer to get my deposit so I could buy the car immediately elsewhere, they knocked a liitle more than $600 off MSRP and gave me a better finance rate by a point....I'll wait an extra month for that.......I also like the carbon trim, it is in no way worth $350, but I got it anyway

went with stevens creek auto import - 408 984 2001 - ask for Ali. also just called through all the subaru dealers in the n. cali region - other good dealers to speak to are: Carlsen Subaru 650 365 6390; Livermore Subaru 925 447 1100; and Maita Subaru 916 486 8000. Hope this helps.

does anyone know how the wrx did in crash test ratings?
  • kostamojen2kostamojen2 Member Posts: 284
...Have not been done on the New Impreza's yet, at least in the US. They scored excellent in Japan though.

However, the last gen was 4 star rated... and the new gen, with all the huge structural improvents, and considering the Legacy went through simular improvements, should easily be 5 star rated :)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I expect it will fare well, even in IIHS tests. The Forester, back in 1999, aced the IIHS offset test, which is a far more difficult test than the star-rated ones.

With that hindsight, Subaru surely applied similar improvements, plus the basic chassis is far stronger to begin with.

In checking MSRPs at various dealers I found the Blaze Yellow is about 900 to 1000 more than others. Is this just due to the limited number?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Yup, supply and demand.

Apparently only the first 500 or so cars were made in Blaze Yellow, and after that no more would be available in this color. This would explain a higher price!

My dealer told me that there were paint quality problems with these cars, i.e. inconsistent color and not matching depending on the angle at which the car is viewed. Has any one else heard about this problem?
  • corkfishcorkfish Member Posts: 537
Has anyone noticed that the muffler is not stock on the tv ads? I thought I heard a rumor that there is a dealer installed muffler option, but can't confirm it.
  • kostamojen2kostamojen2 Member Posts: 284
450 Yellows, and you cant order one anymore... there all either on the boats over here, or at the dealers, or in someones hands already :)

The Muffler on the WRX commercial is the optional STi muffler, and you can get it from the dealer, but they cant install it (legal issues)
  • bruticusbruticus Member Posts: 229
So, you buy it from the dealer and say "now, everybody turn your back and close your eyes so you don't actually SEE me bolt this on!"

LOL...pretty much the truth!! I think liability issues have SOA runnin' scared. We have a litigiously (is this a word...I'll ask Mr.Bush) challenged society to thank for this, IMHO.

    I paid 4.5% over invoice.

some saying that the paint does not match with the bumper! but mine is fine.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
I wonder if one will be risking that his/her neighbors would rat him/her out to the environmentalists for installing that muffler.

My neighbors called a cop on me for washing my car in my driveway at a wrong time.
  • barresa62barresa62 Member Posts: 1,379
Sounds like you live in Seattle! :-)

    Stephen
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
actually in South Florida, near Miami.

But I have had problems with rat neighbors back in New York City area too.

Reminds me of how the Soviet system used to work under Stalin. Everyone ratted on the neighbor.

Hey, has any WRX owner raced a Grand Prix GTP yet?
I will need a new car in November. WRX sounds pretty attractive, especially for the money. But I used to have a GTP and loved it. Can't decide between GTP, 300M, WRX, TL-S, and now 2002 Altima with 240HP is coming out. Of course a lot will depend on what I will be able to afford at the end of the year.
  • 2002wrx2002wrx Member Posts: 1
there is an optional *legal* performance muffler available through SOA and your local dealer. price unknown.

P.S. Stephen, as far as I know water restrictions in the Seattle area are not in effect.....yet.

Man, you're all over the map with your choices. Of course, the WRX is by far the sportiest choice there.

I would like to sell my red WRX sedan because I've decided that I don't want to tighten my budget to pay $24k. The car is truly excellent except for the turbo lag. I'll be very sad to see it go.

I have kept the engine under 4k rpm. The gearbox I have been particularly gentle with, I shift slow and easy. I have done everything I can to avoid potholes. The car hasn't been subjected to any jolts except for the one you get when the engine hits 3k rpm.

Anyway, I am selling for $22k. I already have one firm offer, if anyone wants to offer more, please email me: msuksum@yahoo.com

I live in Westland, MI, which is several miles west of Detroit. Please visit if you're interested and in the area.
