I am adhering to break-in rules because if no one buys the car, I guess I will keep it. I am careful about where I drive it, I flick around every pothole. I only use 93 Shell or Mobil 1 gas. I always let the engine warm up fully. I am gentle with the tranny (no quick shifting, launches). I do my shifting slow and easy. I let it idle for a few seconds before shutting it off, although this may not be necessary, because there might be a gate that drains engine oil from the turbo after you turn it off.
I live west of Dearborn, in Westland, MI.
In addition it's easier to use engine braking, the mileage is better, you can "roll start" a manual trans vehicle if necessary, and they have yet to invent the auto that can anticipate the next downshift! Finally, manuals are cheaper and more durable.
Cause everyone who has been there (LOTS of people) have had Stevens Creek laugh in their faces when talking ANYTHING under MSRP... Theyve quoted people OVER $30k on cars with barely any options! They wont even negioate! Not to mention how people have had fights with the salesman there! WORST dealership by far in Northern california! :0
(Dont believe me, go do a search over at www.i-club.com)

I am probably related to anyone with the last name Waligora, but there are a lot of them I don't know.
I was equally suprised by the price I got at Stevens Creek. I would like to say that I was good at bargaining, but all I can say after just a little haggling, the sales rep just told me that he would sell me the car for $500 over invoice. I was a little shocked to say the least, and just jumped on the price. Pricing I got with 5 sp sedan, spoiler, armrest, security and sound was $23,303 (corresponded with invoice price i found at edmunds/other sites) + $500 profit for total $23,803. Post tax, title, etc, $26.1K The transaction was initiated over the phone (I live on the east coast), but my cousin who lives in cali went to the dealer to finalize the transaction, put down the deposit, do paperwork, etc. Service was definitely only so-so - the rep was very busy, and it took him hours-days to respond and fax pricing/documents to me. But at the price I bought at, I'm not complaining. I guess the proof will be in the pudding when I get the car.

BTW, the coolest feature of the WRX has to be the auto dimming dome light
Sajohnson, try an ECU reset... IE disconect the battery for awhile then replug it in and let the engine run for a little while, then go driving... Might help with the light.

Were you driving in the rain?
My C.E. light came on a few weeks ago. The car was running fine though. The problem turned out to be a wire running to the fuel canistar (actually a connector) above the wheel well. Apparently, in the rain it can get wet and give false data to the computer. The correction was fast and easy. I've been told that a service bulletin will be forthcoming.

hey can you tell me the dealership that you went to? or phone to?
appreciated.
I want to get my wrx before june.
anyone with a better dealership? at los angeles ca
0-60 in 5.7, a decent top speed, and for under 25,000. But the little options on the car start to really add up. I was on their site and i built my own and before i knew it I was up to 30k. I don't have a real problem with the price, but as their top of the line model i think some of the options should come standard. Such as the upgraded stereo, and the alarm system. I'd still buy it in a second though.
Stephen
Ooops...forgot about the auto tranny option...rightfully so as (IMHO)totally transforms the nature of the car to something a little less driving enthusiast friendly.

I have about 550 miles so far on the WRX, getting close to the 1k mark, and then can start to add more power. I have the upgraded speakers/sub and love it, the sub under the seat is nice, does not take up any room in the trunk, and sounds fine to me. As for the folks that price the cars out on the internet, and get all the goodies, remember, that they do have an upgraded suspension package that they will NOT install and when you install it, it negates your warranty!! I guess they figure if you buy the racing setup, you probably are going to drive it like you stole it. I still don't have the short-throw shifter, will probably be installed in about 3 weeks, will let you know how it is.
The car is a treat to drive and I am very glad I bought one. I get lots of stares when driving (well, the car does, not me) and the car is great on the highway, very solid feel.
So, go get one!!!
However, the last gen was 4 star rated... and the new gen, with all the huge structural improvents, and considering the Legacy went through simular improvements, should easily be 5 star rated
With that hindsight, Subaru surely applied similar improvements, plus the basic chassis is far stronger to begin with.

My dealer told me that there were paint quality problems with these cars, i.e. inconsistent color and not matching depending on the angle at which the car is viewed. Has any one else heard about this problem?
The Muffler on the WRX commercial is the optional STi muffler, and you can get it from the dealer, but they cant install it (legal issues)

some saying that the paint does not match with the bumper! but mine is fine.
My neighbors called a cop on me for washing my car in my driveway at a wrong time.

But I have had problems with rat neighbors back in New York City area too.
Reminds me of how the Soviet system used to work under Stalin. Everyone ratted on the neighbor.
Hey, has any WRX owner raced a Grand Prix GTP yet?
I will need a new car in November. WRX sounds pretty attractive, especially for the money. But I used to have a GTP and loved it. Can't decide between GTP, 300M, WRX, TL-S, and now 2002 Altima with 240HP is coming out. Of course a lot will depend on what I will be able to afford at the end of the year.
P.S. Stephen, as far as I know water restrictions in the Seattle area are not in effect.....yet.

Man, you're all over the map with your choices. Of course, the WRX is by far the sportiest choice there.
I have kept the engine under 4k rpm. The gearbox I have been particularly gentle with, I shift slow and easy. I have done everything I can to avoid potholes. The car hasn't been subjected to any jolts except for the one you get when the engine hits 3k rpm.
Anyway, I am selling for $22k. I already have one firm offer, if anyone wants to offer more, please email me: msuksum@yahoo.com
I live in Westland, MI, which is several miles west of Detroit. Please visit if you're interested and in the area.
