Thanks!
I was excited about the TL at first, but not so much anymore after reading Edmunds' long-term test (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/LongTerm/articleId=44682#9). Granted, it was a 2000, and the one I'm looking at is a 2002, but weren't they all first-gen LSes? Also, the user reviews I've read have either been great of absolutely horrible, so I don't know... I haven't read anything nearly as bad about the TL as I have about the LS...
try replacing the fuel pump relay. I had stalling problems with my 2000LS V8 and the relay turned out to be the issue.
Marty
Have you experienced the engine light staying on when there does not appear to be an apparent problem? Thanks for any insight.
Thank you,
Russell
I just recently had a small leak on one of the transmission hoses going to the cooler in front of the car, it was a slightly loose hose clamp. That is fixed now, but kind of worried about the transmission fluid level in the car. The leak wasn't big at all, but still wondering if I shouldn't check the level. And with it being an enclosed transmission like it is, I was wonder if anyone had some steps in checking the oil level? Steps in changing the oil?
Would like to do the work myself as I have a shop setup for minor auto work.
Thanks for any information!
I too have been fed up with my lincoln ls. thank god, i have extended warrenty which has covered most of the problems but havent saved up enough to fix the other 2 problems which is my traction control and my air bag module has to be replaced which will cost hundreds of dollars. I wish i never bought this car! Lincoln should be ashamed of it!
Anywho, i hope you can get your problems resolved with out having to spend alot of money.
I am new to these forums so please excuse me. The story is a bit long but it explains everything.
I bought a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 @ 110,000 miles for about $8,000 dollars three weeks ago.
I have always wanted one of these. Car test drove great, but of course the dealership would only let me drive it around a one half mile circle.
When I brought it home I noticed a Scratching/Grinding Type noise coming from
underneath the car, when I was drooling over the engine. I lifted the front end of it up with a forklift at my job to examine the noise. It sounded like it was coming directly from the circular Torque Converter Enclosure. I took the car to AAMCO
TRANSMISSION The said that the pump was mis-alligned and it needed to be replaced as well as the torque converter. The dealership offered to pay all expenses
if I took it to their transmission shop. Of course I did. He told me that the guy at AAMCO was correct in his assumtion and would get right on it. A week passed
and I went to pick up the car. STILL MAKING THE NOISE!!!! He told me that it had a break in period so drive it over the weekend and bring it back if it is still noisy.
OF COURSE it was so I brought it back for a second run. Another week passed, before he called me and said that he pulled the transmission off and it was still making the noise so it could not be what he fixed. He sent me to another mechanic to get the pumps "Dummy Shaft" looked at. To sum it up the next place said the car had no dummy shaft and they could not figure out where it was coming from. I was getting impatient so I took the dang thing to Lincoln. The said it was the "Front Trans Pump" Wanted to replace the whole thing for $3,500 Bucks. Of course this confused me because the other place had supposedly fixed that problem. I called the dealership once again and was sent to "their" engine specialist.
Two days later they called and said they found the problem, It was the POWER STEERING PUMP. A bearing had gone bad needed to replace pump. Another $800 Dollars. I get the damn car back a few days later, pump looks new, SAME DAMN NOISE!!!!!! They said "it was the nature of the beast" something about air in the hydrolics and that there was nothing wrong with it. I feel if it's making a grinding/scrathing noise there is something freaking wrong with it. I dont want to call the dealership I got it from again because im sure their fed up with me, but I cant afford for Lincoln to fix it. Lincoln made me nervouse because they said it was what was already supposedly fixed. I absolutly don't know what to do. Any advise or help would be so greatly appriciated. I am near the point of selling this car for the $5,000 I owe on it and writing off the $3,000 I already spent. PLEASE HELP!!!!
Never use a forklift to jack up the car - get a set of ramps or use a floor jack in the designated areas underneath the doors only. Don't jack or lift it by the suspension or differential. And don't take it to AAMCO.
Any ideas??????????
The only thing that I can remember that does something like that is if the instrument cluster is replaced without using the proper procedure which includes downloading info from the old cluster (to prevent odometer tampering), but I don't remember the details.
It is a chime. It happens in any condition, sitting. driving, when ever. It will stop after 4 cycles. It always does it. It normally happens after staring the car. When it is cold when it's warm. I have also noted it will do it again after driving it after about 45 minutes of driving. All gauges are reading normal. Help!!!!!
So the $64,000 question I put to my wife yesterday - "How do u like this Honda? Should we sell the LS and get one?" She says "NO way. I cant wait to get the LS back." "Why?" I say. "Because this Honda practically makes me seasick in comparison. The LS is so tight, handles so well and yet rides nice. I feel confident in the LS. PLUS, I love the 5-speed in the LS. I hate this automatic. I cant control the car the way I want to." - Now, u see why I love this woman?
My comments are along the same lines. I'd add that the Honda ride is kinda 'floaty' and I HATED the little bit of torque steer it had. I don't think I'll waste any time trying to sell the Mrs on a new FWD automatic MKS either.
Seriously, the LS is still a tough act to follow. They have their flaws, for sure, but the ride/handling balance is still about as good as it gets, IMO.
Since that's a standard getrag tranny you may be able to get parts outside of Ford.
Well, in the realm of part identification it makes a big difference. I've been trying to locate a clutch plate, now I gotta call and change to disk?
I'm wondering how your car is running since you say you knew the clutch was failing about a year ago?
