I have them mounted for testing, will take pictures when it gets dark. I also ordered some 30,800 mcd LEDs to light up my center gear selector. I might have to wear sun glasses while driving. 8)

my local Discount tire store he called and sail the Bridgestone 730's and SO-3 pole positions are in The first one is a 255/50 17 and the second is a 225/55 17. I like the contact patch on the 255, but the So-3 is the better tire. They $50 differance between them.

I planned on using cookie sheets to to duct the air toward the air box. to connected together gives me a 13"X 1.5" duct. The problem is getting around the intake tube (it restricts the access to the air box. I will figure out a way to get the air down there.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
if the 255s will fit (you're pushing it with 7inch rims), get them. Not only will you save $200 but they'll look badass. :)

The water is coming out of the exhaust system, The muffler and resonator have drain holes for the water. When you shut your car off water is created by the cooling of the exhaust, when you move your car the water leaks out the drain hole and there you have your water spot. If it was coolant it would be green for 99-00 cars and orange for 01 and up cars. If the water is closer to the front ,on the passengers side firewall area then it is the A/C drain tube . As it is water dont worry.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
it's a LOT of water. Looks like a pint or more. Way more than any of my previous cars ever produced from the AC, and it does it even when the AC isn't running. Since it's water, the only other thing it could be is my wiper fluid...which I won't worry about. :)

The platinum 300M you were chasing was undoubtedly member #86, of St. Mary's, GA. If you look in the members directory in the Members Only area of the Club web site, you can find his name and e-mail address.

listen up everyone, some punks grabbed his design, and copied it, and are tryin to sell them. what they didn't know is that Dean pattened it, so they are screwed and now being sued if they don't stop selling. its the same exact thing, but just cheap parts. get it from Dean for 50 bucks more, and also if you buy frmo g-force gears, eventually you will have to return when they aer sued. so beware....

I have a Y2K built in nov of 99--my coolant is orange---isnt the orange the long life coolant good for 60k---is the green coolant also long life?--thanks for the info on the water drips--I noticed a lot of water under my car but assumed it was the ac--never was concerned though as fluids are not leaking--I usually change my oil every 3-4K but I went 6k last time--it was down half a quart--guess thats not bad for 6k

    How often do you guys change your oil--just curious---(also your answers will make us #1 on the Edmunds top ten sites :-}
  • achanceachance Member Posts: 106
Don't know where you live, but in humid areas,a whole bunch of water can come out of the exhaust(s) of an M. Some mornings mine could pass for a steam engine in very wet Juneau, AK.
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
yeah it is the long life stuff. SDMIKE if it was the washer fluid the puddle would be on the left front corner of the car. Sorry 00 cars had the orange stuff also.Hard to keep track of some of the changes . I change oil and filter every 5000 kilometres.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
is there any kind of pan underneath that might collect enough AC water to provide a puddle when disturbed? Like I said, these are serious puddles, not just wet spots. Imagine pouring a can of lemon lime soda on the floor.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I did my first change at 3,000 miles and put in Mobil 1 oil and filter. Now I plan to change it every 5,000.

had to be the one from McDonough, Ga which is in Henry County...i would look up the e-mail address, but i'm not a member and i'm not breaking in again, i'm a changed man. :) obviously he doesn't check into ed's.
  • kpm61kpm61 Member Posts: 35
First oil change was at 1100 miles.
Put in Mobil 1 oil and filter too.
Plan on going with the recomended 7500 miles.
I don't meet any of the harsh use criteria and also because I'm useing better oil than they reccomend 7500 should be fine.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
yes the 255/50 17 will go on the 7" rim. I checked the specs to make sure.

I change mine every 3000 miles, or three months with 10w-30w valvoline standard oil. I always change the filter at the same time. When I run out of my oil, I may try some of the new 0w-30w oil I have been seeing. I should help the gas mileage.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
thats a new one on me---zero wt oil--what is that--0 protection against friction--would be very liquid in cold weather for good starts but 30w when the engine warms up --dont see how that will improve mileage much---I would recommend putting in what the engine calls for--I believe the 10-30 is correct---anyone else use different wt oil than the recommended--

those who change every 6 or 7 k---do you look at your dipstick to see how dirty the oil is--I think the dipstick is a good indicator of when its best to change---if it still looks fairly clean at 3k you can probably go longer--- I find that it is fairly dirty at 3k so I change it between 3-4 k with a new filter---

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! the speed sensor thing happened to me again!!! what the hey! stuck in 2nd. this time tho its different, u can turn the car off and on, then it goes away for 15-20 minutes...check engine light remains on. this is lke part 2 or something, now the trans chip has to be replaced right? man i need to drive to philadelpha tommorow, and i really really dont wanan be sportin around in mom's minivan.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
sorry to hear about your tranny probs again---hope they cover it under warranty--they may say those shaved door handles could be the cause of your tranny problems--or those duals or the cone filter or perhaps those fancy rear lights are causing it---

    poor av--have to drive moms minivan--oh well, at least you got wheels to get around--maybe you can adapt a set of prowler gears to that minivan and make a sleeper out of it ;-}

I inquired about the 2002 300M and heard from my dealer service mgr. (great guy and not your typical SM) that a 200M SPECIAL will be out later in the model year with:
    > More HP than the std. 300M
    > 18" wheels
    > Ground effect lower body cladding
    > Real dual exhausts (both sides)
    > Turn signals in the mirrors

He saw nothing about HID lights and told me for the 2002 300M, 2 colors were added and the car is basically the same as the 2001. New models should start rolling in Aug 1st.

The PI cluster was moving slightly and some foam between the dash pad and the top of the cluster corrected it... Also some wires looked like they could rattle against the steering column plastic frame so I lined the bottom of the frame fit foam tape and my column rattles went away... Just an FYI

I change my oil every 3000 miles and I've been using Castrol GTX 10W30 for many, many years, always with excellent results. My wife's 1996 Aerostar with 120K miles now with no engine problems (knock wood) is my most recent example.
My 300M will turn 30K in about 2 weeks and I plan to take it to my local 5* for it's 30K checkup.
Will make sure they flush the tranny and refill it with the ATF+4 (I think that's right. isn't it?).

  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
Mine also did this when I had the speed sensor problem. On mine it was both the Input, & output speed sensors. 2 different ones the tranny. Also had a bad MAP sensor.

I was looking in the service manual last night. I found where the stock gear info is listed on the 2000. I also checked how hard it was to put in the gears yourself. It shouldn't be that hard. The manual gives a detailed view of where that gears are, how to remove, & reinstall them. However it doesn't say how to get to them. Like is it neccessary to take the tranny out, or what undercar components need to be removed to access the gear cover etc. Might need a pro to install them. Also I though the prowler pro guy would not let anyone install them but him. AV are you driving to CO to have it done??
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
Mine is a 2000 & has orange coolent.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
If you have changed the stock exhaust you wouldn't have these drain holes. So where is it coming from then?
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
2002 models start rolling this Monday July 16. We build around 180 300M's a day on two shifts. With 980 LH cars totoal a day.
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
I would think that even aftermarket mufflers would have a drain hole for the water to escape.

that's a good price, i've noticed that the two or three chips i have are toward the middle of the hood rather than on the front...where are ya'll noticing most of your chips? mine is silver so they don't show up anyway.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I have a full bra & still have a few chips. Around the fog lights, & headlights only though.

Light covers are available from Stongard. They are on the net. Cost about $59 a set.
Contrary to some comments made recently, my Ziebart dealer has done an excellent job on all mods I have added to the car. As with any franchise, their reputation is only as good as the local people working there in their name. However, they have a 3M product that is used for the clear bra, and it is excellent and cheaper than that offered by Stongard. I don't know about other companies offerings but I got the Stongard nose protection for my wife's 00 Eldorado and it was very expensive compared to the stuff from Ziebart [Ziebart did not have a 3M kit for the Eldo, but Stongard did so I bought it].

And on tinting, Ziebart did my 93 Regal GS and I had no problems for the five years I had it. However, they have several tinting products from different manufacturers and on my M I wanted the chrome tint for the bottom 1/3 of each window fading to the legal 35%gray by mid-window. The Ziebart dealer advised against using this tint because 1] relective tinting is not supposed to be legal in KY, and 2] they did not have a historic confidence level in how it would perform in the long term. He recommended the reliable 3M stuff. I had them do the chrome anyway because I thought it looked better than just the plain grey on my platinum car, and the tint was within state standard for 2/3 of the windows. So far no problems with the tint and no bother from the PD. However, my wife put her foot down on the 1/3 chrome etc. on her sterling silver Eldo, but it would have looked awesome, especially with the dawn-ent.com spoiler I had Ziebart put on. So, here is one satisfied Ziebart customer.

I'm from NYC, & live in Fl, & travel back & forth. I have never heard of this Ziebart before.

i don't know where someone heard that he has to install it. he said if you know how to turn a wrench, it will take about 3 and 1/2 hours. and he will ship them out to you. everything needed. i am gonna order them next week or the following week...he's guaranteeing a HUGE difference. "it will awaken your 300m.." his word, my response.."oh hells yea! i wish chrysler would have done that from the start tho..."
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
forgive me for missing it the first time how many ben franklins does it take to "awaken the m"?

I shopped around to all of the places and websites, and here are the prices I paid:

Clear Bra from Invinca-Shield (1-888-339-1385 http://www.invinca-shield.com/main.htm ) $174 for hood, fenders and front fascia, including shipping.

Light covers from LampGuard ( http://www.macneilauto.com/lampguards_list.html ) $45 for all six front lights, including shipping.

So, $218 for full frontal protection!

The full clear bra kit from www.xpel.com was $410 and then you still have to buy light covers.

Invinca-shield also included an installation video, some test pieces, a squirt bottle and solution, a squeegee and a cloth squeegee cover.

Check out my installed clear bra and light covers at http://www.chardans.net/300m/pix.htm

I got a K&N air filter today and installed it in my M. WOW...thats about all I can say! The difference is extraordinary, immediately noticeable. I knew the difference as soon as I started it up. I am very impressed with it on moving from a full stop. I've also noticed that the RPM's are slightly lower now, leading to believe that there might be some fuel savings too. Anybody else notice this or is this juts like some kind of placebo effect that all in my head?
  • 300mlover300mlover Member Posts: 132
How long have you had the clearshield on? Has it shown any yellowing at all?
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
Does the kit included the pieces for the whole front end. Around the headlights, air dam, fog lights side of front fender etc. Or is it just the hood piece. Is there any pic of it on a silver 300M. I would think it would show up on light colored cars. What happens when your M gets dirty. It would sow up wouldn't it. What happens in 5 years when the rest of the car is weathered. The paint where the clear plastic is will be a different shade.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
It doesn't matter if it's real or not, just that you like it! lol. Have you put in Bosch Platinum +4 plugs yet? I think they made a bigger difference than the K&N, and the duals were a bigger difference than both combined. Watch out everyone, Sirharper has the bug! lol

I contacted Prowler Pro and asked them flat out if the gears will work on the Ms and if I can have a local shop install them instead of going to CO. Yes on both counts. here's the text of the message:
    ********
    Mike,

    Thank you for your interest.

I have attached a file that should answer your questions, but here are some quick answers:

Q - I have an '01 300M that I'd like to improve the performance of. Since it's the same engine and tranny (except FWD) as the Prowler, I'm wondering if your Prowler Pro gears will work on it.
    A - Yes

Q - Can I have a local shop install them (San Diego)?

    A - Yes

Q - If not, what do you guys charge in CO?

    A - see attached file

Send me your phone number and a convenient time to call you, or call me direct.

    Thank you,

    Dean Prodromides

    *******

I'll get the file up on-line and post a link with the info later today or tomorrow. I had some minor surgery today and can't spend much time in this chair. :/
