My front rotors are pulsating upon breaking so I want to get new ones along with new pads. I remember reading that someone purchased and installed cross drilled rotors and I was wondering where they were purchased, how much they cost, and if they are worth it?
Do they last longer than regular rotors and are they not prone to pulsating? What pads should I get?
Should I get them at a local auto parts store or is it better to get them online?
Lonestar - thanks for the link. Looks kinda scarey to me but maybe one of these days I'll give it a try.
San Diego people - did you know that the Chrysler Advanced Design studio (for instance where they designed the Pacifica) is in Carlsbad? I did a half hearted attempt to find it's location on the internet but didn't come up with anything. They are probably in a "top secret" location anyway.
Have clicking/knocking noise in front pass door area. Have removed all items from map pocket and tried to reproduce sound from door panel & speaker grill but no success.
Has anyone else had this problem? SUGGESTIONS? Assume noise is coming from behind door panel.Sound comes and goes at random. Not continuos.
I didn't know that! Probably armed guards in front, just like at Upper Deck.
I did some rooting around too. No luck. They're not even in the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce business listing. Interesting that they call it the Pacifica Design Center....guess they think highly of the Pacifica. Also interesting that the guy that runs it designed the TT Coupe at Audi before moving over to DC.
Does the sound change when you open/close the window? If so it could be the window rattling in it's bracket, or a problem with the window motor. My rear driver's side door rattles on the inside, and I find that if I lower the window slightly (still closed, but not crammed all the way up into the seal) it stops rattling. I'm going to have the dealer look at it, but at least I know how to stop it temporarily.
Have you ever considered adding a forward-facing B/W IR CCD camera to your M to see if you can see further at night? It's not heads-up, but it would be interesting.
Here's some IR equipment I have for my video camera:

did anyone with the aircharger system check to see if any oily residue is building up inside the hose where the pvc connection enters--the plenum would normally prevent residue from entering air intake---anyone foresee any problems with oil buildup---

All: Just watched end of U.S/Canada hockey game, and--for a non-sports oriented guy like myself--it was an exciting game. Of course, being American, I was routing the the U.S team, but when I thought about, this is what I decided. I'm not a really complicated guy, I see most things as black and white, but think about this:--> in any game there are no real losers, just people who did not win-that time. My congratulations go out to all out Candadian members and friends, brothers and sisters to a tremendously played game. Watching the game come to the inevitable conclustion, the way BOTH teams handled themselves was inspiring, for as neighbors who share the longest unguarded border in the world, we have an example to set and I think we did by showing not only how to win gracefully, but also how to 'not win' gracefully. a special congrats to mikejohn, ottowrkr, uxca300m from drpixel, sick @home!
Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad we could all get to-gether and enjoy a well played game without all the dirty stuff that you sometime see. I think they all played in a very professional manner, and it's too bad that 1 team had to win. I now see that doping has come back in full force, and they have the nerve to complain. Go figure. Good to see you back on the site Av, I was beginning to wonder here you were, now if I could find out what happened to phases78?
drpixel - Lets hope they actually build it. It's scheduled to be a 2004 model. Word has it that Daimler canceled the Copperhead. Even more upsetting is that rumor also has it that Mopar branded automobiles will be phased out late in the first decade of the 21st century in order to build more profitable Jeeps, SUV's, trucks and Minivans exclusively! - from an older Hot Rod Magazine Oct. 99
And I totally agree with your take on the Hockey win for Canada. We couldn't have picked a better team to lose against. Way to go Canada!
I don't participate in this thread due to time constraints, but I'd like to share w/everyone what I consider an excellent accessory for the 300M. Any of you who read the C&D long term test of the 'M a couple of years ago will know about this. It must be ordered from a Chrysler or Dodge dealer, as it's manufactured by MOPAR, and cost me about $7.00.
The accessory are hooks that mount in your trunk that you can hang those plastic bags that they use at the supermarket on. By installing some of these hooks, and using them, you prevent those cans, bottles, and packages from spilling out of those plastic bags and traversing your trunk. Normally they are only found in minivans, but for some reason Mopar makes them for the 300M, and they come in packages of 4. I hang more than one shopping bag from one hook. To install them, you must remove the weatherstripping in the trunk, and snap on the wire hooks, and then replace the weatherstripping.
Granted, this is not a sexy add-on, but it is very useful--I love them!
BTW, while I'm here, happened to ride in my friend's '02 TL the other night. I couldn't get very comfortable in the passenger seat--I'm a big person and the seats seemed smaller to me, and even my friend feels that the seats in the 'M are more comfortable. Granted, that's is only 2 people's opinion, but it's worth something. Also, I was surprised at the wind noise that the TL suffered. My friend is an aggressive driver, and we were doing about 60 on a smooth road, and I felt there was more wind noise than in my '99 'M. But I think the TL has a bit less tire noise. But to me, the TL just doesn't have the knockout styling that the 'M has. But that's old news. Have a great week all, and hope some of you will order the trunk hooks. At $7, you can't go wrong. If the dealer tries to tell you that they only make them for minivans, tell him to check on the computer, and he''ll see that they are indeed available!

I've got those trunk hooks. They are a good thing and you can't beat the price. I use only two of them which I placed more towards the hinges of the trunk lid so that if I try to put things in the center of the trunk they won't snag.
The IR front camera is already in the works. After installing my rear camera (and likeing the Caddy night vision) I knew I wanted this also. So far 80 feet is the best (with good visibility) I am talking to a guy who might have stronger IR's to get more range. I already have the camera 96 degree angle of view and color too.
Who is going to install my door panels, and seat bolts. I am going to see if they will do my new break a way mirror too. And talk about new struts and putting on the Intrax springs.
good to see you're posting again--hope you stop by to visit occasionally to share your mods on your new wheels--sharp looking vehicle---what mods are you planning?
Those trunk hooks are a neat idea. Like so many other things, the dealers just do not know enough about their products. The avail of a cabin air filter (at under $30) for 96-99 minivans is another such item.
That Charger concept is beautiful! I just hope they decide to build it AND put in a good powerplant. Looking good just is not enough anymore.
As a hockey fan, I just could not get too worked-up about the gold-medal hockey game. It was NHL 1 vs NHL 2, and the Russian team was NHL 3. Even NHL officials. I watch those same guys on the ice on TV every week. In fact some (like Brett Hull) have dual-citizenship anyway. It was an entertaining game and it was good to see my favorite player (Steve Yzerman) get a gold, but even with Herb Brooks behind the bench it was NOT the emotion of 1980. Otto- Great to hear things are picking up at Brampton. Personally, I think car clubs and enthusiastic owners can be a BIG part of continued sales of any car model. My dealer sure knows about the 300M Club!
Back from a week trip to Huntsville and the Space Center. Nice town, but the cars are truly driven like rockets down there. Maybe its NASCAR? Easy--My dealer said the TSB on the window sticking said to replace the Regulator, part #4574093A0 [$64.60] and the Retainer, part # 6504014 [2@ $1.70] and Retainer #6503204 [1 @ $2.20] and suggested replacing the Filler, felt tape, Part # 4773968 [1 @ $7.35] and Lubricant, multi-purpose [1 @$8.35]. My warranty would only pay the required not the suggested so I sucked up the last $15.70, but figured what the heck, cheap enough since I had no deductible. If you get the window done, do it all it seems to me.
Otto--Great hockey game. Congrats to Canada. I disagree with Gretsky saying everyone wanted the Canadians to win. I figured they had the best team although they didn't play like it til the last game and the US was over-achieving. If Russia and Bellarus were still one country it would have been a USSR - Canada final anyway. US played good, but Canada had the speed and the "sniper." I was surprised that they did not win the curling final. I missed the last stone launch but assume it missed its target. And,if I was young and single again, I would be trying to skate with Miss Sale. What a "fox" and so nice too. And, it was nice to see the great program skated by Sara Hughes rewarded with a gold. She clearly skated the best program I have ever seen, except maybe one by Elvis S.
shocking, isn't it? Here's the deal (300Michael...I think you were going to/did this....). Local Target store is selling 6 feet of neon/glow/wire (?) that plugs into cigarette lighter/power outlet. Looks pretty good in picture in recent flyer. I really like the 'ground effects' lights, but in Joisey "it ist verboten" in ze Garten Staate. I haven't noticed any problem with FM radio reception with metallic tint, but I don't listen to AM radio. Some have said it causes more problems with AM.
My tint isn't metalic in appearance, but it what Llumar calls "metalized". I think it makes it last longer and might add to the reflectiveness a little bit. However, it does appear to play havoc with my AM stations. I get a high pitched whining/whistling that moves up and down in pitch and overwhelms the signal on most stations. Not sure if this existed before the tint, but I don't recall it. However, like Igor, I listen to AM so infrequently that it doesn't cause me any heartache.
Hope you are feeling better. I'm on my 5 day of a killer head and chest cold...so bad that my wife decided to sleep with my 5 year old instead of me! Gotta love that Comtrex stuff. I call them my "feel good" pills. I also saw that light cord in the target ad and thought it looked neat. However, if you look closely at the picture you'll see that it looks like it was laid out by apes! I hope it goes in better when put in by a person that cares what it looks like. I also read that it plugs into your lighter plug. Pretty cool that there is no wiring involved. Hey, I thought you did the K&N filter mod. I wrong?
I had a noticible loss of reception on AM, and with the reduced signal strength ignition noise appears on most stations. Protection from TX sun was my first priority. I have Llumar maximum legal tint. My only complaint is the rear window tint was applied in narrow strips and it distorts the view through the rear glass. Also you get some air bubbles at the very top.
Congratulations to Canada for a great and convincing win. USA looked tired and Canada looked relentless. Hitchcock knows Hull and Modano very well and had a strategy to neutralize the US style. We'll let you win again in another 50 years ;>)
International hockey is much more exciting to watch than NHL.
Canadians at the Olympic Games were having a lot of fun. Kind of reminds me of the Aussies' sports enthusiasm.
Hey all - wanted to see if anyone's installed a cell antenna on the rear window. Any issues with placement and interference with the stereo antenna? I don't really want to put it in, but have a hands-free kit (dealer installed, not an earplug that I've installed and want to add the antenna for reception.
...but both of the interior rear door panels are coming loose, most notably driver's side rear. I wonder if the kiddies have been pulling at 'em or is this just a harbinger of soon to be out of warranty experiences? About 2500 miles left on my '99 Platinum M's warranty. As her car was low on gas, evil wife took my M to go grocery shopping yesterday. As I watched her head off down the road, I think I said aloud, "That is one good looking car!"
We recently bought her a Lexus RX300 and it's funny, but for much less $, you get a few luxuries in the M that you don't in the RX. For me, most notable are the memory settings for the mirrors, radio presets and the driver's seat that slides for ease of ingress/egress. Much nicer leather in the RX and significantly quieter engine, though. As it should be for the $$$.

Thanks, feels good to win both womens and mens hockey. I think Wayne said those things to pump his guys up. Yeah I guess when it comes to ice we do pretty well on it. EH !!!!!!!!!!!
You had asked for my input on the Zaino glass polish. I mainly wanted it to see if it would take some scratches off my side mirrors (I don't know how they got there...think the previous owner cleaned with with something like sandpaper!). I also tried on the outside of the windshield. I didn't notice a big difference on the windshield except that it takes a lot of work to get it buffed off (they recommend an orbital buffer). Thank goodness I didn't try it on the inside but they claim it takes off that film that is always on there It would be really tough to get it all buffed out at that angle. I think I see some improvement on the scratches on the mirrors which will probably improve with multiple coats.
One thing I noticed last night though...it made all the little chips and dings in the windshield more apparent. White gets in there. I have the same problem with Zaino polish on my paint -- it adheres to any dings or touchup paint that isn't perfectly smooth and turns them white and it's really hard to get it out.
If you want to try the stuff I'll bring it to the Meet. It'd take me 2 years to use all the stuff up anyway.
Also, check your email. I think I found the best route for the drive during the Meet -- although I won't be able to partake.
K & N?.....not me.....the Target deal is more my speed....BTW, your package is in the mail...hope it fare's better than my renewal 'pin' which came in the mail Saturday. The pin punched a hole through the envelope and got mangled by the US of A's postal machinery to the point where I couldn't get the backing holder off of to even straighten out the pin! Blonda: I hate cold knobs in the morning...err...shifter knobs that is! They should have shifter knob warmers....yeah, thats the ticket......yeah, warmed up shifter knobs..... thats why I like my lowly leather-wrapped knob... Finally put some pictures up of my 300M. Go to http://www.topandtia.com and select the 300M from the menu. The site is best viewed in 1024x768 resolution or higher. If anyone is interested, I put up a printable template to use for cutting out the rear bumper in the dual-exhaust section. I even have a sound snippet of my exhaust - be sure you have the right audio plugin for your browser to hear it. Enjoy!
Sdmike2 - I am going to get the K&N Aircharger per your recommendation. Thanks for the info...
I have my M for 2 years. Recently noticed that the leather is wearing on the drivers seat left bolster. It is noticeable since I have the pearl interior. It looks like the leather surface is cracking right where my belt would rub against the seat back. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m a big guy (250 lbs); maybe that’s the problem. What is the chance of Chrysler replacing the leather?
I noticed a seam opening on the drivers seat, and it was replaced under warranty without any questions asked. The car was well over two years old at the time.
There is a TSB covering the 1999-2001 models numbered 23-29-00 of July 7, 2000 that details a repair procedure for repairing rear door panels that are loose on the upper rear corner. It involves adding a screw and a noise-suppressing tape.
I have a problem with a water leak that hopefully you all can help me with. I purchased a 2001 300m in early July and had nothing but problems with it. In the months that I owned the car, I was able to drive the car approximately 1000 miles because of a really bad musty odor that developed. The smell was so bad that you could smell it 10 feet away from the car with the doors and windows shut! The dealer that I bought it from was not helpful at all. Ultimately Chrysler got involved and we replaced all of the seals in the car and eventually replaced the entire interior of the car. In the process they found that none of the seams were sealed properly at the factory. NONE of this solved the problem. The smell was still there. Whenever you got out of the car, the smell just clung to you.... Chrysler finally decided to buy the car back from me and gave me a 2002 300m in return. Thats where I am right now.
My current problem is that I just had some major stereo work done in the car, and in the process I got a call from my installer saying that I had a problem. When he lifted up the carpet, he found a huge pool of water in the passenger side floorboard that had also spread to the rear of the passenger. The new dealership that I was dealing with on the buyback is taking the car in tomorrow to try to find the problem. What I would like to know is if water leaks are a common problem in our cars and where to look for them? I cant believe that I have had 2 cars with the same problem. Is Chryslers quality control really this bad? I really do not feel like going through the entire process again. If you have any ideas let me know.....thanks -Mike
Thank you very much for the TSB. I shall inform my ?* dealer of this when I make my pre-warranty expiration appointment.

You said you were going to post a picture of the visor emblems after you installed them. As I've ordered the same ones I'd kinda like to see what they look like in place.
Man, with all the work I've been doing I forgot about a clock face! Is it possible to do a "MOMO DESIGN" clock face? Here's a link that shows what it would look like. The "MOMO" would be above and the "DESIGN" would be below.
