Does your seat move because not bolted properly, or is it because of power seat moving forward?
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
If this is what I think your talking about, it feels like a very slight looseness or extra slack in the seat track. You shift forward and back with the inertia. So, I think it's something to do with the seat itself and how it fits in the track on the floor.

    Just my $.02

Any idea where I could get my hands on the Startech 300M exhaust tips or similar one like the ones on the 300M startech.

Those are exactly what I am looking for.
  • glennbpglennbp Member Posts: 327
Here is a link to the Startech website. It's in Spanish (I think), but is relatively easy to negotiate. Maybe you can contact them directly to see if the tips are available. Let us know if you have any luck.

I used a HUJO design with a magna flow in the front and a dynomax in the middle back much like "BIG RED'S" setup. I have heard that their is an annoying noise @ 2500 rpm, If so what should I do about it and is it that bad.

Having work done as soon as magna flow arrives and I find the right tips.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
You shouldn't find that set-up to be too bad, even at 2000 - 2300 RPM. However, if you don't like it you can always have another small muffler spliced into your intermediate pipe before it gets to the rear muffler (at least that's according to the guy that installed my system)

Had out of state company from Longmont CO (Denverm's territory) come to visit. We did spend a couple of hours talking about cars. (not hard to do when you get 5 guys together) Had fun showing all my new hi-tech toys I added to my M. The rear camera as a real hit. People love to be on TV.
I hope there was a good turn out.

notified me today that my parts (seat bolts and door panels) finally came in. I will take it in Monday for them to put on. I do wish they would just give me the parts so that I could put them on myself. So I have to take off the wood trim on all the doors. Also my LEDs for my new front turn signals came in (a couple of weeks early) along with my new fog lamp to replace the one that got broken in the small accident I had. Some lady hit the front corner of my car (cracked my foglamp screw bracket(the black part that has the screws))in the parking lot a few weeks ago.. No scuffs or other damage. She paid me $150 to cover any damage. So Friday I will install the new one. I have to say that the ACC cement I used on the cracked one has really held up well.

At the auto show I noticed that that 2002 Lincoln LS had a nice wooden automatic shift knob. Anyone know of any sites where I might be able to look at it and/or order one? I've been surfing to no avail. Nothing like chrysler-parts.com or wyckoff for the LS?

    Thanks in advance

Lynn, if he lives close to you I bet he will be borrowing your car every time he needs to haul more than a bag of groceries. LOL

Is this car going to be a kit project? Good luck.

I've been looking for wooden shift knobs to match the zebrano wood also. No luck because of the release trigger. I haven't seen the wood in the local home improvement(to make one)centers. A couple of places I have looked at are http://www.caraddons.com , http://www.eautoworks.com (interesting stuff). Not much in wood but if you want colors ore carbon fiber.

A long long time ago in a galaxy....ok ok I'll get to the point.

A long while back someone talked about and posted links to a company that sells some kind of clear front end protector for the paint and headlights. Anyone happen to save that info?? If so I would love to see it again.

    Thank you in advance.

I've had a noticeable wobble in the steering wheel . The problem become more severe after the 36k warranty expired. As the tires continued to wear out the wobble became more noticeable not only in the steering wheel but the whole dash would shake and you can feel the vibration in the seat. Installed new eagle tires at about 48k miles. The shake and wobble was less with the new tires but was not eliminated. I now have about 51k miles and the wooble and shake is increasing. has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a fix? Or is this the start of expensive repairs? I love the 300m and have had no other problems. Thanks

No, I don't think my son will have to borrow my car often. He's married and his wife drives a Windstar, soon to be an Explorer, she says.
The Caterham is sold as a kit (Ithink that's the only reason it's legal), but the dealer (in Arlington, Texas by the way) will install the engine and tranny if the buyer prefers. The kit is actually a rolling chassis. I think the preferred engine is the Ford Zetec as it comes in a Contour SVT with a 5 speed from a European Ford Sierra.
In my younger days, I was the head of Flagging with the Texas Region of the SCCA and, as such, was able to obtain "demonstrator" sports cars to drive on race weekends at Green Valley Raceway, near Ft. Worth. One weekend I had a real Lotus Super Seven at my disposal. It was a real blast to drive. It had a Ford Cosworth 1.6 litre engine with a 4 speed. About 125 hp and it weighed less than 1100 lbs. It was so very quick and the handling had to be experienced to be believed. My son was about 6 at the time and I think that's when the bug to own one bit him.
That particular car was built from a kit and had no insulation between the driver and the engine compartment. Driving it from my home in Dallas to Green Valley North of Ft. Worth melted the soles of my sneakers! For my son's sake, I hope they are better insulated nowadays.

I highly doubt that you'll have any real expensive repairs for the wobble. Matter of fact, maybe you've missed it (almost impossible here) but needless to say, the Goodyear Eagle's are garbage. Many of us have the "Goodyear wobble" you mention. They're also very noisy.

I'd say this, when the crapyears start to wear, look into a new set of Dunlops, Bridgestones, Goodrich's, Michelin's, etc. Anything but Goodyear. This should be what eliminates the stupid wobble, or it may take a fresh allignment.
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
As Beach said, first thing to check would be the Goodyears. My 99 with the GY's started the steering wheel wobble with only 27K on the tires. Replacing them with a different brand completely eliminated the problem. However, a very small percentage of M's have had other front end problems causing wobbles and pulling and have proven to be very difficult to get the dealer's to fix or acknowledge. But, with 51K on your GY's I'd say it's due time for new tires and I bet it fixes the problem if you put on a different tire.
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
Opps...sorry I see you only have about 3K on the new GY's. I'd have GY check them out since they are under warranty, and you may want to try the Hunter balancing. Many M owners have gone round and round with GY and CHrysler re: those tires. They blame eachother and won't accept responsibility. For some reason they just don't seem to be compatible with the M. They became such a problem that Chrysler stopped putting them on the M's in 2001.

The things that happen when you go out of town! My darling wife is filled with bitterness and resentment that her Sebring Coupe doesn't have heated seats. She STEALS my M when I'm travelling. I came home from Anchorage last night to an ugly scratch and a smashed RF turn signal! The acts of contrition weren't too bad, though.

Here is what I have so far:

Magnaflow collector: are the stock pipes coming out of the cats 2-1/4"?

DynoMax 17739: 2-1/2" inlet and 2-1/4", inlet on my tips are 2-1/2" inlet.

Tips: Ractive T815 2-1/2" inlet, 3" wide 6" long large oval much like the startech M.

only problem I have is that my dynomax has 2 1/4" outlet and my tips are 2 1/2" inlet. What can I do to fix this problem? Can I just make the hole larger in the Dynomax outlet?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
The pipes from the cats are 2 1/4, which weld on to the 2 1/4 inlets to the magnaflow collector. The output of the magnaflow is 2 1/2, which is the same as the intermediate pipe (stock) that will run from the collector to the rear muffler. The input to the dynomax is 2 1/2, which matches the intermediate pipe, and the outlets are also 2 1/2. That means you will use 2 1/2 inch bent pipes to run from the dynomax to the tips, which also have a 2 1/2 inch inlet. Sounds perfect to me. Just have the shop weld the pieces together end-to-end (no slipovers) and you'll be good to go.

Looking forward to seeing those tips you got.

sdmike, I tried it, but my car is still ugly! Actually, the damaged area is relatively clean. My car has been sorta brown and gray with occasional white trim for so long that I sometimes forget it is red. Don't know if you stayed around here long enough to see that wonderful oily film that sand and calcium cloride deposits on a car. It is a law or something; when the DOT puts out the maximum amount of calcium cloride, urea, and all that other car rotting stuff, you run out of washer fluid on the way home from work with the sun in your eyes. I NEED warm and sunny.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Well, you can still get your airline ticket for the March meet! It was 90 and sunny with a nice breeze today! Normally it's in the 70s. Heck, I'd prefer the 70s, but it sure is nice sitting here at 8:30 pm with the windows and doors open wearing only shorts and a t-shirt. :)
  • achanceachance Member Posts: 106
I still might, it just depends on if I can get away from work. Evil StepSon is in Chula Vista playing baseball, so I might come down to catch a game or two. Car bending wife is coming down in April. What are "shorts"?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
like pants, but shorter. ;) Warn me when the evil wife is coming down. I'll make sure to hide Big Red.

morning, Mike..and all. Will be mailing out your 'package' this weekend. I'll email you a jpg file of the certificate, as I've also sent along some sheets of the simulated blue parchment paper.
Been fighting a really bad cold this week--weather in Noo Yawk has been in the mid-50's to low 60's--so weird. Plus Linda has cold also--did NOT get it from her..more than likely got from a fellow train/bus/whatever passenger.
Glad too to hear that more are coming. Gotta go...time to sneeze.....

Lynn, sounds like you had a lot of fun working with the SCCA. My uncle Kent Rogan had a hot Stage 3 TR-3 in the early '60s . He was very successful with this machine. I saw him race at the Galveston airport. I can still see the several TR's coming out of a turn in second gear and then flicking the overdrive switch to catch 2nd/OD. Speaking of sports car races, I used to crew for a guy in Germany at airport races. Also was a regular visitor at the Nurburgring, where you could run on the track and get a time for a single Deutschmark. I got to ride in some fast machines.

Could you please tell me again the name of the body shop you recommended in McKinney?

    thanks, Silver
  • lflowerslflowers Member Posts: 155
The dealer in Mckinney whose body shop did good work on my silver M is El Dorado Chrysler. They are located on the east side of 75, a couple of blocks north of 380 (extreme north outskirts of McKinney). I've had pretty good luck with their service department and excellent work from the body shop.
Yes, I had lots of fun around SCCA racing. We might have been at the Galsveston races at the same time. I worked as a flagman there several different years in the 60's. My wife didn't like camping on the beach though. She thought it was OK the first night, until we woke up the next morning and she saw all the fiddler crabs running around our sleeping bags!
I drive the Nurburgring often on my computer. I play around with an F1 racing simulation called Grand Prix Legends. It's based on the 1967 F1 season and one of the tracks then was the full 14+ mile per lap Nurburgring. It's a very challenging track to learn and you MUST have it totally memorized to even start to go fast there. The drivers back in that era had BIG ones! I'd love an opportunity to see and drive the 'ring in person though, for sure.

    garygregg1-

It sounds like you have a problem with worn front end parts, not primarily tires. Your post stated the wobble got better with new tires but was not eliminated. Have you had any other suspension or steering work done? At 51K the stock struts are likely worn, especially if you drive on less-than-smooth roads (e.g. many pot holes or dirt roads, etc.). I would agree with rebalancing the tires at a good shop which does DYNAMIC balancing (e.g Hunter equipment). The 300M, like many other performance-oriented sedans with low-profile tires, is sensitive to out-of-balance wheel/tire assemblies. BTW- Which GY Eagles did you buy? There are different Eagles (just like there are different Michelin Pilots). It is always possible tires are a part of your problem, but (again) if it got BETTER with the new Goodyears, I doubt the tires were the primary fault.

Sorry to post this question here in the 300M forum, but there's hardly any activity in the Sebring forum. I have a new 2002 Sebring Sedan that's 2 weeks old. Since it has basically the same transmission as the 300M, I was wondering if any of you have experienced a shudder when shifting the car into or out of park? I have never experienced this in my 2000 300M, but it occasionally happens in the Sebring. Is this a problem? I'd appreciate any replies.

    thanks,
    Mark
