This message board is much better than the recently altered Yahoo Groups board. I have noticed that very few are posting there ever since they changed over to heavy advertising format. That should increase postings here.
Also noticed that the 300M Enthusiasts Club message board has become much more active lately. And the layout is very convenient to help find discussions about specific topics.
You have to register before you can post a message but dont have to be a member of the club to use the board.
I noticed here on Edmunds that we are no longer in the top 10 list on Town Hall. Hopefully soon we will be back on top. If I recall, the 300M has more total posts than any other topic in Town Hall---OK guys, start your postings and put us back on top!
Hello gang! On Jan. 10, 2002 I finally got my 300M. A 99' Forest Green Beauty with 39K miles. Have nothing but praises for "MissM" so far.
I did alot of research before purchasing this vehicle and have read every post on this board! Lots of good info on here, and alot of good people too! Could not find anything to discourage me from my purchase. "True" some folks have had some misfortunes, but so do some owners of any automobile built.
Well, I just wanted to jump in here and get my feet wet and say hi. Look forward to chatting with you all.
Congratulations and welcome! You've come to the right place for information about your new car. I just noticed a 99 dark green M cruising near my neighborhood...you live in San Diego by any chance?
yeah Easy, there's been like 1 or 2 posts since everyone got mad about the changes over there at Yahoo. We encouraged everyone to come here and to the club message site. The other 300M Yahoo group is pretty inactive right now too. I'm not bothered that much by the avertising since I read and respond mostly via email without going to the site.
Mike, the 3 people with all 3 brake lights burning would be you, me, and now soon Roger?
It's a really simple mod, but you should have the 2001+ type tail lights, since they have three of the 3157 large style dual filament bulbs. The 99 set I have, has a little single filament bulb in the middle for the nightime running light.
Can whoever posted the site for the RC 300M car please do so again. I got a print of it off the site on 1 March, but now cannot get to it via the site on the print. Any help here would be appreciated.
I'm sorry to hear that. How many miles do you have? I have just over 5K miles & my CL-S seems fine. Also I found out from one of my sources that Rick Case doesn't have the best service. Ed Morse is supposed to be the better dealer for service.
Welcome and congrats on your new M! I also bought mine used (11K miles and 1 year old when I bought it) and have had very few problems and no regrets. I've put 37K miles on it since I bought it in October, 2000. I hope you enjoy your new M as much as I have enjoyed mine. I expect to put many more miles (and years) onto mine before I part with it! Have you taken a look at the club website yet? You should give it a look if you have'nt.
I purchased my PHG bright silver 2k used (6500 miles). The original owner won it in a golf tournament and had the dealer load it up with everything but the chrome wheels and cold weather kit. Only problem has been a couple of instances of the "light show"; more amusing than annoying. My only mods are peeling off the giant dealer plaque on the trunk and adding an Infinity BassLink. Now have 22k miles and love this car.
Lonestarsled-- I have been all over the ebay and Yahoo sites but cannot find the 300M RC cars anywhere. Course I am computer challenged most of the time, so that could explain it. But I know someone made a post here. I thought it was SDMIke, but he said not him, so I thought I would see if anyone else remembers the post. Can't go thru 15K posts looking for it.
I think I have that headlight switch problem some of you have mentioned -- but I don't know if anyone has had this specific problem. At dusk on my way home from work, I frequently drive with the parking and fog lights on (no headlights). Last week, twice while waiting to get on the freeway, I noticed a reflection in the car in front of me that looked like my lights were blinking on an off. The first time I moved the switch to off and back again to full headlights, etc. , then back to the fogs/parking lights only, and it did it again almost immediately. 2nd time (on another day) it stopped after I played with the switch. This weekend as I was waiting at a stop sign and I had the fog/parking lights on I could hear a clicking noise from the switch (no one was in front of me to see a reflection, but I assume the lights were blinking again). The noise stopped after I played with the switch again. I'm wondering if it only happens when I'm stopped. Or am I driving down the road lots of times with my fog lights blinking? Anyone else experience anything like this?
I see from recent posts that you like mountain biking, and I wonder what you use to transport your bike on your M. Up until last fall I had a truck and camper with a great bike rack. I was thinking of a roof rack, and then it dawned on me that I had a hole in the roof, and that's out. I do not want to have a hitch welded to the car as this is a lease, and I think I will buy it out at end of lease but I don't want to take any chances. Any suggestions? I have also got the bug to go camping again and may end up tenting again. (I've just about gone full circle) I was at Costco to-day and saw a great tent that fits in a suitcase and would not take up much room in the trunk of the M along with all my other camping gear. As you can see the weather here is starting to change and the birds are coming from the south so spring is almost here and I am getting the travel bug.
Okay guys, I knew you were waiting for something like this sooner or later! We have a problem with the Avalanche already. My mother works in a bank and has a corner desk surrounded by very large windows that wrap around the wall, and she always parks the car right behind her desk, outside. Customers and co-workers had commented about how beautiful the 300M was, but what about the Av.? What's the problem?
PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS ASKING IF THEY CAN GO OUTSIDE AND SEE IT!! Yesterday, an older guy she works with asked if he could go out and see it and when she looked, he had everything open and was sitting inside looking at all the buttons and smiling. Then, today, a customer asked if he could see it and she unlocked it because she knew him, and before long, he was climbing all through it too! People love our big black beast!
But, our favorite feature would have to be the Onstar! She just loves talking to one of the Onstar people or doing a phone call through the speakers with the touch of a button! It's so cool!
Didn't mean to imply that you could fix it, I know you are just the host, and not the gurus who made this system board. Just keep the pressure on them to fix these little iratating little bugs in the system.
I like the ideal of OnStar, but you may want to read the Febuary issue of Motor Trend where they compaired AAA, Onstar, and another road side asistance programs. OnStar was actually the slowest to respond, arrive, and fix, the problem (flat tire). I know Alpine has a very simular system although I opted out. I like the idea of telling them exactly where you are. I believe Consumer Reports did a very simular test, and came to the same concluesions. Tell your mom to remember to tell OnStar what configeration the truck is in so that they can spot it. LOL Boys (Men) always like thing like the transformers. I think it is in their blood to want to change things.
>I do not want to have a hitch welded to the car...
Chrysler parts offers a 2000 lb. class 1 hitch for a 300 that just bolts on easily. ( I've had mine off and on a couple of times to modify it). They also have a lighting adapter module and harness, (to couple multi lamp brake/signal circuits to single lamp trailer lights).
Any idea what a Mopar 300M bar could sell for? We bought the full bra a month after we got the M, and I've only used the hood part 3 or 4 times and the full bra twice. It's in brand new condition and always treated with leather care. Anyone interested?

Pat- I tried to make this the least like an ad as possible, with no price or pics.
Ok, I admit it, we've fallen off the top 10 because I've been busy. I'm building a deck/playhouse in the back, and I haven't even been IN Big Red for several days. I'm using the Grand Caravan with the seats all out for hauling lumber. You guys know that a 12 foot 2x6 of Nexwood is about $25...and it takes 22 of them to build a 10x12 foot deck!?! Yikes. This little project will be the death of both me and my wallet. Oh, Big Red is hauling kids around. Nice that 3 car seats fit in the back.
A little off topic, but I got a call the other day from my 5*'s customer satisfaction person about the transmission repair (or lack thereof) of my wife's Grand Caravan. I was very nice...no, really...and she had the shop foreman call me today. I'm to take the van in tomorrow, and they won't give it back until they're sure it's fixed. All repairs for free, AND a free rental car. Since the car is way out of factory warranty I think this is a pretty nice gesture. Sometimes it pays to be nice instead of yelling (although yelling is sometimes therapeutic).
Here's my Caravan story, to follow sdmike's topic detour: We just had our '93 in for some brake work. Dealer phoned and said the fuse for our cigarette lighter was blown, so wife said to go ahead and replace it. We couldn't get in to pick the van up during business hours, so she gave them a credit card number and they locked it up outside. Invoice says they charged us $35.95 labor to replace the blown fuse. Am I missing something here, or did we just get robbed?
Unfortunately a lot of dealers (and other repair places) charge work at "standards" that include a minimum. The standard for a set of plugs might be for an hour at $75, even though it might only take them 20 minutes. My guess is that your dealer had a 20 or 30 minute minimum on any repair work. You should call them and ask "was it good for you too?".
I haven't solved that problem yet. My bike used to fit into the trunk with the rear seats folded down (front wheel off), but now my basslink is in the way. Now I steal my wife's van or ride with my neighbor who has racks. Eventually I'll probalby move the basslink.
Thanks for the input, I don't want to put the bike in the trunk as I would do damage, I'm a bit of a Klutz, example, closing my garage door on the roof as I am driving in. Thank's for my ding doctor. I'll check around to see what I can come up with. If there is anyone reading this site with a solution, I think it would be well received.
Thirty six dollars sounds right. You have to figure it took six techs about 5 minuets all together to put it in. It is kind of like doctors charging you 100 dollars for an office visit, just to look at you. I tell them that I do not look that bad, that they have to charge me. I think I look pretty good. Maybe I should charge them. I wonder of glamor models have to pay for a doctor to see them?????????
What's more important for 0-60 times? Horsepower or torque?
I always thought that the more torque you have the faster you'll get off the line. But you need lots of horsepower to get a higher top speed. Is this correct?
Well Blonda this is a problem one could have and not ever realize it I have not experienced this but have an idea of what may be wrong.
The clicking noise your hearing is probably the fog lamp relay which is located in the fuse compartment on the drivers side end dash. A loose relay or light corrosion on the relay pins or relay terminal block could cause a poor connection and induce the flashing light symptom.
Simply re seating the fog lamp relay may cure the problem. Another thing I would try is swapping the fog lamp relay with the park lamp relay or high beam relay. If the problem moves to the park lamps then you know the relay is bad. I would be cautious swapping with the head lamp relay as you wouldn't want to be cruising with the main candles flashing on and off...lol
If you want to try this I can send you a diagram identifying the associated relays. If it is not a relay problem you could be looking at a faulty ground circuit, bad connection between the head lamp switch and body control module, faulty switch or faulty body control module.
Hopefully it is just a simple and inexpensive relay.
Why would your mom and dad buy a 2wd Chevy SUV? Your family goes from a Sport Luxury car to basically a Pickup with a part time bed cover. A plastic covered Pickup at that. Worse yet... a GM product. Can you tell how much I dislike GM Products? Wait until the Electrical problems start. Or the engine dying at 50K miles. Or, the joy of replacing the first, then second, or maybe third Muffler. Well, enjoy the "truck". Your mom will be the envy of all the other soccer moms on the block.

So far Rick Case has been good although I am not crazy about driving a 4-banger Dodge Stratus.
However I have not heard from them since I dropped of my car there. I guess I'm gonna call and see what's up.

For an explanation of why it is that way and suggestions on how to work with the realities of its shortcomings, you might want to read this: pat "Lost in the Town Hall? Ask the Sedans Host for directions!" Nov 13, 2001 12:49pm.
Unfortunately, it is something we just have to live with.
