I thnk you're wrong about your wife feeling guilty..... feeling guilty and apologizing is definitely the HUSBAND's job, not the wife's! Some years ago I decided I wanted to grow a beard. After about a month I gave up and shaved. I decided celibacy didn't agree with me.
After 44 years of marriage I have found it saves a lot of time and trouble to go ahead and admit guilt (whether I know what I'm guilty of or not) and apologize right away to get it over with. I think that's the secret of a long marriage.

Don't get too excited, he bought what's a good vehicle for him--it was a grandma's car. So, it's not an SS, but rather a Malibu with a few odd options. It has a 307 V8 and a 2-speed Powerglide. Powerwise from the engine, he loves it, but says if he had the money, he'd change out the transmission. So would I, 2 speeds, basically low and high, just isn't enough, especially when you're at highway speeds and the car just feels like it's maxed out. It needs another gear or two.

The car is very smooth though. It runs well and rides very smooth, with some of the original float and looseness eliminated lately with the new shocks all around. And, he's done a little work on certain engine components. He also did a cool and creative mod, placing an old door bell in an area on the dash that controls the windshield washers. If you didn't know what it was, you'd never know what it was. He's very creative sometimes you can tell.

Another thing he did was buy 4 new SS wheel replicas and tires to replace the standard steel wheels with hubcaps that came on the car. It's light blue with a dark blue interior. I'm going to get some pics up soon.

Did I let him get it? Heck no. Actually I told him sure....if you can finance the full 25K and make the payments without compromising our household budget...you go right ahead (of course he can't do that). It is an SS though and I'm sure it's beautiful (black with those 2 wide white strips across it). $25K is what I paid for my M...1 year old with 11K miles. (seems like a lot considering what they are going for now but at the time bluebook was just under 29K). But the sad thing is, in 33 years that M won't be going for 25K no matter how perfect condition it is.

For my 40th birthday I told my wife I wanted to get a Motorcycle. I had my eye on a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500. I even went so far as to get the permit before she sald, "Me, or the Bike." I hope you let your husband down easier than that.

Gee.......I must have been having my mid-life crisis when I got my first car, a '70 SS 396 when I was 17 years old in '78! Purchased for 2k when it was just considered a gas guzzlin old chevy. Car is still in the garage awaiting a full frame off resto. It was nice back then because if you bought an SS chevelle you were getting the real deal, now days you have to be careful that you are not paying big bucks for a cloned SS.

We will be driveing a Chrysler 300T by then, and wondering if they are going to ever put the Nuclar fusion plant under the hood.

I started a chat discussion and was informed that I should have posted in the"Maintenance" section.

Since this is a 300M I hope I don't get arrested for bringing it up here.

At 75,000 miles I'm on my third set of front rotors. I need to find out if anyone else is experiencing terrible warping and extremely short longevity of Pads. I have actully found an after market source @$105 each rotor, and $40 for extreme duty pads.

Please let me know if you have any onfo.

    Thanks.

The primary reason for warped rotors is uneven and/or excessive tightening of the lug nuts. Be sure all of your lugnuts are torqued to 80 ft/lbs. Another reason can be blown suspension components and joints, but if that were the case you would know it by the way the car handles and rides.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
It is interesting, that the service manual gives two different torque settings. One part says 129Nm (95 ft lbs) and under the Specifications it states 135 Nm (100 ft lbs) I have mine set at 100 lbs. For three years not a single problem with any warped roters, come to think of it I have never had a car with warped rotors.

    blonda-

My "favorite" Stephen King movie, CHRISTINE, is on TV right now on TNT- 9:40 AM EST. Maybe you should bring your TV out to the garage and have your car watch it! ;-)) They can flash lights back and forth! Maybe it will reprogram your BCM? ;-))

At least two of the eleven drivers that attended the Carlsbad club meet indicated they were having trouble with warped rotors. This is bit too high of a percentage for my liking. I owned a Mitsubishi Galant that would warp its rotors enough to be annoying about every 8,000 miles. By the time I got rid of it (and bought the M) at about 25,000 miles I had the rotors turned 4 times and replaced once. Mitsubishi said they finally fixed the problem by changing out a couple of components of the front suspension (one under recall), so it's not just the rotor materials that we're talking about here. Several people on this board have indicated that they're looking to replace their stock rotors, and at least one that I know of (Scott Jensen...Scotian) has done his. Seems that this is a problem that's a little more frequent than one might expect.

Oh, and you can post anything about your M here...we won't harass ya! Heck, we even "let" fastdriver and ruski post here, and they've replaced their Ms with Acuras. :)

I am also having problems with this... I have about replaced the rotors with stock rotors, and its good for a little while and whamo, their warped again...

A few days ago I decided to order 4 KVR Cross Drilled Silver Cadmium Plated Rotors, along with some Porterfield Pads... Hopefully this will be the end to my problem (at least I hope)

Has anyone here installed pedal covers ? Im wondering what size to get... I keep seeing small medium and large sizes, but they dont give dimensions for the sizes...
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
What are pedal covers supposed to accomplish?
  • fastdriverfastdriver Member Posts: 2,273
    sdmike2-

I know. I just love to see everyone's pics and mods and hear about all the "5-STAR" dealers and their antics. I just can't believe how DC lets them get away with all their crap. Yes, any car can have legitimate problems, but when you go to the dealer for help, you don't want to hear their feeble, ridiculous, assinine EXCUSES. You want them to fix it even if it takes several tries.

Like I said a LONG time ago, if my dealer experiences/zone rep experiences were better than they were, I'd probably still have a 300M. I certainly don't miss all that nonsense for a second!

Someone was looking for one of these a few days back. There are four currently available on EBay.

thanks. Thinking about my own "eye candy" as the next mod for big red....painting the calipers. I like the look of yours, and I think doing mine red would be wicked. I might need to do it in your driveway though. I don't have a floor jack.

By the way, you won't recognize my project in back. Getting ready to frame out the club house today. Got the railings completed yesterday. When this is done I'm going to need a chiropractor and a masseuse. Lucky for me that my wife is a masseuse and her best friend is a chiropractor. lol

Nice. That is a dutch auction for 4 of them, meaning that the 4 highest bidders will each win one (or more, if a person bids on more than one). The person looking for this was Bigmike5.

I just got a catalog from Performance Bike yesterday and prominently displayed on the back cover was a hitch mounted tray rack for two bikes. It's nice. It uses a 2 inch hitch, and the rack has trays and fork-mount bolts to make things easy. it's also cheap...only $120. Here's the link.

    http://www.performancebike.com/shop/Profile.html?SKU=12612

Here is the link to the page for the entire bike rack category:

Has anyone here put a trailer hitch on their M? If so, can you post pictures? Thanks in advance.

mikeyjohn - www.chrysler-parts.com has the 300m roof rack for $190, but then you'd have to add one or more carriers at about $100 each. Not a cheap solution. On the other hand, they have the hitch for $120, then you could add the Performance Bike hitch carrier for $120 and come in at about 1/2 the price of a roof-top solution.

Just took the plunge and ordered a billet grill. The front plate has to go - hope the cops have a sporting nature about that. There are seven or eight Ms in town and about half have front plates.

I had a LeBaron Turbo Coupe that hopelessly warped a set of rotors annually - Chrysler just replaced them as long as it was in warranty, those were the 7/70 days. My M warped the original set and DC replaced them. I've been very careful about torque at tire changeover time, and so far, so good. The explanation I got from Chrysler back with the LeBaron was the fact that I drove in the wet so much caused the warping (this is a VERY rainy place). If it did, it shouldn't have, but they paid and I didn't care.

I haven't had any rotor problems (yet), and I'm wondering whether the folks who have experienced this problem own M's with PHG or without PHG. Since the rotors (and pads, I think) are different, I'm curious if one or the other is more prone to this problem.
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
I just had my non PHP rotors resurfaced yesterday at 42K miles. I started noticing the pulsing when braking at least 3K miles ago. The pads were actually in pretty good shape, but I had them replaced while they were at it. I get the tires rotated at Discount Tire who claims they "properly hand torque"so who knows why they didn't last that long.

Thanks for the bike rack info, I also spent the morning going through the whole 300 site( give me a hobby) as I was curious as to when I first signed up. I did not sign until June 2001. There sure have been lots of folks who have contributed in the past, who you do not hear of any more. Maybe they got a life. My wife tells me to get a life when she sees me playing with this computer. I guess I could be sitting in a bar telling war stories. Happy Easter everyone!!!!!!!!

I have 32k on a non PHP 2000 M and have had the pulsating pedal for about 8 months. I have had tires rotated at Speedy muffler and never had a problem with them as they use a torque stick to properly torque lug nuts. But I brought it into Sullivan tire to get a defective tire replace and had problems ever since. I asked them to properly torque them but the symptoms tell me they may not have.

I will live with the slight pulsation until I need pads---still have about 10k left on the fronts. I will have rotors resurfaced at that time as long as they are within specs.

Went to Auto World today to price out the air charger and they didn't have them listed for the 300M. The Toyota unit looked similar and he said $210. Is that how much ours are? Also Bosch +4's were $5.99, tat sems like what people have been paying.
He mentioned that the K & N filter conversion could void our warranties.
    Fill me in somebody.
I think I ticked the guy off when he was trying to sell some guy some stick=on window shields & I said go look at the MacNeil"s on the 300M in the parking lot, you'll like 'em better than the stick-ons. LOL
Thanks for any help on the K & N ????
    Rick
  • glennbpglennbp Member Posts: 327
There is no reason whatsoever the Aircharger would void any warranty. It functions exactly the same as the stock system except it allows much freer air flow. Duh!, that's why it exists! I paid $230.00 for mine so the price you were quoted is pretty close. Nice move on the window deflectors; I always enjoy blowing sales people away with better stuff than they have!
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The guy is blowing smoke. As long as it is designed for vehiles to be used for that purpose, it does not void any warranties. Now if you change out the muffler and cause damage to it then that voids the muffler warranty for example.

It is interesting that over time the group has changed. Fastdriver Russ, Emale, Ruski Bushpilet, and a few others seemed to control the board. Now a new generation is takeing over. So many new names. I is still a great board. It will be interesting to see what happens in another four years.

easyrider300m - it takes about 3.5 hour drive , thats at our 100 KPH speed limit(60 MPH) . I once did it in just a little under 3 hours . Hope this helps you .
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
60 Miles Per Hour!!! What kind of country are you running there????????????? For a country that makes these beautiful car, 100kph (60 mph) is just too slow. Run for an office to get it changed. Question, if I drive there, can I get diplomatic Immunity< or must I use the Temperary Insaneity ? I could say that I saw the 100 signs and thought it was MPH, not KPH. :) Have a good one and then get back to making those cars :)
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
For me it is a 36 hour drive. There is also sightseeing, so I guess I had better start on my way, or I will be late.
