When I first heard about them, I am not sure if it was Tucson Gil or DenverM who was put on to them to try to cure the shakes in the Badyears, I checked out their web site and they had some really "heavy" testimonials from a Jaguar dealer [who did all his new cars with the stuff upon arrival at the dealership] and an S & S Tire shop guy in Danville, KY who swore by the stuff. Those testimonials are no longer on their site, but them impressed me enough to want to try the stuff. We will see how it works, but for $12 a tire, and a supposedly "lifetime" balance job [don't know exactly what that really means, or how one balance job could last forever, but...] I won't go broke trying it out.

This from the DaimlerChrysler Media Website:

Daimler Chrysler today released preliminary details for the 2005 300N, Chrysler's flagship model. The 300N, which will become available in mid-2004, will be based off the current Neon platform. In making the announcement, Chrysler Group President Dieter Zetsche stated: "This is a natural progression of the 300 concept, tailored to the realities of the new millenium. This dynamic new vehicle will utilize the current Neon platform, but with an exciting new naturally aspirated 2.5 litre V-6 producing 210 horsepower. Combining style with economy and practicality, we believe that this vehicle will become the benchmark in the midsize economy performance segment."

A gasoline/electric hybrid version of the 300N will become available within a year of the introduction of the 2005.

I live in Seattle, WA, my M is 2001 Almond Pearl.
I am planning to get my windows tinted (probably 35%), Sunguard film. Was quoted $290 for my 300M at one place - they do jobs for local Lexus, Jaguar, and Mercedes dealers. My local 5* referred me to the another place that will do the job for $219.
Does this seem like a fair price? is there a particular film that works best on our Ms? I know that professional installation is very important, and would probably check out both places for refs before I do this. Can anyone recommend a good tinting shop in Seattle?
Also, any problems with defroster and/or integrated AM/FM radio antenna after applying the film?

Thank heavens that hmk123 correctly identified it as 4/1. I almost fell out of my chair!
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I have llumar tint and I'm very happy with it. Like you I opted for a medium tinting...30% for me I believe, with 50% on the front side windows (which are against the law to tint in california). My radio reception and defroster operation are as they were before the tint. I paid just over $200 for mine. Hope that helps. http://www.ritchiefamily.com/car/noletters.jpg

I don't know about Seattle, but here in San Diego (where prices are high!), I paid $220.00 to have all 5 windows tinted with Llumar film. The back 3 are dark (40%) and the front 2 are medium (30%). I have had no problems with radio reception or any bubbling or peeling. I believe the films of today are so good, that if done correctly, you should have no problems at all. Most places also guarantee their work, so I would go with the less expensive as long as they use a good film.

thanks for the info on the tint. Llumar is what the more expensive guy would use on my car. They give a lifetime guarantee on the job and can do the job on Wed! I cant wait to have tinted windows!
Sorry about a duplicate post - it seems that our proxy server at work messes things up.
BTW, your car looks awesome with the tinted windows, I hope that my color would look good too.

If I was able to cause any distress to anyone, no matter how short in duration, it was worth it. I got nailed at least twice today.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
In case your post didn't contain a typo, the tint numbers represent the percentage of light that passes through the tint. The lower the number, the darker the tint. "Limo" tint...the real dark stuff, is something like 15.

You almost had 270 M owners stampeading over to Brampton, that would have made the plant look like ground zero. The one good thing about it is we would be able to get some good Mod Parts for the M since the Neon is the only Chrysler product that has a large selection of them.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I ill tell you what, I will mail a 2,000 mile 2.5" hose to you if you do the same for me. Then we can each hook up a shop vac to them and I can blow 95 degree air to you and you can blow 45 degree air to me. Talk about foriegn Exchange Programs.

I'm in Seattle and got mine tinted at Ziebart. I Don't remember the cost, but they did a good job for a lot less than some of the other places I looked into. 35% is the limit in WA for all windows. You can go darker on the rears if you like the look. I got the moonroof tinted too

BTW, join the 300M Enthusiasts Club and come to a BBQ at the Presidents house (me) on May 11th. I already have several members coming, several of us with dual exhaust and various other mods.

You got it, it was bloody cold here to-day with a brisk north wind, you could hear it howling all last night, then I looked at the newspaper this morning and see it is in the high 80's in Vegas, and it is only a 2 hour flight from here. It just ain't fair. Sob.

They said they would send the spacers to me tomorrow, (I hope it is not an April's fool joke) We shall see. Thanks for all your help.
Of course that means I have to re do the scoop duct, to gain somemore clearance for the engine, when I use the spacers. The dealer said they would install the springs if I had new struts put on. I am going to see how hard it is to do since I have the spring compressors already.

    Ok guys I need advice...

I want to Paint my calipers before I put on the new KVR Cross Drilled Rotors... I picked up some 1500 degree Black, Silver, and Clear paint. Im having some custom decals made up of the kvr logo on their web page... I plan on painting the calipers silver (few Coats), then put on the decals, and paint the calipers black(few more coats), then remove the decals and do a few clear coats... sounds good in theory to me... but is their anything I should avoid painting when I do it ? I noticed the clip right on the front, can this be painted ?

    ducati52-

I grew up in Detroit & still visit family there regularly. I second your thoughts on Detroit. Most roads and hotels are indeed a bit "rough", (except for the "upscale" suburbs). Street crime continues to be a serious problem. The Windsor side is nicer IF you respect the Canadian rules (e.g. no radar detectors (many are confiscated at the border and a fine assessed- (not all border guards will let you off with a warning), NO FIREARMS without massive paperwork pre-approval, & no speeding since tickets are an "on-the-spot shakedown"-as in pay-up or go to jail). And do not even think about fishing/hunting in the Great White North without an expensive non-resident license.
In general, though, behave yourself in Canada & you'll have no problems. Even with the casino, rooms in Windsor can be reserved most non-holiday weekends without too much trouble.

Roger, I am in Seattle too and have been looking for a good shop to tint my Buick's windows. Did you find Ziebart in the city or up in your neck of the woods?

got the check the other day. Also, your wife just shook me down for another $15. :) I can proudly say I "re-upped" in the 300 M club! :)

It is the same in the US if I wanted to hunt or fish, so it is not exclusive. There is no paperwork that you could do to bring firearms into Canada under any circumstances. It appears that the only people that can carry firearms in Canada are law enforcement and criminals, we now have new gun laws that has cost the people about half a billion bucks, that is almost unenforceable.

Customs on the Canadian side do not have the right to seize radar detectors or give fines. They can suggest you put them in your trunk. Only the police have that authority. If they were being transported over the border for re-sale and was not declared, then that is another story. Go to any Canadian border crossing and see the number of weapons confiscated from people who were trying to smuggle them into the country. If you decare them at the border they will hold them until you cross back over, unless US authorities suggest otherwise.

One of my favorite bits from comedian stephen wright (known for his deadpan style) goes something like this:

I went to canada for a visit last week, and when I got to the border the customs agent asked me "do you have any illegal firearms"? I said, "what do you need?".

I'm really dissapointed that there aren't any American based company that makes body kits for our M's. But in Germany there are 3; Lorinser, Startech and CS. What gives? Our M is an American car.

$290 for tinting sounds very high to me, but it may have to do with competition. Here in the Valley of the Sun there is a very long list of people who tint windows. I paid $135 for a good tint with a lifetime warranty.

The Ziebart I went to is in Bellevue on NE 20th. I also had the clear protective stuff put on my headlights at the same time. Very satisfied with the results so far.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
Yup, got the check. Looks very nice. If you give me the info for the company we can put it on the web site for other owners.
  • andy300mandy300m Member Posts: 95
Thanks for the info on Ziebart. I will check them out - some people on the Window Tinting board complained about one of their shop in CA (they are now out of business). Will stop by the Bellevue Ziebart during lunch.

I plan on coming over on 11th. Thanks for the invite!

Just came back from my 5* dealer - they tried to fix a problem with my hood that THEY caused (Lynnwood Dodge) when they lubed door and hood hinges. Their guy could not get it right so they are sending me to a local body shop. Not sure how one can mess it up so much that I now have to go to a body shop. It looks like it not closed all the way. I bought the car used, therefore I dont know its history. Hope it has not been in an accident.
What surprises me is that it used to be fine before I took it in for service (AC belt replacement that was causing lots of noise at cold start). I also had a windshield crack repaired last week (my insurance covered 100%) that I did not notice before the visit to the dealer.
I doubt I will ever go back to Lynnwood Dodge again. Those of you in Seattle, can you recommend an honest 5* shop in Seattle-Bellevue-Lynnwood area?

I have had brake problems with my 2000 non PHP M since 5000 miles on the odometer.

At first the problem was brake fade which made me feel less than sure about my ability to stop as well as slight sterring wheel shake. I Refaced rotors and replaced pads with ceramic. Pedal feel improved, fade subsided, shake is history.

At appx 10000 miles, the steering wheel begins to shake once more. Back to the shop for new OEM rotors and another set of pads (semi metallic). Pedal feel now excellent.

At 15000 miles, steering wheel shake returns with a vengance. Mechanic shows me old rotors which had gotten so hot, that the metal had actually turned blue. Replace front rotors with KVR cross-drilled and return to ceramic pads to lower the heat transfer to the rotors. Pedal feel now excellent, and shake gone, BUT as the KVR rotors heat up under use, you can hear a groan from the rotors as you come to a stop. Called KVR. Was told that the tech would get back to me, still hasn't.

It is maddening not to be able to solve this one issue with what has otherwise been a faultless automobile.

from the Doc. Someone here posted that they were going to try the Tornado Air (something I thought about doing, but after getting flamed....hmmmmm...). I too would be curious to see if it really does what they claim it will do.

Also, another ? on tire shine stuff. I know many here use the Zaino stuff, but have also head good things about Meguire's Endurance and have been seeing adds for WheelWax. What sya you all?

I had the same problem with my KVR brakes. The pads I had were just too hard for the rotor. I had to live with it, or get some softer pads. I lived with it a few weeks, but did get some softer Performance Friction pads. Squeal was gone.
  • jona57jona57 Member Posts: 194
Perhaps the reason that there are more Teutonic manufacturers of body kits for the 300M is that Germans better appreciate fine automobiles!!!

My preference for tire dressing is Meguiar's Endurance. It gives a decent "glow" rather than a fake high gloss, does not spray out onto your paint (from centrifugal force of the rotating tire), and lasts as long as anything I've tried.

    mikeyjohn-
I mean no disrespect, but Canadians tend to be MUCH more serious about enforcing fish & game laws than we are in the US (and properly so IMHO). I have never heard of Michigan DNR agents jailing a Canadian fiherman for fishing in US waters without a license, as Canadian agents have been reported to do to US fisherman (See Detroit News over past few years). It is my understanding from what I have read (various sporting magazines) that long guns can still be transported into Canada for guided hunting purposes but the paperwork process is long, arduous, and commonly subject to denial. Needless to say, the hunting industry in Canada is not happy about those regulations. Police often "hang-out" on both sides of the Windsor and Sarnia crossings to "enforce" provincial/state laws (inc. radar detector regulations, drunk driving). On the US side cops refer to this as "cherry picking"- easy tickets/busts for minimal effort. Regarding "declaring" firearms at the Canadian border, I would NEVER trust that the border authorities would "check" a firearm until your return to the states unless you are a sworn police officer (& can prove it). Many US servicemen have been jailed in Canada over the years for thinking they could "declare" a handgun (e.g. while driving from the lower 48 to bases in Alaska-See numerous articles in Air Force Times).

As I said, I grew up in Detroit & visit frequently. Canada is a fine country to visit & the dollar exchange rate is wonderful now, but Canada is NOT the "51st State" as so many ignorant Americans assume. It is a foreign country with its own rules & regulations (and a WONDERFUL auto plant in Ontario!).
Respect those rules & have fun times visiting.

    Hi All,

I have had my 300 for nearly a year and have about 12.5k on it. I am getting terrible mileage in the city about 15-17 mpg I have a K&N Air Filter in anything else I can do to try and get better mileage. On the highway it get 21-23 mpg. Anything I can do or have my local 5* check to improve my mileage.

    TIA
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
My 99 has 42K and I have always averaged 16-18 city at best. Best I have gotten on highway is 25 with straight freeway, no stop and go. I have K&N and duals and there may be a slight improvement but not much. Basically it's the norm and I have always assumed because CA has that MTB additive (or whatever they call it) the mileage is worse than some get in other states. (but I do have a lead foot so I'm sure that may have something to do with it!)
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
Thanks, for your clarification. I am in western Canada and maybe our custom people and police walk by a different drummer. We have good rappore with the US group at the Montana border, and hunting is quite an industry out here, but our gun laws have changed in the last few years and not for the better, as it is the criminals who have all the rights.I have talked to US military personell who have been passing through on their way to bases in Alaska, and some have mentioned that they were informed of the gun laws and the transportation of same, by the US military, and the paperwork was properly done prior to leaving the US. It is the few that don't think the rules that apply to them that cause these problems. The use of radar detectors is not illegal in my province, but a waste of money with the new equipment that the police have. It's people like me who have a lead foot that allows our police to have the latest equipment, man this M sure does go!!!!!!!!

The Maguire's Endurance is great. Lasts a long time and the gloss isn't phony. Easier to put on than a spray IMHO. No overspray. Use all of their products. Really nice line. Check out their website on the package and they will reccommend the right products for your geographical environment.

It's nice to see a bunch of new names posting on this board. At least for me as I didn't recogize several of the names in the last 20 or so posts.

Gas mileage-As Blonda said in her post the gas milage is what you should expect to get. Your driving a big car with a 250 hp engine. I didn't buy my M to save on gas and if I had to do so I'd have bought a four banger Sebring (Which my daughter has and it is also a nice car but not a 300M) And I guess that as my company pays for my gas: who cares what the gas costs :)

Another 4" of snow here in Ontario to-day. My Zaino stuff is evaporating and turning into sludge before I'll even get a chance to use it.

Here's an idea on the gas mileage problem. Switch to Amsoil 0W-30 synthetic oil, tranny fluid, diferential gear oil, and PI performance improver gas additive. www.amsoil.com

This varies from car to car, even the same make, but some people see lots of mileage gain, others very little. I see some on my car, as I get 20 mph in the city and 28-30 highway.

Even if you don't gain much in mileage, you can save money by not changing your oil so often and using superior low friction lubricants. Look in you local white pages under Amsoil and you will probably find several local independent dealers that can help you out and tell you factual information about these great products. The web site is also very good. I've been using these products since 1985 and get low operating temperatures, better mileage, and less inconvienence of fluid maintenance. I change oil in my vehicles once a year and tranny and gear oil one time when new after break in metals have settled.

Please don't flame me for getting on my Amsoil soap box yet again (you long time readers of this board know what I mean) :) I don't promote things unless I believe in them passionately. After 17 years, it's clear I am a believer.

Here's a good analogy. Amsoil is to all other oils what Zaino is to all other waxes. :D

In my 2001 non-PHP (15,000 miles, Hujo-style duals, K&N Aircharger, Bosch +4's, synthetic oil in crankcase), I average 21 - 22 mpg overall. I usually burn premium and drive mostly in the country (North Carolina) on two-lane roads with little stop and go city action. This mpg is measured using the car's computer. I see a small decrease with 87 octane and about the same results, but possibly less performance, with 89 octane.
The car is not babied. I drive it hard and like to hear the duals growl. I have not stretched it out on a long, steady speed, interstate highway trip yet, but hope it will jump up to the 25's (at least) when I do.

    MOPAR or no car!

do you use 0-30 year round--is using a 0 safe in the winter?

when you changed the tranny fluid did you do a complete flush?---how many quarts does it take to do a complete flush?

how much is the tranny fluid--does it come in only one type--does it state atf4 compatible--can you mix it with the atf4

Fuzzy, what pads did you use to eliminate the squeal ?

Muskateer3, are you hearing the groan using the KVR Pads ?

Scotian, any complaints with the Porterfield Pads ? I ordered the same ones you did.

this is one problem I want to avoid before I get these installed.

Blonda, Yes that Reformulated gas is part of the cause. When I drive in California, I get around 24 mpg (doing 80 with 4 adults and trunk full of luggage) I try to plan so I am near empty near the border so I can get Arizona gasoline. My mileage jumps to 27 (doing 85). If you drive slow (say 55, I know don't laugh) you will get much better mileage. But time is an important consideration too.

At least you northerners have a decent border to cross. The Canadan Law enforcement personal are pretty good. As for us in the southern border is is much more iffy. The Mexican Law inforcement personal on average is much more corrupt. As for any time you cross a border (even in the states) you must obey there laws, if not you enter at your own risk. Maybe we can get an Police excort to the Plant?
