I never thought about the shifter cables being a part of the interior. I figured that would be a transmission part.

The local dealer is doing the work and it should be finished today. Once I get the paperwork, I may give my extended warranty company a call and confirm that it wasn't a warranted part. I just wonder how many other things aren't covered with their vauge language.

I sent you a return e-mail but it bounced back as "user unknown". Here's the text of the email:

The trim has 3M adhesive tape on the back for sticking it down. Once stuck it
doesn't come off! :) The hair dryer in the picture was to warm up the pieces, as
they're the easiest to manipulate and apply when they're warm. The material is
actually a thin wood strip with an epoxy resin coating...just like OEM wood
trim. The process is to clean the area where the trim goes with alcohol, apply
an "adhesive helper" that they provide you, and then CAREFULLY apply the trim
after removing the backing tape. It's easy on small pieces, but the larger ones
    take some pre-fitting and patience.

    Good luck!

Good to see you posting. I know you lurk! ;-)) Lottery? Ha-ha! CT is in the RED! How could that possibly be with all the MILLIONS they get EVERY month from the two casinos? I just don't get it!

The cigarette tax just went up yesterday. I think it's $1.51 a pack now. They're now something like $5.00+ a PACK!! Wonder what tax they'll increase next when everyone stops smoking or starts buying them online? They should raise the booze tax too. That lobby must be stronger than the cigarette lobby! ;-))

Glad your car is not another Christine. I'm even happier that my new one isn't either. Almost 14,000 miles and not one problem to complain about. How BORING!! ;-))) Hope you have many more trouble-free miles.

well, its springtime and Im ready for some nice logoed floormats---is the club planning on offering these or should I start shopping? If the club is planning this, when would they become available?

Osbourne: my brother owned one of those---he couldnt put up with the dos system and barely used it. He sold it shortly after buying it. But he got a lot more than the $41 offered on ebay. I wonder what an early Apple computer is selling for or a Radio Shack Trw model.

answered my own question: there is an apple IIe computer for sale ebay---and it is presently bid at $1.25. yes, thats a buck and a quarter--but there is minimum required bid of $1.50. So you too can have a real computer for less that the price of a Big Mac with fries. The only catch is the cost of shipping is $20. But its a cheaper door stop than the Osbourne!

I have also been trying to find a good aluminum dash kit. You can go here to see pics of what the aluminum dash kit will look like:

    http://www.autodash.com/details.lasso?sn=2330&pn=ch-300mp00cc-pk

and select view photo. This kit also has carbon fiber accents.

I have an LHS w/agate interior and have found absolutely nothing for the LHS, the console is different around the shifter compared to the 300M.

In a couple of weeks I will be removing the trim and sending it to these guys:

    http://www.deco-tech.com/

They have a decent simulated brushed aluminum finish. They use a standard OEM finishing technique on your trim. I like this better than the stick on stuff because you will not have fitment problems and they can do any part that you send to them. Estimated cost is about $130 but you have to do quite a bit of disassembly.

Mmmmm......you mean a "5-STAR" sold you a used 300M that had been in an accident and they didn't tell you? Wow!

    andy300-

Was the car originally sold by them? Did they take it in trade? Tell them to run the VIN on THEIR Chrysler computer. That should provide all the history on the car. Maybe you need to contact your state consumer protection department or state motor vehicle department to see if they can get the low down on this car. The former owner might be a good place to start to see if the dealer knew about any fenfer benders. Maybe you could also find out from the motor vehicle department what insurance company the former owner had and check with them.

If you wait until the dealer "helps" you, you'll have a LONG wait! I wouldn't sit back. Good luck trying to get the dealer to help. They don't even help when the car is new and under warranty.

Will only have records if the car was taken to a reputatable shop to have the work done. If it was done by a "backyard Machanic" or such, as I am, it will not show up. You had mentioned earlier, I believe that it did not show until the dealer did some work on it???? Maybe they did something (had an accident) with it.

can be lessened by adding another resonator into the exhaust system between the collector and the muffler. I think Michael Hujo posted the part numbers a year back.

I heard some of those early Macs have a personal signature of Steve Jobs. Supposed to be quite special and those cost a lot of money.

  • bigmike5bigmike5 Member Posts: 960
Had another door lock activator quit this a.m. I was lucky to notice it right away. At least this time it stays in the locked position not like the last time when it stayed up. I am a little fuzzy on it, but I think it is even the same door. Passenger side front. Going in Tues. for a dealer look see and to order the part. A small iritant. Probably a rice-burner rejected part foisted on to DC. Replaced the last one in Jun 01.

We used to be issued pro kits in my younger days in the army when I was stationed in Germany. LOL Are we now getting them for our cars? I'm feeling very young again!!!!!!!
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
Have you gotten your replacement piece yet? I got mine yesterday (driver's window control and side mirror). I think I asked for the replacement at least a week after you did. They look okay, but I'm probably not going to use them anyway -- just wanted to have them since I paid so much $$ for the kit.

Morning, all. SPECIAL thanks to ceikost who emailed me with alldata numbers for the subject of this message. 1* local dealer 'observed' the problem and has ordered new gasketing (?). Now, my schweetie will have to go back next Thursday for installation. while she was there, she got the erl changed, too--free.
sdmike2: perhaps your dook lock thang is related to body control module?... . Predicting snow flurries this evening--in April. Hoping the weather is non-preciptating so I can wash eMily. Since Sunday is my birthday, it would be a good way to spend MY day. The S.O. asked what I wanted, I'm thinking Nikon CoolPix 995....any opinions? I know several have gotten Fuji-something....

    Will V back later....

is that the shrinking weatherstrip problem---all 4 or my doors needed replacements---door lock actuator: I had 2 replaced===the solenoids go bad in them-not body control module---slow postings lately--lets get back to being numero uno!

I wonder if Beach's parents had to sign anything stating their M had/hadn't been in an accident before they traded it in. He said they never asked when they were shopping around. Don't most car dealers ask for this? Maybe it's just in certain states. I think I remember having to do this last time I traded in a car (which was quite a while ago).
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
No, I haven't gotten mine yet. I contacted Joshu Tree yesterday and they said I should have it by Monday.

Thanks for all the info. Per our MIS guy all Ohio internet went down yesterday that"s why your email bounced.

Another question for someone, I don't remember who, but I saw a picture of seat bottom showing which bolts to replace for moving seat problem. I am taking car in next week for 6m service and would like to have copy of picture and tsb# to show them so that I don't get a DUH????

my wife say there is no problem, she weighs 100# so for her maybe it doesn't move, but when I put my fat [non-permissible content removed] in the seat there is a definite shift when starting and stopping.

Also, the passenger assist handle pulled out of ceiling on one side hope the screws were just too short.

Thanks all, for the mileage info. Just making sure I wasn't the only one. Did a lot of Highway driving over the past 2 days and am avging about 20.5 on this tank. Would probably be better If I didn't have to run the heat all the time But it has snowed off and on the past 4 days in Chicago and has been under 40 for the most part. Hopefully the weather will improve along with my mileage. Don't know what my current tire pressure is but I will check it today. Again thanks for the info.

When it comes to buying cars I don't rely on anyone but myself to be sure the car is straight and clean. I wouldn't ever rely on a dealer to admit or disclose if a vehicle has been damaged.

I carefully inspect for evidence of body work or lack of it. If a car looks TOO good I really start digging. The evidence is always there no matter how carefully the work is done.

Well, I got my 300M back and man what a difference with the shifter. Before, I had to put a little muscle into it when putting it in gear. Now it takes a flick of the wrist.

I looked over my warranty papers and looked under transmission and sure enough, there's nowhere that it mentions shifter cables. I may or may not call them to see what's up with it.
  • videoman1videoman1 Member Posts: 201
    Mike,

I saw the photos of the wood trim that you added, however, they're all the small pieces (around door, seat, etc.) Did you ever put it around the radio, climate controls and gear shifter? I'm curious how those big pieces will look.

You did a great job on the ones you've already done. This must take a lot of patience.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The TSB you are needing is #23-019-01 Power Seat movement. The Dealer shouldn't need any pictures. Then again, on second thought! Not everyone has a true 5* dealer.

    Look here:

    http://www.woodtrim.com/catalog_detail.cfm?prod=3860

That's my car with the Joshua Tree Luxury Group/California Burlwood trim.

I have been very pleased with this kit and would highly recommend it.

  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
I'll try to remember to post the pics of my wood trim tonight. You have the 99 with the "fish scale" shifter right? I have the same. Joshua Tree is the only place that sells a kit with the old shifter piece--so mine is exactly what yours will look like (I even have the chrome shifter). I installed most of the console pieces and the piece around the clock and vents. It looks nice and matches well; however since I installed it I notice that when the sun is shining directly on the console you can tell the Joshua Tree pieces are slightly redder than the original.

I am trying to get a sample from dashesonline. Hopefully i wont have to by all 25 pieces, I will only use 6!
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
I do have one picture on here of the dash, but it doesn't really show the shifter piece. I can take one and post it if you want.

    http://community.webshots.com/user/brendalf

(you can actually see the difference in redness with the flash picture -- it doesn't really show under normal circumstances...just with bright light shining on it)

If you want a great digital with a zoom lense, check out the Olympus C700 Ultra Zoom. I bought one last month and it's great and does so much stuff that I'll never learn how to do it all (the extended manual that comes with the software is 200 pages). It's the world's smallest digital with 10x optical zoom. The pictures I posted above were taken in standard quality (the camera's lowest quality level), but check out the one I took of the rotors...that's using the zoom lense and the quality is amazingly good for SQ.

Hey everyone...I bought a Champagne non-php, otherwise fully loaded 99-300M back in Dec.-01.It seemed like a good buy for 16k with 29,626 miles. So far I have enjoyed driving this car and have had few problems with the exception of a leaking fwd. crankshaft seal. I did purchase an extended warranty and the seal replacement was covered. Am planning on a few mods like a chrome shift knob and more wood trim. I changed the plugs over to Bosch +4's yesterday and am planning a drive over to Biloxi (100mi) which will give me a chance to check out any performance enhancement. Anyway I enjoy following the posts here and decided to join in.
  • silverbullet4silverbullet4 Member Posts: 449
Welcome to the board. Please advise what, if any, performance/mpg improvement you perceive from the +4's.

    Thanks, Silver

I have a C-2100 which is essentially the same camera in a larger body. The 10X zoom is worth the price even if it is only 2.1 megapixels. The zoom makes up for the lack of pixels by reducing the amount of area to crop when editing. It really makes for nice action shots as well with in "motor-winding" mode. I shoot everything in HQ with a 128Mb card I get all the shots i need.

    To all-

Do you have your volume turned up? If you have "bookmarks" in your message center and new messages come in, your speakers will "honk-honk" to let you know that a new message has been posted in one of your bookmarked sites!

This JUST happened a little while ago. I thought I was hearing things! ;-)) Pretty cool feature.

not bookmarks - subscribed discussions is what fastdriver means. You need to be on your "Message Center" page and have the "beep for new messages" thing checked. It's pretty cool!

Were you having a "bad hair day" when you took the picture of the resurfaced rotors? ;)

That's funny! I guess you're looking at the reflection of the 14 year old Madagasger palm that was behind me. My hair hasn't been green for awhile :-)

I haven't tried the video mode yet. I'm still trying to find the time to figure out all the functions (or actually remember how to use them once I read about them), but I do love that zoom.
  • videoman1videoman1 Member Posts: 201
Thanks for the photos. The extra wood looks better than I thought it would. I was thinking it would be too much, but now I don't.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how difficult is it on the big pieces? I would think the smaller ones would be more manageable, but those large ones seem like they could be tough.

And yes, blonda, I have the exact same color interior, but with the Platinum exterior. I didn't realize it until (I think you) mentioned it that the platinum color was discontinued after the 2000 model. That's cool cause mine is the only one I see around my area in that color.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
The reason I don't have pictures of the big pieces is that I didn't install them yet. One of them had a blemish and a new piece should be here in a couple of days. I'll post pictures when I install it. I might go visit blonda for help. :)

Ok..for those of you that have missed me (yeah, right..) here's a picture of my project. All I need to do is install some trim and waterproof it. Wheeeee. :)

Have had my 2002 300M Special for just over a month now, and love it. But today got a call from Chrysler informing me that there was a potentially dangerous problem with some of the newer 3.5 engines that could cause the engine to seize up. I was aware of this issue from the 300M Enthusiasts Club board where I have been posting for several weeks. Chrysler gives affected owners three alternatives: A complete buy-back; replacing the engine; or replacing the exact car and providing a rental/loaner at DC expense until another car can be found/ordered from factory. I chose the last choice and called my Chrysler dealer immediately and will bring my sapphire blue baby back on Monday for a replacement. Guess I'de rather see DC do this now rather than waiting for serious engine failures and possible injuries. Remember the Ford Explorer/Firestone fiasco.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Sorry to hear about your car. At least DC is doing it the right way....replacement of the car AND a rental for the time it takes for them to get it. Good luck.

I am leasing my 2001 Inferno Red/Light Taupe non-PHP for 4 years. I paid up front for extra miles based on my previous driving habits ('97 Cirrus). So I'm allowed 19,000 miles per year, or 76,000 when my lease expires. The problem is, I'm less than ten months into the lease and I've already done 18,500 miles. Aside from my daily commute (25 miles each way), I've done one trip from my home in Rhode Island to the inlaws in North Carolina (about 1,800 miles). The rest is just local bombing around R.I. and Connecticut.

My wife has a '99 Grand Prix that's a great car, and she has plenty of miles to spare on her lease. But whenever we take a trip, I just gotta drive the M. Doctor, I need help!
