I did see that, makes me even more concerned that DC might take this approach, if it indeed had the problem, wouldn't there tend to be long term implications for this motor even if it doesn't fail now? I probably won't keep it more than 5 years 100k anyway though. Regardless, I took your advice around noon today and "tested" the speedo needle. Results: it apprently has full freedom of movement through the range marked by the 100 on the dial. :-)
Videoman--Haven't seen the two tone seats, well, actually, I haven't even seen a Pro-Am edition yet, and Otto said he hadn't even seen one last time it was mentioned, but I saw the graphite paint on the Chrysler web site picture of the Pro-AM edition and really liked it. Its really just a little darker than my platinum 99. I'd like to see one, course we haven't even seen a Special in E-town, KY.
Jab02lhs--Don't know if I have all that much money, but the desire to spend it has definitely hit as my age advanced. Spending the kids inheritance.
Doc and Roger-- I didn't think Club records could generate a card for someone this old. Will it be on stone tablets? My daughter sent me a card that said they decided not to put all the candles on a cake and light it, but would instead just light the grass on the front lawn on fire instead!! Geez...
RussKlass--Have found a new place to make a sign for the upcoming Woodward/Brampton event. They did my window graphics and I think they can do a great sign, larger than last years with the Club logo and everything. Give me your thoughts at my e-mail address on the text. I gave them some preliminary text, and asked them to work it up and give me a call.
Happy Belated Birthday to you too! Hope things are settling down for you a little in NY. Still never found anything of my cousin's husband from Tower Two.
will now address you from his pulpit.... (organ music fades up....tastefully...) It has come to my attention that, Yayus, or Club website has become rife with the demon 'broken link', averitable instrument of the devil.... our congregation hath woefully neglected to send the Doctor new, improved, 20% more oat bran links to your member page. The Right reverend asks you to reach deep within your pc, summon up the righteous link to your membership link (say hallelujah....) and send it, my brothers a sisters, sne it FLYING on the angelic wings of the internet so that OUR site may be cleansed, no... PURIFIED so that once again we may as a Club bask in the light of righteous and correct linkdom come.
It has also come to my attention that many of our brethren and sistern have fallen by the wayside, and strayed from the path od 300mDom. I ask you, my brothers ans sisters, how can we bring you back to the fold?......what can we do to make our site more attractive, appealing, interesting (fill in the adjective of your choice here...)?
I didn't see the seats in person. I only saw the photo at the Chrysler website. There's a auto seat re-upholster company down the road from me. Just for giggles, I may stop in and see what it would cost to change mine to the two tones.
Those seats would sure help brighten up the interior, I went with the light taupe in my steel blue LHS just because the other interiors were just too dark. This would make a nice mix of light accents with dark on wear areas would be great in 300 HEMI-C.
Regarding prior accidents & sales/trade-ins, I had to sign a notarized document when I traded in my 95 Intrepid that my history of the car was correct (inc. total mileage & accident history-none in my case). That constitutes prior knowledge of same by the dealership if a prospective customer inquires about that vehicle & is given "incorrect information". After your tale, I have gained a bit of respect for my Chrysler dealership who took my Intrepid. Regarding the Avalanche- if you think that it has a ride as quiet & smooth ride as a well-tuned 300M...........????????? (and yes, I have been in an Avalanche, and yes it is a nice vehicle for what it is) Regarding the Pro-Am 2-tone seats, I am sure good custom auto upholstery shops could do that--for a price!!! Those seats look great, but I am not about to rip out my perfectly good Sandstone leather to try that mod.
As I posted earlier, my Special was one of those recalled by Chrysler due to possible engine problems. My choice was to get a new Special just like the one I turned in. Took it in today and got a 01 Concorde loaner until the factory builds me a new sapphire blue Special. Dealer could not find one in the area so may take a while although he said he would try to expedite the delivery. Can't wait!
If you go to http://www.chrysler.com and click on "HELP" then "VEHICLE MANUALS" you can order a brand new manual from Chrysler for $10.oo plus shipping.
After two and a half years, something broke on my M. Right side passenger window wouldn't go up from the driver's side. Went up when I reached over. So I guess I get to join the poor quality club, huh?
Put the Goodyears and chromes back on. The Blizzaks will make you appreciate the Goodyears. Of course, the pm news says snow later this week. Guess I'll get by.
Sounds like just a switch or a connection though. If it was the motor the window wouldn't work from either side. Probably all of the freezing and thawing.
It was 75 and sunny today here at the old homestead, perfect weather for giving Big Red a long overdue bath. Now that she's clean on the outside I need to get to one of those 50 cent vacuums and get the cheddar cheese goldfish and pretzel guts out of the leather seams. Darned kids. Next time I do a house project I rent a pickup.
Yeah, that's what I figure. Fingers crossed, I'll take it to Chrysler. Wierd though, I could count on my fingers the times that window has been opened. I usually have either the heat or the A/C on, not much in between. Hole in the roof open when I fall off the Marlboro Man wagon.
45 and sunny here today. Kid came in from a wrestling tourney in Reno at 1:05 and wife left for SD at 1:50, so I took the pm off. Boat called - if you think a wife and kids are demanding, try a boat. She called from SEA to tell me she saw a Special at SeaTac. Had the audacity to tell me it looked better than mine. She'll be in your part of the world for a week watching oldest kid play ball and paying his school bills. When I got out of high-school, I couldn't wait to get away from my parents, why do today's kids love home and hearth so much? Could it be money?
I think they're smarter than we were. Heck, why make growing up tougher than it needs to be? They can always get 3 square meals and mom and dad's house. If your wife or son needs anything while they're down here don't hesitate to give me a shout. I check my email frequently, so just drop me a note at mritchi1@san.rr.com if they have any trouble.
Hey, at least your wife knows what an M looks like! Today I told my wife that I needed to clean my car, and she said....*GASP*..."it's just a car". Ack! I should have melted down her set of keys for that! Problem is, as soon as I got it clean she was off in it!
dont go meltin down your wife's keys or you may be spending some time in your new 2nd home in the backyard. Maybe you better put some AC in there along with a tv, dvd player, refrigerator, computer and telephone just in case the wife gets upset with your spending too much time washing & waxing the M and exiles you to that new abode. ;-)
Sorry I missed your message. As soon as I got the info on the wiper light, we rolled out to SoCal. As it turned out, my wife wanted to go to Santa Monica & also Melrose instead, so we stayed in Inglewood for a change of pace. The high point of the trip for me actually was driving the 300M, so after leaving Melrose I took the scenic route home via Malibu - Ventura - Pearblossom. Gotta get some sleep; if I wake up soon enough I'll have a few hours to kill w/the rental M. BTW, anyone tell me if there are memory problems w/the driver's seat? On the last leg of the trip several times the seat would move back to let me out of the car, but I would have to reset everything to my liking when I started the car (most of the trip the car remembered all of my settings). I don't remember touching anything that would erase what I did.
Hopefully the car just had "rentalitis", which results from the general abuse of rental cars. There was one poster in here a while back whose seats would cram him into the steering wheel instead of going to the prescribed position, but that's the only incident that I've heard of (before yours) of problems with the memory seats. If they gave you two keys, were you using the same one each time? If not, that might explain it.
Refresh my memory. Do you own an M or are you considering one? If you own one, where is it that you need a rental?
What was the URL of the place where you got your caliper paint again? I just put air in my tires and noticed how ugly mine are. Big Red deserves better.
ok...I've determined from your previous description that it's the G2 system. I've found it for $39.95 at streatbeat.com and stylinconcepts.com. Where did you get yours? I seem to remember that you got it quickly.
Well, I ordered the caliper paint from streetbeat.com (keeping fingers crossed after a recent poor experience with an on-line company). Their shipping was a couple dollars cheaper than stylinconcepts. Just FYI all, stylinconcepts appears to be a pretty good site for stuff. Lots of stuff and good prices. I had never heard of it before. I also ordered some Bumper & Trim Black from Urethane Supply Company. I'll let you guys know how it does on the trim on my wife's grand caravan, with some before/after pictures. Zaino tire stuff works well but doesn't last. Interesting, Urethane Supply sells the stuff for $14, and the other places I found it want over $20.
Time to go send my resume to some headhunter firms and start the search in earnest. Nothing like paying a $4,000 mastercard bill to make you start looking for a job!
Those master switch assemblies have gone through more revisions than Carter has liver pills. I had to get a replacement for my 98 Intrepid because the auto down quit working. I went to the dealer with the number off the old switch and the parts guy spent about 10 minutes following the revision trail on it to get to the current number.
With that many revisions, my guess is they've had LOTS of problems with them.
Are you going to RB Inn? I have a bunch of JC Card discount passes that expire next week (I think you can use them without being with a JC Card Member)-- if that's where you're going and you want to come by here first I can give you some.
Also, we have an opening here for a Product Marketing Manager, but they haven't posted a job description yet. It's obviously very heavy on semiconductor knowledge, but we have hired people without that background before. If you want me to get your resume in the door let me know.
Alas, it finally happened. Passed 36,000 miles. No more warranty. Its a scary thing, but have had absolutely no problems. Its a 2000 with eveything but PHP. Got home and noticed chrome center cap on right front wheel had rusted off. $25.00 with club discount(#%$^&%$). Thats the 3rd one on that same wheel. Think the dealer stabbed me on the $ ? Anyone else losing caps? What did they charge you? Rick
Whats the deal with Chrysler charging $$$ for user manuals? My wife drives an Explorer, and although it came with a manual, I can also download one FOR FREE in pdf format from Ford's web site. I am fine with paying for a hard copy, but there should also be a an option for us to download a pdf copy! Anybody else agrees with me?
I am about to get my rotors resurfaced this Sat. Found a local shop that will do it for $20 each. Some other guy near my office wanted to charge me $140 for all 4 lol. Both of them tried to talk me into getting new pads at the same time. I have about 45% left on fronts and a little more on rear pads. I am not sure if I need to replace them. But I also want the best for my M. I said I will think about it, but will probaby just do the rotors and nor replace the pads. Good idea/bad? Also is there a specific brand that is known to be good on our Ms? any brand to avoid? what should be a price range for decent pads? I dont want any cheapo parts on my car. thanks
We're actually playing at Carmel Mountain Ranch. When do your coupons expire and what kind of discount do they give. I've been playing weekly so if it's a nice discount it might be worth trying the RB Inn.
Thanks for the lead on the Marketing Manager job. I'll get you my resume in the next couple of days. Any idea what the pay range is? Please e-mail me at mritchi1@san.rr.com when you get a chance. Thanks!
I put them on myself, hell they would have charged $40. labor.LOL I shot 3M 5Way Penetrating oil/lube in the hole and on the back of the cap due to all the rust in there. It must get a lot of dampness inside. Rick
have you tried http://www.oem-car-parts.com for those center caps? I was talking to the DC dealer (a Dodge dealer in Texas) that handles all of the DC orders for that site and they were amazed how much some dealers charge for little stuff....especially out here in California! Might want to check that site, and it's sister site http://www.chrysler-parts.com next time you need something.
Just checked. oem-car-parts has 300M wheel caps ranging from under $10 to about $22 depending on which one you need. You have a model number off yours? They have six of them listed, although I have no idea why there would be six different ones.
yep, I agree with you on the user manual. No reason why this shouldn't be available on-line for everyone. However, f they wanted to limit access they could require you to enter your VIN for access (just an idea).
Anybody that is interested, go to www.canadiandriver.com, as they have an article on the Special. It's worth reading if you are in the market for an M. I think I will stick with my 01 M with PHP.
Thanks for the link. I agree with you. I'll stick with my Inferno Red '01 with PHG. My favorite line was right on the teaser page....the 300M is still "about 45 horsepower short of being truly great."
Well, why would they need to limit access? what good is a Taurus manual to me if I dont own one. Plus, you can get vins from ads all other the internet. Ford is providing their manuals, why cant Chrysler? Most software companies let you donwload their manuals from the web. Its pretty useful if you are an advanced user and want to know if the product supports some advanced features you need before you buy. Cars should be the same I think. I agree that they should charge for a service manual, because its more of a how-to book for limited audience.
You should go back to DC and get OEM pads. Other pads can be too hard which transfers too much heat to the rotor, warping it. Warp em twice and you get to buy new ones. Also, aftermarket pads for non PHP M's dont come with the anti-rattle clips, and you either reuse the old ones (not good) or go to DC to get new ones ($5 set)
If you can't go OEM, go ceramic as they are fairly nice to rotors.
By all means, replace the pads with the rotors so that the fresh surfaces can mate to each other. Reusing old pads can lead to brake noise and scoring of the rotors you just paid to resurface.
to make it a really great car worthy of its name--and an 8 cylinder would be very nice teamed up with a 5 speed Mercedes transmission to handle the extra hp--I miss the power of my Lincoln MarkVIII althought the M is really no slouch and does its part in accelerating from 55 to 80 on the Hwy---the six has the bonus of capability of using regular gas during this gas crisis---maybe the 300N will prove worthy of its name!
I have lost 2 rubber thingys in the wheel well area--they just fell out unless they were stolen--anyone else having this problem--I will have to cement on the next one
hey--I wonder if that stuff would work on the tires as well--maybe it would last longer than those sprays or zaino stuff---anyone try this yet--any guinea pigs want to give it a try
