I had the same problem and found that Z5 and Z6 got mine back to normal. I had to scrub pretty good with the Z5 though...because it's got a very, very, VERY mild abrasive to it. My guess is that a good leveler (like a swirl mark remover) might be the best solution. I saw today that Kragan has orbital polishers on sale for $15. I might get one and try it out.
The 99/00's have the flat black trim. I think that is why the Zaino didn't do anything at all. Side mirrors are plastic so don't have to worry about the staining on those thankfully.
>...Deep Slate, Chrysler 300 Front... something. Has VIN, ECN ...Is this maybe the engine or transaxle? <
Engine and tx are vin stamped during assembly, and color wouldn't be a factor. I'm guessing it's a track sheet for the front fascia that wasn't pulled off on the line.
I was just at the local Kragen and spent more than I expected. They have the Maquire's swirl remover on sale for $6.99, and I also got a 100% cotton wash mit and some 100% cotton buffing towels. Add that to the acrylic paint and fine brushes for my upcoming valve cover paint job and you have a bag of car stuff! My wife just won't understand so I have to hide it. LOL
What you have is the tracking sticker that the fascia manufacture puts on each fascia when they make it. The date on the sticker is the time they make it , remember it is done at another plant about 1/2 an hour drive from our plant. There is a 6-8 hour gap from the time your fascia is built and the time it is shipped and put on your car. Also the time on the sticker on your door is the time and date the car was certified. So if your car needed a repair and had to sit a day before it was done , this would not match the time and date your car actually was on the line. The fascia sticker is a more accurate reflection on when your car was actually on the line. I don't have an 1998 calendar but what day of the week was Sept 10 /98?
My techs took me to lunch today and told me where to drive... next thing I know I'm at the DMV and they're pulling the plates off my M! They ordered me custom plates that say "FAST 300". I had no idea. Quite a surprise!!!
My trusty Palm Pilot tells me it was a Thursday. Although it was close to lunch time -- seems they did a good job as I've had no major problems and to rattles, squeaks or creaks in 44k miles.
SDMike - I think Fastdriver's car was built after that company picnic! :-)
That's a pretty cool suprise. Amazing that plate was still available being all the 300's around (old Chryslers and Lexus, etc.).
That reminds me, yesterday in the parking lot at the movie theater there was this wild looking Viper painted yellow and blue driving around, the license plate said YLWRACR. It was funny as his exhaust was rumbling so loudly he was setting off car alarms left and right everywhere he went.
I was interested in using that stuff on the rubber trim on either side of my windshield as it has whitened. Have you tried it yet?
Don't know if I'd put that stuff on my window bezels. Seems like it would flake or not look right (anyone tried it there yet?)....plus I have gotten mine back to normal again for the time being anyway. I really think it's acidic rain that causes the staining.
Mike, that acrylic paint is art supply paint like the stuff that comes in tiny glass jars with a metal screw top? I did not think stuff like that was temperature resistant. Wouldn't engine block paint work better? Spray some in a bowl, use a brush perhaps?
I haven't even opened the bottle. I bought it for my wife's van, but when I went to apply it I realized that her bumper and trim isn't exactly black. It's a kind of blue color. So for now it's sitting unopened in my garage. You're welcomed to it if you want to try it. I've read good reviews of the stuff, including those from glennbp.
I ended up buying some automotive touch-up paint. Uxca used it and it seemed to hold up. YOu think that's ok? I was going to use my caliper paint leftovers but I couldn't get the damned cap off the activator!
They said we were going to lunch; not being familiar with that part of Chula Vista, I had no idea what was going on until we pulled into the DMV parking lot! They do look sorta nice; just hope the cops think so too! LOL
I looked at that combination when I decided on BIGREDM. I figured I wasn't fast enough to have that plate! lol. By the way, I have your G27 in my car. I drove by your neighborhood today but forgot to stop. Doh!
I don't know if it's specifically a heat resistant paint or not, but if it works.... Obviously the calipar paint is probably super heat resistant. If I do mine, I will probably soul search about using a silver type engine paint (heat resistant) vs the actual Platinum color that matches the car. The only way I know to get a match is to use touch-up paint from the dealer, which is probably the only thing that will look good.
You think clear coat spray is necessary once painted?
SDMike--Many thanks for the effort to put the photos up. The pics of the pics came out pretty good. The shifter was one of the chrome ones that I got via info from Beach [see, that boy has some good qualities...] and I decided to use the same Aurora material that is on the stripes and cover the chrome. The Auto Trim Design tech cleaned the chrome real good, then worked a small piece of the stuff on very carefully so it would not wrinkle and then used a narrow styrofoam like plastic piece to wedge the edges into the groove around the chrome. It was amazing to watch how smooth and quick he did it. He said it should stand up to perspiration, etc., from the hands, but to avoid sharp edged rings. Guess the wife can't drive it now...ha,ha. So far it is doing good. If anyone needs the medallion part number for the flat wheel discs just ask and I will find it and post it.
Entered my 99M in a Memorial Day car show in our little town, run by some car club. Are these things all "fixed?" Anyway, there were about 30 cars in all. Since its KY where the Corvette is made, there were 10 corvettes and the usual assortment of pony cars, a 442, and a few of the old restored trucks and model T whatevers. Predominant color by far--like 25 of the cars was red. Some old Model whatever that was trucked in won Best of Show. I actually thought the 442 was really nice, and someone had a Stingray, maybe 67? that was alsolutely "cherry," but I don't think that one even got the "Best Vette" award. I settled for the best MOPAR award, well...acutally, I had the only MOPAR in the whole fleet, so I know it had to be the Best. My wife thinks I have lost it staying there for 4 hours and fawning over cars. Oh, well...
Surgery countdown has started....Friday morning @10:00am. I'm absolutely FREAKED about this. Though it will be my fifth surgery in seven years, it doesn't get any easier. My schweetie will be riding in with me (a moderately claustrophobic, this should be interesting in the NYC subway...). To ajpiii: the package is in the mail!
Like most Jerseyites, she thinks NYers drive live maniacs. Of course, in all fairness, Most NYers think JERSEYITES drive like maniacs. NY thinks that New Jersey is just another borough of Noo Yawk, knowhadAhmtawking about? In anycase, I don't want her driving eMily on the pothole collection they call 'streets' downtown. They're (the Department of ripping up roads and repaving them) in the process of 're-surfacing' a lot of the downtown streets, anyway. Parking?....You can barely get a sheet of paper between any two cars in what passes for the Hospital parking lot.
Videoman: actually, had surgery on both knees a while back--unrelated to a Workmans Comp injury that I suffered in 1 9 9 5 ! ! !. Yup, they can rebuild me-part by part....
Just out of curiousity, does anyone know what the largest 18" tire is that will fit on the M without any mods. I thought I remembered a while back someone putting 265/35x18. Is this possible?
Hey Dr--If they are going to use a general anesthesia...er...put you to sleep for a while, make sure they mark the correct knee before they put you under. I know of 2 cases where they cut on the wrong one. One patient--honest--had it written on her leg in magic marker "Not this knee," and they did it anyway. Hope all goes well.
when i ordered mine here in GA i put in for "raceme" we can only have 6 letters so we have to be creative, well of course i didn't get my first second or third choice. i thought the state just didn't want me to be picking races with other drivers, but the other day i saw the plate "raceme" on a black expedition, she was from my county too, what are the odds?
drpixel- Wishing you good luck on your surgery. Hopefully you'll have good looking nurses when they come to change your oil or whatever
mikeyjohn-Sorry you got pee'd off at the answer to your plate post. Unfortunatley I guess your post and the respnse were deleted by Pat before we got a chance to read them. I guess this board is being censored to protect our fragile minds.
Valve covers. As I said in a previous post I used touch up paint to do the valve covers. As they are a composite plastic of some sort I don't think heat will be a problem. It's not like your painting part of the engine block subjected to high heat.
No host in the Town Hall randomly deletes messages, nor feels a need to protect fragile minds, nor any of the other things I've been accused of here lately.

Im a happy camper today... Ive been putting off installing the spring spacer kit for the H&R Springs because I really wasnt convinced that raising the engine 1/4" would do it... well I was wrong, I went from having very noticable vibrations during accelerations (which seemed to get worse with time) to absolutely NONE !! These things Kick Butt !!!
I used regular touch-up paint on my letters and everything's been fine so far. Yes, there is heat up there on top of the engine, of course, but it's the #$%^& North Pole compared to places like the exhaust manifolds and brakes!
When I lived in Bergen County (that's North NJ for you folks on the left coast!) just across 'da riva' from Noo Yawk I used to LOVE to drive in Manhatten. I was very aggressive and took on all the cabbies with no problems....It's the most logically laid out city in the world (at least north of 14th street.) As for parking, I used to only park in parking garages (those "Kinney" places with the green signs....they still around, Doc?) until my bright red 70 Mustang Mach I was stolen right out of one of the ATTENDED parking garages... Good thing I knew how to catch a bus home at the P.A...... Now I'm in South Jersey and life's a beach :-) Doc, you'll be fine. After all you survived 9/11 man....We will all be cheering for your speedy recovery....
Ok on the touchup paint. I know it does get hot, but not that hot in comparison. I just wanted to put the thought out and canvas the troops for the reaction. I will get some Platinum touchup paint and do my letters soon. Perhaps this weekend.
Does the added weight seem to effect the trunk in any way? Do you think the added weight might cause premature failure to the trunk lid props? The reason I ask is I had a 1986 Plymouth Turismo and I put one of those plastic louvers on the hatchback...It looked cool but the added weight definitely caused the prop (OK, I think there was only one) to fail.
When you said your schweetie was riding with you, I first thought it was you 300M, duhhh. Just get a skillfull surgen, not one of the 2* ones. Have a speedy recovery.
Like guesswho said it is easer to close, but harder to lift up. A lot depends on the weight of the wing. I have noticed when I press the trunk release it is hard to tell if it unlocked, but I like it. So far no strut problems.
I went over some speed bumps to test out the car, and started hearing a funny sound when turning the wheel. It was worse when turning to the left. Well I go out the flash light and started checking first the joint, boots, fluid level, nothing. Then I saw the bottom corner of my air box, it was dented, and I could see where the tie rods were hitting the air box. So I am going to have to make some changes to the bottom of the air box to allow a little more room. It was in my plans since, like Ajpiii I have to add the spacers which will raise the engine and constrict the Air Scoop Duct so I had planned to make changes to it. So I guess my car will be under the knife to speak too, this weekend.

Good luck with your surgery. I've been through 3 of them myself and even though you know everything will be fine, it's still scary.
My thoughts and prayers will be with you on Friday.
