Scotian, I think they look OK, plus the extra safty-fudge factor help let other drivers know what you are planning to do. If you come across some of the road hogs, just don't use them.
With the 01 tail lights at times it looks like you have as many as 9 lamps going at once. I love winky blinkies. I wish I knew where the police go their strobes. I would like to connect them to the rear tail lights for braking.

Beach15, I have done a lot of sound deadening in my 99, which was worse then your 2000. Check out the www.300mclub.net site and check out my site for ideas. I have not really checked out the 2000 model so see what they did to decrease the noise levels (road noise).
In the dash area I did do some playing around and did locate on potential area on the passanger side. By removing the side dash cover (it pops off just like the fuse cover on the drivers side), where the top and bottom dash meet together, it can cause some noise. Loosen the screws and insert some tissue or cloth scraps to get rid of it. By pressing on the dash in different areas while driving (your passanger can do this) you should be able to tell where the noise is comming from. The air filter ($40) and the exhaust changes are the ones I really recommend. The rest are a matter of taste.

I was at Target yesterday and picked up two cases of 10-30 Cheveron motor oil for 22 cents a quart, My oil changes are getting cheaper and cheaper to do. They had washer fluid for 14 cents a gallon. I use that for cleaning the windows.

Beach- Well I know what your feeling. Many of us at the plant drive LH cars, and they have problems also. A/C and trans problems seem to be two of the most common. But a car is only as good as the sum of its parts . We the line workers do try our best to build quality cars using the parts we are given but this business is like any other .You have employees who care and you have some who don't. You see this all the way from top management to the guy on the line. You also must realize when a line worker sees a problem and tells his boss ,99% of the time it gets acted upon .But if a line supervisor does nothing with the information what can we do ? . You must also realize that you can not just change an assembly process when you feel like it , it must go to engineering for approval and this takes time. This is why some changes take longer that others. So a line workers has only 50 % input to determine whether a car will be a lemon or reliable , if Detroit has not done it's 50 % then nothing the line worker does makes a difference. You mention that because things are slow at the factory we should have more time to build better cars ,this is wrong .Out line speed is roughly 72 cars an hour ,or one car every 48 seconds. Regardless if we sell cars or not we build 72 cars an hour. Line speed does NOT change. We work 3 shifts pumping out roughly 1400 cars a day. When cars orders are down we get laid-off . Hopefully when the line is stopped Detroit is working on ways to improve our product. Quality sells cars and selling cars gives us a paycheque. All I can tell you is keep taking it back to your dealer. This is how Detroit finds out problems ,from warranty work. I know it is an inconvenience but its the only way to fix your problems.
As for the 02 1/2 special, it looks very similar to the one shown a while back . As for the wheels being ugly I must disagree with you they look great. They are 18 inch and similar to what was on the show car , only now the spokes are slightly twisted. Hopefully some added H.P is also in the works but I have no info on that. As for a build date all I know is that it is to be a 02 1/2 model , and thats all I can tell you.

    300Michael- 5 speed ?? , from what I saw . Same trans .

sdmike- Greeeeeaaaaat looking M! So far I still only use some type of liquid wax in a bottle on my deep slate but it never really gets that terrific shine. I'll have to try some Zaino whenever I can.

Decided this weekend to Zaino my Y2k silver 330m. The weather was great for a change in the Northeast. Every thing was going well until I took a break and went to the local supermarket. When I got back, I decided to put second layer of Zaino Z2 and while going around car discovered some JERK open his door against my rear quarter..... Left a good size dent in two places. Made me sick the rest of the day. I am calling my 5* dealer this morning to see about getting repaired. I hope they are able to match color k. Well just wanted to share my grief with fellow 3M'ers.

sk1001 - You should try Dent Wizard or another paintless dent removal service. Cost is roughly $90 per panel and it takes about 30 minutes for the repair.

    300M Apparel

The Chrysler 300M Enthusiasts Club is looking into Club logo shirts (hopefully both polo and T style). We also hope to do some "event T-shirts" for the "M Monterey Rendezvous" in Monterey CA in August

I've seen the 300M logo shirts on EBay too. I remember someone saying there used to be a Chrysler store in the Mall of America in MN that carried Chrysler logo apparel, and I'm speculating these may be from a buyout of their stock. Why don't I ever stumble onto deals like this??

    To ski1001...
Joe, Check your local phone book for "Dent Wizard" or "Dentworks."
These folks do paintless dent removal by pushing out the dent from the inside.
Parking lot dings are their specialty, and you can probably get the repair done for $100 in about an hour.
    Good luck!
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
Door dents -- I've had one removed with paintless dent repair. Probably leaves less of a noticeable residual mark than repainting, and costs much less.

    People suck.

ed12- I also agree with you. My 300M will be paid off in the summer, & I might dump it for a BMW. I don't really want the naV system, I don't see a need for it, but for a 250hp car, the 300M does not drive like one, this combined with the size of the car, & resale value, makes me want to get another car. My 300M is fine, performs good, is nice and all, but I just want something different. We will see.

Thanks. I hear the Zaino shines even better on dark colored cars like yours. I have a friend with a dark blue Camaro SS that's going to try it. I'm dying to see how it turns out in that color.

Sdmike, I use non synthetic in my M. I change the oil and filter every three months, sometime every month if I get a good offer. I figure if 22 cent oil is about as good as two and a half dollar oil, why not go the less expensive route. I do make sure I use only the major brands. To me more oil changes is better then less using synthetic, and far cheaper. It now costs me about $2 to do a oil and filter change. (yes I only use good filters too, they are just as important)

    Door Dings

I am continually amazed by the lack of consideration that people show for other people's possessions...especially cars. How hard is it to keep your car door from slamming into the car next to you? It's not, people. If I catch someone denting Big Red they're going to get a matching dent in their forehead. I work in building that shares a parking lot with a large asian food market. The parking lot is like a demolition derby. I've seen BMWs, Mercedes and other fine cars creamed, side-swiped, dinged and crunched more than I want to admit. Each time it's carelessness. I park in the far corner with two of my wheels in the dirt to stay as far away as possible. Friday I found a f****** shopping cart sitting against the side of my car! People DO suck sometimes.

Ok...that was a nice Dennis Miller rant, wasn't it? Sk1001...we feel your pain. Good luck.

Ottoworker, it is beginning to look like I will be keeping my M, if they do not change the tranny and the special do to be released around March. I may just add a better tranny cooler to mine, and I will pretty much have the Special.

    300Michael

All valid points, and I agree. My problem is that I've reached the point in my life that simple things like oil changes are too much of an inconvenience to me to justify the cost savings. Maybe I'm just getting old (I know..40 isn't old), or maybe I just make enough money that I'm willing to spend the $20 to have someone do it. Who knows. Gone are the days of me hanging an engine in the maple tree to replace a worn clutch plate. :)

Well someone bought the chrome shift knob for $100 off ebay. Any one we know???
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Sdmike, I just enjoy tinkering with the car and have it down to where it takes me a few minuets to do. I also check out the boots and other things to make sure everything is OK while the oil is draining, or I water the yard. Plus I get the satisfaction of knowing it was done right. I do notice that the shops tend to over fill the fluids a lot, and I have to drain some out anyway. But to each it's it own. Enjoy your 300 and keeping it looking great.

Well just came back from Dent Wizard and due to a couple of deep crease's, they said they couldn't do the job right. Oh well, going to stop by 5* and get estimate for job. From now on, will park at the end of parking lots. I would like to get the clown and ding his head... just ranting,,,,

    (Chrome Shifter)

I bought the shifter on Ebay...

Wanted one forever, and kept meaning to get to it... Then it got discontinued...

Didnt want to deal with trying to win the auction, so I forked over the $100.... Its already in the mail :)

It hurt to pay so much for so little, but oh well...

    On another note...

For those of you considering the Mopar Bra, Beware... Ive had mine on this winter and just took it off to find that it gave me tons of little scratch mark all around the perimeter of the bra... Looks like they'll buff out though...

Anyone want to buy my bra ? Actually that didnt sound right, but you know what I mean...

I ordered my front collector muffler for the dual exhaust setup today! I found someone online that carries the Dynomax 14258 Stainless, it was $123 including shipping to MN. If anyone cares to look, Here's the site So now I have the tips and the front muffler, waiting for some input to what people think of the different rear muffler (Super turbo VS. Rhino) If the turbo has no resonance problems, I found it online for $54. I guess the rear part of the exhaust won't be stainless. =( Ohh well, I'll live with the pain.
On another note, I joined the 300 club last night! So I beat the deadline and now I'm on the "in" Well, enough ranting, gotta go order some Zanio and as soon as Minnesota decides it will stop the snow and let spring happen....... =\

    Hatax - Exhaust

That's the same place I got my Magnaflow and my Borla tips. Nice folks to deal with. Which tips did you decide on? It's cool having so many variations of this one basic exhaust system. There may be stainless steel versions of the mandrel bent elbows available if you check with JC Whitney customer service. The aluminized version is JC Whitney Part No. 81AS2968Y and are/were $11.49 each. These make the job much easier and cleaner if you're going with the left and right side pipes. No on site pipe bending required.
  • hataxhatax Member Posts: 56
Yup, I saw how nice the pre-bent pipes look on your install, I'll be ordering those, hell for $23, how can you argue... I ordered headman hedders ( 3rd one down PN# 17105) tips, they look nice and the red will match my Dark Garnett Red color. And they have resonators in them so it should quiet it out a little more no matter what muffler I choose, I want more tone out of it, I just don't want too much noise. =)

Have you seen the movie "GUNG HO"? It's a HOOT. If they are as accurate in your line of work as thay are in mine, not much is believable. It sure is funny though! "PUSHING TIN" is so-so in the accuracy department, but it is funny.

    Bras and Mufflers</>

I've owned a lot of bras (uh, for cars) and I have found that if you put a good coat of wax on, make sure the bra fits snuggly and doesn't move, and make sure there is no grit on the underside when removing/installing them they rarely cause problems. However, loose fitting bras are nothing but trouble. This hood cover fits very snuggly on my car.

    Hatax -
I'm going with the magnaflow 12258 as the front collector, and the Dynomax 17739 in the rear. The magnaflow doesn't "muffle" much, it's mostly a good collector that doesn't resonate/vibrate as much as others. The Rhino is a pretty wide open muffler on the back, and I chose to go with a little more muffling by installing the Dynomax on the rear. You might not have a noise problem because you're installing the tips with resonators (love the color, by the way) but my muffler guy suggested that I do the muffling up front and leave the tips open. He said that resonated tips restrict the flow more than a better muffler, and that the resonated tips cause a bit more of a "hissing" sound in the exhaust. If my exhaust is too loud for my liking, he's going to drop in a small canister muffler in-line to tone it down a little more.

I loved the movie Gung Ho...especially the scene at the end when the "head honcho" is inspecting the last batch of cars. Finding the guy under the hood instead of an engine, and Michael Keaton polishing the missing windshield are priceless moments. :)
  • hataxhatax Member Posts: 56
    SDmike2 -
I'm torn between the Dynomax and the Rhino mufflers, the rhino may be more open, and I have resonator tips, so it should be okay, but on the other hand if the dynomax does more for the 2000 RPM resonance, then I'd be inclined to go that way. Sigh, decisions decisions, either way I still have to wait for it all to get here and I need to order two 90 degree pipes from JC Whitney.

And today I called up the dealership and ordered a hood cover. =) Only $49!

Okay, enough of car, the house has been getting neglected now. =)

Has anyone had any problems with blinking dash lights? Yesterday, in the rain, my dash lights started blinking in an erratic manner. It appeared they were trying to go bright like they would when the headlamps are off, and then go dim as they would with ther headlamps on. It did this for a few minutes and then quit.

    Door dings...

I agree with all of you regarding people who do not respect property. There are a lot of derelict vehicles out there. When I go to the store, etc., I make it a point to park at least 10 spots further away from the store than the furthest vehicle already parked. Also, if I have a choice between parking in a regular parking spot (are they getting smaller, or is it just me?)and the street, I'll park on the street.

My biggest gripe is coming out of the store to find nine empty parking spots and a SUV with 5 ft. doors parked one and a half feet away from me, when I've made the effort to isolate my car! There are some people that just don't care about anyone else or their property -- that's why you find used diapers and discarded McDonald's trash in the parking lot.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong...(with apologies to Dennis Miller!).

Hey look at this picture. It looks like a ruby 300M; very nice considering that it is only available on the 2001 Sebring coupe. It must just be something with the lighting or the camera. Not as bright as inferno red yet not as dark as dark garnet red. Here it is:

    It's the second album/picture shown.

I believe that is the inferno red at sunset or sunrise. Like many of the Chrysler paint colors, they change at different times of the day. My inferno red becomes much deeper and richer looking at sunset...I've noticed my wife's new cinnamon glaze (light brown) almost looks mauve at sunset.

    jgoodson....

Iv'e noticed what your post has described. During a rain storm with dark scattered clouds, its right at the cut-off point if you have your light switch on AUTO. The headlights are coming on/off as the outside light varies from the cloud cover. Unless of course your light switch is in the off mode :)

    DRB III...

I can get anyone a DRB III who is willing to pay for one. It is available in three different packages, (pep, economy, complete, and plus). I won't get into the details unless someone is serious, but with a starting cost of $2,900 plus accessories I don't think anyone will want one for their personal use. We do however accept MC, and Visa, or parts billing w/ your dealer code :). We usually don't make this information available to the public, as you will not find any information on the DRB III at our web site, http://www.pse.daimlerchrysler.com

Anyone who thought they really needed a DRB should save your money and leave the diagnostic to your local dealer.

    "Little Red" shakedown cruise

I finally have my 01 300M back on the road after almost full recovery from the accident I detailed to the group about 6 weeks ago.

With all deference to sdmike, I call my M "little red" primarily because I traded in my flame red 98 Dodge Ram Pickup with matching topper, which went by the name Big Red.

I left Melbourne, FL last Friday and drove to Savannah, GA for the weekend with my girlfriend. My M performed flawlessly. The trip up included one section where I-95 crawled to a stop and it took about 1 hour to go 3 miles. This was an excellent test of the cooling system, which included a new radiator, fan, fan motor and a few hoses as a result of the accident. The temp gauge never moved, which I was pleased to see as I spent over an hour in 90+ degrees weather at a crawl. AC also functioned well.

When I was moving, the car ran very smoothly, quietly and straight.

On the way back I made the trip home in just around 4 hours (336 miles) so you can see I was moving along at a respectable clip. I never left the fastlane. Car performed flawlesly.

Outside of needing to have the hood repainted again due to my encounter with a brief hailstorm two weeks ago, it appears the worst is over.

I am having the hood repainted next Monday (same insurance claim is paying for this as well since paint was not cured and there was no damage to any other surface on the vehicle). My only complaint is I will have to wait three months before I can apply the Zaino.

I considered trading the car in, but after dickering with the dealer, I was still looking at a $7000 delta due to the accident and depreciation. The insurance company has given me a check for $3000 to cover diminished value, which I guess I will pocket for the time being.

All that said, barring any additional problems, I am finally getting to enjoy M-ownership. It has been an uphill battle due to a streak of bad luck.

    jgoodson & 300m_vt - Blinking dash lights

Common problem. Try moving the dash light intensity "wheel" next to the headlight control. If it is right on the edge of "full bright", the dash lights will sometimes flicker bright/low. It's happened a couple times to me, and once I adjusted the control, it went away.

That's my exact system except for the tips. I'm going to try what they call "Lexus" tips (not sure if they come on Lexus' or not), which are oval in shape, rolled edge, and taper cut. They also don't have a resonator, so we'll see what those puppies sound like :)

That's the inferno red paint without bright sunlight shining on it. My car was sitting next to a red camaro today and it is significanly more maroon than typical red cars. It's just less maroon than the maroon M. :)
