Originally, I was looking to do an all stainless version of the Hujo setup. But I really couldn't find a good stainless equivalent of the Dynomax 17739 or Rhino 921. Finally decided on Magnaflow 14258 (stainless), stock intermediate pipe (stainless), Dynomax 17739 (aluminized), JC Whitney mandrel 90s (aluminized), and additional tail pipes (aluminized).

If you really want to go nuts with this (and I almost did), check out

    http://www.mandrelbending.com

They do custom mandrel bends, use stainless steel if you want, and ship coast-to-coast.

Good Internet deals I found were Dynomax 17739 for $49 from Jegs and Magnaflow 14258 for $114 from Husker Performance.

I have a license plate that was handpainted by a friend to match our 300M. It has a pearl white background and the M is painted a color that closely resembles deep slate and its changing shades.

are the aluminumized pipes and mufflers as durable as the stainless--will they last at least 5 years?-

I upgraded my 2* dealer to 3* today as they are solving most of my complaints. They ordered a new head unit for the climate control and also a blend door controller.

They flushed out the atf3 and put in the proper atf4.

They ordered new door weatherstrip all around to replace my shrinking ones.

They adjusted and greased the window regulator to quiet the clicking noise.

They couldnt duplicate the growling noise in the belt area so didnt fix it. I will demonstrate this on my next visit.

Gave me a loaner Chryler "Cheep" to use for 2 days.

And they washed my M. ( which was real dirty due to not washing it in well over a month)

So now I have upgraded them to 3 stars---if they do a nice job on installing the ordered parts, I may give them 4 stars (got to make them keep trying harder)--the only one I give 5 stars to is Britney Spears.

You only have 7,500 miles in 17 months???? WOW! I already have over 2,200 miles in less then 28 days of driving and I only have 3 miles to go to work! I think of places to go just so I can drive the new car. ;-))

I thought it would never happen to my M. It did. We have had a rainy weather recently, and it first started happenning when I had my wipers on. Then I turned off the wipers but the dash lights still flashed. I then realizes that my interior lighting thumbwheel was in the reostat position (not one of the click positions).

I clicked it in the first position (that's where it normally is) and flashing stopped and never came back.

Well I knew it would eventually happen with this car, and today it did...

While on my routine commute home from work, a pathetic little Olds Achieva decided to get within inches of my rear end while on the highway (just wouldnt back off)... Then he decided to try to pass me, so I decided to show this guy what an M could do... went to 3rd, next I knew I was doing 110... then came the State trooper in the Unmarked car :(

At least he pulled over the guy in the Achieva too...

    Bummer!

All, I just did a little "aisle browsing" in the newest edition of Road Test, by Road & Track. They have a real long and detailed comparison of the 300M, Lincoln LS, Catera Sport and the Aurora. The M and the Aurora tied for the best of the group, but one of the issues they had with the M was its soft suspension. They mentioned that the $500 PHG should drive the M to the top of the group and is well worth the investment. Even better, the M was about $4,000 less expensive than the other cars, had more interior and trunk space, and was one of two (the Aurora was the other) that was worth of the "near luxury" class. I almost bought it, but I need to buy apples and bananas. :)

Oh, by the way, I've noticed that in the last 500 miles my exhaust has gotten slightly louder and richer.

I too have noticed the increase in noise. It is nice, except for the little resonance. But once I close my windows it is quiet again.

Lets see... 2,200 miles in 28 days equates to 78.57 miles per day or 28,678 per year. Assuming $.10 per mile charge for over 12,000 per year ($1667.80), thats an expensive joy ride! LOL.

Thought that your previous car was worse than that. But your new car doesn't seem to elicit the passion that this one does, at least judging from the Fans of the CL topic. Be on the lookout for the rattling sunroof. Out.

    300mobserver-

It was the award winning "5-STAR" dealers that were WORSE then that!

The Fans of the CL topic here is dead. They all go to acura-cl.com. No rattling sunroof here or bad power window motors or warped rotors or defective tires or shrinking weather-stripping etc. Just a car that's a JOY to drive.

    Enjoy.

I have faxed the measurements of my tips to Ed Hanson so he can duplicate them for those that want them. He already called and told me that someone ordered a set. For those interested, his number is 619-698-7030. He wants $100 plus tax/shipping for the custom Y-pipe set-up for each side ($200 total).

Here is a Picture of the assembly. It's the back 15 inches or so.

Well the DC service shop passed a tricorder (according to "the wife") over the warp drive and determined, in 3 seconds, all was composetic and within normal op parameters. Coils, induction and inertial dampers were all within specs and thus when one has a Starship at one's command one should not quibble about having to drop in on every planet to scour for dilithium crystals for the warp core. In other words, 15.8mpg city driving is par for the course...bummer...

I have had my 2000 300 in the shop 6 times for vibration in front end also. Between 40-62mph the steering wheel would start to shimmy. 2 times they rotated and balanced tires (which didn't help). Third time they found I had a bent wheel. After replacing the wheel the problem still there. They brought in a tech advisor from main office and decided it was the rotors so they replaced them. Just got it back yesterday, was soooo excited no shimmy. Driving today noticed a little bit! Don't know what to do next.

As expected, I am back on the rattles issue that is once again growing old. In the closest town to where I live, there is some broken pavement in patches that crosses the road which then leads to a rather rough bridge. We were driving here this morning and while going across the bad road, there seemed to be more and more loud rattles in the cabin. This car rides fairly well over the rough stuff but then annoys you with some banging creaks & rattles. The gauges, dash, doors, console, and rear of the interior all had noises coming from them that were clearly noticable even over wife's new Begees CD blaring loudly from the stereo (still great I may add).

To look at and sit in the car, everything looks solid and noise-free but then when you take a trip down the road, those solid-looking parts sound like theyre about to rattle themselves apart. After seeing how many trips it took for the dealers not to be able fix just the gauge rattle, I believe the mutlitude of other noises are beyond the fixing level.

Dont get me wrong, its still a great car as long as the road is mainly smooth. Once we hit the highway and were cruising easily at 75-80 MPH, everything was great. I just wich the car could go back to the way it was the first 2 or 3 months we had it when their were no rattles or creaks. In our past 97 Grand Voyager, I may have accepted some of these annoyances because it was a relatively large vehicle with a cheap price (it was a stripped base model. Sure, within the first 2,000 miles the sliding doors rattled but after a few visits, the very nice dealer who would give us a car to drive for our inconveniance, had fixed them and the van never had a single issue for the next 3 years and 41,000 miles. There is no comparison between the van and the 300M but if the M could be fixed, it would be a lot better.

This is a great car that draws looks from almost anyone and is a terrific vehicle. But with the elimination of the rattles, lower noise levels, and a better transmission, it would be truly perfect.

This Chevy Impala renter just ain't doin' it for me.

Nearly lost it twice on the California Rts 35 & 84 yesterday.

Then again, 60mph on a twisting mountain road probably isn't good for any car... but I miss the autostick something horrible!

    where's the M?
  • dustinnewtondustinnewton Member Posts: 242
Do you have the Goodyear LS tires? If you do, that's likely your problem. They're junk, even when rotated and balanced. I have had a tire shimmy since I last rotated my Badyears, but luckily, as soon as the construction guys get this sunroom built onto my house and my hot tub installed, it's Pirelli P6000 tires for me! My Goodyears were vibration free well into triple digits initially, but have gotten bad over time.

All-Someone posted a ink a while back to a Chrysler car parts page that had a hoob bra for the M and some black stainless door edge guards. I made a bookmark at work, but my computer died before I could save my favorites folder to a backup directory. I have searched back 1000 posts and haven't found it. Does anyone remember what it is? I'm tired of rock dings and chipping paint on the edge of my M's hood. Idiots put gravel instead of sand on the roads this winter when it iced up. Alabama logic.

Pat/Apex-In the midst of my searching, I saw Pat's post about not having to start and stop discussions since we don't do the parts anymore. This will amke searching MUCH easier. I do have a request though. Can a "Chrysler 300M Archive" forum be created and all the contents of our past 19 "parts" pasted into that forum? It would make it easy to search those groups as well. I figure it would be too difficult at this point to put everything in one place, so the old stuff in another plance would be the next best thing. I hate to create extra work for you but...PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

I just bought the hood cover and I've had the door edge guards since day 2. They fit and work well.

Well here's the deal on that ticket... The State Trooper didnt use Radar, or Laser or anything (I would have picked that up with my detector)... Clocking was the method of choice... Supposedly this guy clocked me and the other car at the same time... The Trooper was never directly behind me... so lucky for me he didnt know I was going 110... He was behind the guy who decided to ride my rear bumber...

So in the end I got written up for "Marked Lane Violation" which I have no idea why, since I never left the high speed lane (the other car did), and for speeding... but get this, for a speed he put I was going 85-90... Can they do that ? I mean Ive heard of people getting off for non-calibrated radar guns... and this guy is saying he clocked me but doesnt know how fast I was going ???? I'm going to fight it...
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I'm not sure you'll accomplish the results you want if you tell them "They have no idea how fast I was going so they can't ticket me! Hell, I was going 110!" :)

Roger, I sent you an email about the shirts.

Dustin - You owe me nuthin. My pleasure. :)
  • sleepymwsleepymw Member Posts: 65
ok. mary got her rotor changed. when i took her in, they said they were going to charge me for 90$ for the pads, since rotors were going to be changed. on the receipt, it said "pads not changed due to like new" but i was charged 86$. the service manager said that because the rotors were not warranty items at 25K that they had to charge for the labor.

my question was, if they had changed the pads were they also going to charge me additional 90?

i have never heard of "one time good will" charge before, what the heck?

Speaking from personal experience, I'd go to trial. Generally, one of two things happens, both positive.

Best case is for the officer not to show up. Don't laugh, it happens more often than you might realize (it's happened to me 3 times). If he doesn't show up, you're not guilty. End of story. Needless to say, this outcome puts you in an unbelievably good mood for the rest of the day.

More common is for the judge to reduce the charge and/or fine. Also very common, unless you've got a few other tickets in the last few years, is for the judge to give Probation before Judgment, which essentially means if you keep clean for a year, the ticket is removed from your record.

The last time I had the honor of participating in the judicial system, the guy before me talked down a radar ticked for 92 in a 55 down to 65, by giving a sob story about being late for work (he was a car salesman).

To improve your odds for the first scenario, try to get the case postponed. Different states have different guidelines for being able to postpone, but it's worth a shot.

    Good luck.

Hey fastdriver, I have recently seen a bunch of complaints about rattling sunroofs in the Acura TL forum. I hope they make CL better than the TL :)
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
maybe you didnt turn on the feminine charm--or maybe you should have argued the charge and state that they didnt mention charging for the rotors--did you sign anything agreeing to that price before they replaced them?

I would have argued the point a little more--rotors should not need changing before the pads wear out.

Or maybe it's those 5* dealers in Taiwan---I hear they dont like Americans--;o)

Well, I bit the bullet and sat down with a dremel tonight. Did the Roger tinfoil template method and it worked really well! I bought some door edge molding and mashed it in there held by 3M trim adhesive. Now tomorrow it goes in and get's the whole thing put on, he's got the rear dynomax muffler, and I've got the rest, so.... Pictures and the full report tomorrow night!

    Wish me luck. =)
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
when you cut out the bumper cover, did you also cut out the inside edge of the left side so it would match the right cutout. HOw else can you put on that edge moulding on the left side.

ARe the dynomax mufflers rust resistant--did you use stainless pipes--did you buy the mandrel bent pipes from Whitney

Good luck ---guess this is a very popular mod. I may have to give it a shot soon myself.

No rattles here! Looks like maybe this time I got a good car while everyone else got "lemons". I guess time will tell. 2,300+ miles so far and loving EVERY minute of it!

From reading the posts in that newsgroup, I get the feeling that these guys abuse their cars. They're always talking about taking it to the track and racing. I did ask if the people with the complaints drive their cars "normally" every day or if they race them. So far, no one answered. Didn't check yet today.

Not sure Russ, I never asked (duh on my part). He did say, however, that overall my exhaust would probably outlive the car.

easyrider - We had to cut the inside lip off in order to get the door edge material onto the cutout on the driver's side.

Townhall archives can be found at The Consummate 300M Pages. Look under Forums and next to Edmunds is the Archive link.

I was never able to find links to sections I and II but if anyone can get to them let me know and I'll add them to the Archive link.
Correction, I looked again this morning and added section I, but still can't find II.

Well guys, despite my best wishes the the damn drift have returned. Grrrrrrrrrr... So I'll take it to NTB and have them just look at the car (not repair) to get a second opinoin about this. Maybe they can give me a honest and objecttive view of wheather 1. the tires are causing the drift, 2. the car keeps going out of aliment, 3. this is just the way the car rides,. or 3. They don't know what.s causing the car to drift afterwards I'll take it back to the 5* dealer with a new weapon.
