    fast -
Hey, don't jump on me. I'm not defending dealers or DC. I just noted that the local dealer had lost their designation and posted it. I have no idea if it was hard or easy to lose it. Seems like a pretty decent place. It's right down the street from me so I take my wife's Caravan there. They've always been nice and have put in the extra effort. I don't get the impression they're clubbing baby seals in the showroom.

    memphis-
I checked the article and didn't see any breakdown of what year the cars were. It's possible that the owners didn't know that there WERE cup holders (I didn't see an IQ breakdown either) :) I'm thinking you're right though. Wasn't it the 99 that had the window motor issue?

I saw that article last September on the Popular Mechanics website on the internet..It is headed "CHRYSLER 300M A storied marque proudly carries on. BY MICHAEL LAMM" Is this the same article? Do they really regurgitate their old reviews and reissue later? I printed this article out on 9/20/00 -- it has 11 pages (including 6 pages of "SUMMARY OF CHRYSLER 300M OWNERS REPORTS")!

Of course, upon reviewing the article today, it is still topical and true!
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
I know you and I both caused a stir at Chrysler about our respective 5* dealers and my survey return couldn't have been more negative. But they still retain the 5* designation. Maybe the 5* designation standard is something like "reasonably satisfying 50% of your customers 50% of the time..." or "it's OK to ignore the top 10% of complainers because they are probably just troublemakers anyway..." or "anyone who isn't satisfied with a polite 'could not duplicate problem' or 'operates within specifications' or 'customer must remember that we cannot correct the crown in the road'" is just a chronic complainer... LOL...

it is all a state of mind (except for the aches and pains). I'm 60+ too, and I still love pretty cars and fast women. I can't see, can't hear, can't walk; thank God I can still drive!!

Most of the 300Ms I see in my area are driven by 50+ folks and a surprisingly large number of ladies. It's up to us elder car nuts to show the 30 somethings that the 300M is not just your Grandfathers Chrysler.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Not sure. Maybe they needed some filler. I don't have the magazine here with me at work so I don't know who wrote it. It consisted of about 4 pages, including about 1/2 page in on survey results rather than 6 pages.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I got the clock faces today. Very cool. There are about 4 of them in the envelope. Are these for stacking, or just "drafts" used for packing? Also, I almost busted a gut when I saw the $0 "Queen Hillary" stamp you used! LOL!

Roger - You're only as old as who you feel! :)
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I didn't mean to start the age thing.....Just thought is was a little unfair that the percentage in the review was so low.. :))

Another 300M subject....Has anyone gotton the weather stripping replaced before it became a problem? My is perfect so far, but My factory warranty will expire some time next week when I pass that great 36K mile mark. I have an extended warranty, but do not want to pay a deductiable for it.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
You should see the other stamp scotian puts on his envelopes - "Slick Willy" behind bars. Makes a nice companion to the Queen Hillary stamp.

Scotian, where do you get those things?? I know they're not USPS standard issue. I'd LOVE to have some just for grins.

Regarding your request at dustinnewton May 2, 2001 6:03pm

Uhhhhh.... gee whiz. While that would be technically possible, given that each individual message needs to be moved ONE at a TIME using multiple steps for each single post, I don't think either myself or L8_Apex necessarily want to sign up for the job! :-)

Hang on for just a bit, okay? We have been promised a totally re-written, highly more useful Search function from WebCrossing for some time now. I'm not sure what the end result will be, but I am hopeful it will at least let us narrow down searches by specific boards (maybe even folders, such as the Archives? - not sure at all, though), and produce much more useful results than it does currently.

You have a very good idea, it's just not at all practical given the way "moves" work on this platform.

How many of you run synthetic on your "M"? I'll be changing over to syntec as soon as "M" hits 3k and was just wondering if anyone else is.

Age? Interesting precentage breakdown but not surprising. We're in the very early 50s class 8:)

Regarding your post rscheller May 3, 2001 6:15am about your website: first, I did find Chrysler 300M (Part 2) in the archives.

You can copy that link and paste it into your link on your site, if you would like.

And secondly, let me point out something about the links here on WebCrossing. They are different from our previous platform in that you cannot just copy a URL and expect that it will behave the same way for others (or even for yourself later) as it does when you are currently viewing it.

The best way to construct a link to any Town Hall page now that we are on WebCrossing is to first determine the unique FID for a discussion. This will be a sequence of letters and numbers following the "@." at the end of the link. Look at the URL for this page. At the end, you will see "@.eea34f8" (perhaps followed with a slash and another number). The FID for this discussion is therefore ".eea34f8". (Any slash and number should either be ignored, or if you want the link to go to the beginning of the discussion, replace it with "/0".)

To make a link for any Town Hall page, start with this text: "http://townhall.edmunds.com/cgi-bin/townhall?FID=" then add the "FID" for the discussion you are linking.

So a link to this discussion is constructed as "/direct/view/.eea34f8".

The FID for "Chrysler 300M (Part 2)" is .ee9e48d, so the text of the link I used above is "/direct/view/.ee9e48d/0" - I added the /0 (which is the absolute post number), so that following the link will take the reader to the beginning of the discussion.

The links you have used on your website will work, but they cause the person to arrive at the discussion NOT logged in, whether they are in fact logged in to Town Hall or not. Links constructed as I have above will not create that problem.

I hope this makes some sense, but if not, feel free to email me and we can discuss it some more.

    :-)

I'm 38 and have always driven "old man cars" according to my friends. It comes from riding with my dad in Old's super 88's and a host of other 300+ hp cars 20 feet long and that get 8 mpg.

I can afford more car but am too cheap too buy one. I will drive this for 5 or 6 years and see whats available then, for a bargain. while I like driving and cars in general, I think they are a poor investment. I also finance them figuring I can do better than 7.75% in the market and come out ahead (don't go bashing me on how i've done in the market the last 8 months :(

I just had the weatherstrips and broken armrest replaced this week. My M was built in Dec99 (14.5K miles presently) and all of the strips had shrunk. If you aren't having the weatherstrip problem by now , I would think it won't happen. The armrest is another story. The new one doesn't feel any more substantial than the one that broke.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I think it will. I live in south FL. It doesn't get below 50 much. It's hot. My M has not been in cold weather for long periods of time. I'm moving back to NYC in the summer. I'm afraid this problem will happen when it gets cold up there.
  • sugar300msugar300m Member Posts: 61
Have had Sugar since 4/99. In NYC, its been through hot & cold (110 & -2 according to the overhead) & I can't find any shrinkage. Wife has been parking outside at work all this time.
  • madcityrussmadcityruss Member Posts: 40
Not sure what it adds to the discussion, but my '99, purchased in November '98 and now having over 20K miles, has no weatherstrip shrinkage. In Wisconsin, we know cold.

I wasn't so lucky with the window motors, but only one (right rear) failed so far. Mr. FiveStar says not to worry if others fail after warranty is up. They will still replace at no-charge. See, they really are swell guys!

Pat-Thanks for the response! I dind't think it would be easy, but thought I'd ask anyway. What kind of legalities would be involved if someone like myself took the time to copy and paste the contents of all the old "parts" into a text or html document and placed it on the Enthusiasts' Club website? I know it's our comments, but with Ed's owning the board and it being copyrighted, I didn't know what implications it would have. I think copying and pasting (and a little bit of cleanup of links, etc.) wouldn't be too horribly bad, but I didn't want to embark on a project like that only to get to the end and find out it can't be viewed on another site because of legal reasons. The new software seens to be working out OK, but as you already know, the search capabilities leave a bit to be desired! Thanks in advance!
Sibe-I have used Pennzoil Synthetic exclusively every 3-4K miles since I bought my M on May 19th, 2000 and have been very pleased.

Scotian - I received my clock faces last week...there were two...Very nicely done! Thank you.

AGE - Rogor2k - If you didn't know how old you were, how old would you be? :-)
I'm mid 30's and purchased my M based on past LH experience. Our last vehicle ('96 Intrepid) was the best vehicle I've ever owned. It was great for a family (didn't do too bad in the performance department either!) I was sad to see it go...it was totalled in early March. Put 120K miles on it without 1 problem (not counting the minor irritations - rattles, etc.) Strange though...brought it to the 5* for service for the first time @ 120k (usually do my own) and within 3 weeks had a major repair (intake gasket). Really...I'm not implying anything :-|. I was very pleased with that vehicle which drove my descision to purchase another LH series. Besides that, the 300M IS, BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT, the best looking car out there!

Impression so far...I purchased my 300M used (18k miles) and haven't had any problems yet. Noticed that the drivers side head lamp is shifted up slightly (probably in a fender bender before I bought it) and there are a couple of irritating rattles (hate rattles) but I do live in Minnesota (have all my life) and the roads are the worst that I've ever seen. So, the rattles are somewhat explainable.

Synthetic - just changed to synthetic and am hoping for good results.

Zaino - waiting for shipment so I can get this car looking better than ever! I can't wait to see what it does for the Inferno Red.

Duals - Will definately be doing this mod sometime this summer.

I've really enjoyed reading the post here over the past couple of weeks.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Here is what Inferno Red looks like with a Zaino shine. These pictures are with only one coat of Z-5 and some Z-6 on it. It will actually get shinier. :)

Reflection of my house in the hood
    Neighbor's house from the roof
    Wheels like Zaino too!
    Nice Zaino rear

Sorry about your Intrepid & hope no one was hurt but if it led you to an M, it could be a blessing in disguise. I always did like those Intrepid's.
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
Which armrest is it that some of you have had replaced because it broke? Our door rests seem farely sturdy but the center console and it's armrest is terrible. It has a nice comfortable place to rest your arm but wobbles and rattles (yeah, I know, just like about every other interior piece does) around so much, I have actually wanted to check if it was missing a few clips or screws. This is probably normal just like the plastic surround that houses the window swtiches in the doors that slides back and forth like it's just sitting there in its cut-out. On both M's we drove, this switch surround was loose and moved a considerable amount.

I'm glad you asked first before going to all that trouble - you are correct, Edmunds does own the contents of this site, and it is copyrighted. To do what you suggest is a violation of that copyright.

You can do something like rscheller has done (see rscheller May 3, 2001 6:15am), which is post links to various discussions here in Town Hall, but you cannot post the text directly.

Let's just hold on and hope that the promised revisions to the Search feature will help us all out, okay? I can't tell you how much of a pain the current Search is for me, so I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you folks.

(If you do want to link to discussions here in Town Hall, see my post to rscheller pat May 4, 2001 11:06am - as with a few other WebCrossing "features", linking to here is trickier than one might think. And let me know if I can help in any way.)

Any new info. that you know about regarding the 2002 300M (standard or Special)? I know that you've said the Intrepid would gain the option of chrome wheels (in the Intrepid forum) but what about changes to the M? I read on car-truck.com that 2001 is the last year for the LHS and that it will be back in 2002 in the form of the "Limited" package on the Concorde. This wasn't very suprising as they seem almost identical with the LHS having some 300M pieces.

Choose a clock face and install it, and take pictures of it, and send me said pictures! Usually there is an extra face that can be cut differently if the one I cut is off for some reason.

The new armrest will crack as well as the old, I'm sure, and if the door panel replacements have an extra screw hole in them, then I would like to keep the old panel and repair it myself (it can be done -- in fact, I would like to pre-repair the new one before it gets installed) when the new one cracks after warranty.

The center console flexes because it is a large piece of plastic. I would think it possible to stiffen it a bit. You would have to take it out (which I've done) and glue in supporting ribs, and/or spray in some hardening foam, keeping in mind where the rear air ducts are. I don't think further securing it to the floor would help much.

Which 5 star do you go to? I bought my 2001 at Don Miller in Madison.

jr2k300m- I had a '95 Intrepid that was great also. I sold mine when I bought the 300m. I talked to the guy who bought it and he loves it too.

No one was hurt, thank God. I love big cars! My wife was driving and had my 3mo. old with her at the time.
They probably would have repaired the car until they saw that the airbags had deployed. That put it over the edge, cost wise. And yes...it was a blessing in disquise...Whenever I'm washing (or just admiring) the car my wife says..."Your Welcome"!

Thanks to all you guys with the responses to my posts for car covers and after purchase additions.
Today received my Techanalon car cover from TJ's and after washing Goldilocks, BANG, this cover fit like a glove and went on in less than 2 minutes. Thanks Keith for the advice. Mike, received my Mopar bra ($39.00) same as the 5* merchandise and also the 300M splash guards, (have you ever driven in NYC?)
and will put them on tomorrow if the weather holds up. Have only 112 miles on the machine in 3 weeks, just haven't been able to take her out. Like I posted earlier, Goldilocks is a weekend warrior and tomorrow I should spin the dials for another 100 or so and get the real feel of what it means to own this sled. I hope to do the window tinting one day but the duals...... that might be pushing it. By the way with all the referrals to age and M ownership, me being 44 and my wife in the passenger seat 8 years younger, this car looks even sharper. Throw my 2 year old son in the back and a daughter on the way, what percentile would we fall in.

Thanks for the posts. What a great feature.

Greg, Zaino polish is only available from Zaino.
Go to zainobros.com and read all about it, everything is there.
You can download an order form, and mail with a check. From the time you drop the order in the mailbox you should have the ptoduct in about a week.
    And yes, the stuff works.

I went for a test drive at a dealer in New Orleans who had 2 on the lot. The salesman grabs the keys to a black 300m only the remote does not work. He grabs the keys to a silver one and the battery is dead. He goes and gets a jumper. I ask him how long the car has been sitting on the lot, and he says they took delivery in November. There were only 37 miles on the car!!! The dealer only had two on the lot, and this car has sat there for 5 months with no mileage?? Are people not shopping for cars, or is this dealer just having problems?

Has anyone raced an S4 at highway speeds?

Some Audi chased me on the highway this morning but could not catch me. I never saw its rear, so I don't know if it was an A4 or an S4.

It started when I first merged on the highway. As I was accelerating, he was flying up to me in the left lane. Then finally I got to 100mph, and the closure rate tapered off. But he was still pushing, so I took him to 120mph. I could tell he was trying to catch me.

Then we came to a red light. He was in the same lane as me, behind another car. When the light turned green, I went. He swung out around that other car and started chasing me again. And he was surpisignly quick accelerating from the light. Too quick for a regular A4. He almost caught me and got me all worried. But I was able to pull away from him.

Hmm, age groups... I would be willing to bet that I am one of the youngest people on this board. I'm 20 years old and will be 21 in July. =) Wanted a M for the last 3 years, so I gave in and bought one, before that I had 2 intrepids, a 95, then a 97 (Loved the low end torque in the 3.5), but after my job changed I was driving less so I got my M.

Wait till tomorrow and I'll take some pictures after I was my car, and you all can see how pretty the duals look minus the zanio (Ordering tomorrow.)

And I was gonna mention, we have a few more people from the MN-WI area then I thought. I'm in the twin cities area, so is Scotian, ir2k300m said he's in MN, and madcityruss is in WI.
Hmmm, Roger, got a place for us to go? =) Maybe a big caravan to the meeting place. =)

hatax - You might be the youngest 300M owner in the world! I am very curious about your duals, because I will be using all the same components. Do the JCWhitney elbows give a straight shot out to the tips, or do they need to be trimmed / extended on the muffler side?

Small world TJ! I deal with Kayser Chrysler in Sauk City. For the most part, they have treated me right in both sales and service. At the time I bought (Nov '98), PHP 300Ms were in short supply and Don Miller had exactly zero. Plus Kayser was more fluent in talking turkey, if ya know what I mean.
