I bought my 2000 300m new last October with all toys, except for PHP (listed at 32,500) and I paid 25900. The same car (2000 300m) is selling at the same dealer now for 26485. I live around the Boston area and that's the prices I see around here. Lots of luck..

After reading these posts, I'm not as happy about what I paid for my M...
    Purchased used with 17.8k miles
    Price - $22,500
Car was well cared for but could have purchased new for a few thousand more!

I'm going to be up in the Worcester/Boston area Thursday/Friday.
WHERE did you buy your car?? If you have an address, phone number,
etc. I would appreciate it tremendously! I bought an Olds Bravada up
in Braintree a few years back and saved around $2K so your information
would be of great help! THANKS!!

    Otto,
You've piqued a lot of interest here in the "Tuner Pkg" available for 2002 1/2 models. I was wondering if you can tell us anything more about the dual exhaust. Will it resemble the Hujo design (single collector, single intermediate pipe, transverse rear muffler) or will there be separate pipes for left and right sides?

Just seconding Spyboy's request of the name and town of the Boston area dealer you bought from.

I purchased my car from Patalano Chrysler/Plymouth dealer in Franklin, Ma. They are located on RT140 just outside of town. Just saw the ad last night for new 2000 3000m list of 32500 for 26485. Look for Stan Morrill, salesman.

Just a Zaino note. The silver color of the 300M just doesn't due Zaino justice! I Zaino'd my Black 94 Explorer this weekend. WOW! That's all I can say!

I took my 300M to the dealer for the weather strip shrinkage. I do not have this problem but wanted to try & get it replaced before my 36K miles runs out sometime this week. They looked at it, Then looked at 6 300M's on the lot, & concluded there's nothing wrong with it, & they all are like that. They wouldn't replace it. I also looked at a few, & indeed they looked the same. So I guess if I develope this problem, I will have to pay my deductiable for the extended warranty. oh well :)

    Hello Board Members!

I am considering buying a 300M. However, I was looking at cars that had more speed/hp. I am cross-shopping because I like the speed/power of cars like the Mustang and the Trans Am, but those cars lack the functionality of a commuter car and the roominess inside.

Can anyone tell me if mods can be done to the 300M that would make it comparable to the Mustang GT or the TA as far as hp/torque? I understand that simply changing to a K&N air filter can give you a tad more hp... but what about other mods?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated, especially if you've actually done mods to your 300M!

    THANKS!

Ask your questions to Avalanche165 here, so the whole board can get in on it.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
One of the more popular 300M mods is a modified dual exhaust setup. You can see mine at http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=934019&a=9266730&f=0. Others have done variations of the same theme. A cone filter also adds a few more HP, especially if done with the dual exhaust. There's a JetChip module available that messes with the timing and mixture a bit, but the jury is still out on how much it actually improves performance. A few are now experimenting with boring out the throttle body diameter to let it breathe a little better. So, yep, there are mods we can do. There isn't a lot of bolt on speed equipment available yet. We keep hoping!

The 300M will never be a dragster off the line. I would think 0-60 in near 7 seconds would be possible, but from 60 to 120, in the engine's power band, she's a beast. This is an Autobahn cruiser pure and simple. It's a full size touring sedan with almost all the amenities for just a tad over $30K. Best value in the class.

Thanks for the tips. I don't expect it to be able to blow the doors off of a corvette or a TA, but after driving a Ford Escort for 5 years, I guess I'm a little power-hungry. I'd like to be able to pass when I need to! :-P
I need to go out and actually DRIVE the 300M. I haven't yet... how do they handle?
Also, can you tell me what the differences are between the 300M and the LHS? According to the info on the chrysler site, there really isn't a difference, except for a slightly different look.

    Thanks again!

If you're going to go test drive an M, take your checkbook...you'll need it! You'll want to buy the M on the spot. The M has the same enging as the Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler, but so far none of us have the 6K for a Paxton centrifugal supercharger (made for the Prowler, but should work provided there is enough clearance) for testing! There are a few here who don't think the tranny would handle the power, but I personally think it would handle it with no problems. The M weighs close to 4000 pounds, but it feels like you're sitting on a rocket. It's a real sleeper. I spanked a little Acura V6 today (not the latest model, but the one just before that), and the guy's jaw just about hit the ground. Got him in the 50-100MPH area. He hung tight low end, but when I hit the power band, 50-100 was a blink, and he got a long distance view of my rear end! It's a really luxurious and fun car that handles like a sports car to boot. It's a very nice total package! Be sure to drive one with the performance handling package as well as one without. The PHP adds stiffer springs, a tad stiffer steering, and takes the speed limiter off of the engine. Without it, you're limited to 118MPH, but without it, the sky's the limit. We have one one the board that used a friend in a Viper to check speed, and he hit 152. I have the limiter on mine, but it's solid as a rock at 118!!
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
DustinNewton, u can take teh speed limiter off....i did....and i've pushed 135 at carlisle 2 days ago, no problem at all...non-php
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
I second everything Dustin said. The LHS is very similar but a bigger car, about 10" longer overall, a little more rear seat and trunk space. The 300M is very adequate in both areas. even with the shorter length. The 300M was designed with the European market in mind, and fits into the "5 liter" Euro specs. The Europeans have shorter garages and parking spots than we do.

Basic drivetrain is the same on both cars. The LHS has a slightly bulbous rear end similar to the Concorde. The 300M rear is much more sculpted and (IMHO) stylish. The LHS does not have Auto-stick (pseudo-manual clutchless shifting) or offer the Performance Handling option, so the M is a better choice if you're looking for performance. The price is very comparable for both cars.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
OK Dude, inquiring minds want to know. HOW do you do it?? That one has had us all baffled.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The LHS has is longer (about a foot).
    a larger trunk.
    more rear seat leg room.
    more cushey ride.
    projector headlamps.
    The 300M has tighter suspension.
    auto stick.
    this group :)
With PHG has even tighter suspension.
    better brakes.
    tighter steering.

These are the major differances. It you want a smooth blvd. ride the LHS is for you. If you like to toss around your car a little get the 300M. If you like to toss it around a lot get the 300M with the PHG.

    The 300M is a 5-meter car, not 5-liter as in post 2917 : )

i drove a trans am this weekend, test drive, just lookin at it. 2001, its real nice, but leg room, sucks, head room, sucks, trunk room, i can't fit my hockey bag in there. speed, awesome, handling, awesome, looks, awesome. but the M has rooooomm lots of it. and reliability. PLUS, u can actually drive it in the winter with a chance, trans am, u got more than 5mph on black ice and u're gone. handling is good tho, i jsut need stiffer suspension, which i can get now from intrax, and if your worried about gunnin it, stop light racing, then your like me, and there ARE mods to turn your M into a stop light racer, ie... my car. u still won't beat those danm honda's, power to weight...but you'll put'em to shame on the highway...
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
It's getting close to quitting time and I must have had liquid on the brain. Yes, the 300M is a 5-meter car, and great meters they are too.

one day at school, the car started jerking like crazy, i was pulling into a parking spot....scared me, so i checked everything, alternator went bad. comptuer got screwed up. this was the first week taht i had my sound system, and it was killing the alt, so i took it to the dealer rigth then, they checked everything, the alt was pushing out more than safe level, so it was messing up computer. and it turns out, the speed governer takes up A LOT of computer memory, but i wanted that for my sound system, so the guy charged me 5 bucks, and took it out. its just a chip! nothin else. no physical restraints. when u hit 118, the computer does all the work. reset the comp, take out the chip, reset the comp, pay 5 bucks....

PICS, PICS, we need pics. Which chip, and is it something the dealer has to do? This is BIG news. We've been buzzing on this topic for months. That's the best $5 mod around Man!

except the scheduled Edmunds chats. The Chrysler 300M Enthusiasts Club chat room application is available 24/7 but we only currently use it on Wednesday evenings. Anyone can use it anytime, it only takes 2 to Tango!

Now that we have almost 100 members, maybe we need to schedule more evening chats. It's all up to the members. What say you, Members??

Just goto the dealer, how is this a big mod? do u go 118 that often? DAYUM, not even I drive TAHT fast. yea just goto dealer, tell'em u want it out, its your car, they can't really refuse. i got some friends in teh part dept. so i always get nice treatment now ;). they never ask me why i am doing something, i guess they jsut figure its for some purpose when they see the car. i go in every 3 weeks now and have the computer reset, HUGE difference. beacuse the car adapts itself to your driving. after awhile the shifting points loosen, so u reset, they are better...jsut a suggestion...
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
definitely! we should do that rogor, i love chattin it up with other owners....when are the scheduled times on edmunds?
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
It looks like I will be keeping my 300M, for two reasons. first the Special will not be out soon enough, and my M has most of the things the Speical is said to have. Second I have a mod (actually a couple of them) in the works that will make trading it in very costly. When I get my hand on all the items I will fill you in.

Avalanche, keep up the good work.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
Nope, I got so much $%*&%$ traffic here I'm lucky to hit 70 (Seattle has 2nd worst traffic in USA), but it's been a hot topic. Look on Edmunds home page for their chat schedule.

We can post pics here, but keep in mind a lot of folks still have dialup modems and the pics can clobber their download times big time.

BTW folks, Avalanche165 designed his own hood scoop. He has some cool ideas for ground effects parts (similar to Lorinser and Startech) and might be able to work a deal to design them and make them available if there is enough interest.

To get an idea of what I'm talking about, check out www.lorinser.com and www.startech.de. Let him know if you're interested in something like this. The prices will be MUCH more reasonable than the Lorinser and Startech equivalents.
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
PLEEEEEEEEEEEZ draw sketches, we can design a ground effects kit, and get it made as a bolt on accessorie. VERY easy to put on, no hassles at all. if i can get 20 definite buyers, we can buy for like $400 for front bumper. which is exactly the price you would pay for normal ground effects, but this is custom....

I don't think the average dealer is going to remove your speed governor any more than he would de-activate your airbags. There are safety considerations and, more to the point, lawsuits to worry about. The speed governor is there because the factory tires on non-PHP cars are not rated to exceed 118.

My 65 year old dad is in town for a visit and he followed me to a local nursery to look at fruit trees. He drove the M, I drove a borrowed Ford F-150 that has been beat to death. At first he was driving real conservative..playing with varioius controls and just enjoying the luxury of the car. A couple of times he shot off from a light only to let me catch up. At the nursery he told me "this car just wants to go", so I told him...GO! I also told him that the power band is over 50 so not to drag race anything that can do better than 7.5 seconds 0-60.

On the way back I lost sight of him early. Turns out he whomped a Celica from 70 to 110 on the freeway home. Chip off the old block. lol!

fastdriver is most likely correct about why they keep posting - and he is definitely correct about the fact that you can delete them - look to the right of the date and time of each of your messages and you should see a blue delete button.

What do you mean reset your computer every 3 weeks? Is this the same as disconnecting the battery for about 1/2 hour, or some must use DRBIII tool thing? Can't we just remove TCM fuse and accomplish the same thing?

Anyone got an explanation of what avalanche is having done at the dealer?

    Just curious

you'll have to ask Av who knows what he's up to, my guess is he's having the tranny replaced every 3 months with a Dana 44 with 4.56 gears from a Ram dually 4X4 so that the tranny can take all the hp from that new intake he's designed :)))
