i remember he said the speed limiter got messed up when my alternator was screwing up, so he said he would have to replace it, and thats when i told him to just take it off because its less is better than more, he did.....i have to go in and order a locking gas cap tommorow anyway so i can ask him for details, maybe even get him up on this board.....

Well, I got bored tonight and that's a bad thing, so I tore off the throttle body and did a grind down of it. =) I removed the lip and made the throttle body even all the way through and I also made it so the WOT is at 90 degrees. Took about 2 hours for start to finish, including grinding time, came out nice and I can tell a difference at mid throttle. Shouldn't hurt my mileage, but most likely won't help it either. Used my dremel to grind it down, then finer grit, cleaned it up with a wire brush and the dremel and then smoothed with emery cloth. Took it outside, blasted it with carb cleaner and put the AIS motor back in and fired right back up. Seems like the factory intake box is pretty well sized, wondering how much help a custom intake would give...... Anyways....

Hmm, no feedback on the duals...... =) Maybe it just looks even to me. =) Hehe..

Pep Boys, Checker, and Auto zone sould all carry the lightes I use for the side marker. I did not have to do any cutting or drilling for my home made conversion, but it does take a little while to grind down the plastic on the lens to make them a little more flush. The ones scotian has are oval Euro 300M lights. I plan to use the base of his Euro lights because they allow you to easly changes the bulbs. But I like the rectangle shape of mine better.
I went to K mart and bought a Back Up Alert and hooked it to my car. So far with almost two years of use I have had very little problems with it. I have more info in my web page that can be accessed through the 300mclub.org web site.

I am still waiting for mine (TB) to come.

It is beginning to sound like a few of us will be out hunting for 300M special when they come out. Should be interesting :)
  • oneblackhorseoneblackhorse Member Posts: 18
a 300M Special? Will be going out for a test drive tomorrow after work. I will then be able to better compare it with the TA I ordered. I know it couldn't beat it in a drag, but if it has enough passing power and handles well, I think I'll know which car to get. I need to check the resale values of both cars (something I hadn't thought of before).
By the way, I really like the new personalized clock face... where'd you get that from?

    I have one.

It's not a real good pic. Mine didn't come out great by the spokes( I think I just can't sew :)

Car looks great under, now you need a spoiler. Check the ones at www.dawn-ent.com. They are first rate, easy for my Ziebart dealer to install and the paint was perfect match to the factory stuff. Also, I noticed while at Ziebart dealer the other day that he was installing a backup alert on a van. I am going to consider one now, as I almost had a crash in a parking lot last week, and I am fanatical about careful backing. Who makes those extend trailer hitches anyway? Close enough to make it possibly a good investment if it works well, particularly if the spouse is out of town next week. When the cat is away....

    Hi Ski,
Thanks for the information the other day. I called Stan
last night. Good guy. Pleasant and sounded honest.
I wanted the 2001 with the goodies - $29.5K. MSRP
    was $33K. They had a few 2K left-overs w/out side
airbags, etc for $26.5K. Gotta see the thing on paper.
Now you guys are chatting up the 2002 w/dual exhaust!
Gets a few more mpg's and hps, huh? Decisions, decisions,
    Thanks again!

love the duals, the tips look great with the color, but they won't stay that way long, you might want to try and find something to put on them that would make cleaning them easier, mine were yellow and they didn't stay yellow long.

ive had your page bookmarked since the day i bought the car... lol

im gonna check out side markers today at autozone and what not. see what they got, otherwise i may buy those from roger

Nice look on the red trimmed tips. Now if they would just stay that way. Maybe you could find something to keep them from discoloring (Zaino??). Who knows, it works on everything else!

I like the one they have on spoilers4less.com

    Roger - Faroe Islands???

spyboy - I got a 2001 M with a sticker of $34,600 for $29,700...and the rebate is even $500 higher now than it was then. If that $29.5 is before rebate it is a decent deal. If not, keep negotiating/shopping. Also, don't get a 2000 if you can afford a 2001. From what people have said in here there have been significant improvements between model years.

oneblackhorse - One of the board regulars, scotian (Scott) makes those clock faces free of charge just because he's a nice guy. :) You can e-mail him at sjensen666@hotmail.com.

I currently own a '00 300M with less than 14000 miles on it. At speeds over 50mph I get a wobble in the steering wheel. It is not present at low speeds. It does not matter if the road is smooth or rough. I checked the lug nuts and they are torqued to specs. There is no pulling or apparent alignment problem and I had all four wheels rebalanced and rotated.

    Any ideas out there....??????

I have the 17 wheels, which are chromed if that means anything. Does anybody have any similar problems or know of any TSB's or factory problems with these wheels or wobbling?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have the spoilers4less.com version installed on my 300M. You can see it at http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=934019&a=7113867&f=0. I think it looks a little more muscular.

What tires do you have on the car? Many have experienced pulling and wobble issues with the stock non-PHG Goodyears. Here is alink to the resources page for the 300M Club. You'll find a link to the 00 TSBs on the lower right of the list. If you're not a member, you should consider it!

Thanks Mike for the info...and I'm considering joining the club too. I had no idea that the tires themselves could be a problem. Yes, I do have the non PHG Goodyear tires. So do you know what the dealer will do about them..do they swap the tires out or are you stuck with the problem?

    thanks again

What color is your Wheelskin? Black or charcoal/gray?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Keep an eye on the board for feedback on the "badyears". Several here have replaced them, and some have found a fix by having them balanced with a real high tech balancing system who's name escapes me.

Spoiler - Anyone know where to get a pre-painted spoiler in Inferno Red for the 01 M?

Tinting - Heading for a tint job (non-metalic). Anyone have any experience with different brands of tint that would cause them to recommend one over another?

    Thanks in advance.

    The pics I sent you the other day show my spoiler, and it definitely rides a little lower than the one you have, and it uses two posts rather than three. To each his own taste on what looks best. I'm waiting on one from Dawn for the wife's ESC now...she looks at me like I've gone nuts. Wait til it comes home from Ziebart with the chrome to grey window tint too!:}

On spoiler--see post 3008 for one nice brand. Rogor and others have also posted another brand.

I thought the manual said that it wasn't EL, but rather 6 incandescent bulbs providing the backlighting?
  • dustinnewtondustinnewton Member Posts: 242
I am getting very close to having my duals put in. I am going to use the cool tips that SDMike has, but I want to deviate a bit on the muffler system. I haven't heard of anyone else here doing this, so I wanted to see if anyone had tried it yet, or if I was going to be the Guinea Pig for the group! I want to leave the front collector muffler off, and just put in a plain old H pipe collector. That would leave only one muffler, ther rear one. If the sound were too much (and I know it will be loud), I could always go back and have a collector muffler put on, but I wanted to try it without one first. Comments, ideas anyone?

The FAQ page of the Club's web site, www.300mclub.org , has info on vibration, including a link to the web site for the Hunter tire balancing machines (how to find one near you)

    It's black. Matches well.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I think avalanche165 ran straight cat-back duals for his M (the one with the scoop) with one muffler on each side. He has some sound and video clips of it to give you an idea. I don't know how he ran his intermediate pipes, because all of us using the Hugo design have used the stock pipe back from the collector to the rear muffler. Are you thinking of just using a Y-pipe instead of a collector to run to the stock pipe and back to the rear muffler, or doing a straight dual system like avalanche?

Did you order the tips from Ed or the staggered Y pipes too?

  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I think it would make it louder, with no performace gain over the front collector.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
anyone know the paint code for Inferno Red Pearlcoat?
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
I agree with fuzzy. The Magnaflow 12258 (or stainless equivalent) is little more than a "Y" pipe. There is very little baffling inside, so very little performance loss there. The stock collector muffler is more of a "T" than a "Y". This may be the reason for the cabin resonance drone that some have experienced using the stock collector muffler. A straight "Y" pipe might give you more drone than the brain could absorb. Never know 'till you try it though. I have a couple of MPEGs of my car under power, I'll email them to you from home tonight.

Isn't the paint code on the inside of the driver's door? I'll check at noon...

I know you wanted to see pics of my clock faces...I tried! I bought a disposable camera and took pics of the cars and the clock faces. Some of the car pics came out O.K. but I couldn't get close enough to the clock face...anything closer than 4 feet didn't develop. I guess several years of not using a camera is catching up with me!!

I need to get a better camera but I don't want to spend a fortune! Also, I need some education on transfer of pics...should I scan or have the pics put on disc?

Anyway, the clockfaces look great and Lorrie likes the way her name looks just above the Chrysler wings on her 2001. I guess you'll just have to take my word for it for now!
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
u'll need to scan them. when u say putting them on disk i think your referring to digital cameras, talk about big bucks! those disposable cameras are pretty horrible arent they lol. borrow one maybe? u can get a camera at walmart thatll do the trick for not to much money...

also scotian i know i dont have the expiernce u do at clock faces, this is only my first, but if u'd like to see it ill have it on my web page sometime this weekend im sure..
  • mykemmykem Member Posts: 203
some places will give you a CD rather than or in addition to paper prints. The charge is like an extra $6, but worth it if you don't have a scanner.

Alternately, they can even send them to your AOL account if you have one... that's the "YOU'VE GOT PICTURES!" thing.

A Scanner for a PC can be as little as $100, if you already don't have one. They do have cheap-o digital cameras for less than $100 as well... check http://www.outpost.com if a local store only has high-priced options.

I did a lot of research on high quality inexpensive digital cameras before buying mine, so if anyone is in the market and wants to pick my brain give me a holler. Here is a good website for digital camera information...

    www.megapixel.net

All the pictures of my car were taken with my Fujifilm Finepix 1400, including the following clockface picture using "macro" mode.

Hey you have numbers on yours!!! Was that made for you, or is that the 01 model. I want them on my clock.
  • oneblackhorseoneblackhorse Member Posts: 18
Thanks! Does anyone know whether the dealerships are accepting orders for 2002 models? I read about the Special 300M here: http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/buzz/b101100.htm
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
The numbers and the wing logo come standard on the 01's. I know some 01 owners prefer to not have the wings and numbers, so maybe you can work a trade.

  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
The 02 model isn't officially released yet, even though the canadian plant is getting ready to start making them. According to board user "ottowkr", who actually builds these things, the '02 will be similar to the 01, and you won't be able to get that "special" version as I understand it. I'm sure others here have a better recollection of the details and will chime in.

I think you're right about what the manual says about the "electroluminescent" guages; I recall it showing light bulbs. I'll have to check again. But that company that makes electroluminescent stuff has the 300M instrument panel on its web site.

I'm confused. Ottowrkr -- what the heck's in there? I'm not inclined to take it apart to find out.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
You're not inclined to take it apart? Is this a first? lol!
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
Yeah, I'd like to see pics. For anyone else who wants to make their own, there's a cutting template in my PhotoPoint.
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
I checked at noon and didn't find a paint code no. I found the VIN no. and another no: "MDH 05205 796AA". Could this be the paint code no? The paint code is not on the invoice/sticker...

The picture of your clock face is great!!! If I could do that with cheap equipment I would be very happy...I'm not a camera buff and I don't want to start equipping myself as one!

BTW, when I installed my wife's clock face, it looked as though her name, which is on the transparency just above the wings, appeared to be slightly off parallel -- sloped left to right. However, looking at the blow-up of your clock, it appears to me it's the wings that are slightly off parallel -- sloped from right to left...maybe it's just an optical illusion?
