Doh! Of course, the chat room time is 10:00 PM EST. Thanks for restarting my brain. Never could figure out why we have these time zones, everyone should be on the same time. Much simpler. 8~)

I added a gray checkerboard pattern, and I think it looks the best of the three versions. If anyone wants a new or replacement clock face...

Well, it's been a big weekend for me and the Silver Bullet. On Friday, the long-awaited Ed Hanson exhaust tips came. These are the same tips featured on sdmike2's 2001. Simply put, they are awesome looking, and the Y-pipes are beautifully made out of 13-gauge, aluminized steel. I can't wait to get them on the car.

With that inspiration, I backed her onto the ramps this morning to begin my cutout work. I was glad to discover that the left rear muffler and pipe assembly can be removed with just hand tools. So, I was quickly into cutting out the lip portion of the left side cutout. For those contemplating this job, I want to emphasize something Roger said earlier: You can afford to cut well inside your lines because sanding out to the lines is incredibly easy. If ever there was a material designed for rotary tool sanding cylinders, it is this bumper skin. I am using my RTX on the lowest speed for both cutting and sanding. I have TrimLock molding to hide any grievous cutting sins, but it's turning out so well to this point that I may be able to get by with just touch up paint. Tomorrow - right side.

As I was working under the car, a package arrived containing side marker lights that I had purchased from Roger. (Thanks, Roger!) My neighbor asked why have a new car if you're always working on it. He's not getting it.

On a slight down note, I looked at putting drain holes in my sideview mirrors, but it appears, because of the door's convex shape, that the mirrors will need to be off to drill in the correct base location. Oh well. Cheers, and Happy Mother's Day!

Sounds like a great weekend! I wish mine was as nice. I didn't even get in my M except to move it, and it rained. :( Glad the tips turned out nicely. I too think they're really sharp looking. Don't forget to take pictures of your project(s)!

I have a 2000 Impala LS. I desperately want to have side market lights on my vehicle. How do I get them and how easy is it to install it myself?

    Thanks
  • madcityrussmadcityruss Member Posts: 40
What's wrong with this picture? You're in San Diego grumbling to a guy in Wisconsin about the weather!

Hey, thanks again for sharing Ed's handiwork with this board, and for taking the measurements he needed to complete my job. On the phone, Ed actually thanked me for ordering the tips. He really seems to enjoy pleasing folks that love their cars.

i know roger sells side markers for the M's but that doesnt help much with an impala. You can get universal ones at most of those autozone type places. u may have to drill a hole for the wiring and stick em on there with some 3m double sided auto tape, but im not sure, never done it myself. i have some for the M on there way here i got from roger, but those are much easier to install im sure...

    Go to:

    Town Hall \Aftermarket & Accessories\Aftermarket & Accessories - Archived Discussions\Aftermarket Side Marker Lights

    Lots of links.

If that discussion wasn't archived I would add my PhotoPoint album to it.

really nice job on that new 300M logo--I may take you up on that offer :-)--also may change the wording I used--I'll email you soon--that clock face idea of yours sure makes personization of our M's and easy and unique mod--should get compliments and questions from the service techs--I'm sure all who have ordered your clock face appreciate your inventiveness.

Send me your address so I can send that plotter I promised you.

You must have the same neighbors as I do. They are always asking me the same thing.

Scotian, the checker board logo looks much better.

About the archived Aftermarket & Accessories discussion - if you want to, you could email either of the hosts and ask that they reopen it. Or you could start a new one.

You'll find all host's profiles at the top of each discussion board, and each profile contains the host's email address.

    Just a thought.

Saturday was a very good day. I picked up my new M in the afternoon and was able to show it off to my friends at an evening cookout. This car soooooo good looking inside and out! And the ride... For me, coming from a 130K SHO that rattled your brain, it is a huge upgrade.

Today, a quick wash and then off to the in-laws for more showing off (and Mother's day). This is my first new car in nine years. I might have to do this more often.
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
congrats!!!!!! ive had myne a few weeks now and im still not done showing it off!! :)
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
Reopening is preferrable to starting a new one. Do I have to email one of you guys? Is this request that you reopen it good enough?
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
You need to email one of the hosts of that board - go the main A&A board list - you'll see your hosts listed as Steve and Drew - click on either of those names to get to a profile which will give your their email addresses.

Oh here, I've got them, hang on a sec. :-)

Great minds think alike! My 2k M is also named Silver Bullet. Bought it last August, so maybe I have first dibs on the name?? :^)

Took the wife and kids to Ft. Worth today hoping to convince them that the M was comfortable on a trip. Murphy's law struck hard! When we turned onto the street that led to the Museum we were looking for, it was an ancient brick street that jarred our teeth out for about a mile! That PHP has its downside. They all turned thumbs down on any more trips in dad's car. :>((

    Regards, Silver

That's what I find amazing about Ed too. When I thanked him for the great job I did on my car he told me it was an honor and a pleasure to work on such a lovely car. I think you're right...he's not only a nice guy and a great exhaust system installer, he truly appreciates fine automobiles.

Oh...it was 71 and sunny here in San Diego today. I take back all my previous griping. lol

My headlight welts seem poorly positioned around the upper corner--also one is loose at the end for about an inch::

Does anyone (ottoworker or others) know what is involved for the dealer to replace this---do they have to remove the front facia to access the welt to install a new one---reason I asked is I just had my front facia repaired and dont want to have it removed again--anyone know the welt replacement method

Check out http://www.paintscratch.com and put in the year of your M to see the colors available. You can even verify your code with theirs. I haven't ordered from them before(saw an ad in this month's Popular Science), but I think I'll try it out on a few hood chips. Their site is VERY thorough and quite impressive. They custom mix the paint when you order it.

denverm--that looks like a photo I sent to drpixl some time ago, but didn't know if he got it. I had a bad day with a digital camera from work [the little picture screen on the camera wasn't working] and messed up the shots by moving too quickly. Being digitally challenged, I took some good old hardcopy 35mm shots, and sent them to Roger, who agreed to post them, but I stupidly used the U.S. Postal Service and they haven't got to Wash. yet. They show the spoiler and tint much better, and hopefully he will get them soon and can post them.

Roger--USPS--What can I say. Is a week unexpected for a simple piece of mail? [I better be careful what I say. Do not want an AK-47 appearing at my door with a postal worker attached to it.]

I took my first road trip in the M after putting the Jet modual in, & putting the Bosch +4 plugs in. From south FL, to Orlando, 400 miles round trip. I did 75 all the way, with the AC set to 70, & I averaged 22MPG. It's about the same as I always get, so those mods did not hurt, or Improve gas mileage. I did get a ticket though. A FL state trooper went way out of his way to give me a non moving volation ticket for window tint! Picture this, I heading north, car in front of me car & in back of me, I'm in the right lane doing the speed limit of 70MPH. We pass a trooper park on the center of dividier. I see in my mirror he turns around & gets on the road. About a mile up the road, I see him get into the left lane. He then gets into the right lane, & behold his lights come on, & I get pulled over! So thinking he was going to try & give me a speeding ticket(even though I wasn't speeding) he walks out of the car with this little box that looked like one of those electronic wall studd finders, gets to my window, askes me to roll the window up half way, slides this box over the window presses a button, it it measures how dark the tint is. It comes out 14%(I have 15% all around) He tells me the FL limit is 23% askes me for the regestration etc. & gives me a $44 ticket! That's just crazy! This State trooper went out of his way to give me this minor ticket! Anyone know where I can find info on this box that measures the tint? I want to get all the info on this box that I can & use it in my defense. I'm fighting this one. Even if I don't win, at least I give the cop a headach going to court with this minor ticket. I'm also checking if this tropper even had cause to pull me over. I did nothing wrong. He singled me out in a group of cars(maybe because he was jelous of my 300M) Funny thing is his car had darker tint them mine!
  • racefan009racefan009 Member Posts: 47
in GA they'll make you start pealing the tint off right on the spot, give you so many days to have the tint completly removed and you have to prove it was taken off. although they rarely enforce it. every time i've been pulled over i've had dark tint, never once have they said anything about it. the limit is 35% in GA and i have 18% all the way around. he was just using the tint as an excuse to hopefully find something else.

Fuzzywuzzy:I'm neither a cop nor an attorney, but if you're windows are tinted, and he feels they MAY be too dark, I think that gives him just cause to stop and check them.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
My point is how could he tell. I'm going past him at 70MPh. He is not moving on the side of the road.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
I'm confused. You resigned from the Club in January. How is it you have access to the Members Only area of the Club web site, which was not even implemented when you resigned?

Do we need to upgrade our security, or have you rejoined the Club under yet another name?
  • denvermdenverm Member Posts: 358
If FL law limits tint to 23% and you have 15%, haggling over the trooper's light sensor probably isn't going to get you anywhere. They'll ask you to produce proof that your tint is not darker than 23%, which you can't do (some states apparently require that a certificate be in the vehicle as to the tint darkness). Probably your only chance of winning by contesting it is if the trooper doesn't show up for the court date, etc., unless there is some law in FL that window tint is a secondary offense, i.e., cops can't pull you over just for that (CO used to classify not wearing your seatbelt as a secondary offense, but I think that has changed now).
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
looks like you are busted---so which one of the 3 members in GA are you--you said there are 2 other members and 3 are listed so you must be one of those 3-----might as well have a truce now so you can legitimately join the fun---

I think a lot of us are going to Detroit in August for the Woodward cruise--sounds like a load of fun--maybe you can drive up from Hotlanta and join in.

so which one of the 3 in GA are you?---we dont want to have to send Igor after you , so you may as well fess up and then you can post your website on the members page--
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I'm going to check into that. I have heard in FL, that a state trooper has to have a serious cause to pull you over, like speeding, or reckless driving. Regular cops can, but the state trooper cannot. I don't know how true this is, but i'm checking it out. My thinking is if I can't beat the ticket, at least I'll drag that cop into court over it, & drag it out. He deserves it!

Hey Easy , yes the light has to be removed to replace the welt . You don't have to fully remove the fascia to remove the light . If you loosen up the fascia it can be removed .You can then reposition the rubber on the light and reinstall it, or just try loosening the light and moving the rubber into position and then tightening the light back up. Was the welt fitting poorly before the front fascia was fixed?? Just wondering as maybe the place you had the repair done caused it.
