I found the easiest way to pull the clock panel is to use a hook tool and grab inside one of the vents and pull GENTLY. No scratches or marks. Works like a charm.

Sorry to post this here, but I couldn't find your e-mail address. Friends of mine won a CAR at Mohegan Sun a week ago this past Saturday! Took the $45,000 cash! I wasn't with them! I usually am. Nice, huh?

D'OH! Yeah, I'm jealous (and would have taken the $$$ also). I keep trying.... They musta won it from the slots? Mohegan is giving away new cars everyday this month in random drawings, but they're $20,000-$25,000 cars (or $12,500 cash). I'll probably go in a couple of weeks.
Washed and waxed my Platinum M this weekend. Immediately covered by pollen. Plus mucho work being done at my place of employ so all cars are covered with dust. But when it's clean and the sun is shining on it....Beeeeautiful. Still no problems to report after 23,000 miles. MPG seems to be improving a bit, too. Good thing as gas prices seem to be increasing 2-3 cents a day.

I think NJ has the cheapest gas right now. When I was there last weekend it was $1.59 for 87, in NYC it was $1.71! In FL now I'm paying anywhere from $1.60-$1.82 depends on where.

The News today (and yesterday) said Atlanta is tailing the group at 1.42 on average.

My hometown of Chicago is now number one. Although this isn't a game to be the leader.

You guys think you have it bad? Try on $1.97 a gallon for regular unleaded and $2.07 for mid grade, thats in the valley. Over in SF its worse, $2.09 for regular and up. Sure glad I dumped my Jeep last year, 11 mpg was killing me then, I'd be bankrupt by now with these prices!

yeah i sold my JGC, when gas was 1.30 i live in ATL, why they don't go ahead and rob all 4 million of us is beyond me...for once it's nice to be in last place :))) i'm paying about 1.52 for mid.

Maybe this is why I bought my used explorer so cheap 3 weeks ago :) Great time for an old gas sucking SUV, that because of modifaction needs 91+ gas :( The 300M sucks some as well. Maybe i'lll give up all the HP, & make mine into an electric 300m. Bet no one has done that yet :)

...that the federal or state governments haven't stepped in to do something about these prices. These companies are recording record profits through collusion, misinformation to the media, and price fixing, all at the expense of the general public and our overall economy. I agree 100% with a free market economy, but what we're seeing now is an unabashed raping of our wallets. I guess the oil companies think since the leader of the free world (debatable) is a Texas oil guy they're immune to the laws.

    just venting.

Your M is one of the best I have seen in a while. Platinum looks great--too bad they only made it the first year. Oh, and that hood is just cool! Don't change the wheels to anything else--the chrome Razorstars are already some of the best looking wheels that you'll find and anything bigger would mess up the ride. Keep doing mods and keep this board posted!

up, this "easy to take off the clock panel" is just not working for me.... i'll be the first here to write "well, it cracked" so i'm not tempting fate anymore.. gonna have the dealers do it instead.

side markers.. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? IMHO, the M is beautiful as it is. i can understand some people modifying their cars to individual tastes but are these side markers functional?

now, don't flame me... i just love the M for it's original beauty. i can even deal with dual exhausts... but removing letters and adding this and that to distort it to anything other than a luxury sports car... well... i'll leave it at that. :)

Clock face -- What cracked? If it's the little chrome plastic tabs keeping the two clock halves together, you can use Scotch tape to keep them together just fine. If the vent trim cracked, that would be impressive, as it's very thick. The radio trim? I could see that happening.

Tell me what the dealer thinks of the clock face. I think mine thought I was nuts!

The side markers are functional, if you wire them up. They flash with the turn signal.

My side letters were removed because the clear plastic coating peeled off this winter and the chrome was corroding -- looked nasty. I wouldn't put the new ones back on unless I move to an appropriate climate. I do think it looks better with the letters.

now.. you all didn't hear this from me.. BUT... there's a possible switching of hoods and car doors going on when dealers that are in areas of acid rain.. such as my area. what they do is they take another car's hood or door and switch it with the car that they sold .. and they keep doing this until the part gets so bad and they repaint it. but this speeds up delivery.

i immediately went and LOOKED for vin numbers on my doors and my hood, I CAN'T find it.

the owner manaul states only the "dash" area. doesn't tell you where else you can find your VIN. anyone else knows where these numbers are suppose to be?????????

yes, it is federal offense. and i have heard what the dealer does is buy the car back from say.. another dealer if they had sold it to another dealer, or customer... but heck, i tell you, i just HOPE mary isn't one of the switcharoos.. .cuz they don't wanna even see me coming if that's the case!

my email isn't working guys, so please reply on here. thanx.

nothing cracked yet, i was just saying that mine would be the FIRST to crack knowing me..

i just haven't been able to get my finger in there to pry it open and didn't want to put too much stress on the plastic.....

avalanche: if you shared my thought we'd be the same person :) enjoy your car, it is very nice and if i was 10 years younger i might of done the same...but years of self imposed mistakes taught me one thing "leave well enough alone whenever possible, if it ain't broken don't fix it and if it's broken, get a new one." :)
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
Have you tried an old credit card? Once you lever the vent dash partially open, its pretty easy to get your fingers in to snap it open. The credit card will bend a lot (maybe even break?), so I never felt that I was going to do any damage to the dash...it was way easier than I thought it would be!

    sdmike2-

You mean the car my friends could have had at the casino or my new car? My new car can be seen by clicking on my name above and following the link there. The car on the turnstile at Mohegan Sun Casino was some kind of a Toyota SUV. My friends didn't want or need an SUV, so they opted for the cash instead. I'm not even sure how this works. The slots around the car on display are $1.00 machines. On the machine, it says that the jackpot total is $45,000. I don't know if this means that the car on display is always $45,000 or less or if it's worth more then $45,000 you pay the difference?? I never really studied those slots very carefully. A little too rich for my blood.

    sleepmw-

You crack me up. ;-))) I can just see you trying to take the clock area apart while the kids are climbing all over asking you what you are doing.\

"but years of self imposed mistakes taught me one thing "leave well enough alone whenever possible, if it ain't broken don't fix it and if it's broken, get a new one." :)" LOL.... I agree with you!!

    laurasdada-

Isn't that something! I'm so mad I wasn't with them! Like I said above, this was the one area where they have the car on display near the food court. Yes, they are giving away a car a day in May. Is that just at these slots or is that some kind of drawing? I don't know. I'd take the money too. Don't need another car now! ;-) Glad everything is okay with your car.

Hi guys, this is my first post. Spent the better part of the year
deciding between a variety of cars and the 300M is it. Now, I
need help on two issues: 1. What's the inside poop on the 2002
300M? Any improvements, new designs, that might blow us
away? In other words, should I wait for the 2002's?
    2. I can't seem to get the deal below $30K. Is it New York, is
it the dealers,....or gulp...is it wimpy me? Anyway, I saw a "demo"
with 7K, white, luxury group, chrome wheels, sunroof, 4 CD Disk
for $28K. Pretty sharp! Smelled new. Good deal or what????? Thanks.
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
well they stick well because when u snap the two halves back together it pinches the transparency, u just have to make sure its sitting exactly where u want it to sit when u snap them together. pretty easy to do because static tends to hold it in place for u
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
The side marker lights are what the export 300Ms have installed at the factory, so we're just adding them onto our cars. They flash with the turn signals. I think they make you safer when changing lanes, because drivers alongside you can see them flashing when they might not be able to see your rear flashers. A lot of American car makers are installing side marker lights on new cars, but not DC (yet). If you look at all the new European cars, they all have them (Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, VW), etc. Just a matter of time until DC does it on the 300M (or 300N).

Our "inside source" tells us that there are virtually no differences in the 2002. Some electronics changes, but nothing the buyer would see. Don't know what the pricing will be on the '02, but you should be able to cut a much better deal on a remaining '01 (definitely UNDER INVOICE). Some of the posters here have a lot of good info on figuring the best deal you can expect, so I suspect they will be responding to your post very soon.

Anyone can make their own transparencies, and even download my graphics to do so. My advantage is that I can easily exactly cut a transparency with the templates I've made for this purpose. I suppose I could put up a graphic used to print out the template, but it might not print out exactly the same size on everyone's printer.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I paid $29,500 for my fully loaded 01 M with a MSRPof $34,580. It had 22 miles on it when I got it. That's $5,000 off MSRP, but it included a $2,000 factory to consumer rebate that was going on in April. Not sure if it's still around. Compare the quotes you're getting at the dealer to what you can get quoted on-line at www.carsdirect.com. I got my car for $700 or so under the carsdirect price, but it should give you a great idea of how competitive your dealer's price is and what incentives might be out there.

Also, go read www.carbuyingtips.com for a ton of helpful information on researching and negotiating your best deal. It was a huge help to me. Hope this helps.

It doesn't sound like a good deal at all. In a very short while it will be a year old and I already consider it a used car (preowned if you like). That means it better be discounted far more then that 28K you were quoted.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I just checked carsdirect (for my area) and they list a rebate of $2,500! So, that car as you described would have a sticker about $33,000, and a dealer invoice of about $30,700. That invoice includes a 3% dealer holdback that is immediate profit, so if you paid invoice minus rebate ($28,200) for that car, the dealer would still be making about $900...which is MORE than fair on a NEW car. Here's the rub....that car has 7,000 miles on it!!

For that 7,000 miles I would require them to take $3,000 plus $.20 per mile off the price (which is what they'd charge you if you went over on a lease). If you do the calculations that would be about $3,400. Soooo...maybe that car would be a decent deal at around $25,000, but NO WAY would I pay $28 for that car.

I got my car for $250 over dealer cost, and others here have gotten similar deals. If you apply that to the car you're looking at, the net dealer cost (invoice less holdback and rebate) is around $27,600. Again, that's for a new car, not one with 7,000 miles on it.

    Hope this helps.

    Mike
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Calculation problem. I dropped a $1,000 in the "used car discount". It should be $4,400 not $3,400. I wouldn't pay more than $23,500 for that used car.

This web site says that as of 5/7/01, a $1500 incentive was in place for 300M's through 7/3:

    http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/buzz/buzznews.htm

I think that DC is allowing different regions to market different incentives, though, so it may vary from region to region.

One thing to consider before buying a demo is that the warranty is reduced not only by the number of miles on the car, but also by the number of months since the car was put in service. When you buy a new car, it's put in service when you buy it, but a demo was put in service at some earlier date. Ask the dealer for the date that this demo was put in service.

When I bought my new '00, another dealer had an almost identical (everything the same except it had 16" wheels instead of 17") demo with 5,000 miles and seven months of service on it. The lowest deal on the demo was only $800 less than the new car I bought, and I never regretted paying that $800 for those first 5,000 miles.

I am very close to signing on a M with a $33976 sticker (including $551 advertising fee). The best number I've gotten from my dealer so far is $29100. Right now the advertising fee is sticking in my craw.

Also, a couple of days ago I posted about a new, shale green 01 with lux, 4CD, moonroof, side bags, that my dealer offered for $25900 because of some history that prevents it being sold as new. I asked the salesman to find out what exactly was/is wrong with it. He got back to me with a story about how it was "scratched all over" and had to be repainted. I looked over closely and there's something funky about the way the right rear tail light is fitting. Despite the very attractive price I'm going to stay away from it. It's non PHG anyhow.

anyone know where the vin numbers are located? i remember someone once said that there's 5 places that have vin numbers. i located the one on the dash, one on the body of the car, inside the driver side.. but where are the rest of the 3? is there any on the hood of the car?

since i heard this from a friend who was a salesperson at the dealer i bought my car from, i'm a bit worried...

any help here would be appreciated....

i'll give that clock face one more try...

If you make it a PDF document, it will be the same on everyone's printer and computer, regardless of platform : )

Maybe, if you don't have Adobe Creator, I know PhotoShop will do it.

And if you don't have it... the prolific and astounding creative juice artist of a webmaster of the 300M club has PS and might be able to help : )
