from what ive read in past posts, premium is not a plus for the M
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The trip computer is nice, but I use the old system fill up the tank drive. Then fill up again and record the distance and the gallons used.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I have gotton 0-60 times just under 7 seconds (6.97 is the fastest time) with the following.
    Dual exhaust, biggest improvement.
K&N stock replacement, or S&B cone filter.
    G-Force tires. (friends)
bord out Throttle Body 68+mm from 62mm.
    5w-30w motor oil.

Things I am currently working on
Hood scoop (like Avalanche's) to help force more air into the system.
Changing the intake tubes to all 3" minimum to reduce air restrictions.
My goal is 204hp at the wheels, which should be about 305hp at the engine the 100 hp is parsitic losses. I know this is sad.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Would you tell fuzzywuzzy (since I am not talking to him anymore) it will be sad to see you go.

Ps I would like to see an M7, that would go for 30K to replace my M.

    Ps just kidding fuzzywuzzy. :)

    Thanks.
I have been limiting M to a 89 octane diet.

BTW : First problem today with my M, occured at about 1250 miles. The CD changer will not play disc 2, 3 or 4. Also will not eject any disc. Today is the first time I tried to eject a disc but all were playing OK this weekend.
Taking a 1000 mile trip Thur - Sun, wsh I could change disc's.
    Is this common.
  • lonestarsledlonestarsled Member Posts: 226
kpm61 - the only "quirk" that has been talked about here about the CD changer is it's characteristic of skipping on rough roads while reading CD-R's.

take it to the dealer and explain. theyll fix it for ya

I have been wondering for a while why some people think the M is a slow mover. Now I understand. I just got back from a three day trip to RI. While there I was luckily upgraded to a brand new 2001 300M with 250 miles on it since last time I was there my rental broke down ("99 300M- steering pump). Compared to my car this M was a dog. It is amazing what a few thousand miles and a better intake and exaust can do for an engine.

so what is your average mpg over several tankfuls and what kind of driving do you do--also what does you overhead distance till empty usually read after a fillup
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
yeah , like they are going to listen to me . maybe I will go to the plant managers office and demand HID on the 300. As for the 5 speed in the 300 speacial , not likely. But I did hear a 6 speed for 2004 .
  • ir2k300mir2k300m Member Posts: 26
I have averaged between 20/21.5 city/hiway in MN. Haven't seen over 22, even on long trips. Using 89oct. No performance mods yet. I've been driving very conservatively trying to improve the mpg's.
Would like to see averages based on geographical location because of the different types of fuels.

Hey AV ... springs look GOOD !!! ... nice drop ... FINALLY my air suspension is done it was actually done Monday, but I heard some noises I didnt like coming from the rear end so they fixed that but then it rained and I dont drive my car in the rain so I will be picking it up today after work ... with the 20s on there and the air suspension all the way down the total front drop was right at 4" and the back drop was 4 1/4" ... if I had only bought 18s the body would be laying on the ground right now ... but not thanx, ill take the 20s anyday ... it will also park on a 7 1/2" dogleg ... i will be taking pics sometime this week/weekend and will be updating my site at that time too ... http://members.cardomain.com/herrmdogg ... well I gotta get back to work so see all you guys later ...

I filled up yesterday and the miles until empty read 342. The number varies, but not too much. Since the first day I got the car it has not said less than 300 miles. I also do the calculation and the computer is usually a .1 or .2 higher than the calculation. I have about 25 miles on this tank and when I got out of the car this morning my mileage was 25.1.
There is something wrong with your car Easyrider if you get less than the city average on 60/40 hwy/city driving.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
For the remote start. The key has the chip in it, to start the car. This key needs to be in the car, attached to the remote start system.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
The manual says to avoid anything above 89 gas. It says it will provide no benifit.

according to them, they just switch the throttle body from the m with a prowlers....hmmm...how did that work for them? i'm gonna go check the price on a prowler tb today at the dealer...

    jason check this out...recaro seats...

on a pt tho but this is what i wanna do, reverse the colors...more black then other tone

  • voodoojonesvoodoojones Member Posts: 5
I thought the motors were identical (prowler/300m/intrepid R/T) the engine management was the only difference.
The listing for replacement TB's is the same for 3.5L engines. Can anyone confirm this?
  • voodoojonesvoodoojones Member Posts: 5
I replaced the TB with a 68MM and I replaced the air intake box/tubes with 3" flex alum. and rubber couplers. The car feels like it struggles to rev above 5800 rpm in 4th. A lean condition may be the cause.
Does anyone know what the factory fuel pressure # is?
Can the pressure be raised by 5 lbs without major plumbing?

2000R/T intrepid, 7500 miles, on problems

ok friend of mine at dealers said this should be a go. should work REAL well actually. price for tb from prowler was $280, have invoice. haven;t bought yet, wanna make sure with everyone this will work and do a little research. $280 for 4 parts, all come together, throttle body, sensor. aid motor, and gasket. sounds good?
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
Hey, I said I was only "thinking" of selling :)
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
All the info I have says the TB is the same for the 300M, the RT, & the Prowler.( maybe Ottwrkr can confirm this) Now I did read more info on that SO-Cal 300M. It said something like DC made a special TB, & intake just for that car. They took a 3.5 out of a Prowler & did these mods to it, then put it in So-Cals 300M. If it is the same TB, it would not be any bigger. The 300M's list price for a 3.5L TB is like $195. The gasket is like $6 more.

Hey gang, I just wanted to let you all know that I just paid $441.47 in license plate tags for a year here in AZ for my "M"! I know this is high, for I heard on the news a while back that AZ was in the top three in plate tag renewals.

AZ is the land of high taxes.

What are others paying for their renewals?
  • tucsongiltucsongil Member Posts: 116
Russ, since you said that the Joshua Wood trim came from Mexico, now I know why I paid more than you.

At the beginning of the year the rate of exchange for the US dollar to Mexican peso was 1(US) to 10(Mex). Now it is 1(US) to 8.5(Mex). The peso gained 15%. I follow the exchange rate for I like to vacation in Mexico since I live close to the US/Mex boarder.

I will be taking the familia to Puerto Vallarta for about a week in within the next two months.
  • silverbullet4silverbullet4 Member Posts: 449
I paid $70.80 this year for my 2k registration renewal. I believe the original registration fee when I bought used was between $400 and $500.
In the news today-TX legislature rescinded the hated leased vehicle tax, an average cost of $570 a year for Texans who lease. Hmmm----I use my car for business. Sale/Leaseback anyone?
    Regards, Silver

dyadinc: Drop me a line at grunschev@yahoo.com and we'll discuss getting together.

tuscongil: If you really want to make people's eyes water, tell them what you paid for registration when it was new. For my '99, it was in the neighborhood of $650.

fuel mileage: I don't use the car's computer. I have all my fuel data in a spreadsheet. I'm getting 21.4 mpg lifetime, 23.7 over the last 10 fillups.

    tucsongil...
The registration on my 2000M is coming due in July...$212 (CA). Registrations use to be higher -- my wife's 2001M registration, when purchased in April this year was $395, but I got a check back from the state last month for $175, for a net cost of $220. It's nice to know something is cheaper in California... :)

    grunschev...
I may be naive, but I trust the car's computer. It seems to do a good job of running the car, including "learning" driving habits. It also does a good job of recording the miles driven (I don't question my odometer), so I expect it does a good job of recording the gas used as well. Since mpg is miles/gas used, I believe the computer's calculation, but I can understand you wanting to confirm your mpg. Do you compare your spreadsheet calculations with the computer? Just curious if there is any noticeable difference... :)

It turns out that the bad MAP sensor I had a few months ago was caused by the Jet Module. This weekend I had the check engine light go on for a few hours then turn off. I took it to the dealer yesterday. The have called me today, & said that the computer has a code in it for the Map sensor. The cleared it, ran the car, the code appeared again. They disconnected the Jet module wire going to the Map sensor, cleared the code, & ran again. No code showed up. They left it disconnected. Someone mentioned the first time the MAP sensor went that it might be the Jet module I didn't think so, but now.... The really bad part of all of this is the dealer is charging me to fix it. Even though I have the extended warranty. They claim it's voided on this problem because the Jet Module was causing the problem. This sucks! Looks like I have a fight on my hands :)
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
mileage - I'm getting 18 in 50/50 driving (time, not miles). I don't drive it hard. I think you guys getting 28 are smoking something. ;)

Fees - I paid over $2,000 in sales tax when I bought Big Red, and each year I pay over $400 in registration fees in good ole' CA
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I forgot I got about 1/2 of that back in a rebate. Not sure if that is a recurring event or a one time deal. Intrepid?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Looks like your fight will be with the Jet Module folks. If you're lucky you can maybe get them to fight each other to determine liability. :)
  • dustinnewtondustinnewton Member Posts: 242
The engines in the Prowler and the M are exactly the same except for the fact that the M has a transaxle for FWD, and the Prowler outputs to a RWD setup. Anybody that tells you that the TB is different is trying to make a buck. Look up the specs on a Prowler. The HP and torque ratings are exactly the same as those of the M. Even if it were a different TB, it obviously makes no improvement over the one on the M.

    Registration:

IL is $78 for personalized, $91 for vanity (all-letters) for all passenger cars.

Oregon, last I heard was $20 a year.

Louisana, *I THINK* was down there around $5 or $10 a year.

Washington (state) has high registration fees (based on value of car) but they don't have an Income Tax.

California bases it on value of car, too, but they have high taxes on everything!

  • mykemmykem Member Posts: 203
Did you contact JET about the problem? Mayhaps it's a faulty module...

Explore all avenues and don't stop yelling or writing letters until you get what you want :)

From the 2000 300M service manual...

Any of the following actions will trigger the [alarm]:
    Opening any door
Removing the deck lid (trunk) lock cylinder
Turning the ignition to the ON position (with anything other than a coded key)

    also...

A tamper alert exists to notify the driver that the [alarm] has been activated. This alert consists of 3 horn pulses when the vehicle is disarmed. The [alarm] will not arm by pushing down the door lock mechanism. This will manually override the system.

    and...

    The alarm activates:
    Sounding of the horn
Flashing of park and tail lamps
    Flashing of headlights
An engine kill feature (fuel shut off) (this feature kills the engine if a key without a transponder (or an improperly coded one) is used to start the ignition).

I thought everyone might find this interesting.
  • dustinnewtondustinnewton Member Posts: 242
Mine was around $450, but I was paying for more than a year. When I got my M on May 19th of 2000, I paid a reduced rate prorated on when my renewal month was. I basically paid for 3 months last time, and 21 this time. In Alabama, it's based on the value of the car, and vanity or special (colleges, veteran, etc.) plates are an ADDITIONAL $50 on top of that.
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
I don't believe the reduction is one time only...it is not a rebate on the registration renewal, it is a reduced fee. However, I believe I received some propoganda from the state that indicated the reduction may be temporary... :(
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
Does this include your insurance? I just registered my 01M here in Alberta Canada and it cost $52.00 Cdn.If you are paying that much just for tags it sound like you should start a mutiny and change governments. It's bad enough to pay the price for fuel that we pay, which was suppose to go for fixing roads etc.
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
No insurance included!!! One of the reasons we pay so much is that there is an annual personal property tax on the vehicle, which they don't have (for most provinces) in Canada. I lived in Canada most of my life and I hated when they brought in government car insurance...one rate fits all! I always thought my insurance would be much cheaper under the free enterprise system because I had a good driving record.
That being said, I must admit that in most of the U.S., they have very innovative ways of separating you from your money through creative charges and taxes... :)
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
Also to clarify, the $52.00 is for 1 year, plus we only have to have 1 plate on our cars, they dropped the front plate a few years ago, I think the prisoners were complaining about the work load!!!!!!

    Intrepidspirit:
It's not that I distrust the computer; I just keep all my costs for the car in a spreadsheet. Car payments, registration, service & repairs, fuel. If I was writing this message from home, I could tell you to the penny what I've spent on the car.

The long term fuel mileage the computer displays is based on when you last pushed the reset button, so I wouldn't expect it to match the full history. And now you've got me wondering... just how does it count the gallons used? (Not that I doubt it does a good job.)

    All:
Today my car is at the dealer for the 30k service (I have 31500 miles on it). They wanted to charge me $77 for cleaning the throttle body and $48 to "decarbon" the engine. I vaguely recall some discussion here earlier about the TB cleaning but don't recall if it was worthwhile or not. The "decarbon" thing I almost laughed at. For $48, they'll put some fuel additive in my gas tank. IAE, I declined both. (They also wanted to rotate my tires; I told them I didn't want to pay $18 for it when I get it done for free elsewhere.)

    Igor
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
You could match your calculations with the computer -- just reset with each tankful (if that is your calculation interval). It would be interesting to test the accuracy...

On the free vs $18 tire rotation...yes, it's free, but would the service quality compare with the 5* dealer service? LOL!

Where is the love????? Of course management will act upon your recommendation! Seriously though, what I meant was that if you could take some of the ideas/suggestions expressed in this passionate forum back to DC Mgt. some, a very few perhaps, might find their way into the production line. It's like buying a lottery ticket, it don't mean you're going to win, but if you DON'T buy a ticket for sure you arent' going to. 8-)
Just keep passing them along who knows, we might one day see Recaro seats, HIDs, a real manual tranny, AWD, scoops, dual exhaust etc and AV will have to find another hobby 8-)

You brought back memories of Canada -- especially registration renewal. I lived in Ontario, and I believe in the early '60's, registration was about $6 ($8 for an eight cylinder! -- 4 cylinders were VERY uncommon). The price was right, but they were all due at the same time -- February 28, and you had to go in person. Can't tell you what is was like trying to get anywhere near the DMV (or whatever it was called) during the last 2 weeks of February. They gave you new plates every year with your registration and they had to be on the car on March 1. Living in Alberta, you can imagine what is was like, trying to get the old plates off and the new plates on at night, 5 below zero, with rusted bolts that were frozen tight!

Some things have improved from the "good old days"...

I was wondering where you were! A while back you were having a problem with the M. Can't recall exactly what it was, but it was something that deserved a call to Auburn Hills and not "customer service". How did you make out? Just wondering.

We do not have government insurance here in Alberta, we also do not have sales tax but we have the hated GST which is 7%, but once the taxes are paid we do not have to keep forking out to the government. My insurance on my M for full coverage is about $750.00 a year. It would go up if you had lots of tickets.
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
Your insurance is a bargain -- $750 Cdn = $495 U.S! We have several levels of coverage...mine is middle of the road (bodily injury $100,000/person, $300,000/accident; personal property $50,000/accident; $500 deductible, etc.) It costs $636/yr.U.S. (approx. $975 Cdn.) and I have an excellent rate for California! Insurance, just like everything else, is expensive in this state.
