ok i'm going for a Venom nitrous system, will kick out 102 hp for 14 seconds. not really gonna use it, just for sake of mind to know i have it ;) the best part is the switch i got made for it. you know like in a fighter jet cockpit, the red switch with the plastic flip up cover? so that will be right next to the shift knob. when i need it, and this is for like maybe dyno testing and stuff like that, i'm not gonna use it on the street. how the hell are these things street legal anyway? u can't stay below like 55 when using this lol. ok anyway, sound good? yeeee-a, i think so. i jsut want that switch, muahahahah, u know what i'm talkin about right?
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
rogor any motion on these? i can get some prices to start out and everything, the best places are in California, and since we got so many memebers from there, we can get hooked up. we = the club. i think this would be a nice touch. only 3 diff color interiors right? with a real badass logo in'em. i'd go for it....i know some of the 300 owners around my way would too.....

i stopped by the dealer yesterday to get that price on the prowler tb, they don't know anyhting abotu the 2002.5 special. but he gave me a number to manager and said he's slow sometimes. i haven't called yet, but he also have me a list of 23 people, with numbers, and addresses. these ppl called the dealer and wanted to know if the hood scoop was a factory option. lol, of course he told them no the kid did that on his own somehow. so they gave him their numbers to give to me. lol. i could make some money here. but thats the best part of the hood scoop, i'm the only guy with it

I have a strange concern about the little Chrysler badge on the steering wheel being blown through my skull when/if the airbag gets deployed. Couldn't that be worse than if it didn't go off and I relied on the belt restraint?

I have another question. Does anyone else notice a slight transmission chuggle when under very light load (almost coasting) and doing between 45 and 50 mph? This is on a 2001 300M. I plan on having the dealer connect it to the service computer when I take it in but figured I ask if anyone else noticed this type of chuggle.

Ooops, I just thought of another question. Does anyone elses stock 360 watt stereo with the 11 Infinity speakers sound anemic? (sp?) I mean it sounds clean and clear but like there is little amplitude.

Well I guess that's enough for now.
    Later,
    Forrest

run it to the dealer.. run forrest, run! okay okay im kidding. seriously now, im not sure what u mean on the gear shifting, mine shifts real smooth. is that what u mean, shifting gears?

woulnt worry bout the chrysler badge on the steering wheel, its just plastic. but you can dissconnect the airbags...

my stereo sounds good, but im not sure it takes up the full 360 watts either. im afraid to test it and see lol, not sure how good those speakers are... but, i do play my music LOUD. and it sounds good to me.

p.s. any pics of your car?? mynes at http://phases78.homestead.com/300m.html

A couple of points. Thinking of adding some red, orange, and yellow LED's under my hood scoop. It would have the effect of making it like a fire is going on down there:) You were the first to have a hood scoop on your 300M. Mine is painted and just needs one more coat of paint and then clear coat it. While speaking of hood scoops are you planning on doing something with that end flat spot on yours? I am thinking of gauges or some LEDs for information or something.

Phases78 - Intake parts - it's up to him when he ships them. I just ordered a brand new G-Tech Pro so I'll be able to do some decent testing.

Avalanche - logo mats. Sure, we'd take a look at anything. I'm thinking just the 300M and Badge logo rather that the whole Club logo. I think the Club logo might be too busy on a floor mat and probably too hard to do with all the detail. 300M logo would appeal to a lot more people.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I know of the switch you are talking about. What I would do is take that little section on the on the cruise control that is doing nothing, the part that says "cruise" make a switch out of it for your NOS. That way your hands do not have to leave the wheel to activate the NOS. Just hit the buttion and petal to the metal, and pray the tranny holds up.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I agree, the club logo is too busy. I would be more apt to get the 300M logo mats then the club logo mats.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
the fabric in the steering wheel just tears across. The emblem will not go flying off. Yours is smaller then mine anyway, so if I am not worried, you shouldn't be. Mine is a papst blue ribben style (just like ever 99-00 except in color.

should be finished tomorrow and on their way to me. I'll ship them out to members who ordered no later than this time next week. Priority mail should put them on your front porch by Monday, June 25th.

All you folks who are new here, welcome and congratulations on your recent or upcoming 300M purchases. If you don't know yet, there is another 300M Club (www.300mclub.org) where we actually meet face to face and celebrate together outside the Internet. We're now planning three Club events this summer; in Monterey CA, Detroit, MI, and Wall, NJ. We can save you money too by offering Dealer discounts on all your parts and service.

Check us out at http://www.300mclub.org and get in on the action.

I thought it might be worth mentioning that the aftermarket HID kit posted here a while back (sorry, can't locate the URL) is NOT street-legal. Just something to consider before dropping $900 on one...

300M badge logo sounds good to me--but what color would the logo be--if it were partially white, it would get dirty real quick---maybe a light gray would work or rust colored to match the wood trim----

tranny can sometimes when coasting and then reaccelerating seem to "bump" into gear and has been a common complaint here--especially noticeabel if you coast down to 35-45 and then give it slight acceleration---just a fault of the tranny I guess--dont think there is a cure--
I would recommend getting a fluid change by 20K as a precaution--and make sure they use the ATF-4.

Question: youse guys who have had to do the brake pads, at what mileage did they need replacement. I have 19k and seem to still have ample lining left but dont want to get down to scraping so I can avoid having to replace the discs

you never did tell us how the guys at the Chrysler dealership reacted to your missing door handles and wrong tailights---hows the solenoid doors coming--and the flyaway front doors---the guys at the dealership should really flip when they see those mods

You have a steering wheel with a color PBR logo? Where did this come from?

"Xenons need 25,000 volts to excite the electrons to 'fire' on the filament."

I thought HIDs utilized an electrical arc, not a filament...

Got word this afternoon that the shirts are done. I'll pick them up in the morning and have them out to Roger by the afternoon.

Av- I know EXACTLY the button you're talking about. Anyone with a fond memory of Top Gun will remember the firing switch covered with the red metal latch. heh. I also like the idea of you putting it in that space between the on/off and set buttons for the cruise control. Make the button say something like "HANG ON" or something as nice. LOL. The only risk is hitting the Nitrous button when you're trying to set cruise at 68 because you're approaching the local freeway speedtrap. haha.

I think the kit previously mentioned here for the HID kit is from this site:

    http://www.ggarage.com

They say they have a complete "drop in kit" which requires no modification to the headlight assembly. I am skeptical. Yes the site says that there kit is for off road use only, but then so are the many Xenon wannabe's that are available.

scotian - You are correct, there is no filament in an HID capsule.

"end flat spot on yours?" i'm not real sure what u mean. like the space between the fangs?
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
hey rogor this place in cali i am talkin to, we can just send'em a pic and that's it, they'll embroider it on whatever color mat u want. and the best part, u can just get names and colors from people and then order that many. it cost the same to get a yellow logo embroidered, than it does red, orange, green, white, black, etc etc etc....
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
rogor can u email me a pic of the logo u guys are thinkin about? avalanche165@ureach.com thanks

hahahaa, yea i posted about my dealer, first the tech freaked, then this other one actually thought that chrysler forgot to put'em on. go figure this guy is working at a 5* dealer.

serv manager : "where the heck are your door handles"

me : "upstairs in my room"

    .................................................
the solenoids are tougher than i thought. as you probably know, you buy them according to pressure power in lbs. well since are doors are so freakin heavy, i gotta get the 50lb selanoid, its about $300, i was expecting $75, lol. so i'm just talkin to some people and research a little more. autoloc features built in relays, which is like revolutionary in this field. 70% of install time is hookin on relays! don't have to do that anymore, anyway, i'll keep it updated and post pics when done, looks like a few weeks...
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
YEEEEEEEEEEEEE-aaa!! that switch is what i'm talkin about. that cruise control switch idea was 300mike's. i like that too. but i gotta go with this flip up box. i'm gonna get a red switch, and put "Go Baby Go" on it. lol, sry i watched Gone in 60 seconds one too many times.....

on my bro's wrx, he;s putting in a Nitrous Express Venom 100-shot. well he gets 12's 1/4 mile stock, now he'll be able to pull a low 11. man its a bit ridiculous. about 320 hp with the nos, on a car as heavy as one of the 300's doors. but we're gonna make his button right on his Shift knob, like on the top, so he can shift gears, and wham hit the switch, then go airborne.....

Our y2k 300M's transmission shifts funny and makes noises all the time. I'm not so sure that the dealer could help in this regard because it seems to just be a problem with the really crappy transmissions in these cars. Strangely, I still don't know why after three years of production and many complaints and problems, why Chrysler hasn't done a single thing to alleviate the problem. But then again, why would they even bother?

Oh yeah, for all of you M owners; what is the pressure you put in your tires? We have a non-PHP with the Goodyears and they always look a little low and the car wobbles and wiggles a lot. Last time I put air in them, I think they were up to 33 PSI. I think that this was mentioned before but any comments?
  • mykemmykem Member Posts: 203
Sebring convertible has a crappy dash? The 2001 I sat in had the 300M dash -- electroluminiscent.
Felt like I was right at home, but with an extra large sunroof.
I almost bought it since I really want a convertible. Instead I upgraded to the 2001 300M :)

Any I kept my Goodyears at 35-37 PSI. I also keep my Michelins that pressured. If they fall below that I notice my fuel economy go down proportionally.

Ok, I took the second box out of the car & it's at work with me. It's the 1 nearest the TB. That's the box that has that restriction tube insoed to reduce noise. I want it out! I can't seem to find a way. Anyone done it? Any ideas?

I hope someone can do some before and after testing on this mod. What happens to response at part throttle? A dyno test with an exhaust analyzer to check for overlean condition at full throttle would be an insurance policy. Do I sound conservative? Well, I watched my '63 Pontiac LeMans w/ 330ci V-8 burn up because of a well-intentioned friend's modification.
    Good luck! Silver

I was talking about the Sebring's "dash" not the instrument cluster which is just like the M's. The previous model's looked better but the new one looks like it has gone back in time. I still don't know about not having a roof though--nice and fun in the summer but what about the twisting body that will "loosen" up over time a lot more than a sedan. I really don't know why I'm bothering here, because on certain days, our M feels and sounds like it is held together with some chewed gum and a few paper clips--all after only 10,000 miles--still love the car anyway.

Anyway, does the M ride and/or handle better with the 35-37 PSI in the tires? I think the car would feel a lot better if some of the jiggle and looseness could be eliminated along with better gas mileage.
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
I know that many of our 300M's have or had shrunken weatherstripping. Supposedly, the replacements and the strips in 01' models is bigger & stronger than before. However, I just found a picture on the web that shows a 01' LHS with this problem. This must be a chronic issue or something. Here's the pic:

With the goodyears at 30 (and sometimes below) I got quite a bit of skidding when I went into turns -- flat at 20mph banked at 45mph. I also had tire squealing with slower (15 mph) turns.

With the higher pressure, I can go into the turns with more speed and I don't have that annoying sqealing anymore :)

The ride may be a little more harsh, but I don't like driving a car seemingly supported by marshmallows :)

Also... the '99 owners manual said that if you do much driving over 75mph, keep them inflated to 35psi to avoid tire overheating...

The "flat spot" I am referring to is the part that you see when sitting in the car. (oposit end from the intaks side) your's looks to be about at least 2" high.
I you fly past a speed trap you better be doing at least 140 that way you will be at least 10 miles down the road before the officer realizes what happened :) and carry a can of chalk paint to do your car a different color so when he drives by you looking for the demon that went past him. double :)
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The emblem I have is off an old (did I say that) 97 Chrysler Town and Country sales brochere. I is about a the exact size as the one on the steering wheel. It is two dementional but looks good will post a pic, of it soon for you to see.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I'm doing mine this weekend. The computer monitors the lean/rich conditions, & will adjust the engine paramaters accordingly. There should not be any problem with that. Besides, How much more air really gets into the engine with only a 6MM difference in TB size. If it was a super charger or NOS system, that's different. An inprovment in throttle response should be seen. Not so much HP. Maybe 5 if that much.

"goose, too close for missles switching to guns"

    Is that the switch :)

I tend to be a bass head, so I installed a Profile 400sx amp (400 watts bridged into one channel) and hooked 2 Bazooka 6.5 bass tubes up in series to that channel. Not enough bass so I currently have a Cerwin-Vega SW-12 dual voice coil subwoofer (118oz magnet!) in a CV built enclosure in my trunk. This is actually the sub I had on my home theater system, but I have it in the car temporarily until I purchase a car-specific enclosure. Overkill, yes, but I can always turn the bass down. So I have 760 watts going to 12 speakers in 10 locations. Here's what I have found out in my testing. The head unit runs its output to the Infinity amp which is located in the trunk on the passenger's side. It's behind the wheel. Pull the carpet back in that area and you will see it. Looks like a standard amp. All of the crossover functions are performed in the amp itself, and the outputs to all the speakers run from the trunk. I initially purchased a pair of 6x9 Kenwood speakers to replace the 6x9 woofers in the rear deck. This is when I discovered that the highs for those speakers are cut out at the amp. Trouble is, the Kenwood woofers sounded worse than the factory speakers (less bass). Infinity designed a speaker optimized for that stereo/amp/location/acoustics environment. Sent the Kenwoods back to Crutchfield and bought Bazookas. My Profile amp taps into the rear speaker outputs coming from the amp. It has a high level input to facilitate this. The factory amp also has a remote turn on, so I connected my Profile's remote turn-on lead to this. I'm running 12 gauge Street Wires power wire directly to the battery. It's fused, so that makes it easy. I have the 12AWG negative ground going straight to a gold plated terminal bolted to the floor of the trunk. My amp is mounted to the underside of the deck on the passenger's side next to the trunk light. If you open the trunk, you can't see it unless you stick your head in the trunk. It conceals nicely. BTW-to get to the rear deck speakers, the entire rear seat and side trim panels have to be removed. Not fun. Having gone through all this, here's my suggestion: Go to Crutchfield's website and buy the Infinity powered subwoofer (here: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-yzWSrf6Z6vU/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=51000&I=108BASSLIN&o=&a= ). Have a car stereo shop put it in to save you the hassle. The factory speakers aren't great for bass, but they sound great when a real sub is added. The become mid-bass speakers, which is what they really are anyway. I had some pics of my install online before Photopoint quit being free. I'll try to open an account somewhere else this weekend and get the pics posted so you can see the setup. I listen to everything from classical to metal (except that is except Country. Death before Country) and I like having that bass waiting if I choose to kick it up. My setup will shine on everything from Karl Jenkins to The Beach Boys to Limp Bizkit to Tool. If I were to do it again, and if I wasn't looking for a TON of bass, I'd get the Infinity sub listed above. Not too expensive, would sound great, and would cause minimal hassle. I'll let you know when I get the pics online. Good luck and if I can help you out with any suggestions or information, please let me know.

hey guys ... has anyone replaced either their high or low beam bulbs yet ... i was just wondering how involved it is ... oh and i do have my car back from the air suspension install finally ... having one problem though and that is that my back right cylinder is loosing pressure ... i parked it on dogleg last night (left rear wheel off the ground) and this morning when i came out to go to work, it was on the ground ... minor setback though because they ordered another cylinder already ... i will have pics up and on my website ( http://members.cardomain.com/herrmdogg ) sometime this weekend and i will post another message when the pics are on there ... cya guys later

What I was thinking was just the 300M and badge symbol, like the trunk emblem, but probably without the checkerboard pattern. Anyone have any other ideas on this?? With the thickness of the mats, they probably can't do very much detail.

How many different floor mat colors are there?? I only know about the agate/gray interior. How many different carpet colors are there in the sand/brown/beige interior schemes?
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558

in '01 we had the agate, sandstone and light taupe interiors. My floormats in my sandstone are...un...sandstone. Not sure about the taupe mats. Might be darker. I remember a two-toned interior when I looked at that.

You rock. Great description of the solution. I looked at that Infinity sub and saw that it has it's own amp. Great solution, and I'm sure it'll tie in well with the existing infinity stuff. $399 is a little much for me right now to add more thump to Rage's Renegades of Funk, but maybe for my birthday. ;)
  • sibesibe Member Posts: 102
What I meant in my previous post about it requiring 25,000 volts to excite the Xenon... is this.
    Sorry if I wasn't clear.

What distinguishes HID bulbs from incandescent models is that they have no filament. Like a fluorescent bulb, the HID creates illumination by creating an arc between poles. The result is an extremely bright and powerful beam. This should explain better why in a dual filament set-up you would lose your high beams.

AV, when you say there's a kit available, you mean to INCLUDE the reflector?????? Thanx for letting me know,

    Sibe

As I posted earlier, during my 30k service the dealer found my oil drain plug was overtightened the last time my oil was changed. They offered to fix it, by replacing the pan, for $200 labor and $160 parts.

I had my previous oil change at Jiffy Lube. I managed to get their regional manager to go to the dealer; he took responsibility and is paying for the repairs. He wouldn't let the dealer do the work, though, as the shop he normally deals with is only charging him $225 total.

The Jiffy Lube guy gave me a lift to work from his mechanic's. On the way he told me mine is the 4th oil pan he's had to replace (the other three were Intrepids). He finally got the Chrysler tech to give him the required torque settings and he will instruct his 16 shops to not exceed 25lbs of torque on these cars.

It has been a pain in the kiester, but Jiffy Lube did the right thing when they could easily left me holding the bag. The service advisor at the dealer would not stand behind me on this ("It's between you and Jiffy Lube," he said). I was sure I was going to get screwed, but it seems to be working out okay. My hat is off to Jiffy Lube.

So if you're doing your own oil changes, or taking your car somewhere other than the dealer, you might want to mention the 25lb torque maximum on the drain plug.

Fuzzy, thanks for the continuing education on M engine management. This must be the 3rd time you have explained a concept to me.

Dustin: I have had my eye on that Infinity for some time, but when I was ready to order, they were "out of stock". Do you think one could roll off the low bass to the 6x9s at the head unit and compensate with the sub built-in controls to have a smooth transition? I guess that would require some experimentation with a test CD.

I'll think it over this weekend on my fishing trip. Everyone have a safe weekend. That means you, too, AV. Keep the rubber side down!

As The comedian Killer Beaz says, "SAVE UP!!" It looks pricey, but if you figure a sub or two here, and an amp there, and labor and thick power wires on top of it and you can get to $399 in a hurry! I think it would be worth it and would love to hear an opinion from someone who bought one. You could be first!
