It is an actual 1969 Ford Mustang hood scoop that I have ground down on the side to make it fit the 300M's hood contours. As for the ducting the air I am trying a cookie pan (don't laugh) it has a 1.5" height that just clears the the engine and with the flange it secures easly to the hood. I just have to seal it. and duct it to the air box. The scariest ( I thought cutting out the rear fesha for the dual exhaust was bad) part is going to be putting holes for the bolts and the air inlet. I am waiting for the parts to do the rear holes Lights I ordered to come in, so I can finish it. I will see what the dealer says when I take it in for the 6/30K mile check up. I will also have to get the thing smog checked to see of it still is running OK. I do not want any surprizes when I have to go have it smog checked next January for the official test. This way if it fails I can change the Intake parts I have moded back to factory stock (air box, filter, Throttle body, ect).
Most of the family says it looks like a race car (they do not like it) My dad and I like it. It is subdued, but makes a statement, where as Avalanche's makes a bolder statement.

without too much luck. Even with purple bulbs the amber lens still shows amber with just the slightest hint of red. The back up light colored red worked out better, but not to my satisfaction. So the hunt continues.

Hood scoop looks nice! If anyone can get one functioning, it's you.

Try removing the gas cap and reinstalling it. Be sure you get at least 2 clicks when you tighten it.
There is a good chance that will fix it.

it figures he drives a bottom of the line car---why he makes fun of the M is beyond me---its like a 98 pound weakling making fun of Mr T---sounds like buyer remorse to me--he also was on the Pt Cruiser board badmouthing it. I think Pat should delete his post as he used a four letter word--

so, just the webshots site will have the photos of the hood scoop, for awhile. I can't believe they want to charge for this. I may have to get my www.Chrysler300N site going.

I've been buying stereo and electronic stuff from mail order for 20 years now, but never from Crutchfield. They always seemed to be the most expensive mail order outfit.

Just did a quick search and found this site - $259 instead of $399 at Crutchfield. Not having bought anything from this outfit, I can't vouch for them specifically, but I'm sure there are other places out there that sell this Infinity sub-woofer. Looks like a nice unit though. Might consider getting one myself.

i was driving in washington dc one day, extreme low on gas (i thought), and gas stations are a rare sight in DC. then all of a sudden, i have 65 dte, i'm like whoooooooooooooooooooooo, then it drops to 0, i'm like :(
but back up, and the gauge was going nuts, up and down, up, then more up, then down, then tanked, then up. man it was weird. and that bell, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my GOD that is annoying. but anyway, i filler her up and just mentally kept track of how much was left by estimating with mileage and all. but after it never happened again. i took it to dealer too, we checked every sensor, adn then checked it again. there were all good. so i don't know what the heck it was. but please keep us infmormed. this is like when sdmike's back door wouldn't lock, just wouldn't work, then no problems again. glitches? mines a 99, what year is yours?
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
good news friend. a simple machine made aluminum box. easily made. right at the butt of the scoop...how are you gonna make the air-duct? i didn't want to cut away a big rectangle due to potential structural problems, so i drilled holes. big ones, 6 of them. those will be all covered by this aluminum box. little box made to take in air well. then we hose off either just into airbox, or directly into the intake. try both to see which one is better is what we'll do. so i did it tonight, and we'll see how it feels tommorow morning when i drive it.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Not a big deal, but that wasn't me with the door lock issue. MY issue was the headlights that went on in the middle of the day and wouldn't turn off. lol.

Last Sunday (6/10) we had the Concurs d'Elegance in Cincinnati. As I was walking past cars from the 50's and 60's what did I see? A 300C. It sure looked big, especially LONG. I didn't remember then as being that long but back then I was young and all the cars were getting long. Anyway it was nice to see a distant ancestor of my "99 300M. Has anyone else seen any "ancients"?
  • lalarrylalarry Member Posts: 56
The special symbols now offered in California on the vanity plates are only offered on the special interest plates.

I don't think there will be any mispronouncing the new plate!

It did cross my mind having you start a trend with BIGREDM, and go with BIGBLUM, but that would be a definite mispronounciation, and I wouldn't want to be know as "Big Blum", so I dismissed that thought real fast.

BTW.. watch out for flying car parts on the highway. My windshield now has a pretty little "star" from a piece of metal kicked up by another car. I knew I should have worked from home on Friday!

Has anyone ever used one of those glass filler services? From what I recall, I used them once before and seem to remember them doing a great job filling the damage with some kind of liquid glass which eliminated the "star" altogether.
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
We have quite a problem here in Calgary with gravel on the roads during winter and the glass companies are making a fortune with these quick fixes, they are cheap too. I returned my Intrepid after lease and I fixed a couple of spots and the dealer did not even notice it. The only problem you might have if it is in the area of the drivers view, like right in the middle of your line of vision, but otherwise it sure will save you some money. They are even able to repair small cracks the same way.
  • 99_300m_ric_va99_300m_ric_va Member Posts: 377
Yeah, I've used them too. Had the windshield on my truck fixed using the liquid glass resin stuff. Hard to tell it afterwards, but I had a very small star crack. Been ok for like 4 years now.

Insurance companies will fix your windshield for free a lot of times if you get it repaired rather than replaced. Most glass repair companies around here come to you at your home or work and repair your windshield in about 20 mins.

Be careful, there is an electro-something reaction between dissimilar metals, steel and aluminum. For a preview go look at the aluminum downspounts on your house and the rusty screws holding them together. I suppose some sort of rubber gasket between the steel hood and aluminum cookie tray would prevent any surprises.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I plan on using edpm rubber gaskets and washers to keep the metals apart anyway. I do not want any rattles like Beach has comming from under the hood. Yes most metals react with each other. Copper is another one to watch carefully. I am thinking of going stainless so if any mosture gets into the system rust will not at least be a problem.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I plan on two holes that I will cut out, shaped like triangles. one on each side. One side of the triangle will be against the side wall of the hood scoop (the same goes for the other side). the second part of the triangle cut out will be parallel with the back of the scoop. The third part of the angle will be from the front wall going toward the center. The cut out edges will be bent up so then they will form a wall, to channel the water around the intake opening. I will use door edge molding to cover the bent up edges, and help prevent the water from going over it. I will draw a quick picture and post it on the webpages site for you will have a better idea.

Does anyone use one of those big, reflective windshield shields to block out the sun and heat? My wife thinks it would help a lot on keeping the seats or the interior for that matter, from completely boiling. I have looked around at stores and on the internet but am not sure about what is best. I know some tinted windows would help a lot and make the car look even better, but she doesn't like them and says it will make it even hotter inside. What should I do/buy? These last two months have had us really kicking ourselves for not getting the original Stone White & Lt. Pearl Beige that we wanted and looked at. That Deep Slate paint and dark Agate leather do a good job of frying your butt!

I got the reflector that Chrysler sells and is custom made to fit the car. Real nice, has the silver reflective material on it w/the Mopar logo - wow! I never could find one in an auto parts store or the "x-mart" stores, they just were not big enough. But then the Chrysler one is like erecting a billboard but it does help keep the car a little cooler, and I also have metalized window tint. The reflector was about $50 from the dealer.

I use a Jumbo Magic Shade. The Silver Colored one on the outside and black on the inside. This is the kind that you fold and twist into a small 12" to 15" diameter circle. Its made of nylon and a wire loop. Its two pieces and fit the window perfectly leaning on each other and the rear view mirror. It does not require you to flip down the sun visors to hold them up.

Tinted Windows do two things, filter out almost ALL UV rays (98%+) which will save your interior, and cools the vehicle quite a bit. Mine are tinted and the difference in the heat is very significant.

Another thing that will cool the vehicle is Vent Visors from Autoshade. You can crack open the windows and not get in any rain. They really make a difference. I have them on my truck and they are a godsend. I personally don't like their look on the 300m. Some people here have them and can testify to their value.

You can get these products at most Auto Parts chains or K-mart/Wal-mart.

Rogor2k, do you think we could get something like this for our club?

  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
    Big Blum! Love it. LOL!

lalarry - My AAA insurance (ACSC) fixes windshields for free with no deductible. It's a safety thing. Check with your guys. The last couple of times I had a windshield repaired it was from companies that do the resin injection. It's always been virtually invisible (sometimes a little yellowish) and holds up well.

fcm - I was going to mention the same thing. My aluminum sliding doors react with the steel in the stucco when it all gets wet, and as a result the aluminum has disolved and the stucco has fallen apart. I'm getting vinyl sliding doors in the next couple of weeks because of this exact problem. Steel, aluminum and H2O are unhappy bedfellows.

Beach - My jumbo sun shade(s) are in two rectangular pieces but are white instead of silver. I think I'm going to go with silver to reflect more light. By all means get your windows tinted. You'll save your interior and you will be much much cooler. I have 20% in the rear (the % is the amount of light that passes through, so lower is darker) and side rear windows, and 50% on the front sides. The other day I was sitting at a light with my window open and my arm was cooking in the sun. I rolled up the window, and the difference was amazing. The M has minimal factory tint, unlike my wife's Caravan that has virtually limo-darkness rear windows. When I park my car I leave the windows open about 1inch, and I leave the sunroof vented with the slider closed 3/4 of the way. It's not too bad.

Happy father's day. Hope you're enjoying it as much as I am. :)
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
Thanks for the advice, I really think that the tint would go a long ways to cooling the interior. However, I am not sure what Delaware's tiniting laws are and I remember seeing a post here not too long ago that had a link to a site that listed every state's laws for front & rear windows. Does anyone know or remember what this site was?

Crazy gas gauge! You think that sound is annoying! Try the low washer fluid one! I was out half way driving up to NYC. Every 2-3 minutes that sound! AGGGGGGG!!!!!! For like 8 hours! I was driving at night & none of the gas stations had fluid. I think once would be enough, then just use the light.

I had something bounce off the hood on the way to work the other morning. Left a nice 3 point dent along with scrapes on the hood. I've had stuff bounce off the road and hit the windshield many times each leaving little pits and marks along the way.......Oh well only 2.5 years until trade in time.

On another note, I ordered the PHP springs and struts on Friday, just tired of the way these H&R springs ride.

Does the air conditioner compressor stay engaged continuously when the air is on, or does it cycle on and off? The reason I ask is that, at highway speeds, I notice a little skip or hesitation occasionly. It feels as if the compressor is coming on and off. I cut the air conditioner off and didn't feel it, but my exit came up right after that so I couldn't be sure. Has anyone else noticed this?

phases- According to the car, I get 14.8MPG, but I do leadfoot it, and I have 3500mi's.

Sombody mentioned Autoshades ventvisors. Here is another alternative, that I got and like very much. Weathertech, they don't tape to the door, they go in the window track. Here is a link to the distributor. I did get mine locally though. If you call the 800 number and tell them where you live they'll tell you where nearby you can get them. I had mine ordered through a local "auto Boutique" store. They only have them for the front though and they aren't super cheap, but I like them allot. They keep the rain out and deflect allot of the wind noise when going fast with the window cracked. Someday I'll have recent pics up.

    Check out
    A href www.mcneilauto.com

Last but not leats, I am SO PO'd about the nice ding that somehow appeared on the car. Don't where or when, but a nice half dollar size ding showed up today on the right rear door! Looks like it was an SUV door because of how high it is on the door. About 8 inches above the side gaurd. It P's me OFF! Now I gotta try even harder to park further away from the idiots out there!!!

    Just a little upset!

Avalanche, the picture you showed in your post is the manifold absolute pressure sensor, MAP sensor for short. It measures vacuum in the intake manifold and reports it to the engine computer.

iiiiiiiiiiintreesting......thank you dan, thank you. ok now this is gonna sound incredibly dumb but....where are the spark plugs. i still need my work under the hood. what the parts are, yea sure i'll know'em, where they are and what the look like, my hair turns blond on that. (no offense to you blond headed spouses.....;)
  • hataxhatax Member Posts: 56
Av, the spark plugs are on the top of the engine, they have little "packs" on top of each one, with 2 - 25 Torx screws holding them in. This motor has "Coil on Plug" so if you're looking for spark plug wires, you aren't gonna find them, you remove the screws and pull the coil upwards and the spark plug sits way down inside that sleve. Just an opinion, I put +4 plugs in my car and have been pretty happy with them. They run smoother and about a 1mpg increase with them.. Worth it for under $40....

The back looks best with just a wing emblem placed like this:

Mine is smooth, without a restrictor plate. It does seem to taper as it goes toward the engine. I didn't look any further than this to see if there was a restrictor plate way back in there:

When they replaced my bulging window trim, they installed it so the window is on the wrong side! Do they have monkeys doing this stuff?

The new weatherstripping has horrible looking ripples in them. Can't Chrysler make window trim that fits!? Has anyone else had this problem?

And to top it all off, the squeak that they claimed to have fixed is still there. I don't want to know how much of Chrysler's time and money was spent removing my front struts, replacing their bearings (compressing the springs, etc.), and reinstalling them.
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
Are there any TSBs and/or other information for the seat moving slightly when accelerating or decelerating?

If it's an easy fix, might as well have the dealer do it. Of course, I run the risk of having a new seat of a slightly different color installed backwards...
  • 99_300m_ric_va99_300m_ric_va Member Posts: 377
    Scotian,

Believe it or not, this was happening to me, and I cycled the power seat through the full range of all the adjustments a couple of times, then pressed my memory setting to put me back to where I like it and viola, no more movement.

Try it, you never know. Better than a trip to the 5*star to inconvience, vehicle drop off, wait for order of new seat with possibly unmatching leather.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I know what you mean--=ripples---I had all four door weatherstrips replaced and they each have at least one of those ripples--I thought maybe they were supposed to be there maybe to help the doors close easier. Could you others please check your weatherstrip to see if you have these ripples--maybe they are supposed to be there, although they dont look right---
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I had the long dash fake wood strip replaced due to a perceived imperfection near the glove box area--looked like a slight dimple --very visible when light reflects off the trim piece---well, the new strip has a slight dimple in the same exact place----do any of you notice this on your wood trim piece
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
thanks man. i stripped on of the hex bolts so i gotta get a new bit to unscrew it. there in there pretty good tho. i went with your bosch plat 4+
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
yea easy i notice this too, way back when i got the car. i ordered a new piece as well (warranty) and same thing. but when you take it off you see there is a structural piece there. that is the reason, in my opinion anyway.

I too have slight drivers seat movement fore/aft... maybe about 1/16". According to my 5*, mine is "within spec". I kept asking them what "the spec" was on how much the seat "could move" before it's considered "out of spec" and I never got a straight answer. He just finally told me that other 300M's do it as well.

He did tell me that it "doesn't require" a whole new seat to fix it but why fix it if it's not broke. Chrysler are you reading this?

Good solution, I like it. 2 questions.

Which version of the wings did you use (300M grille, minivan, etc?

Where did you route the pull cord to? Could you take it (thru a tube) to the cabin (rear seat area) where you could pull it to unlock the trunk without the fob?
